SEASON PREVIEW

Look Forward To: The emergence of the young guns that lead the Timberwolves. Kevin Love, Johnny Flynn, Michael Beasley and Wesley Johnson all hope to make their marks on the NBA by taking the competition by storm. Only time will tell whether these young men can turn the fortune for the bumbling Wolves. Love is an amazing rebounder which the T'Wolves need to strengthen their team and Michael Beasley provides a backup at power forward and can also contribute at the 3. Johnny Flynn has yet to prove his worth however he has great potential and can quickly become a mainstay in the Wolves starting lineup. Rookie Wesley Johnson is a promising young man from Syracuse who can dominate either at the two-guard or at small forward. It will be interesting to see whether he performs in his rookie year.

Expect to See: A high draft pick. The Wolves believe that they have a rough chance of sneaking into the playoffs but without major changes the lads from Minnesota will be receiving a very promising player in the 2011 NBA Draft. A fifty loss season is very likely to occur unless the Wolves can bond together and string a lot of wins together. The lack of experience in the side will be detrimental to the team as they lack a player who has been prominent for many years.

Trades?: Darko Milicic. Corey Brewer. Sebastian Telfair. Luke Ridnour. All of these players could be traded at any moment. Can the Wolves GM make a few good moves in order for a boost on the roster. Can the mysterious GM pull off anything better than David Kahn? Bloody hope so...

Season Prediction: 27-55. A slight improvement from last year but nothing amazing. Look for a few deals looking towards the future and a few stars being made in Minneapolis.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-1) vs SACRAMENTO KINGS (1-0)

SACRAMENTO SNATCH WIN FROM THE WOLVES
27th of October, 2010

The Saramento Kings have overcome an eight point half time deficit to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves by six points. The Wolves were leading from midway through the first quarter until the final two minutes of the game. Wesley Johnson had an amazing game on debut, scoring 22 points and gathering 7 rebounds and 3 assists. He was the only scorer for the T'Wolves who could be relief upon for the whole game. Johnson was ably supported by Corey Brewer who had 17 points and 11 rebounds and nailed 4-5 three-pointers. Johnny Flynn and Kevin Love also both had double doubles and Michael Beasly chipped in with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

For the Kings, Tyreke Evans starred after a quiet first term, scoring a game high 28 points and also recording 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Carl Landry also had 18 points and Beno Udrih recorded 17 points. The Kings got a total of 14 steals for the game which is a major reason for their victory; the Timberwolves turned the ball over 16 times compared to the Kings turning it over twice. The Kings jacked up 86 shots and could only get 40 which shows how the T'Wolves shut them down for the middle stages of the game.

In the fourth quarter, the Kings were led by Tyreke Evans in their comeback before Tyreke took a hard knock going up for a lay up and injured himself. It was later discovered that Evans received back spasms and his game will be affected for the next 2-4 weeks. Sacramento led by nine with ten seconds left on the clock; but Johnny Flynn's dire effort at putting in a miraculous comeback fell short only after one trey.

After the season just started three days ago, an incomprehensible amount of injuries have occurred. Many stars are affected by injury, though few are unable to play. LeBron, Rondo and David Lee and just three people injured:

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-2) vs MILWAUKEE BUCKS (1-1)

BOGUT-LESS BUCKS PIP MINNESOTA
29th of October, 2010

The Minnesota Timberwolves have again lost after leading for the majority of the game. The Wolves had a great first quarter led by guards Johnny Flynn and Corey Brewer to have a ten point lead at the break. However the Bucks rallied early on in the second to cut back the lead to one at half time. From there the Bucks took it to the young home side to reverse the score and have a five point lead going into the last. Minnesota player their best of the night in the last quarter; however costly turnovers and bad defensive possessions cost them. Corey Magette was easily the best for the Bucks, scoring 13 points in the last quarter. He took the ball to the rim on almost every occasion and his defenders could not stop him. For the Wolves, Wesley Johnson was the high man, however struggled at the other end and turned the ball over 5 times, 3 of which came in the last five minutes of the contest. Johnny Flynn finished 1 point short of a second consecutive double-double but still dished out 14 assists. Corey Brewer also played valiantly throughout the entirety of the contest.

The last 10 seconds of the game failed to produce a score by the Wolves, and Michael Beasley was forced to put up a contested jumper to force the game into overtime. He was unable to do so and the siren rang out to signal the final end of the game. The fact that Minnesota could not find and open player on this play goes to show how they need someone very experienced in order to produce in these clutch moments.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. These stats are a lot less than they should be, as Maggette was easily the best player out on the floor tonight. When asked about the T'Wolves he said, "Man, these boys contested every jumpshot tonight, they just allowed us to get into the paint way too easily, and you can't do that at this level."

OCTOBER: A MONTH IN REVIEW

The season has been going for a week now and a lot has happened. The Clippers, Lakers and Thunder are all on top of the West and surprisingly the Raptors are leading the East. A major aspect as to why the result are why they are is injuries. Almost every team in the league has a player who is hurt or is completely incapable of playing. The majority of these injuries are only expected to affect player's for about 2-4 weeks; however the Cavaliers have lost Anderson Varejao for the entire season due to a torn MCL. Hopefully for the interests of all teams the injury rate can slow down for the rest of the season.

The success of the two LA teams is heating up the rivalry between the two; both are so far 3-0 and are both promising to have stellar seasons. Kevin Durant is also leading the Thunder very well. The Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns are all yet to get a win to their name despite playing well in all encounters. This is especially surprising for the Bulls, who are tipped to being championship material. Aside from that, the rest of the clubs are all cluttered around the middle of the two conferences and as always will even out during the course of November.

BREWER INJURED!
October 31st, 2010

We have just received word that Minnesota SG Corey Brewer has been injured following an arduous training session in Minneapolis. Our sources say the Brewer picked up a very severe ankle sprain and will be out from anywhere between 2-4 weeks. This is a blow for the T'Wolves who, based on performances in the first three games, without Brewer are like Harry Potter without magic. A sad, sad boy with a stick.

This injury means Michael Beasley will come into the starting line up as the 3 and starring rookie Wes Johnson will move into Brewer's position at shooting guard. This is a major blow for Minnesota, as Brewer has been a reliable scorer (who had a career high 4 three-pointers against Milwaukee) who can pull through when he is needed. He is averaging 13.0ppg and 6.7rpg as well as contributing with amazing pressure at the other end of the floor.

This injury goes to show how easily players can be struck down with the workload of a full NBA schedule. Officials the the Timberwolves will surely keep players such as Wesley Johnson and Kevin Love away from a massive workload.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-4) @ MIAMI HEAT (4-1)

DWAYNE WADE AND THE HEAT THRASH MINNESOTA
2nd of November, 2010

The Wolves' first game of November saw them travel to Florida to take on the Miami Heat. Minnesota were in the game for the first five minutes of the game, leading 9-8 before the Heat took over to have a 7 point lead at the end of the quarter. The Timberwolves then produced probably the best quarter of their season so far, being out scored by the Heat by 1 point. This was due to the combination of Wesley Johnson (22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) and Luke Ridnour (9 point, 4 assists) who played very limited minutes. The pace of the game slowed down throughout the entirety of the second half, and the score for the second half ended 56-46, a change of pace from the run and gun feel to the second quarter of the game.

Jonny Flynn and Michael Beasley both had very good games, nailing 14 and 10 points respectively and they led a third quarter charge that reduced a large deficit to just 7 at one stage. The Wolves collectively had 12 blocks for the game, and LeBron James was rejected on 4 different occasions. The T'Wolves may not be amazing, but as always they battle in order to make a push for Ws.

WOLVES AND WIZARDS AGREE TO DEAL
3rd of November, 2010

The Minnesota Timberwolves have gotten rid of two seldom used bench players for a back up at the point guard position. They have traded unhappy guard Sebastian Telfair and forward Lazar Hayward in return for three-point specialist guard Kirk Hinrich. Hinrich has two years left on his current contract worth $17 million. The veteran guard is expected to take the sixth man role and will spend a rather large amount of time on the floor. The trade means that the T'Wolves also have another player who can play SG after Corey Brewer's injury.

The Wizards receive the discontent Sebastian Telfair who was been struggling to steal minutes from sophomore Jonny Flynn and Luke Ridnour.

Timberwolves Trade Grade: B
Wizards Trade Grade: C

KEVIN LOVE TO BE RESTED FOR CLASH WITH MAGIC

Big man Kevin Love will surprisingly be rested for the game against the Orlando Magic; a game where he was expected to take on centre Dwight Howard. This means that Michael Beasley will step into the 4 and rookie Wesley Johnson (20.2ppg) will return to his natural position at small forward. Kirk Hinrich will then step into the SG spot and start in his debut for the winless Timberwolves. Nikola Pekovic is also starting for the first time in his career over Darko Milicic The expected team will be:

PG: Jonny Flynn
SG: Kirk Hinrich
SF: Wesley Johnson
PF: Michael Beasley
C: Nikola Pekovic
6: Luke Ridnour

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-5) @ ORLANDO MAGIC (2-2)

MAGIC SHOW TIMBERWOLVES NO LOVE
3rd of November, 2010

The Wolves were competitive for the first half; then stopped. Wesley Johnson led the Wolves with 16 points and 10 rebounds, as did Jonny Flynn who scored a team-high 17 points. Nikola Pekovic started for the first time in his career and managed to have a career night - breaking personal bests for points (13), rebounds (3) and assists (3). Michael Beasley started strong, however lost all of his mojo towards the end of the game. Kirk Hinrich was less than mediocre in his debut for the Wolves; scoring 1-6 field goals and turning the ball over 3 times.

The Timberwolves led for the majority of the first quarter, but a 12-2 run to end the quarter set the tone for the rest of the match. Jameer Nelson and Vince Carter were both hot from downtown, and Dwight Howard was unstoppable as always. Howard rejected Nikola Pekovic three times which changed the momentum of the game early on.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-7) @ HOUSTON ROCKETS (2-4)

POOR START LEAVES WOLVES WITH 7TH STRAIGHT
7th of November, 2010

A terrible first half for the Minnesota Timberwolves has cost them their best chance at winning so far in the 2010-11 season but were blown out by the Houston Rockets in front of a lackluster crowd. A 55-31 half time score made sure the Rockets secured their second win in front of a small but pumped crowd. Stern words from coach Kurt Rambis fired the visiting team up to lose the second half by only 1 point. Young guns Jonny Flynn and Wesley Johnson again led the way, backed up by Michael Beasley and Anthony Tolliver. Kevin Love again struggled, racking up his only points when he hit a three down the stretch. Love was tipped to dominate the league this year however has failed to have a good game and find consistency.

For the Rockets, Kevin Martin (19 points) and Luis Scola (13 points & 13 rebounds) led the way, helped by Yao Ming (16 points) and Kyle Lowry (16 points).

LUKE RIDNOUR INJURED; CLEARED TO PLAY
7th of November, 2010

Luke Ridnour strained his hamstring in the fourth quarter against the Rockets whilst trying to take a Kyle Lowry charge and will be affected by the injury for 1-2 weeks. This is not welcome news for the Wolves; who are missing guard Corey Brewer for another week or so. Minnesota are taking on the LA Lakers in two days and could really use the help of Brewer and a full health Ridnour.

Ridnour's minutes will be slightly affected, however he is already behind Jonny Flynn and the struggling Kirk Hinrich in the PG rotation.

Another poor outing for Love. See, this is the key reason why they're losing - you need to get more production out of your core star players.

I feel like the commentary says that every game, even when Kevin Durant has 30+, Eric Gordon has 20+, and I'm nearing a triple-double, yet the Miami Heat still insist on tearing us apart.

You need to lower the diff... never mind, 0-7 is perfectly realistic.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (0-8) @ LOS ANGELES LAKERS (8-0)

WOLVES GO DOWN BY 66 POINTS!
9th of November, 2010

What did the Laker say to the Timberwolf? Sick FG% bro!

The T'Wolves shot a dismal 20-71 on their way to the second worse loss in the NBA's history. Nothing special can be said about the Wolves, bar Anthony Tolliver's 3 treys in a row hit in the first quarter.

On the other end of the spectrum, Kobe Bryant (40 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists), Pau Gasol (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Shannon Brown (19 points) starred as the Lakers notched up a grand total of 126 points and continued their undefeated run throughout 2010-11. An 11-2 run right from the tip-off made sure Minnesota were never a threat as the Lakers dispatched them with ease.

Bloody woeful game. I simulated the second half because I knew it would be worse than 66 points...

Next game is against the Kings; will be simulated as I've already played them. That's followed by the Knicks, and I'm feeling a fairytale win in front of the home crowd.

I'm not too keen to lower the difficulty - bound to get better one day?

NLSC DRAFTEES!

To vaguely differentiate from other associations, the way to gain skills is (like everyone else) a prediction contest/random game. The winner will receive +5, second +3 and third +1.

The stat will be from a random number generator, meaning that anything could happen.

To give you guys some sort of license on your players you choose the basic play style, i.e athletic, scoring and so forth. Without further adue:

DRAFT FORM
Name:
College/From:
Age:
Jersey Number:
Dominant Hand:
Position:
Play Style:
Secondary Position:
Personality:
Height:
Weight:
Skin Tone:
Muscle Tone:
Hair Style:
Hair Colour:
Accessories:

Just drop a PM - every NLSCer will be clean shaven, a contest will be run to give people facial hair...

Look to the top post for mine as well as others in the very near future.
