Big deals before the season starts

2 Days before the season opener the Atlanta Hawks signed some contracts as they trade Marvin Williams and Mario West to the New Orleans Hornets. But before the trade they ladn free agent Gerald Green on a 1-year deal. The 2004 NBA number 2nd overall draft pick Emeka Okafor who was traded to the Hornets this summer in exchange of Tyson Chandler wont play even one game for his new team. The nigerian-american center is now traded to the Hawks.Hawks coach Mike Woodson said he's amazingly pleased with this trade and he's delighted to welcome Emeka to the club.

Projected Hawks starting five after the trade : Okafor - Horford - Smith - Johnson - Bibby

Nice trade for Okafor. Your team is going to be a defensive powerhouse! :)

I wish Josh Childress was still in the game though :(

Good luck with this

Johnson's 32 not enough for the Hawks

Image

117-102(click for boxscore)

Atlanta,GA

Even the Hawks won both 3rd and 4th quarters they couldnt escape with the win because of very poor 2nd one.The Pacers outscored them 43 to 21 in that second and the game looked like its over..and it was.The game was really good to watch - fast, dynamic with a lot of dunks and blocks.Pacers took control of the of first quarter with a 14-6 scoring run but Mike Woodson wanted a timeout and he talked to his players. The Hawks tied the game and take the lead 23 to 22 but a coast-to-coast lay-up made by TJ Ford gave the Pacers a 1 point lead after the first.
Then it came the moment for the Pacers who were playing amazingly great defense which led them to awesome offense.Earl Watson scored 16 of his 18 points in that quarter and the Pacers took it with the amazing 43 to 21.After the end of it an interviewer from NBATV wanted to talk with coach Woodson but he was so pissed of that he slamed the microphone. After the game he apologized for this and he said that this is only the start of the season but his guys havent got luck in the game.
In the second half the Pacers were very calm and they secure their win with some good defense again, the Hawks were forced to 24 second violation three times.Atlanta had their chances in the 4th when they little downed the lead to 6 points but a 6-0 scoring run from Danny Granger lift Indiana again.
The veteran Mike Bibby told the press that he apologizes for the game that they've played and most for the 2nd quarter. And he told the fans that they'll win in their next game and he promises that the Hawks will play on the conference finals which is a heavy promise.

Hawks with 2nd straight loss

Image

98 - 91

Atlanta,GA

First of all i know that picture looks a little like the one from the first recap but you'll read why...
The Wizards visited Atlanta in their second game of the season. Both of the team had suffer losses in the first games of the season and they both want to secure their first win of the campaign. The Hawks were really very good looking in the first one with Joe moving around the whole field and doing what a leader should do.With a defending machines like Emeka and J-Smoove the Hawks shouldnt have too much problems in the paint.Jamal Crawford ho was sleeping in the season opener felt like re-born and he scored 10 points in 4 minutes in the first quarter. The crowd was so loud that the players couldnt hear what the point guards were saying.Everyone was feeling that the Hawks will control the game and won.But..the Wizards started playing more dirty basketball, they were getting more agressive to the basket and they made a lot of fouls.Their leader Gilbert Arenas was on another planet,he didnt score in the first half. The 2nd and 3rd quarters were really too ugly, the result from them was 38 to 30.And after the 3rd the Hawks had the 1-point lead. The 4th quarter was basket-for-basket game.Washington was scoring,Hawks did it too,Johnson with three pointer,Miller with three pointer. After Bibby was hiding through out the entire game,he came in the last 50 seconds. He showed that he really is a great veteran point guard who still has the touch. He scored 5 of his 7 points in the last 50 and he grabbed up some really important rebounds. With 11.3 seconds left on the clock, tied, ball - Wizards,Caron Butler catches a inbound pass from Randy Foye and after two dribbles he stopped and shoot the ball..it was in.The clock was stopped at 6.1.The faces of the crowd were not looking good but after the 20 second timeout, the Hawks were inbounding and their superstar Joe Johnson had the ball.He made a nice fadeaway jumper(you can see it on the pic) to send the game to OT.
The overtime was like the 4th quarter,basket-for-basket.But the Wizards intercepted two passes from Josh Smith and they had the 5 point lead with 24 seconds left.Antawn Jamison scored the last shot which gave Wizards the first win for the season.
The NBA experts said that the Hawks are going to make it 3rd straight in their next game against the defending champion LA Lakers.
Other said that Mike Bibby is on the trading block.

Key Performers

Atlanta Hawks

Joe Johnson - 29 points,4 assists,1 rebound
Josh Smith - 17 points,7 rebounds,4 assists,2 blocks
Emeka Okafor - 12 points,5 rebounds,5 blocks

Washington Wizards

Caron Butler - 22 points,5 rebounds,4 assists
Brendan Haywood - 14 points,13 rebounds,3 blocks
Antawn Jamison - 21 points,7 rebounds,3 assists
