Prologue
The Last Wish

With 8 seconds left the championship was on the line. Gainesville Hurricanes were behind by 1 and had possesion.
Around 15 000 people in the hall were on the feet. Hurricanes played on home court and all parents and family members
were holding their head hoping that they will celebrate state championship in few minutes.
Olympia high school was planning their last defense.
“Don't let Marcus score. Don't let him score. ” Olympia coach said to his players, who were unbeaten the whole season.
Marcus Ayres had 29 points already. At 6'9'' he was able to play any position from 1 to 4. His shooting skills were amazing
and thats why he was known as the best high school player in Florida and among top 10 in whole United States. He was
ready to lead his high school to state championship. His biggest help came from his twin brother Gannon Ayres who had
15 points in the game. The referee called both teams back on the court.
“8 seconds, 8 seconds ” Marcus was nervous. Hurricanes quickly inbounded the ball. Gannon got past his defender with a
crossover. 5 seconds left . He went right into the lane but had no where to go because two Olympia big guys were waiting
to block him. But one man was left uncovered in the corner. It was his brother Marcus . 2 seconds left. Olympia coach
held his breath along with 15 000 people in the hall. Marcus was wide open and took a quick shot. While the ball was in
the air the buzzer sounded. The ball was in the air for a long time...

Gannon and Marcus had a tough childhood. Their mother died when they were 3 and their father was killed when they were 7.
They lived with their grandmother in Florida. Marcus and Gannon had a great relationship.
They were playing basketball whole day. One on one, two on two, three on three... It was everything they had,
the orange ball. After 9th grade Marcus decided to go to Gainesville high school which was near to their home in Florida.
Gannon decided join him, because they wanted to win national championship together. Marcus was a bit more problematic in his childhood but never caused any serious
trouble. As long as he had the basketball he had no problems.

“ Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssssshhhhhhh ” Marcus held his hands high in jubilation. They are champions. They've made it.
Brothers Ayres are on top. Gannon was just standing on the middle of the court. He coudn't move. Marcus was a captain of
his highschool. He cut the net off the basket and put it around Gannon´s head. The fans were running around the court and
celebrating the state championship. Marcus and Gannon lifted the trophy in the air and after that, around 30 reporters wanted
to talk with Marcus Ayres the star of Gainesville Hurricanes.

After three hours Gainesville Hurricanes were heading to Miami, where big party was held for the champions.
Marcus and Gannon were driving home. Marcus was talking all the time. “ We made it bro, thats for mom and dad. I know they
are proud.”
Gannon gave a high five to his brother. Suddenly the horn of the truck driving towards their car sounded. Marcus turned right
but it was too late. The truck hit the car on the drivers side. Silence.

Gannon looked around. He was alive and well only his left foot hurt him a bit. He looked at Marcus who was sitting next to him.
He was barely breathing. He looked at Gannon and said : “ I only hope you make it in basketball, become an NBA champion for
mom, dad and me. We'll watch your every game so don't dissapoint us.” Marcus tried to laugh but he coudn't. He closed his
eyes and passed away. Gannon was just sitting there in shock. Mom, dad and now brother. At this moment Gannon decided that
last words Marcus said will become reality. He only had one goal in his life.

Chapter 1

Gannon woke up from the coma doctors put him in before surgery, with a pain in his left knee. He realised the pain was stronger then before.
Shock was gone, and reality started to knock on the door. Gannon was thinking about his brother. The memories were running thru his
head. But he suddenly realised there is no time to rest for him and for thinking about his brother. Gannon Ayers was on a mission. He waited for
a doctor and asked him right away :'' When will I be able to play basketball again?''. Doctor looked at him suprised and said:'' I'm sorry for your
brother. We coudn't help him.'' then he looked down and checked the diagnosis. '' I can't say when will you be able to play basketball, but you
must be happy if you will ever run again.'' Gannon didn't care about the second part of the sentence. '' How long do I have to remain in this
hospital?''. Doctor explained that he will remain in the hospital for one more week, before he can leave.

Gannon got his first visit just three hours later. It was his grandmother. She was there for around fifteen minutes and left the room in tears.
Gannon was happy to see her, and he thought she was only person he had left in this world. But the second visit was the biggest surpise for Gannon. Altough
it didn't happened until third day in hospital. Gannon was expecting his grandmother again, but instead there were around 200 fans allowed to
enter the hospital and visit injured guy. 200 parents and friends that rooted for him and his brother every single game. He wasn't so alone after
all. People were by his side and were ready to help him. So did LeBron James.

Probably the biggest NBA star entered his room after the fans left. He came in with another person but Gannon had no idea who that was. LeBron
said that he wants to help him if there is anyway for doing it. LeBron once came to watch Gainesville high school to see Marcus play and met with
him after the game. But Gannon had no idea that he could rely on that guy. LeBron was there ready to help him, and suddenly he introduced the
guy next to him. '' Gannon, this is Mike Mancias, my conditioning trainer. He can help you with your rehabilitation and I can workout with you in
the offseason when you get ready to play. I wish you to become and NBA player, I hope you will play basketball again, to keep the memory of your
brother alive.'' LeBron had no idea that Gannon had even bigger plans than that.

The curse of Gannon Ayres

Gannon Ayres is a 18-year old basketball player like any other. Well, not really.
Gannon knows everything about losing, losing in the most paiful way possible.

But not on the basketball court.

At the age of three his mom, passionate smoker, died after a long battle with lung
cancer. Four years later his father was killed in a robbery. After that, Gannon lived with
his brother at their grandmother's house.

Until two days ago, when car accident took away his brother's life and left Gannon with injured
knee that could mean the end of his basketball career. A year long rehabilitation could mean that
Gannon won't have a chance to play basketball on any college in division 1 of NCAA. Even if he
gets better and steps on basketball court again he probably won't be even close to his old form.

But the biggest question is, what else can go wrong for this guy? And how strong is he, to rise again
after another tragic fall?

Gannon Ayres bothered by knee injury in Draft Combine

Gannon Ayres made it to the Draft Combine roster and played three games to showcase his talent to NBA scouts. It was clear that his knee injury suffered more than three months is still bothering him.
He averaged 3.0 points 1 rebound and 1.3 assists in only 9 minutes per game due to his injury. His team lost all three.

"I´m blessed to be back on the court and to be able to play, although only minor minutes. Am I 100%? No, right now I don`t think I`m at 50 percent. It still hurts me, and I understand that I may not be drafted this year. But I won`t give up.˝Gannon is actually expected to be drafted somewhere in the second round. Many people think that his mentor LeBron James will tryy to bring him to Miami Heat to tutor him even further as a great SF.
