Good luck (Y) Trade Nash and rebuild or compete for the playoffs now?

Thanks. I will do my best with Nash at the helm, but if we end up having no chance by the deadline I might send him packing. I do like the Gortat-Nash P&R Combination though...

Suns cut ties with Childress; Swap him for Thabeet

The Phoenix Suns sneaked in just before their opening night game against the Thunder with a trade for Trail-Blazers and former-2nd overall pick Hasheem Thabeet for struggling forward Josh Childress. The deal was done Thursday Night, with the Blazers adding a future 2nd-round pick to the deal.

The Suns have been looking for a solid defensive backup for Marcin Gortat, and now Robin Lopez has some competition. Childress had a tough season last year, struggling to adapt back to the NBA style of basketball after his stint in Europe.

Childress averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds last season, while Thabeet had 1 point and 2 rebounds per game.

Suns Release Price, Sign Mills

The Phoenix Suns have release third-string point guard Ronnie Price, and immediately signed speedy, young point Patrick Mills. The Australian Mills spent time recently playing in his home country for the Melbourne Tigers after a successful season in 2011 for the Portland Trail-Blazers. Mills will most likely play backup to Steve Nash in Phoenix. He tweeted about the signing saying "On my way to the @PhoenixSuns! Can't wait to play with @the_real_nash and the whole team."

Mills averaged 6 points and 2 assists in 12 minutes per game.

Good moves (Y) Thabeet has good potential video game-wise.

Team Leaders

Image
#13 PG | Steve Nash
Age: 38
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 178 lbs
College: Santa Clara
Experience: 15 Years

The heart and soul of the Phoenix Suns for the most part of a decade, Nash is the key player to the Suns' success. His terrific passing and court vision is some of the best we've ever seen, and he will play heavy minutes and will almost certainly win some games for his team. At age 38 though, and with the 2011/12 season being his contract year, Nash has decided he will not continue in Phoenix unless they suddenly begin to compete for a championship. It's do or die time for Nash and his Suns.

Stat Goals: 14 PPG, 10 APG, 3.5 RPG, 1.4 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 50% 3PT

Image
#33 SF | Grant Hill
Age: 39
Height: 6' 8"
Weight: 225 lbs
College: Duke
Experience: 16 years

The Suns' second ageing star, Hill is, at age 39, the league's oldest players, but still one of the league's best SFs. A possible hall of fame worthy career was ruined by injuries, but Hill has come back from the dead to become a defensive stopper and still dynamic scorer. 2012 may be his last year in the NBA, so a strong send-off for the former Duke star would be great for him.

Stat Goals: 14 PPG, 6 RPG, 4 APG, 1.4 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 45% FG

Image
#4 C | Marcin Gortat
Age: 28
Height: 6' 11"
Weight: 240 lbs
College: - (Poland)
Experience: 4 Years

Gortat spent years being unappreciated in Orlando before getting traded last season to Phoenix, where his skills finally floated to the surface. Gortat is now one of the league's better Cs, with strong defence and a strengthening offensive P&R game, helped out a lot by a certain Canadian running the point. Probably a top-10 center in the league at his best.

Stat Goals: 13 PPG, 10 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.4 BPG, 0.5 SPG, 55% FG

Scoring Power

Image
#26 SG | Shannon Brown
Age: 26
Height: 6' 4"
Weight: 210 lbs
College: Michigan State
Experience: 5 years

Championship-winning guard Shannon Brown had an outstanding season off the bench for the Lakers in 2010/11, improving his jump-shot and capitalising on his tremendous athleticism. Now with the Suns he has earned his chance to start, and with Steve Nash throwing dimes to any open shooter, Brown will surely be one of the Suns' higher scorers. A terrific finisher at the rim, notably his outstanding dunking, Brown will aim for 15 or so points per-game.

Stat Goals: 15.5 PPG, 3 APG, 3 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 40% 3PT

Image
#8 PF | Channing Frye
Age: 28
Height: 6' 11"
Weight: 245 lbs
College: Arizona
Experience: 6 years

The sharpshooting forward/center Frye has been one of Nash's most trusted marksman for Phoenix in recent years. What he lacks in rebounding skills and defense, he makes up for with his terrific shooting touch and size. He will have to fight for minutes with Markieff Morris, but we can still expect a reliable season from Frye.

Stat Goals: 10.5 PPG, 1.5 APG, 5 RPG, 0.4 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 45% 3PT

Image
#3 SF | Jared Dudley
Height: 6' 7"
Weight: 225 lbs
College: Boston College
Experience: 4 years

Probably the best shooter on the team (except for Steve of course), Jared Dudley is lights out. He can play either the 2 or 3, and his terrific range would translate into points on any team. But it's not just his shooting. His defence has been improving rapidly, and he can now call himself an all-around player on both ends of the floor. Struggles to create his own shot.

Stat Goals: 12 PPG, 2 APG, 3 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 53% 3PT

Young Blood

Image
#11 PF | Markieff Morris
Height: 6' 10"
Weight: 245 lbs
College: Kansas
Experience: Rookie

The Suns' only rookie, drafted number 9 in this year's draft, Markieff is an energy man off the bench, and an exciting prospect. At 6' 10" he has size and strength, as well as a great appetite for rebounds. He can stretch the floor with his jumpshot too, so he should fit perfrectly into the team's setup..

Stat Goals: 8 PPG, 5 RPG, 1 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 40% 3PT

Image
#0 PG | Patrick Mills
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 185 lbs
College: Saint Mary's
Experience: 2 years

Patrick Mills is a lighting fast, sharpshooting point out of Australia. He can light it up on his night, with speed and ability to get to the rim, as well as his marksmanship from outside. At 23 years old he can hopefully become one of the Suns' pieces to build around in the future. He will play backup to Nash, and will definitely learn some stuff about how to run the point in the NBA.

Image
#34 C | Hasheem Thabeet
Height: 7' 3"
Weight: 263 lbs
College: Conneticut
Experience: 2 years

A stellar year at UCONN had Thabeet touted to become a defensive powerhouse in the league, as he was drafted 2nd overall to the Grizzlies in 2010. Two years later and many have written him off as a bust. Well he's in Phoenix now, and ready to prove the haters wrong. His shot blocking has impressed everyone, as well as his rebounding. At 7' 3", can he build a career as a dominant defensive player?
