Thinking about getting a Dynasty going again

Postby Andrew on Thu Mar 04, 2010 2:59 pm

Since we're still a long way from NBA Live 11, I'm thinking of giving another Dynasty thread a shot and getting my fill of virtual basketball. I've got a few ideas as to what I'd like to do, but I'd be interested in getting some feedback on them as well as your suggestions.

Idea #1: One more shot for NBA Live 10

Despite my quibbles with the game, I'm thinking of giving it one more shot as there are some nice NBA Live 10 Dynasty threads going at the moment and I have to admit it's encouraging me to give it one more try. The lousy sim engine, lack of injuries and a handful of gameplay gripes are the main obstacle here, but if I'm enjoying the games then I could probably overlook some of the Dynasty short comings and enjoy playing a season anyway. So yeah, it's still on the table, I'm not sure who I'd play with; I'm feeling a little better about the Bulls these days so they're an option, but I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what you think.

Idea #2: 2009/2010 Season using NBA Live 06

A brand new NBA Live 06 Dynasty with the latest NBA Live PC Project rosters. NBA Live 06 has the benefit of being on the PC (a little easier to take screenshots than fiddling around with EASW, exported boxscores) as well as the All-Star Weekend and it's still one of my favourite games in the series. It may be the best of both words, a game I have fewer gripes with in terms of Dynasty Mode and the up to date rosters that NBA Live 10 provides.

Idea #3: The old NBA Live 06 Bulls Dynasty lives on

I still have my saved game from this Dynasty which was inducted into the Hall of Fame. I'm still working out what I could do with it but I was thinking of creating a new thread (just in case it ultimately doesn't go anywhere, the old thread can remain intact) and perhaps simming to the Playoffs, playing it through then starting fresh from opening night in the third season; I haven't decided yet. I'd be interested in any suggestions you have in that regard too.

So those are the ideas I'm looking at the moment to bring a little Dynasty Mode play back to my gaming. Ultimately I'll be going with the one I feel I'm going to enjoy the most but I'm certainly interested in any ideas you guys have as well as which one you'd most like to read about, if we can all get into it then I'm sure I'll enjoy playing it.

If you started one on Live 10 it would be with the Bulls right?

Personally, I can't play previous years games once I'm used to the new graphics and player movements/controls. Plus I like playing with up to date players/rosters.

I'd like to see you start a Live 10 Dynasty and see what you'd do with the team. Cap room after the first season would let you be able to reshape the team the way you wanted.

Another possibility I guess, but I'd say less likely at this point. I like what I've seen of Association but still not completely sold on the gameplay or 2K10's controls.

The Bulls would be one of my top choices but I wouldn't necessarily be using them, I'm open to suggestions in that regard. As for going back to old games you are right, it is kind of difficult because there's usually at least a couple of new additions that you miss in going back to the old games, but I find it's a little easier to go back to a game in the series that I really enjoyed the first time around...unless we're talking NBA Live 95/NBA Live 96, which I enjoyed immensely at the time and still can for the nostalgic value, but that'd be going too far back to enjoy on a regular basis. ;)

I reckon you should go with the a Live 10 dynasty. The gameplay and graphics make up for the lack of dynasty options, and from someone who owns both Live and 2k10 Live is better hands down.

Well, that's kind of the problem; post patch, I'm not enjoying the gameplay as much and I'm a huge geek when it comes to Dynasty Mode. But I'm certainly interested in giving NBA Live 10 another chance. (The lock-ups are another concern, though admittedly I haven't had any since I disabled the replay buffer).

Here's a few that I thought of:
Atlanta - Young team. Can challenge in the East. Joe Johnson's contract ends after season 1.
Chicago - Obvious choice. Build a team around Rose, Deng + Noah. Some expiring contracts. You could bring Wade home.
Clippers - Chance to take them out of Laker's shadow. Imagine 2nd season signing LeBron. That would make things interesting in LA.
Houston - Good starting 5. Yao can post up, Martin can shoot from perimeter. Scoring options. Yao's contract ends after season 1.
Memphis - Similar to OKC, good group of young players. Gay's contract ends after season 1.
New York - Chance to build a completely new squad depending on who is available. A lot of expiring contracts.
Portland - Oden, Aldridge + Roy as well as ~10m cap room. Aldridge's + Roy's contracts end after season 1.

You should try Chi-Town again, but sim out the first season and get yourself a nifty FA or two.

Yeah that's not a bad idea either. I'm also considering simming up until the current point of the NBA season as well, for something a little different and to forego those early weeks that often make or break interest in a Dynasty.

If Chandler's my goal, then I'll just go back to the 06 Bulls Dynasty. He's still on my roster. ;)

I like one of the Live 06 choices. I'd lean more towards going with 09-10 rather than the HoF one but I wouldn't complain either way.
Opinions are my own.

Choose the Bulls and use their expiring contracts to bring in Wade. That's what the real Bulls are doing anyway. (Still can't believe they gave Tyrus away so easily)

Your dynastys are good Andrew, and i'd like to see you do a new bulls dynasty with Alexander on the team, or a new york knicks dynasty and see what you do with all of their free agents and see if you can get Lebron or Dwayne Wade or somebody. Also, yeah live 06 would be good to, but in general i think that you should do a team with at 3 or more big free agents and see what you can do with them, if you resign them or not.

I really like your Bulls dynasties, so I'd say stick to the tradition there. Assuming you have all the patches and niceties (like cyberfaces for new players), I'd say go with NBA Live 06.

Clear the xbox360 cache and play a Live 10 dynasty. You can easily download updates for other games as needed.
