After a settling season in the rookie year of Marc Gasol and OJ Mayo, the Grizzlies add some size by drafting Hasheem Thabeet and trading for Zach Randolph, they hope to make some noise in the western conference with their enthusiastic team.

After being kind of dismissed by Andrew Bynum, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is leaving the Lakers and joining the Grizzlies, Head Coach Lionel Hollins said he's really glad to have an opportunity to work with Jabbar and expects that he can make his young big men team improve in their offensive game. When the Grizzlies drafted Thabeet earlier this year, their main concern was if he could be more than just a defensive presence and there's nothing better than having the NBA all-time leading scorer to help with that.

Hakeem Olajuwon will also be part of Memphis' coaching staff from now on, Olajuwon says he always wanted to give something back to the league by coaching young talents and now he's got a chance to be a key part to the improvement of the Grizzlies' plenty of young players. GM Chris Wallace told the media that Hakeem's main targets this season will be Marc Gasol and Hasheem Thabeet.

October 29th
Jazz, Grizzlies agree on deal.

Image

Paul Millsap is now headed to Memphis as the Jazz agree to send him there in exchange for Jamaal Tinsley and Hamed Haddadi, Coach Jerry Sloan said that Millsap wasn't happy in their bench and having Tinsley and Haddadi will help with their depth. The Grizzlies will keep Millsap in the bench at least in the beginning of the season, but Millsap hopes to get the starting job as Zach Randolph tends to be an unstable player.

With Mayo shut down, Gasol shines

Gasol hit a pullup jumper at the buzzer

Houston . . . 20 | 20 | 23 | 22 || 85
Memphis . . . 19 | 21 | 27 | 20 || 87

Shane Battier kept Mayo away from the hoops all night, so the Grizzlies changed their focus to Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol. Trevor Ariza and Rudy Gay battled all night, possession by possession they attacked each other ferociously. But with the game on the line in the fourth quarter, it was Marc Gasol who stole the spotlights, hitting 3 of 4 shots, scoring 6 points and grabbing 6 of his 10 rebounds in that quarter and beating the buzzer to defeat the Rockets.

Injury Report: Hasheem Thabeet left the game in the second quarter and has got a sprained toe which will keep him away from the courts for 4 weeks.

Key Performances

Trevor Ariza 24 points
Shane Battier 17 points, 7 steals
Aaron Brooks 26 points, 10 assists

Marc Gasol 20 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks
Rudy Gay 20 points, 2 blocks
Zach Randolph 8 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks
