Idea: Custom Dynasty Sharing

Postby Andrew on Thu Mar 04, 2010 4:57 pm

I've been thinking about some ways we could increase the interest and fun here in the Dynasty Stories section and I'm pretty sure we've talked about something like this before at some point, but what does everyone think about creating some custom Dynasty games and sharing them?

Basically, the idea would be that someone would come up with a scenario for a Dynasty - a team to use, make certain roster changes and the like - and others would play it out. With the PC versions, it would be easy enough to distribute a save game file but for the consoles we could simply list the conditions and roster moves to make. The moves would have to satisfy the salary cap conditions and be accepted by the CPU when setting up the Dynasty, though in preparing a Dynasty on a console it would of course be easier to make the moves outside Dynasty Mode first (but only the pre-approved and listed moves).

Anyway, it's just an idea of something we could try out at some point, let me know what you think and whether there's any interest in it and perhaps we could set up some kind of request and sharing thread, for people looking to try something a little different. Obviously this is something that could be done for NBA 2K as well.

It's a good idea but if what about the updates? All of them can update?

I mean all players who play the dynasty can also post their updates in the thread? post their transactions? something like that

Presumably they'd start their own thread if they want to keep everyone updated on their progress or just use that Dynasty download/suggestion/scenario for their own personal use. There'd probably be some doubling up but I think that could be interesting too as we'd see how each person goes from there on; alternate realities at work, if you will.

Something close to a Shared Dynasty, this would be cool.
I'd like to team up with someone and play the same D.

That's something we could do too, share Dynasty games that we no longer want to play or team up to split the season between a couple of people. Could be fun. :)

Maybe we could set up a Dynasty challenge thread where people come up with challenges. People can then compete to see who gets the most points.
The points system would kind of be like in the Dynasty where you gain points for completing certain objectives.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Couple of examples:

Underdog Challenge

You take charge of one of the teams expected to finish near the bottom of their conference and see how far you can take them.

Teams
New York
New Jersey
Philadelphia
Washington

Golden State
LA Clippers
Minnesota
Sacramento

Points
Make playoffs - 1500 points
Win COY - 1500 points
Coach the MVP - 2000 points
Coach the ROY - 500 points
Beat LAL/BOS/CLE/ORL - 500 points
Win 50+ games - 2000 points
Win 40+ games - 1500 points
Win 30+ games - 1000 points
Win 20+ games - 500 points
Win <10 games - -500 points

---------------------------------------------------------------

Rebuild Challenge

You take charge of a team that has a lot of expiring contracts and release/trade players to rebuild the squad the way you want it.

Teams
New York
New Jersey
Washington

Points
Sign a player with 90+ overall rating - 2000 points
Sign a play with 85-89 overall rating - 1000 points
Sign a player with 80-84 overall rating - 500 points
Have 2 or more 85+ players on your team - 800 points

---------------------------------------------------------------

Stuff like that. Then you list all the challenges on the first post and have leaderboards for each so we can see who is doing the best.
One down side to this is that people can lie and claim to have done things that they actually haven't. But they're only cheating themselves.
And the biggest problem would probably be the fact that everyone would be using different rosters.

I like your idea, we can submit the save file to check the dynasty.

You can transfer the save file to a USB device, then put it into a .rar file and upload it to a file sharing site. (It's a couple of folders and about 4 files)
Then other people can download it and transfer it to their PS3 from a USB device.

From another thread:
Phil89 wrote:Just for something different, I thought I'd share my OKC game on here.

Season 3. Game 12.
Didn't make the play-offs 1st season. Won the Championship 2nd season. 10-1 so far 3rd season.

Starting 5
C: Andrew Bogut [80] - 12m - 3 years
PF: Kevin Durant [85] - 5.4m - 1 year
SF: Carmelo Anthony [91] - 16m - 1 year
SG: Kevin Martin [81] - 11.7m - 2 years
PG: Mo Williams [83] - 8.5m - 2 years

Main subs
Kendrick Perkins [75] - 10m - 4 years
Shannon Brown [70] - 5.9m - 1 year
James Harden [69] - 4m - 2 years

-17.3m cap room

http://www.filefront.com/15580635/OKC.rar/

Hopefully this will work. If you extract it onto a flash drive then transfer it to save game data on your ps3, it should work. I think :)

Unfortunately it won't work for Xbox 360 users. A digital camera could be used for proof, though.

I like the idea of Dynasty Challenges, though again I'd take it one step further and provide each other with full scenarios involving trades and custom rosters.

Andrew, Sir I would like to ask what is the birdie project? I see it a lot in the Hall of Fame, maybe we can used something like that so that the dynasty makers will be more dedicated in their work.

It was a system HonorGlow devised to rate and rank Dynasty Threads on their realism, for which he had devised a script. Using a formula similar/identical (can't remember if he tweaked it or not) to one Larry Bird devised back in the 80s, the system also graded each of our rosters' efficiency and determined our most efficient player.

We don't have access to the script HonorGlow used and he isn't around anymore. I'm afraid it's a bit beyond me to devise anything like that.

Another challenge we could make is a Dynasty with a fantasy draft. Presumably having your team get pick #30 to make it harder.
I played around with this before and there was some really good players available at #30.
(Nash, Pau Gasol, Bosh, Rashard Lewis, Boozer, Ray Allen, David West, Artest, Jameer Nelson, Mo Williams, Horford, Gay, Kevin Martin, Bogut, Gerald Wallace etc.)

For sure, Dynasty drafts aren't for everyone but it'd be good to have a range of different scenarios and challenges.

Another idea would be to fill a team full of created players (65-75 rating each maybe), and develop them into a good team.
And you can only add players from the draft or by trading for other generated players. No real players allowed.
By starting with lower rated created players there would be more chance of them not having a good season and you getting a high draft pick.

I was the 5th pick once in a Fantasy draft and got both Wade and Lebron. :D

It would be nice if something like the 'Birdie Project' would return. Dynasties were much more active and interesting.

How did you manage that? Surely they would both go top 5 in the first round? :o

I was really shocked, but it was actually Lebron who I got with the 35th pick. CPU is really dumb sometimes.

I agree, it was great. It's a shame HonorGlow isn't active anymore, he did some great stuff for Dynasty players.
