Interview: Baron Davis and the Pacers

Steve Kerr does a brief interview with Baron Davis in the lockeroom:

SK : So Baron, let me be the first man, to welcome you to the Cavaliers! How do you feel?

BD: Thanks man, so far, it been a totally new experience. I`m feeling great right now, and hope to kick off the season in the right direction.

SK : Well then, tell me, how is the team preparing for the season? Does the absence of King James affect the team good or bad? How do they feel about their playoff chances?

BD: Its not good to lose a player like Lebron, that guy had the team on his back. Losing him isnt good for any team, ya know. About the playoff, it is REALLY early to talk about that, were just hoping to get the team in the spirit for a great season. Scott helps and motivates us alot.

SK : First game against the Pacers, do you have any strategies, who is the game leader?

BD: I am *chuckles* . In all serious, we dont have a leader, the main guy to play it through is Antawn, but after Lebrons leaving you got to think that this team is in ruins, but were okey right now.

SK : About the Pacers, their main guy is Danny Granger, who is a Small-Forward, how do you plan on holding him?

BD:We have to hope that Gee is going to step it up. We have some plans of stopping him, but I aint going to talk about that.

SK : Alrighty then , Good luck tonight !

BD: Thanks.
* Baron walks back to talk with the coach.*

Pacers @ Cavaliers

Postby Cruzerr on Fri Apr 15, 2011 10:41 pm

Danny Granger steals Barons spotlight in the win at Cleveland
by Josh Cruzer, NBA.com 4/15
Image
Grangers 32 and 7 rebounds was enough to come away with the W.

Image

The Cavs were coming into the season with losing Lebron and trading Mo for Baron. The Pacers had one plan- to hit them where it hurt the most, the small-forward spot. By the end on first Q, they had a double digit lead, 29-18. Behind Granger, the team had great play from Hibbert also, who hurt his leg at the start.
Sadly, Hibbert was not the only one to hurt himself, as Pacers pointguard Darren Collison hurt his arm. The medical coach Shawn Windle said `Hibbert has strained his leg, but is ready to come on to the court. About Darren, its possible that his hand might have been fractured, but it is too early to say.`

Image
Hibbert, who had 18 points and 9 rebounds, shot exactly 50%.

On the Cavaliers side, they had good production by their main man at the point guard spot, Baron Davis, who was hoping that he would start the season with a win.Baron had 21 points and both 3 steals and assists. When asked Byron Scott, what was the main reason for this defeat, he said : `We did not get good production out of our main men, Antawn and Gee were both cold, and the way Granger controlled Gee, its safe to say that some improvement for the small-forward spot is needed. Also, we got to start working our shot selections`

Fortunately, they had great contribution from J.J Hickson, who shot 19 points, 7 rebounds and was 80% from the field.`It was a great game for me, tough to see that we didn't bring home the win, but I am hoping for a better result next time around` said Hickson.

Image
Jamison cold=Hickson hot ?

Image
Seems like Barons awesome debut got canceled.

The Cavaliers are going against Atlanta their next match, while on the other end, Pacers are facing the Bulls.
Last but not least, the...
Image
Star and Flunk of the Night !

Star : Image Danny Granger : He had a dominating night. I know it is too early to talk about the playoffs, but if Granger can keep up this play, big things will happen to the Pacers

Flunk : Image Daniel Gibson : He shot 1-7 from the field, and was a total disappointment. I guess he is the main reason that Scott addressed the shot selection problem.

Recap of Week 1

Postby Cruzerr on Sat Apr 16, 2011 3:11 am

Alright, now that the first week is done, lets take notice of some of the bigger things, this week in the league :

Injuries : Its been an injure riddled start for the season. The biggest injuries this week is the broken arm of Darren Collison, the Pacers point guard is to miss 4-6 weeks of action. Also, Shaq is playing with an strained groin, what should be the reason of the low production in the last 2 games for Celtics.Damon James from the Nets is playing with a strained wrist and Jared Dudley is out of action for 1-2 weeks because of the strained achilles. Also, Bynum has sprained his fingers.

Trade Rumors and Signings : It has been said that the Kings Donte Greene is on the chopping block and the Kings have spoken with Pacers and Warriors, who seem really interested. Also, a lot of rumors around Luol Deng and the Mavericks, who have supposedly made an offer to the Bulls.

For the signings, Ricky Rubio signed a 1 year/5.76M contract with Portland, which is a good deal, considering the age of Rubio and Miller.
Marqus Blakely also signed a 1 year/467K contract with the Thunder, but considering he is a SF/PF who is the same age of Durant, I am missing the point of this contract.

Image
I am going to take my talents elsewhere.

Yes it is confirmed ! Terrance Williams wants out ! After the fight with head coach Rick Adelman, he was fed up with the team. Rockets have said, who gives the best offer, gets him. This is great news for teams who need a promising Small Forward ( ex. the Cavs)

Players to watch :

Image
Steve Nash-PG
He is on fire, dropping 31 points against Atlanta, you have to watch him.The Suns next game is against Phila. I guess we will see how Phila holds Nash

Image
Dirk Nowitzki-PF
After having 29 points and 10 rebounds in a brutal win over Kings ( 119-87), you got to give credit to the German superman. Dallas has a home game next against the Grizzles, which should be a fun game.

Image
Carmelo Anthony-SF
Although NY has lost 2 in a row, Melo put 35 points and 8 rebounds both games, giving him the East Player Of The Week

Image
Kevin Durant-SF
Durant had 28 points and 13 rebounds. He got the West Player Of The Week trophy and he has to thank Westbrook for it , who also had 20 points and 13 assists, most of them dishing to Durant.

Teams on a Roll/Fall

Image

You have to give credit where credit is due. the Grizzles have gone 3-0, in 3 consecutive games. Rudy and Mayo both have 17 points average, and Conleys 13.6 assists are a huge help to the team.

Image

Lakers are also 3-0 in their first week, which makes them tied in West. As their next game is against Memphis, it should be a interesting game for sure. Kobe has been stellar, having 27-32-25 points these last games. Kobe would be a player to watch, exept having 7 TPG, 7 !

Image

So, the Hawks have Jamal Crawford, Joe Johnson, All Horford and Josh Smith, but still are 0-3 this week ? Thats really low. But to consider that they went against the Suns (Nash 31p), Thunder (Duo of Durant-Westbrook) and Lakers (Kobe domination), they did have huge opponents.

Cavs @ Hawks.

Postby Cruzerr on Sat Apr 16, 2011 7:39 pm

Hawks finally get a win at the cost of the Cavs
by Josh Cruzer,NBA,4/16
Image
Josh Smith had 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks to get the win at home.

Image
The Cavs were coming off a loss against the Pacers, which didnt seem too bad, considering Hawks three straight losses. While Hawks had the weapons to get the win in a easy order, I must say, from the looks of things, it was a total Cavs domination.

The Cavaliers had a star night. Baron Davis had 20 points, 11 assists and 4 steals. They also got a strong contribution from Varejao, who had 11 points and 11 rebounds. But another career night was given from the 2 year man J.J Hickson, who had 24 points and 5 rebounds.` I must say, that J.J has come one of our main big men, who steps up at the right times. Too bad that his stellar play has not really shown up on the Wins/Losses list, ya know.`- said Alonzo Gee, who had a solid 10 points.

ImageImage
If Hickson keeps this up, the starting PF spot is not far away. Also Baron, it is safe to say that you are the main man.

On the other side, Hawks were pretty good also. They had solid contributions from players like Smith and Crawford. Crawford had also 28 on the night, including 6 rebounds and assists. A double-double was preformed by Hinrich, who had 10 points and 10 assists. When I saw Smith in the lounge, he said`We finally got a win, it feels great. I am hoping for more wins and for more of this great team play.` Johnson however was not to keen of this win `It is great to finally have a win, but to consider it was against the Cavs, we got to work on this team` Johnson had 20 points and 3 rebounds.

Image
Yeah boys, you did it, you can smile for now.

Also, on a serious side note, things dont look good for Anthony Parker, who injured his leg in the game while getting a rebound.`Things dont seem good, and to lose him so early in the season, it is never good.`

Image
The pain is never easy to see.

The Cavaliers will face Phoenix in their next game, while the Hawks have to test their might against the Hornets.

Now...,
Image
Star and Flunk of the Night !

Star : Image Josh Smith : This guy was on fire. The main reason with Crawford, why this team is not on a losing streak anymore.

Flunk : Image Zaza Pachulia: Wait, you get 18 minutes of play, and while everybody is on fire, you get 0-5 on the field and 1 rebound ? Zaza, you got to pick it up.

Terrence Williams Joins Cleveland

Terrance Williams joins Cleveland !
by Josh Cruzer,NBA 4/16

ImageImageImage

Yup, Its confirmed. Terrance Williams has joined the Cavaliers by the trade from Rockets. In return, Rockets will have Joey Graham, who has not played alot of minutes in Cleveland. `I am very happy that we have solved our Small-Forward problem, Williams is going to star the next game against the Suns in Phoenix. In my eyes, he is a consistent shooter, with a lot of talent to bring to the table` said Byron Scott.

On the other end, seems Rick Adelmen is also happy, considering the fight between Williams-Adelman. ` I am really grateful that a guy who wants to fight leaves this team, we dont need thesekinda players`

* Meanwhile, Byron Scott in his office*

* The Phone Rings* Byron Scott, how can I help you ?

Yeah, Its Graham, what the fuck happend coach ? I got traded and you didnt tell me anything !

Im sorry, but we needed a strong Small Forward. Terrence is just the kinda guy we need.

But I was doing good, you cant trade me like that ! Who the fuck do you think you are ?

Settle down, boy. I am Byron Scott, and if you must know, this trade was not my idea.

Whos was it then ?

Gilberts. He saw the problem we were facing and handled it.

Aww man, and Terrence is going to play the next game ?

Yes, and you are too, but not our next game. I suggest you start packing.

What the ..

Team-play gets the Cavs their first win in the season
by Josh Cruzer,NBA 4/16
Image
Despite Carters 31 points, Cleveland controlled the game.

Image
So, the Suns were exactly 500. before their game against Cleveland, who were in a 2 game losing streak. That being said, Cleveland had Parker with a sprained leg and a new SF, Terrence Williams, but still, they had a huge team effort.

Cavaliers had all the guys on the same page. Their main man, Baron had 20 points,8 assist and 4 steals. Everybody was contributing, Parker had 19 points and 9 rebounds, new player Williams had 18 points,Antawn Jamison scored 17, Hickson was with 14. The team was on fire.We had a little chat with Williams, who said `I am super happy to leave the Rockets and come to Cleveland. To have my debut with these guys and winning Suns, it is... I am speechless. Seems the team want me and my talents. All these guys did a great job and they deserve the victory`

Image
Varejao had 10 points and 11 rebounds, what is his second straight double-double.

Image
Yeah, we got it Parker. No sprained leg stops you. How about when you break it ?

Image
`Baron is going to lead this team, guaranteed`- Byron Scott

Phoenix on the other end did not look good. Considering that Vince had 31, 4 players ( Brooks, Lopez, Dowdell and Frye) had 10.`We were not up for Cleveland. We were just off. This was not our game.If I still have a 30 point game, I need to get the team involved`- commented Carter. Also, both Nash and Hill separated their shoulder, and they are going to be out 2-4 weeks.`Hill shoulder was better. As about Nash, he will miss at least 3 weeks`- said the medical coach Aaron Nelson. On a side note, Gortat had 6 points and 18 rebounds, which is his career record.

Image
`Well, I am happy about my rebounding, but if we dont win, its no use.`

The Cavaliers will face Washington, who are 0-4 right now. Phoenix however is going against the Hornets.

Now its time for....
Image
Star and Flunk of the Night !

Star- Image Baron Davis - 3 games in a row he has been with 20 points or more. Also his stealing and assisting are helping the team. Mostly his assists.

Williams game-winner gives the Wizards fifth straight loss
by Josh Cruzer,NBA 4/17

Image
Terrence Williams had a career high points : 32. Also was 6-8 from downtown.

Image

Wizards have not had a great start. They have lost 5 in a row now, and are dead last. Cleveland however, seems to be rebuilding strong. The game was intense.
Teams switched first place 7 times. It was Williams stellar play and J.J Hicksons fourth quarter that gave the Cavs this second straight at home. " It was amazing, I had a career high, it was my night. People looked at me when I was to take the final shot in the game. I felt the pressure and didn't let it effect me"- commented Terrence after his star night. A lot of credit needs to be give to Varejao also, who didnt have a double-double, but still managed to get 16 rebounds.

Image
Hickson had 21 points and was 3-3 from the FT line

You cannot say that Wizards were bad. They were better than their other games. Javale had a double-double, dropping 24 points and getting 14 rebounds. Also dominated the paint, sending 6 people " back home ". Young was also good with 22 points, although his sprained fingers didnt help the cause. " I can say pretty proudly, that this was our best game this season. We stood up and yes, lost it in the 4th. I wish Javale would do this every night, but even if he did, we still need more from our team." - said Flip Saunders in the press conference.

Image
Lewis did have 20 points , but was 2-11 from downtown. Maby the reason of the loss ?

Image
Hollins, you cant stop Mcgee, why you trying ?

The Wizards will face Dallas, which should be another loss. On the other side, Cleveland will face Golden State at home, which could make it 3 straight at home.

Now, before we hand it over to Reebok, I give you the Game Winning Buzzer. Enjoy !

Flunk : Image Daniel Gibson : Again 0-6 from the field, getting his only 2 points from the line. Pick it up, or I am sure you are going to get traded.

Recap of Week 2

Postby Cruzerr on Mon Apr 18, 2011 11:39 pm

Around The League Weekly !
Alright, now that the second week is done, lets take notice of some of the bigger things, this week in the league :

Injuries : It is well known that everybody in NBA struggle with injuries, but this week has not been good. C.J Miles is out for the season, as he has a Torn MCL. The doctors say that the injury is severe, and no playing is allowed this season and Off-Season. Also, Marcus Camby has broken his wrist in a freak accident while doing pushups and a lever fell on his hand. Pierce is also out for 3 weeks, considering he has separated his shoulder.

Trade Rumors and Signings : If you dont know, then Terrence Williams has been traded for Joey Graham. Williams has already had career nights but I will talk about that later. Their has not been a lot of rumors as the only thing is that Magic is willing to trade Jameer Nelson, to the first team with the best offer.

Players to watch :

Image Terrence Williams : He was traded to the Cavs. First game had 18 points which is still pretty good. Second game has a career high 32 and hits a buzzer for the win. Golden State, good luck holding him.

Image Derrick Rose : Rose is averaging 29 points and 9 assists. He and Boozer, who is averaging a double-double , are taking this team in places. Still, Bulls are only 2-1 right now.

Image Kevin Durant : Another West Player Of The Week award, as he stepped up in the game against Toronto with 30 points and 9 rebounds.

Image Deron Williams : Getting the East Player Of The Week, he dropped a staggering 37 points against the Mavs to get the win.

Teams in a Roll/Fall

Image Lakers are still 6-1 as they cruse in the top position in the West.

Image Pacers have the top spot in the East with 5-1, and with the great play from Granger who is averaging 22 points, you got to believe that they can keep it up.

Image Wizards have the worst record in the league , 0-5. As Wall is not playing like he should and the team is in ruins, you got to believe that this losing streak will continue.

Image Kings and Wizards are the only 2 teams with no wins , as Kings are in the West. If Tyreke is not playing like he did last year, they are not going to get a win any time soon.

Team is training in the Cleveland training facility

*Whistle blows*
Alright boys, hit the showers now, great training today. Gibson, come to my office when your done.

*30 minutes later*

Yeah coach you wanted to see me ?

Good, we need to talk. But first, lets go outside and take a scroll around the park.

* 5 minutes later*

Coach, I am in a hurry, what did you want to talk about ?

Listen, as you know, our team is full of great players. Our PG spot is tight right now, right ?

Yeah, sure. Baron is doing great !

Our Small Forward and Power Forward spots are also pretty tight.

Yeah, yeah.

Our Center spot is covered, but our Shooting Guard spot is not good.

Whys that coach ?

Well , I am going to be honest here, Parker will retire by the end of this season and the SG starting spot will be open. Now, Eyenga has done some solid work right now, but I am thinking of somebody else in that spot.

Wow, coach, I would love to..

Not you ! This is why I want to talk to you. There are a lot of young talented SG in the business, and if you dont pick up your play, you realise that you are out of here ?

Wow, did not know things were this bad.

Well they are, Gilbert is looking for a replacement right now. I am trying to convince him, that we should wait for the off-season, but he really wants a new player.

So who is he talking to ?

Well , you have some big competition. His been talking to Landry Fields and Wesley Johnson, both rookies with a lot of talent. Look , you are a good player, but you need to step it up, got it ?

I will try coach.

So go for now , I will see you tomorrow at the game.

Cya coach.
