Prologue

Postby Justine. on Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:38 am

Prologue

“So the other L.A. team is again the Champions eh? I wonder what is the difference among us, we’re on the same arena, maybe some fans too, we have great playe… uhh nevermind.” Clippers owner Donald Sterling said to himself.
“We need to find another GM, I’ve had enough of this old Dunleavy, he can’t even coach the team well and I’m wondering why I signed him as our GM. Sterling dranked coffee and sat on his soft chair while browsing the web. He arrived at a basketball news site where there’s a unfamous Filipino man who are coaching a highschool basketball. “Wow being undefeated for 2 straight years is incredible! The team’s coach is a genius.” Sterling still browsed the site and read info’s about the coach.

The Filipino native is just 19 years old and a player before his younger days, a MVP in their league but broke his legs in his last game. Sterling immediately dialed Mike Dunleavy’s number in his phone. “Hey old guy what’s up?” he teased the coach. “Same as old, I’m checking upcoming free agents next season, very talented stars coming in the market and we have lots of cap space I think, if we suck again this season maybe we can take a high pick, and I’m planning to.. “Shut up Mike, I’m sick of all your plans, it’s been a long years that your sucking my team, we can’t even go to the post-season! Your getting too much money from me by holding two positions of this franchise.” Sterling scolded. “And now your telling me that we will suck again this time?” Dunleavy was shocked. “What?? So now your firing me as a GM or coach? I’m telling you I bought some good players here few years ago!”
“Oh thanks for that Mike but I’m really want to be on the Playoffs tree again, at least you’ll still be coaching the team, I’ve found a man who I think can manage the team well, he’s a Filipino native. A way too young compared to you, veryy young.” Sterling laughed quietly. “Shit! Your bringing a Filipino here, signing him as our GM? What’s on your mind? Whatever your decision is, I’m not happy with it and there’s no fucking reason I will accept that man.”
“It’s final Mike, I’m sorry, just be on the press conference when I will announce the guy.” Dunleavy turned the phone down. Just after the talk with the coach Sterling immediately e-mailed the Filipino coach and smiled. “We’re back on business bitches, we will play it loud for this season.” Sterling still daydreaming.

At the Philippines….

“Whew! That’s been a tough game for us guys, you all played great tonight and a job well done, we will be keeping this ‘till the end we will remain undefeated.”
Being a 19 year old coach is hard for him, having just one leg literally is not keeping out from his dreams. Justine Crewhead played highschool basketball at the age of 14 and immediately owned a stardom, being a two-time MVP at his highschool career. But at his last game as a senior, he fell hard after his dunk and broke his legs. And didn’t play or return to basketball no more. After two years he returned to his school and volunteered to coach the basketball team even with no salaries. And now he’s coaching a team that’s been undefeated for two straight season and by reason this make him a really famous guy over the world.

Crewhead lied down to his bed and was about to sleep. He got up for a while and checked his mails. “Whoa! There’s been a lot of messages here.” He browsed randomly his mails and been mysteriously caught by this one particular message. “Donald Sterling?? Who is he? General Manager? Is this a prank or what?” Crewhead opened a browser and begin to searh Donald’s name. “Oh god! Owner?? Los Angeles Clippers? Shit, that’s an NBA franchise.” Justine’s eyes got big. “Is this really a prank? I’ll just reply to see if this is real.” Crewhead replied to Sterling’s message gave his digits, after a week. “Hello? Who’s this please? Crewhead asked after receiving a anonymous call. “This is Donald Sterling, I’ve made your bookings, ticket planes and reservations, by the day after the tomorrow, you’ll be going here in L.A. and meet me up in my office, you’ll gonna be our GM, no further talk, bye” Sterling utterly talked and shut the phone down.
“What the… He’s a crazy guy, he don’t even let me talk or ask questions.” After then he checked his mails again and by his surprised there really is a message that been sent to him informing he had his reservation ticket to L.A. “So this is really is it, NBA is my dream and now I will have the chance to manage a franchise. But what will happen in my team now that I’m leaving for the biggest league in the world?” Crewhead asked himself.

After a week..

“I’m representing you our new General Manager, Justine Crewhead.” Donald introduced him to the press. “We will be hoping that the Clippers will be on the post-season this year by the help of our young manager.” There are some murmurings around the conference room criticizing Justine. Mike Dunleavy didn’t attend the conference because there’s a news bloated he suffered loose bowel movement that day.
“I hope my brother is doing now a good job leading the team. Ahh.. I’m missing my players, well I’m here in the NBA, it’s official for now I’m the Clippers General Manager.” Justine smiled. “Let’s do this now.”

Player Evaluation

Postby Justine. on Sat Jul 24, 2010 12:40 pm

Image

"Ahh, nice office here. It's been a totally different feeling now I am a GM. Everyone expecting me to put this team on greatness somehow. But how can I?" the new general manager Justine Crewhead said while checking some papers. Crewhead's office was wide and have some nice sceneries of beaches, buildings form his windows, the atmosphere is quiet and the ambiance is cool. "First thing first, I haven't that too much about my guys, I grew up being a fan of the other L.A. team." Crewhead checked the team roster. "Okay, let's see.." The phone rang and he picked it up. "Hello Mr. Crewhead this is Donald Sterling. I've sent you a mail about infos, stats of our players that you've requested, check it out." Crewhead opened his account and read the players evaluation. "Okay sir, thanks for these, it's very big help for a new guy like me." Crewhead said. "No problem, see you soon."

Chris Kaman - averaged 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks for 52% shooting last season. This season Chris looks very promising, his ability to use both hands in shooting. Hook, jumper, anything, Kaman is capable of. His height is also a big presence under the paint and can play tight defense. Can give you 10+ rebounds per night. His back to basket playing style differs him to the other centers of the league. If he can remain healthy this season, Kaman will provide much offense as well as defense for the Clippers and a possibility to a All-Star nod.

DeAndre Jordan - going for his second season with the Clippers, Jordan averaged 4.3 points and 4.5 rebounds last year. And we can see he has room for improvement. Long, athletic and runs well. This guy has offensive tools and should be a big factor for the Clippers. His athleticism and quickness are stunning and he possesses athletic ability that recalls Dwight Howard and LaMarcus Aldridge. However, apart from his NBA ready size, he already has some NBA ready skills on the offensive and defensive end. Jordan can block shots too and have much patience regard to shooting. Let’s see if this man blooms.

Brian Skinner – the 12-year pro center Skinner will be playing behind Kaman and Jordan. He contributed 4.2 points along with 4.0 rebounds last season. We can see that this guy is old for now and declining, but still if he will be given a chance he can still post up players under the basket and sink some shots. I don’t see him giving 5 or more minutes to him, he poorly defend some big centers around the league because of his age.Image
Image
Image

Blake Griffin – the Clippers selected Griffin as the number 1 overall draft pick this year. His tenure with Oklahoma college basketball was very great. Incredible double-double stat, 22.7 points and 14.4 rebounds. Everyone is waiting for this kid to revitalize the Clippers. To Griffin’s credit, he does bring some excellent attributes to the table, and there’s little reason to think he won’t be a successful pro in time. If he can add that mid-range jumper to his repertoire, and continue developing the rest of his game, he compares pretty favorably to Carlos Boozer in terms of what he should be capable of doing on the floor. Adding that mid-range jumper is absolutely crucial for him to project into that kind of role, though. He mostly relies on spins and counter-spins down low, but he shows very good footwork and awareness, along with outstanding speed going from fakes into his counter-moves for a player his size, looking very fluid in the process as well. This ability to transition from move to move very quickly will be a huge asset as he adds more ripples to his post game, especially when combined with his strength, length, athleticism, and touch. Speaking of touch, Griffin’s ability to finish with both power and finesse is another aspect of his game that should help him at the next level.

Drew Gooden – Clippers will be Gooden’s sixth team and he averaged 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds for Chicago and San Antonio last season. He's still well under 30 and shows no signs of slowing down. Gooden's not the perfect big man (not a shot blocker or passer), but he's solid under the post. Can hit the midrange shots and post moves. The journeyman is a decent defender, somehow he hardly see open man around the court and sometimes ballhogging is his problem. Gooden will play behind the rookie Blake Griffin and looking to play some minutes too.

Craig Smith – third person for the Power Forward position is Craig Smith. Averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Physical aggressiveness helps him get to the line at a great rate. Surprisingly good ball handler for his size. Shows enough quickness to get an adequate angle to the rim to effectively use his strength to bowl his defender out of the way. Not a great shooter when he opts to get open shots from the outside, showing a flat release that yields average results. While on the defensive end, Smith gets in a good stance and does his best to stay in front, but is a bit too heavy capably defend some of the more perimeter oriented bigs in the NBA today. A little too aggressive when he closes out smaller players, often struggling in mismatches. Smith will likely gets some few minutes when needed.
Image
Image
Image

Travis Outlaw – Clippers starting small forward is a versatile player, Travis Outlaw. Averaged 12.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and shot almost 40% from the arc last season with Portland. A long athletic combo forward that took a while to come around after being drafted straight out of high school, but has become a very nice role playing scorer. Has tremendous size and a great wingspan for a small forward, but sees quite a few minutes at the 4 as well. Can shoot from the trifector well and capable of catch and shoot play. Has the length to block shots or intimidate the ballhandler but can easily fall to ball fakes. Outlaw will look to improve Clippers offense by his unmeasured talent.

Rasual Butler – Butler was traded to Clippers from Hornets and did a good job there. Averaged 11.2 point for the Hornets and shooting 42% from threepoint. Butler seems to be an underdog and will be the primary sixth man this season. He has evolved from a slasher-type to a well-rounded player. Can consistently hit the three-pointer. Takes care of the ball and is an underrated defender. Though Butler must improve his rebound skills because he have the physical tools.

Steve Novak – playing for his 4th NBA season, three-point specialist Steve Novak averaged 6.9 points, 41% from trifector last season with the Clippers. Novak is blessed with a long frame and a great eye and work ethic, he's one of the most accurate shooters on the planet (from both 3-point range and the charity stripe). A hustle-first player with a good attitude. Remember, he shot a buzzer-beater three a few seasons ago and this reminds he is deadly.
Image
Image
Image

Eric Gordon – sophomore Eric Gordon is bit a small for the two position, but he can bring on the tables. His rookie season has been great by his 16.1 points per game last season alongside with 2.3 assists. When he gets all the way to the rim, Gordon has been extremely effective. As a slasher, Gordon has a terrific first step, and a real nose for the basket, not showing any hesitance whatsoever taking the ball to the rim and finishing with a powerful dunk, often going right through contact in the process. His ball-handling skills are good, but not great--certainly improvable--but he regardless finds a way to the basket at an outstanding rate, drawing nearly eight free throw attempts per game in the process.

Mardy Collins – the two guard position is really the problem of Clippers by lack of backups for Gordon. Somehow scrub Collins will look to play some minutes. An oversized point guard who has not been able to carve out a role for himself in the NBA. Collins also is a turnover-prone. Dunleavy maybe will play Butler as a two more than a three guard because of a lacking skills of Collins. He will look like to be a bench warmer for the Clippers.
Image
Image
Image

Baron Davis – he lead the “We Believe” run for the playoffs of the Golden State Warriors last two seasons ago. The two-time All Star averaged 14.9 points, 7.7 assists, 1.7 steals last year. An incredibly strong and athletic point guard who can score and distribute very effectively. Plays as strong as he looks. Couples outstanding size with great explosiveness and speed. Changes speeds and directions as well as smaller guards. Handles the ball extremely well. Distributes, but also takes some very questionable shots. But easily commit fouls due to his aggressiveness. Davis will be on a retirement line maybe after two seasons but he can still be a great help this season.

Steve Blake – playing behind Davis is Steve Blake. The guard from Portland averaged 11.0 points and 5.0 assists last season and can be a big factor for the Clippers season. Blake offers most of his value as a passer and shooter, but brings some things to the table as a scorer as well. Gets about half of his touches in pick and roll situations with another quarter coming from spot up opportunities. Relies very heavily on his jump-shot for production and rarely gets to the basket or free throw line. Displays a smooth shooting stroke, but doesn’t get great elevation or have a high release point. Good defender especially when in half-court setting.

Bobby Brown – didn’t know much about this man, flaws are low percentage shooting, not a good rebounder despite of jumping ability. Brown will possible like to be a bench warmer but can hope some minutes if some injuries happens.

So here it is, just like anybody I'll be conducting a prediction game. The rules are very simple. I will post the Clippers schedule by month and you're just going to predict what matches will Clippers win or lose as well as predict the team record after the end of the month. This will give you 1 point each for a correct answer and 5 points if you predictd the team record correct. Also you'll be gaining two points by guessing the correct Clippers leaders in category of points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals at the end of the month and this will give you two per correct answers. All points will be summed up and will served as a skill points for your players in my draft.(join now!)Here's an example
