.
.
.
Reporter: What are your plans after acquiring all-star center Bynum from Lakers and after departure of Andre Iguadala?
Rod Thorn (GM): We plan to sign a veteran to give our team much needed experience.
Reporter: Who do you plan to sign?
Rod Thorn (GM): You will be shocked to see who will be wearing 76ers uniform by the end of the week.
.
.
.
Later that night…
/On the phone/
Rod Thorn (GM): Hello, this is Red Thorn, the GM of Philadelphia 76ers.
Allen Iverson: Oh, hi Mr. Thorn.
Rod Thorn (GM): How’s it going for you?
A.I. : It’s going good, chillin’ with my family. How are you doin’?
Rod Thorn (GM): I’m great. Listen… you probably know we acquired Bynum from the Lakers and we got rid of Iguadala and we are looking for for you to be the veteran leader and the team captain but you would have to accept smaller role then what you used to play in our uniform.
A.I. : How small the role I’d be playing?
Rod Thorn (GM): Something similar to what Derek Fisher played for Oklahoma last year. 15-20 minutes per game.
A.I. : You know my knees are pretty good, well, because I haven’t practiced much. *laughter* But I still think I can take over the game with ease and put the ball in the basket like I did 11 years ago against Milwaukee in Eastern Conference Finals. I just need good off-season in training camp to be one of the best on the court. You know I am not worried, nor I ever was, with my size. I played and will always play with my heart and…I’d like bigger role in the team as I think I can contribute in more was with more minutes on the court.
Rod Thorn (GM): Okay, we are prepared to give you 1-plus-1 year contract. Second year is based on team option.
A.I. : Thank you Mr. Thorn for giving me another chance with this franchise.
Rod Thorn (GM): Just prove the doubters that you still have it in you.
A.I. : Thanks again, appreciate it.
Rod Thorn (GM): No problem. Come at my office tomorrow to finalize the deal.
A.I. : Will do sir. See you tomorrow.
Rod Thorn (GM): See you Allen
.
.
.
Tomorrow at Rod Thorn’s office reporters are surrounding Rod Thorn and asking him about the new signing that will sign with 76ers today.
Reporter: C’mon Mr. Thorn, give us the answer who is the new player in the team.
Allen Iverson: (walks in the office) I am The Answer.
Rod Thorn then closes the door of the office and signs contract with The Answer.

Andrew Bynum said he wants to be a big part of the Philadelphia 76ers' future.
At his introductory news conference Wednesday, Bynum hinted that he is extremely happy with the blockbuster four-team trade involving Dwight Howard that sent him from the Los Angeles Lakers to the 76ers. Bynum, eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after this season, was introduced along with the newly acquired Jason Richardson in a news conference that was unusual in that it was open to the public.

Fans immediately made Bynum feel welcome to the City of Brotherly Love with chants of "Andrew Bynum! and "Beat L.A." as he walked to the stage.
Asked if he was considering signing a contract extension with 76ers, Bynum got another roar out of the fans by saying, "To be honest, my first experience here's been so great, I'm really looking forward to making this my home."

Bynym, who averaged career highs of 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds last season, grew up about an hour outside of Philadelphia.
Unlike in Los Angeles, where the Lakers have Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol, the 76ers are expected to run their offense through the 7-foot Bynum, a major change for him.

"It's the next step in my career," he said. "I'm excited about this team. Seeing them last year, what Doug (Collins) did with them. They're a young team with a lot of energy."

Bynum did confirm reports that he will undergo an experimental procedure on his knee in Germany. He plans to have the non-surgical treatment, known as Orthokine/Regenokine, in early September.

Bynum has been plagued by knee injuries throughout his career, but remained healthy last season. Bynum currently is not suffering from any knee injuries, but was impressed with the results Bryant experienced after having the procedure last season.

Allen Iverson first at...practice??

ImageImage

Allen Iverson was seen in 7 AM in front of Wells Fargo Center, his car was the only one at parking lot. It's intriguing to see The Answer first to put the uniform on and practice before everyone else.

We got into the gym and there he was, shooting jumpshots, running suicides and working out. We asked him why did he start to coming to practice first at this late stage of his career. And the answer from The Answer was somewhat shocking.. He said that he 'actually loves to practice and wants to play the basketball he's 40.' He also noted that he wants to get back in shape for new season. He also stated that he wants to thank 76ers GM Red Thorn for giving him this chance.

When he was asked why didn't he practice like this when he was leading scorer and MVP A.I. answered: 'Back then I didn't realise the point of practice, you saw my practice speech and what I say. And I still think that I can make something happen on the court and will always give my best on the court. I'll try and contribute however Coach wants me to contribute. If he wants me to score, I'll score, if he wants me to pass, I'll pass.. Well, you get the point.. And yes, I still think I can take on the best on the court, both offensively and defensively.''

He has remarkable confidence. Well, when didn't he had biggest confidence in the league?

Image

I guess he was given the chance he aksed for when he attended the 76ers game back in May, 23 in Game 6 vs Celtics. If he was in jersey then maybe 76ers would pass C's?

Not much in first season. ;) No probs, he was the reason I started this :) It's painful to see him off-court while he wants to play the game of basketball in the NBA.

I know rite!! He can really contribute to a team.. Even if it means coming off the bench. He stated that he doesn't care what role it is he just wants to play. :!:

I dunno any All-Stars that come off the bench...

Anyway, this is looking really good. I hope this works out for you, because I'm a big fan of Allen Iverson. Such an exciting player in his prime; I'm interested to see how he plays at 37.

Caan you say Manu Ginobili? :D But yeah, my goal is to make A.I. an all-star once again.

Thanks. He's playing really good. Kinda strugling with his jumpshot as he has too long jumpshot. But hey, stepback is still in him :) New update in about an hour.

Report: Blazers trade Jeffries for Sam Young

76ers decided to trade Sam Young as they acquired Philly legend Allen Iverson. They were willing to listen to the offers and as 76ers GM told us 'The Blazers put the best offer on the table as we didn't want to lose our draft pick'. Blazer trade 29 years old Forward Jeffries and '13 2nd round pick for 26 years old F in Sam Young.

What this means for 76ers? The 76ers got rid off 3 year contract and got expiring contract in Jeffries who can come off the bench and be a defensive presence...to some extent. And they also get 2nd round pick in a hope they draft a sleeper later in the draft, someone like Isaiah Thomas, Manu Ginobili or Dražen Petrović. 76ers also add depth to their frontcourt while enableing to give more minutes to players like Evan Turner, Jason Richardson and Dorrel Wright.
Grade: B

Image

What this means for Trail Blazers? The Blazers didn't do good in this trade. They get yet another F, even though they already have 8 Forwards but only Aldridge and Batum are worth mentioning. And 2nd round pick can provide some sleepers, as mentioned earlier. But with departure of Jeffries Hickson can blossom into a great 6th man and Meyers Leonard can play some big minutes in his rookie season.
Grade: C

Iversons injury overshadow blowout victory versus Raptors

Image

In a game that had Iversons comeback and Bynums double-double debut one thing stood out... It was Iversons willingness to play with twisted ankle even though the game was already decided.

Image

The game started ferociuosly as in the first 4 minutes of the game as Iverson dished out 4 assist which included couple of alley-oops to Bynum and former Slam Dunk Champion Jason Richardson. Iverson guarded Demar Derozan very well as he didn't score a point in the first quarter. Derozan scored only 9 points in the game shooting 3-9 from the field. But the other guard was on fire that night and that guard was Kyle Lowry. He scored 20 points shooting 8-19.

Image

Despite twisted ankle which he received at the end of 2nd quarter, A.I. returned to the court at the beginning of second half. He scored 13 points, had 7 assists and 4 rebounds in 29 minutes. But he did shot poorly, only 4-14. MVP of the game was Andrew Bynum as he scored 24 points, had 13 rebounds and 4 assists while shooting 8-17 from the field. He did not try any three pointers also.

Thanks. :) Yeah, I was kinda surprised to see A.I. on the court as he went limping to the bench at the end of 2nd quarter. I think he had nice comeback :) And Bynum can really be the leader of new 76ers era.

Iverson to play through injury?

Iverson has tweeted that he is going to play through injury even though he was supposed to wear a suit on the bench for 10 days. This wouldn't be first time he takes pain killers so he could play the game.

Allen Iverson ‏@alleniverson
No injury can stop me. Ready for next game. #Go76ers

When we asked Head Coach Doug Collins about that possibility he responded: '' If Allen is comfortable to take the hits he took last game he'll play. He is our team captain and we need him on the court. But I don't want to risk any further injury so I'll have a word with him and our medical staff. Until then, he's playing our next game''.

I just played third game since I didn't have time to do it before (having some personal problems) and I blow Orlando with 34 points.. A.I. had 30 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds shooting 50%. And my PC just shuts down. Oh well, next update in about a week because I'm going to Germany (Deutschland :D ) and won't have my PC with me and I'm too nervous to play this game again.
