Great team choice. I like the Magic, probably my favorite team in the East. Hope you get DH12 DPOY for more years to come, and rejuvenate Arenas' career! :)

Exodus, Thanks man :) Hope everything will turn out great.

Mavs4Life, I highly doubt that. Need to spread the scoring, despite Magic is known as a one-man scoring crew.

dare, Dead. Lol. Files just got deleted as in all of it including the game, so that left me nothing. That's my best story so far :facepalm2:

Valdis, I'll not be adding NLSC players for the first season at least, just want to focus on how real draft prospects blossom :)

Cruzerr, George7, osaki, Thanks!

Thierry •, Yes man. I'm a huge Arenas fan way back then, pretty sad to see his career now in real life. I'll try to revive him :)

Axel., Can't resist them. They are my favorite team in the East also, get Howard a ring and the MVP award :)

maksie, Thanks man. Glad to see you here.

To note all of you, the season will start at 2011-12 simming the 2010-11 season. I'm planning some trades to shake off the roster. One thing is for sure, bye Nelson

1) Good to see Nelson leaving the team (hopefully, that means Arenas/J-Rich is the new starting backcourt)
2) Just saw you're using my sliders, nice!

Blue & White Ignite | 2010-11 Season Recap

Postby Justine. on Tue May 31, 2011 8:47 pm

        Image

The Season It Was For The Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic had perhaps their one of the best season in 2010-11. They put themselves again in the Eastern Conference Finals but they lose to the Miami Heat on a grueling series which went beyond to seven games. Magic nearly got the edge but they can't simply found a solution to the Big Three who dominated them in the whole series. The Heat eventually became the new champions this year after ousting the defending champions Los Angeles Lakers.

A bright and looming season is waiting ahead for the Magic though, where they once again may look like a true Finals contender after this season's performance.

After a couple of huge early-season trades that transformed the team, we can say that it came out pretty effective. The bench improved, team's defense is always there, but the Magic is still labeled as a one-man team, represented by Dwight Howard.

As the season officially ended for the Magic, we look back on their season by grading each player on roster and team overall for the season.

        Image

Dwight Howard, C - Another great season by the Superman. He finished 3rd in MVP Voting, won his 3rd straight Defensive Player of the Year Award, named to the All-NBA 2nd Team, he also statistically led again the league in terms of rebounding and blocks.

What can you ask more? Howard is clearly contented with the Magic, but still, rumors around the league says that he's unhappy in Orlando and looking to play elsewhere. Howard is not done yet here in Magic town, he had his goals set for the title next season and will not betray his true blue fans.

        Grade: A -

        Image

Hedo Turkoglu, F - He's a part of the mega trade back in December where he returned back to Orlando and start showing flashbacks of 2009 when he help the team to reach the NBA Finals. Three years ago, Hedo was the NBA's Most Improved Player and considered an All-Star snub. What happened since then?

Turk loses his consistency from the regular season to the Playoffs, he struggled to found chemistry again with his old teammates especially to Howard. He seems to have gotten slower and ineffective. His decision making was also terrible and Stan Van Gundy noticed it. They are desperate now and may look to deal Hedo, but the fact that Hedo's on the books for over $22 million over the next two years makes the situation even more difficult.

        Grade: D +

        Image

Jason Richardson, G - J-Rich was brought here in part to replace Vince Carter with scoring and better perimeter game. Richardson displayed toughness but was never consistent offensive scorer the Magic were hoping like he was with Phoenix Suns last season when he led them in scoring in the playoffs.

At times, he would get hot from outside and shoot the Magic back into games. Other times, he would make silly mistakes on offense and would struggle to get around opposing teams' picks on defense. Not to mention his poor shooting percentage in Playoffs, where he just averaged a disappointing .397% and just .394% in three point land. Richardson is a free-agent and both Richardson and the Magic have interest in Richardson staying with Magic. The Magic won’t have any real options of finding someone better then Richardson in free agency. Look for Richardson and the Magic to work something out to keep Richardson in Orlando.

        Grade: C -

        Image

Gilbert Arenas, G - Agent Uno came over in a trade with Washington that reeked of desperation. Shipped over for fan-favorite Rashard Lewis, the teams were doing nothing more than swapping huge contracts.

But Arenas seems like living his contract, he had found a true team and a new role in Orlando. Surprisingly, Arenas played all of 82 games in this season, a completely opposite of last season where he was suspended. This last season, he was considered as a Sixth Man of the Year and finished 4th place. Arenas was major contributor for the Magic all season long and specially in Playoffs. He averaged a near 16 points per game in their series against the Miami Heat where he looked better than Jameer Nelson. Their coach SVG also addressed that he will feature more Arenas next season and will be a part of the team for a long term.

        Grade: C +

        Image

Jameer Nelson, G - Meerkat has certainly become the second-best player on the team. He's underrated around the league and does not get enough credits he deserve. Meer is lightning-quick, has deep range and possesses an uncanny ability to stop and pop. No. 14 also has superb ball-handling ability and can take over on offense for stretches at a time.

Nelson may have found again his shooting touch this year where he lost it last season. But looks like Nelson is not much a part of the Orlando's future as their general manager Otis Smith is formulating another magic trick. It's a safe bet his name will be mentioned in trade rumors as the Magic look to acquire another superstar to pair with Howard. Still, Nelson is really a major piece of Magic and he's also Dwight's best friend.

        Grade: B +

        Image

Brandon Bass, F - After five seasons in the NBA — two backing up Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas — Bass became a starting forward for the first time. He was fairly steady while splitting time with Ryan Anderson. Bass established career highs in points, rebounds, and minutes played.

Bass is the only power forward on the Magic who embraces contact and can really bang with other players on the low block. He also became the Magic's most reliable mid-range shooter. Although roughly 6-foot-7, Bass showed power inside, shaking off defenders in the paint on ferocious dunks. We are not sure though if they will put Bass on the trading block this offseason, considering the Magic's needs at shooting guard and power forward.

        Grade: B

        Image

J.J. Redick, G - Redick, who backed up Vince Carter and Jason Richardson this season before and after trades, turned in a solid season after the Magic matched the Bulls' offer sheet for him last summer. He dropped down his scoring numbers this season though, but he's the second-best option in the bench behind Arenas. Redick remained to be healthy throughout the season. But a poor performance in Playoffs haunted the Magic, where he just shot a forgettable .324 in the field.

        Grade: C

        Image

Ryan Anderson, F - Anderson received consistent minutes for the first time in his career this season, and he blossomed into one of the Magic's most efficient offensive players. His stats don't really tell the entire story of the impact he had on the team, but Anderson played with tenacity and aggressiveness all year. He fought for rebounds, dove for balls and wasn't afraid to body-up on defense.

He surprised everybody especially in Playoffs where he shot a whooping .489% in trifector and scored an average of 10.7 points per game. He lighted up the Heat for 22 points, including 4-6 from three in a losing effort in Game 6. The future is bright for Anderson and because of his youth and potential, Anderson possesses more trade value than perhaps any other Magic player. The Magic would like to keep him, though as he was considered to be an underrated scorer who's a nice complement to Howard.

        Grade: B -

        Image

Quentin Richardson, F - Richardson is a gritty player who embraces the opportunity to guard an opponent's best wing scorer. Richardson also seems to be good for team chemistry. But at this point in his career, Q is nothing more than a bench player who sees few minutes. Still, in the minutes he gives, Richardson has proven to be a capable defender. His shooting percentages were awful during the regular season where he posted .274% in the field, but that can be attributed to the lack of minutes given to him and the fact that he's a rhythm shooter.

        Grade: D +

        Image

Daniel Orton, C - The only listed center behind Howard. Orton, out of Kentucky is the Magic's first round pick last season. The Magic is hoping he can develop and be good backup to Dwight Howard next season which is one of Magic offseason needs. Orton has the potential and armed with a big body to fulfill these hopes.

        Grade: D

        Image

Chris Duhon, G - Duhon is signed by the Magic last offseason to a small contract. And he thrive to his role, a third string PG. As long as Nelson and Arenas are with the team to begin the 2011-12 season, as is expected, he will remain to that playing role. But considering his role, Duhon simply belonged to the team, he's not afraid of playing defense, he's not likely to see many minutes on this current team, but Duhon does have a role as an emergency point guard. He's not the type of player who won Orlando games, but he can make smart plays on a regular basis.

        Grade: D -

        Image

Earl Clark, F - Earl Clark was a throw-in from Phoenix received in the Vince Carter/Marcin Gortat for Jason Richardson/Hedo Turkoglu trade. In a sense, he was little more than a throw-in. Clark never gained a regular spot in the Magic's rotation. But still, his spot is needed for depth and bench production.

        Grade: D

        Image

Malik Allen, F - The Magic signed Allen to be a positive influence in the locker room and a dependable practice body, and Allen filled those roles this year when he was healthy. A hard-working guy who's played for eight teams throughout the last decade, Allen got along with his teammates this season and always provided wisdom. Allen could retain his role in the upcoming season, a towel waver in the bench.

        Grade: D
