August 29th, 2009

Joe Dumars has today been retrenched of his managerial position by the Detroit Pistons Owner, Karen Davidson. Davidson announced the removal of Dumars after a supposed heated argument between the two.

Davidson has stated that she is appointing an unknown man by the name of Andrés Estrada. Davidson told the various reporters at the press conference involving Estrada that he has been a part of the Pistons organization since he was a mere 15 years old. Beginning his tenure with the "Bad Boy" Pistons in 1986, he was known as "the kid who got drinks" to all the Pistons players.

At the age of 22 (1993), Estrada graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business and Finance and once again returned to the Pistons this time within their marketing sector. On his 27th (1998) birthday, the late William Davidson (former Pistons owner, husband of now widowed Karen Davidson) offered Estrada a job as his personal assistant whilst still maintaining his job with the Pistons, Estrada gladly accepted.

In 2005 at the age of 34, Estrada was appointed as assistant General Manager of the WNBA Detroit Shock. After the retrenchment of the general manager of the Detroit Shock, Estrada was promoted to the General Manager position of the WNBA title contenders. In 2006 (35), Estrada's Shock won the WNBA championship and this achievement was recognized by the Pistons organisation whom offered Estrada a position as assistant general manager of the Detroit Pistons.

Now, at the age of 38, Estrada has been called up to the general managing position of the Detroit Pistons, the team that he loved since his early teenage years. Andres Estrada has proven to gain a championship for Detroit once, but with a team that has been imploded and suffered defeat last season, we here at the Detroit Pistons hope that Andres Estrada can take us to glory once again.

Note: I'm only doing 29 games and 3-3-3-3 playoff settings because I find that I get bored with an 82 game season and this can be a fun way to play every game, if not, intervene in the 3rd/4th quarter.

First Quarter
Rodney Stuckey began the season in bad fashion, notching up 2 fouls in the first two minutes forcing Coach Kuester to sub in Ben Gordon and Will Bynum, rotating them and Richard Hamilton between the Point Guard and Shooting Guard spots. Courtney Lee got to a good start, hitting 10-10 free throws in the first quarter, from the fouls of Stuckey, Hamilton and Ben Wallace (Whom also had a second foul, however in the dying minutes of the quarter). Ben Wallace began the game fierce on defense showing why he was once, and possibly still best defensive player in the NBA. Wallace had 2 steals and 2 blocks within the first 5 minutes of the quarter. Hamilton too was on fire, hitting 3 And-1 shots, sinking the free throws as well. New Jersey however saw a terrible sight with their star player and starting point guard, Devin Harris falling victim to a hard foul by Ben Wallace. Devin Harris left the game to go to the locker room with back pains, he was not cleared to play the rest of the game. Detroit had a 22-17 lead going into the second quarter.

Second Quarter
Once again, due to foul trouble Rodney Stuckey sat out most of the second quarter, resulting in Ben Gordon scoring 15 (of his total 20 points) off the bench in the quarter. Once again, with Coach Kuester preaching tough defense, Ben Wallace too was in foul trouble. Courtney Lee slowed down in the second quarter for the Nets however Keyon Dooling stepped up his game, scoring 10 of his 25 in the second quarter. At the end of the half, the score was 41-35, in favour of Detroit.

Image

Third Quarter
Ben Wallace was completely in control the entire third quarter. Wallace was not only rejecting more shots, but he was also pulling them down and slamming them back home. Wallace scored 8 in the quarter, most notably a coast-to-coast finish which began with rejecting Courtney Lee in which Keyon Dooling picked up the loose ball and let off a shot which rimmed out, Wallace grabbed the rebound and sprinted down court only having to beat Josh Boone. Boone stepped back a bit which allowed Wallace, whom crossed the ball to his right hand to elevate and slam it down. Wallace was truly proving to be "back" as a Piston. Courtney Lee had a big quarter, scoring 10 points. The quarter ended with 65-58, again in Detroit's favour.

Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter began with Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince turning it up around the rim. The two along with Wallace proved to be dominant on the steals and rebounds this quarter. Courtney Lee and Keyon Dooling combined to score all 17 of the Nets fourth quarter points. The highlight of the quarter had to be in the dying seconds when Stuckey caught the ball at half court and lobbed to Villanueva whom connected with the alley-oop jam. The final score was 91-75 giving Detroit their first win of the season.

First Quarter
The quarter began smoothly with the yet again rough and rugged defense of Ben Wallace whom blocked 3 shots this quarter, most notably 2 rejections on rookie Blake Griffin in the same play. Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon also connected well this quarter through the phenomenal passing of Stuckey and the accurate and deadly shooting of Gordon. Blake Griffin seemed however to not be phased by the intimidating beast lurking in the key (Wallace) and continued playing his utmost best, scoring 10 in the quarter. Going into the 2nd quarter, the Detroit Pistons were up 26-19 at Staples Center.

Second Quarter
Much like the first quarter, the second quarter was another showing of the defensive prowl of Ben Wallace. Wallace notched up two steals to go with two more blocks on route to scoring 15 of his total 23 points. Eric Gordon was the man for the Clippers this quarter, completely slicing through the Pistons defense, scoring basket after basket of easy layups and dunks. Jonas Jerebko was efficient off the bench making both of his baskets, rebounding the ball once and getting an assist. The highlight of the quarter was a coast-to-coast jam by Jerebko whom rebounded at the defensive end, pushed the ball up court, dribbled the ball around his back to get loose of Travis Outlaw and then connect with the basket for a ferocious jam. The score at the end of the half was once again in Detroit's favour, 48-37.

Image

Third Quarter
This low scoring quarter yet again was another show of Ben Wallace's defensive abilities. Wallace notched up 5 blocks this quarter to get his total to 10 blocks, giving him an odd double-double. Blake Griffin scored 12 of the Clippers 14 points this quarter. Rodney Stuckey scored 8 points this quarter, 6-6 on free throws and a dunk on the fast break. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was 62-51.

Fourth Quarter
Despite Pistons Captain, Richard Hamilton's 3 steals, there was nothing more to say of his this game. Hamilton boosted up terrible shots this quarter, missing all 5 of his 6 attempts lowering his field goal percentage to 30% and also notching up 4 turnovers. Ben Gordon however took over the scoring load at shooting guard, helping the Pistons to a 26 point quarter. Ben Wallace was also fantastic under the rim, with rebounds and points. Chris Kaman was a beast on the offensive glass this quarter, with 4 offensive rebounds, most notably 3 of them within the same play off misses by Blake Griffin, Travis Outlaw and Baron Davis. Rodney Stuckey connected 4 assists this quarter, showing Detroit Pistons fans what is yet to come from their new starting point guard. At the final buzzer the game was over. The Pistons won the contest, 88-72.

Final Score

Yep, 10 blocks. Wallace has done it on two occasions in real life as well. Against the Heat and the Bucks in 2002. Wallace was just rejecting everything this game, it was really fun to play.

Yeah it's great, so far over 2 games he's averaging 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 7.5 blocks. Those seem like some DPOY numbers, I'm just hoping to keep it up and get his rebounds up as well. :)

Sadly that's over two games, so I don't know if I can keep it up. But with a 29 game season, it's possible. Let's hope :)

Rip Hamilton magazine spread should be up later today, maybe even game #3.
