Week 2 Recap
Game 4 - Wizard unable to keep up good defense, Cavaliers win 108-99
With a starting line up boasting Terrence Williams, Thabo Sefolosha and Caron Butler, it was a nightmare for any perimeter player, even LeBron James. The Wizards perimeter defense held James to just 4 points at halftime but LeBron showed everyone why he was the best player in the league as he scored 21 points in the second half and led the Cavaliers to a victory. Newly acquired center Hasheem Thabeet was not at the game as he could not book a plane in time for Cleveland and joined the Wizards in their next game. In Chris Bosh's WIzard debut, he scored 20 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and recorded a career high 8 steals. Mike Miller came off the bench and scored 18 points. Terrence Williams who started at point guard totaled 8 points and 13 assists.
"It takes getting used to," said Head Coach Flip Saunders. "Defensively I don't think it's too much of a problem. I think Terrence did a great job tonight on Mo Williams and he wasn't as big as a liability on offense as I thought he would be."
And Terrence did a fine job. Mo Williams had 14 points on 5-14 shooting and added 4 turnovers, 3 of them forced by Terrence Williams.
Wizards Player of the Game - Chris Bosh - 20 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals
Game 5 - Wizards blow out Heat at home, 112-88
After having to match up with LeBron James, the WIzards got no break as they hosted the Miami Heat. Thabo Sefolosha and Terrence Williams both took turns in defending Dwyane Wade and Wade finished with 21 points on 10-23 shooting and did not attempt a single free throw.
"They did an excellent job. They didn't let me get into the paint and I think most of the shots that I made were either fast breaks or just really lucky shots," said Wade after the loss. Wade was 1 assist shy of a triple double.
Hasheem Thabeet started his first game for the Wizards and was impressive in his debut. He towered over Joel Anthony and scored 18 points, grabbed 6 rebounds had 3 assists and 2 steals, and although it didn't show on the stat sheet, Thabeet was a dominant defensive presence and was the biggest reason why Wade didn't get any free throw attempts.
Wizards Player of the Game - Hasheem Thabeet - 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists
Game 6 - Pacers @ Wizards
Strong 4th quarter propels Wizards to win, 93-85
In a game tied going into the 4th, the Wizards used a 8-0 run with 6 points from Rookie DeMar DeRozan and a jumpshot from Caron Butler to give the Wizards their biggest lead of the night. The rest of the 4th quarter was a shootout between Danny Granger and Caron Butler with the 2 players exchanging buckets over a 2 minute stretch but the Pacers could never get a stop that they needed as they lost to the Wizards on the road.
Wizards Player of the Game - Caron Butler - 31 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
