MEET THE TEAM

Nikola Pekovic

Postion: C/PF
Age: 25
Height: 6'11
Weight: 243 lbs
Years Pro: 2

The big Serb is entering his sophomore year and is in for a big one. Early tips say that Peko has a shot at starting for the Wolves where he would thrive. After averaging 5.5ppg and 3.0rpg last year, Nikola will be hoping to bring his A-game to increase his productivity and hopefully nail down a starting spot. The prospect is reportedly thrilled to be in Minnesota, and sources say that at the moment he will re-sign with the Wolves when his contract is up in two years time. Here's hoping that Nikola can have a big season in 2011/12!

Brad Miller

Postion: C
Age: 35
Height: 7'0
Weight: 261 lbs
Years Pro: 14

Brought to Minnesota in a draft-day trade that sent Jonny Flynn packing to Houston, Brad Miller is the only real veteran of the team. He is an ex-all star who averaged 15.9ppg, 9.0rpg and 3.4apg in his prime. However, Brad "Mac" miller is really getting on, no matter how you look at it, 34 is not young. He wil most likely be seldom used, however he should contribute nicely when used. Whatever you do, don't add Miller to your fantasy team.

Lazar Hayward

Postion: SF
Age: 24
Height: 6'6
Weight: 225 lbs
Years Pro: 2

Hang on, he's still playing for the Wolves? Don't get used to Hayward as he very well might not be around for long. Last year Kevin Love set the record for most consecutive double-doubles, maybe Lazar can set the record for most consecutive DNPs?

Wayne Elington

Postion: SG
Age: 23
Height: 6'4
Weight: 200 lbs
Years Pro: 3

Ellington has been a solid role player for the Wolves since being drafted in David Kahn's infamous '09 draft day. He is always a threat from downtown however he struggles to be consistent. He is still very young and has ages of time to develop as a player, and I believe he should be around for future Timberwolves' plans. However he should be really fighting for minutes, and shouldn't expect much with the new acquisition of Ricky Rubio to take up more space. I'm tipping a solid year for Wayne, however he will not improve drastically.

Anthony Tolliver

Postion: PF/C
Age: 26
Height: 6'9
Weight: 243 lbs
Years Pro: 4

Tolliver is a decent player caught in the crowd of big men in Minnesota. He is currently in his contract year and has tweeted that he wants to return to 'Sota next year. He really needs to earn an extension though, because there's folks like Beasley and Love are runnin' 'round, Tolliver needs to be the best PF in town! Hopefully he has a good year, I guess we just have to wait and see.

Darko Milicic

Postion: C
Age: 26
Height: 7'0
Weight: 275 lbs
Years Pro: 9

Fan favourite Darko Milicic is still a Wolf and will be pumped to have a shot at improving again. Averaging a career-highs in the form of 8.8ppg, 1.5apg and 2.0bpg in 2010/11, Darko is in the best form of his career and will hope to build on last season's efforts. The artist formerly known as the Human Victory Cigar has really turned it up recently, and will hopefully get it up in the coming season.

Sebastian Telfair

Postion: PG
Age: 26
Height: 6'0
Weight: 175 lbs
Years Pro: 8

It's a bit of a shame to see Telfair most likely have a reduced role due to the arrival of Spanish phenom Ricky Rubio, however whenever Telfair gets on the court he will be dangerous. The little guy can show some fight, and will be looking forward to playing with Kevin Love and Michael Beasley again.

Ricky Rubio

Postion: PG
Age: 21
Height: 6'4
Weight: 180 lbs
Years Pro: R

Basketball fans all over the globe have been looking forward to the arrival of Ricky Rubio. As everyone is aware, the Spaniard was drafted in 2009 along with a plethora of point guards but has only just come over. The pass-first player will be looking to make an immediate impact in America and will more than likely do so. He will be the 6th man for atleast the first game, however I don't think that it will take too long for Rubio to be starting over Luke Ridnour. All the best to him.

Luke Ridnour

Postion: PG
Age: 30
Height: 6'2
Weight: 175 lbs
Years Pro: 9

Ridnour has been apart of the NBA for as long as Darko Milicic, and was picked 14th in the famous '03 draft class. Now at the age of 30, and with a decent career behind him, Ridnour will be think about chasing a ring. He doesn't necessarily want out of the Wolves, it's that he is not opposed to being traded. Sure to lose minutes to Ricky Rubio, will Ridnour have enough? Or will his loyalty shine through as he battles on the Wolves' bench? Time will tell.

Anthony Randolph

Postion: PF/C
Age: 22
Height: 6'11
Weight: 225 lbs
Years Pro: 4

Randolph was brought to Minnesota in the blockbuster Carmelo Anthony trade, and has really shone in Minny. He has quickly won over the fans hearts, however he is amongst the massive logjam in the T'Wolves' front court. In his contract year, Minnesota will definitely want him back for years to come and hopefully he agrees. My tip is that Randolph is in for a MASSIVE year.

Wesley Johnson

Postion: SG/SF
Age: 24
Height: 6'7
Weight: 205 lbs
Years Pro: 2

Wes J is coming back for round two with the Wolves in his sophomore year. He has brought crowds out of their seats many-a time and will continue to do so. Remaining as a starter, he will be a big factor in the success of the young team so if he's firing, the Wolves are firing. There have grumblings that Johnson is slightly discontent in Minny, however he is not too bad. Cheers to Wesley - great young player with plenty of talent. Here's hoping he can put it to use.

Martell Webster

Postion: SF/SG
Age: 24
Height: 6'7
Weight: 235 lbs
Years Pro: 7

He goes alright.

Michael Beasley

Postion: SF/PF
Age: 22
Height: 6'10
Weight: 245 lbs
Years Pro: 4

B-Easy had a breakout season after being traded from the Miami Heat. Starting at 3 for the first game, Beasley has got to be pumped for a big season alongside Kevin Love. His only issues are his personal problems, drugs, alcohol and females. As well as a lack of dedication. If he is psyched, he will have a monster season and will cement his spot as apart of the T'Wolves' future.

Kevin Love

Postion: PF/C
Age: 23
Height: 6'10
Weight: 260 lbs
Years Pro: 4

Coming off the back of a marvelous 20/15 season, Mr. Most Improved Player wants another big year. Much like Beasley and Johnson, if Love is hot than the Wolves will be hot. Love is in his contract year and states that he desires to return, a massive bonus for Minnesota. Unquestionably the team leader, Love is expected to once again be an all-star, however he may suffer the infamous "MIP curse" (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/955906-kevin-love-and-the-nba-most-improved-player-curse) which will put a massive dent in the Wolves' aim of improving. Fire up K-Love, you're in for a big one.

HORROR START FOR WOLVES AGAINST ATLANTA
2nd of November, 2011

The Atlanta Hawks have thrashed the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-98 to kick off their season in style. Minnesota did not once have the lead throughout the course of the match, and bar a massive run at the end of the third quarter they never looked a chance. To add insult to injury, Michael Beasley left the floor after registering 20 points and 4 assists in 17 minutes with a suspected back strain. Ricky Rubio also looked solid on debut, however at times he was a massive defensive liability. Kevin Love narrowly missed out on a double-double, as did Wesley Johnson.

Minnesota's three point shooting was very inconsistent, however many players stepped up and hit big threes during the course of the game. Two key moments were when Wesley Johnson blocked Josh Smith off of a fast break, and two minutes later Wesley Johnson did the same to Kirk Hinrich. Interestingly, Darko Milicic flirted with a double-double, having scored 6 points and nabbed 6 rebounds at the end of the third term. Much to the dismay of the Timberwolve fans, he could only manage two more points to round out his game. Anthony Randolph also brought a lot of energy off the bench.

Guard Ricky Rubio steps out onto the court for the first time in the NBA. He played decent for the first time, however will hope to have a shot at the starting lineup as soon as possible.

MINNESOTA DEALT BLOW AFTER SIGNING A NEW COACH
3rd of November, 2011

A day after the 17point drubbing by the Atlanta Hawks, the Minnesota Timberwolves have assigned a new coach in Edwin Trent. Trent is known for his offensive work and also has plenty of room to grow as a coach. Hopefully he change something in the Wolves; it appeared they had no structure against Atlanta.

However, key performer Michael Beasley will not be at his highest level. Beasley went down after shooting a contested jumper from the elbow. The shot was successful however Beasley hit the ground clutching his back. It was feared that Beasley suffered something that would take him away for a few games, however the only time he will miss was the second half against Atlanta. He has a lower back strain which will affect him for just 1-2 weeks. He will play very limited minutes however he will try and make an impact when on the floor. Martell Webster will start in his absence.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-1) @ PHILADELPHIA 76ERS (0-1)[/color)
Iggy's career high gives Philly a blowout win
4th of November, 2011

After a lacklustre performance against the Atlanta Hawks, the Minnesota Timberwolves came out firing against Philly, scoring the first 7 points, all at the hands of Wesley Johnson. Johnson had a career night, setting new highs for points (29), field goals attempted (28), field goals made (14), steals (5), defensive rebounds (6), offensive rebounds (3). However, after a solid start the Wolves fell away to nothing and were comprehensibly beaten 119-94. Minnesota were very well in the game up until half time, where they crumbled.

Johnson scored 19 of his 29 points in the second half, and was particularly strong throughout the fourth. Kevin Love was also solid, with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Nikola Pekovich also impressed in his 4 minutes of action, going 2-2 from the field.

For the 76ers, Andre Iguodala (35 points, 4 rebounds) and Elton Brand (6 points, 8 rebounds) were very imposing, both of them had stats that weren't as good as they played. Evan Turner was almost a non-factor, struggling the whole game and not being able to do anything special. They also has 3 less turnovers that the T'Wolves, a stat which proved to be a key factor.

What They Said

"They were very competitive the whole night, however they just turned the ball over to much and allowed to score almost 40 points on the fast break. That's just unacceptable. They're a yougn team like us, and they have plenty of room to develop and grow. Watch out Northwest, the Wolves will be a force soon." - Jordan Player of the Game Andre Iguodala, who set a new personal best in points (35) he dropped some vicious dunks all night and was a very potent threat.

I think that you must bring a more talented shooting guard to your team..i would suggest Vince Carter or Jamal Crawford.

You could almost trade Ridnour and telfair for a better Pg ( kyle lowry,Aaron brooks.etc) . TO save Cap space and make your team better offensivly. (you could also ask for a draft pick.)

I play with the wolves in my assoc. also... you're definately going to need a shooting gaurd.
Wesley, Beasley, webster, williams... these guys all need shots and at least one of them needs to go
at least that's how I feel. I traded webster to bring in some defense.

FIRST TASTE OF SUCCESS FOR THE WOLVES
6th-12th November, 2011

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-3) VS PHOENIX SUNS (3-1)
[PLAYED]

Darko Milicic had an explosive 11 points and 13 rebounds in the Minnesota Timberwolves' latest drubbing, this time at the hands of Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. Minnesota lost by a grand total of 24 points, going down 114-93. Darko looked good on the stat sheet for the Wolves, also registering a sick block, however Luke Ridnour (22 points, 6 assists and 3 steals) and Wesley Johnson (18 points) led the way for Minnesota. Kevin Love came close to his first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 6 points but shot terrible, going 2-13 from the field. Nikola "The Other Serbian" Pekovic had 4 points and and assist in 7 minutes of game time.

A major factor for the Wolves' woes was both their turnover count and their shooting. Minny registered 14 turnovers in comparion to Phoenix's 7 which made sure they were out of the game from early on. The home team also show itself in the foot by shooting 40-85 from the field and 6-19 beyond the arc. On the brightside, Darko missed the only free throw for the side who shot 7-8.

For the Suns, Vince Carter (32 points, 5 rebounds) and Michael Pietrus (24 points) led the way, helped by Steve Nash who amasses 16 assists as well as 12 points, 4 steals and 6 boards. They started out very strongly, leading by 9 at the end of the first term. This lead stretched out to 22 at half time, and even though the Wolves cut the lead back by three throughout the third quarter, the Wolves had no chance.

PHOENIX SUNS - 34|31|26|26|117
MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES - 25|18|29|21|93

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-4) VS SACRAMENTO KINGS (4-1)
[SIMULATED]

The Sacramento Kings have gone down against the Timberwolves, giving them their first win of the season. The score ended up being a total reversal from the thrashing Minnesota received at the hands of Phoenix the other night. Every Timberwolf fired against the Kings, mainly Luke Ridnour (19 points, 9 assists, steals) who is in stellar form, Darko Milicic (17 points, 5 rebounds) and Anthony Randolph (16 points, 7 rebounds). Kevin Love also notched up his first double-double of the year, with a dominant 17 point and 10 rebound display. Rookie Ricky Rubio showed that he can ball in the U.S with 12 points, and Serbian Nikola Pekovic (10 points, 3 rebounds) was also great off the bench. Wesley Johnson (3 rebounds, 2 assists) only scored 5 points in 34 minutes of game time, however he only put up two shots from the floor, both being threes, and nailed one. He shot 2-4 from the charity stripe, a definite improvemnt point, however added a block and a steal to show his defensive prowess.

Minnesota won every quarter of the game, having only won a couple this season, and showed what the young guns can really do. They dominated defensively, Marcus Thornton was the top scorer with 19 points for the Kings, and shut down Tyreke Evans (16 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals) fairly effectively, as at times it looked as if Evans could drop 40.

Next week, Minnesota have New Jersey at New Jersey, followed by two home games against Milwaukee and the San Antonio Spurs; finishing up at Memphis. This schedule is in no way easy, however with the new found confidence in the Minnesota camp, perhaps they could pull through for a few upsets?

NLSC DRAFTEES!

To vaguely differentiate from other associations, the way to gain skills is (like everyone else) a prediction contest/random game. The winner will receive +5, second +3 and third +1.

The stat will be from a random number generator, meaning that anything could happen.

To give you guys some sort of license on your players you choose the basic play style, i.e athletic, scoring and so forth. Without further adue:

DRAFT FORM
Name:
College/From:
Age:
Jersey Number:
Dominant Hand:
Position:
Play Style:
Secondary Position:
Personality:
Height:
Weight:
Skin Tone:
Muscle Tone:
Hair Style:
Hair Colour:
Accessories:

Just drop a PM - every NLSCer will be clean shaven, a contest will be run to give people facial hair...

Look to the top post for mine as well as others in the very near future.

The first competition will be writing a very short backstory for your draftee. This is not compulsory for any draftee. Just PM the thing and life's good.

The one that makes me laugh/cry/I enjoy the most will win. Deadline is on Boxing Day Aus time.

The reward will +15 to use on ANY one stat the winner wants. Gee up.

Week 3 report will be done heaps soon. Also, up the Wolves, 21 point win over Andrew Bogut and co.

BEST WEEK FOR WOLVES YET
13th-19th of November, 2011

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (1-4) @ NEW JERSEY NETS (3-2)
[SIMMED]

Coming off the back of the ecstasy of the first win of the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves traveled to New Jersey to build their win count against the Nets. Unfortunately, the duo Deron Williams (24 points, 10 assists) and Brook Lopez (14 points, 8 rebounds) were too much for Minny, who went down by 38 points. It was a long night for the Wolves, it seemed to go longer than Kris Humphries' marriage. Humphries was a key contributor with 11 points and 17 rebounds.

On the other end of the spectrum, Michael Beasley returned from injury, posting 21 pointss and 4 rebounds, Kevin Love got another double-double with 10 & 11, and Luke Ridnour (11 assists) still showed that he is in career form. Anthony Randolph (16 points, 9 rebounds) was solid, and Wes Johnson took defensive honours, getting 4 blocks and 3 steals to go with his 7 rebounds.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES - 19|15|8|20|62
NEW JERSEY NETS - 20|28|25|27|100

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (1-5) VS MILWAUKEE BUCKS (4-3)
[SIMMED]

Coming back home against the Bucks, the Minnesota Timberwolves won their second game of the season; winning 110-94. The Wolves had the game won from the tip-off, as Martell Webster (12 points, 3 rebounds, 4-4 3PT) hit a three to begin the game. From there, Minnesota outscored Milwaukee by 8 points in the first quarter. The T'Wolves D ws the highlight, as the team racked up 6 steals and 7 blocks. The stars on show were Kevin Love (19 points, 6 rebounds), Michael Beasley (17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 turnovers) and Luke Ridnour (15 points, 9 assists). Anthony Randolph also chipped in with 16 points in 17 minutes.

For the Bucks, Andrew Bogut had a solid 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Stephen Jackson (12 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists) and Brandon Jennings (12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) chimed in nicely to sort of contribute. However, Jackson and Jennings both only shot 5-18 from the field as the team strung together a 31-78.

MILWAUKEE BUCKS - 23|32|21|18|94
MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES - 31|28|27|24|110

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (2-5) VS SAN ANTONIO SPURS (4-3)
[PLAYED]

In one of the most exciting NBA games of the season, the San Antonio Spurs were upset by a Minnesota Timberwolves outfit keen to impress. Minnesota were able to squeak out a 104-103 victory, the match going down to a final Manu Ginobli shot. Luke Ridnour (23 points, 11 rebounds {career high}, 8 assists, 2 blocks) had an amazing night, and Wesley Johnson (22 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks) turned his game up to play a vital factor in the win. Michael Beasley had 11 points at the half, but could only score 2 more points on his way to 13. Kevin Love (19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists) hit a vital three consecutive 3's to give the Wolves the lead down the stretch.

For the Spurs, Manu Ginobli (29 points, 6 rebounds) lead the way, supported by Tim Duncan (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Richard Jefferson (15 points, 5 rebounds) who were both constant threats.

The game was always in the balance until the third quarter, where the Spurs managed win the quarter by 11 points. The Wolves were considered to be out of the contest, so they just started shooting threes. However, when they came within 4 points, they started playing smarter ball. They had a 2 point lead with a minute left, but two easy field goals saw San Antonio reverse the lead. With thirty seconds left, Manu Ginobli went to the rim, however he was swatted away by Luke Ridnour, who then regained the ball and the Wolves called a timeout. By now there were only five seconds left, and when Kevin Love inbounded the ball to an open Ridnour, he nailed the three for the lead with two seconds on the clock. The Target Center was going wild as Manu Ginobli was passed the ball and put up a three, only to be rejected by Michael Beasley, giving Minnesota the win!

SAN ANTONIO SPURS - 23|30|31|19|103
MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES - 25|29|20|30|104

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (3-5) @ MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES (4-4)

After coming off a high, the Grizzlies thwarted the Wolves resurgence with a 22 point victory. Zach Randolph (36 points, 9 rebounds) and Rudy Gay (25 points, 9 rebounds) shone in an impressive defensive effort leading to a victory.

For Minnesota, Michael Beasley (20 points, 6 rebounds) was the high man, and Luke Ridnour (16 points, 6 assists, 5 steals) again showed he is in career form. Kevin Love (14 points, 8 rebounds) again fell agonisingly short of a double-double as did Darko Milicic (10 points, 8 rebounds). DaVonte Hughes

Born in Portsmouth, Va to a seemingly nice and beautiful family, But that was only the beginning, he was beat by his father every day and even had to watch his mom get beat everytime in his drunken rage. And from this day on he decided that he is going to be better than his dad and make something of his life. He started basketball in high school playing pg at 5'10. Scoring when he had the change but mostly was a defensive presence. He had scouts scouting him left and right. Eventually he chose a college. He plyed for that college starting every four years and became a scoring and defensive presence and from their he is ready for the nba. He wants to play for his favorite team the atlanta hawks or the Minnesota timeberwolves
