Note: In this association, I have tried my best to keep all players in the same teams that they are currently (Iverson to PHI, Hamilton to DET, BG and CV to DET, Okafor-Chandler swap, Watson to IND, Butler to LAC, Carter to NJ, Shaq to CLE, Crawford to ATL, Kidd to DAL, Nash to PHX, Wallace to DET, RJ to SAS, Foye and Miller to WAS, Bibby to ATL, S-Jax to CHA, Artest to LAL), even scrubs like Ime Udoka, during the Signing of Free Agents part of the offseason, where many teams had plenty of capspace and roster space to play around. Big names that went to other teams are here. Only refer to offseason months of July to October on the NBA.com transactions.

Extra transactions:

Sasha Pavlovic heads to Portland with a 1-year deal
Atlanta Hawks waive center Patrick O'Bryant
Raptors send Marion to Washington for Butler in sign-and-trade agreement
Magic acquire Carter; Raptors net Lewis and rookie Casspi in 3-team swap with Nets
House signs with Wizards for the mid-level exception
Boozer opts out of Utah to join Blazers with 5-year $83 million deal
Millsap heads to Phoenix, following a 5-year $50 million agreement

Man... you're ripping them off, badly... the old trade that you included Bargnani was fair...

Mar 6 Claimed Pops Mensah Bonsu off the waivers (placed by Spurs)
Apr 13 Placed Quincy Douby on waivers. The Raptors did not renew Quincy Douby's 10-day contract for the remainder of the season.

Offseason summary: Seeking to improve its rebounding and interior defence, Toronto traded T. J. Ford, Rasho Nesterovič, Maceo Baston, and the draft rights to Roy Hibbert to the Indiana Pacers in return for six-time NBA All-Star Jermaine O'Neal and the draft rights to Nathan Jawai. With Ford gone, virtually all the point guard responsibilities rested on José Calderón's shoulders, who re-signed to a multi-year contract. The Raptors then signed free agents Hassan Adams, Will Solomon and Jamal Sampson, but Sampson was waived at the end of the pre-season. The Raptors also signed Roko Ukić who was drafted in the 2005 NBA Draft, and lost Carlos Delfino and Primož Brezec to free agency. O'Neal's arrival, however, was dwarved by the Elton Brand signing pulled off by division rivals Philadelphia. In a pre-season poll, more than half of the general managers predicted the acquisition of Brand to be the most significant one in the league, whereas the 30 year-old O'Neal was perceived to be past his prime. Nevertheless, the prospect of Toronto deploying two proven big men at the post with some of the league's best three-point shooters waiting at the perimeter signalled a change in game plan from the previous campaign.

Season Summary: The Raptors started their 08-09 season campaign strong, with a 13-9 record in the first week of December thanks to a 93-89 road win against the Celtics, a 107-90 home win against the Celtics, and a 123-120 road win against the Lakers. Chris Bosh went down with a broken ankle in the middle of December and this forced him to miss 8 weeks and would also put him out of the race to the all-star weekend. The Raptors held their ground, and made trades to make up for this loss. On the 15th of December, the Raptors sent G Roko Ukic from Croatia to the Golden State Warriors for Italian guard Marco Belinelli. He was expected to team up with national teammate C Andrea Bargnani but the Raptors got tired of Bargnani's lack of development and sent him to the Portland Trail Blazers for F Nicolas Batum, which they acquired in a trade with the Houston Rockets on the same day. He was also elated to bring scoring which the Raptors lacked as they lost Bosh. Bosh returned on the lineup on the 6th of February with a 18 point-6 rebound performance in 26 minutes as the Raptors lost to the Hornets, 114-88. Bosh came back strong the next game finishing with 33 points and 8 rebounds as he helped the Raptors blowout the Memphis Grizzlies in Memphis, 111-94. The all-star weekend came, and no Raptors was invited to participate, which angered the fans and motivated the Raptors as they finished the season strong with a 49-33 W-L record, the second best in the Eastern Conference behind the Boston Celtics, and second in the Atlantic Division. Before finishing the season, the Raptors made several trades on the week of the deadline, the major one which sent Shawn Marion, Marcus Banks and James Jones to the Raptors for Jermaine O'neal, Joey Graham and Kris Humphries. Still, no Raptor would make an All-NBA team, not even Bosh, except for rookie Nicolas Batum, who made the All-Rookie 2nd Team. Another notable was Jose Calderon, who saw his jaw-dropping assist numbers and turnover ratios drop with his percentages, bothered by a wonky hamstring from playing for Spain the summer before.

Post-season Summary: The Raptors made the playoffs third year in the running, 6th time in franchise history.
Playoffs first round - Orlando Magic
Game 1: ORL 103 TOR 107 - Marco Bellinelli single-handedly carried the Raptors with 35 points on 3-6 shooting from long range past the Magic on Game 1 on a comeback win. Jose Calderon scored a fastbreak layup plus foul over Jameer Nelson with 40 seconds left to give the Raptors a 105-103 lead, later he would make the bonus free throw. Nicolas Batum sealed the game with another free throw from a miss by Hedo Turkoglu on the other end.

Game 2: ORL 112 TOR 106 - The Magic knotted the series to 1-1 with a road win over the Raptors. Dwight Howard's 28 point-13 rebound performance was too much for the Raptors, as they relied on Jose Calderon who had 20 points and 7 assists.

Game 3: TOR 126 ORL 93 - In the Raptors' first postseason trip to Orlando, they blowout the Magic as Chris Bosh led the charge with 32 points but only added 4 boards.

Game 4: TOR 99 ORL 98 - The Magic led as much as 14 in the second quarter by 57-43 until a 10-0 run got the raptors closer 57-53. The Raptors got their first lead in the third quarter, 66-64, with a Anthony parker three pointer and the Raptors took over from then on. Jose Calderon led the raptors with 16 points and 7 assists, 2-3 from long range.

Game 5: ORL 98 TOR 100 - THe Magic outscored the raptors early in the first 9-0 but the Raptors made up for it with a stellar third quarter, starting 8-0 thanks to Chris Bosh. They grabbed their first lead midway in the third from a Nicolas Batum layup 62-61 but the Magic got back in the game with a 3-point play from Dwight Howard in the fourth, enjoying a fourth point 90-86 lead until a Nicolas Batum 3-pointer and a Marco Belinelli floater put the Raptors back up. Jameer Nelson's layup with 30 seconds left was blocked by Chris Bosh but Dwight Howard picked it for a short hook that cut the Raptors lead 97-95. Chris Bosh was forced to take the inbounds pass but down the half court line he was triple teamed by the Magic. Fortunately he found a streaking Calderon for an easy layup and on the next Magic ball Bosh blocked Dwight Howard's layup that finally put the game away for good. Bosh finished with 23 points 10 boards, 2 dimes, 2 steals and 3 blocks on 11-19 shooting from the field.

TOR wins series 4-1

Playoff second round - Cleveland Cavaliers
Game 1: CLE 116 TOR 125 - The Cavaliers started strong outscoring the Raptors 30-23 in the first quarter but as soon as Lebron sat down, they break down. THe Raptors, with Moon, Parker and Navarro, started a chuckfest which went good as a Moon three-pointer tied the game at 52. Moon would make another three pointer to give the Raptors a 82-75 lead. But the Cavaliers made their way back, with the Raptors leading 107-100, the Cavaliers went into a 9-0 run to give themselves a precarious 2 point lead. Shawn Marion made 2 free throws for Toronto to send the game to OT after getting fouled on the drive. The Raptors wasted no opportunity as they started the extra period with a 10-0 run, and the Cavaliers would never come back.

Player Reports:
Image
Jose Calderon
Season Averages: 14.9 PPG 6.4 APG 1.0 SPG 2.2 TOPG .502 FG .442 3PT .933 FT
Outlook:The low-mistake, high perecentage point guard of Toronto is starting to show age after a stellar 2007-08 campaign. Next season, he will still be the starting point guard and expect the numbers to improve as he is 100% injury-free. I think we can safely say his free throw percentage will drop a few points, but otherwise Calderon could be poised for a career season.

Image
Anthony Parker
Season Averages: 10.7 PPG 3.3 RPG 2.6 APG 1.2 SPG 1.2 TOPG .447 FG .451 3PT .714 FT
Outlook: Parker was handling the ball a bit more at the point, and is also pulling off a JR Smith. We'll never understand how a guy so deadly from long range can be such a sorry free-throw shooter. League powerhouses like San Antonio, Cleveland, and Boston have expressed interest on the veteran.

Image
Jamario Moon
Season Averages: 5.7 PPG 3.1 RPG 1.5 APG 0.8 SPG 1.0 BPG .482 FG .348 3PT .744 FT
Outlook: Moon is the type of player whose real-life value often goes beyond the box score, as evidenced by his two-season run trailing only Chris Bosh in on-court/off-court plus/minus for the Raptors. A huge drop on Moon's numbers can be attributed on the contributions of Shawn Marion late in the season. Moon lost the starting gig and lost a lot of playing time, but despite that, the Raptors have still expressed interest on resigning the athletic journeyman.

Image
Shawn Marion
Season Averages: 13.4 PPG 7.5 RPG 2.4 APG 1.3 SPG 1.4 BPG .464 FG .296 3PT .765 FT
Outlook: Marion is one of the most difficult players to gauge entering this season, as he finds himself at a career crossroads. Two seasons ago Marion was one of the surest bets in roto basketball while playing alongside Steve Nash. Now Marion's weaknesses are exposed due to the change in the team play style.

Image
Chris Bosh
Season Averages: 22.4 PPG 8.6 RPG 2.6 APG 0.8 SPG 1.1 BPG .501 FG .365 3PT .784 FT
Outlook: Toronto's prized forward is still unsettled with his future and has plans of leaving next year, but the recent success of the Raptors franchise could possibly keep him in T-dot. Nevertheless, expect this season to be his best, as he plays for a max contract next year.

Image
Marco Belinelli
Season Averages: 10.0 PPG 1.0 RPG 3.0 APG 0.4 SPG .488 FG .425 3PT .661 FT
Outlook: The Italian sharpshooter had a breakout year splitting his last season between the Warriors and the Raptors. With the Raptors, he fared well, and finished the league with decent averages and third in voting for Most Improved Player. With the acquisitions of swingmen Daniel Green, DeMar DeRozan and Caron Butler, the Raptors look to a season with a jam at the 2 and 3 positions.

Image
Juan Carlos Navarro
Season Averages: 11.2 PPG 2.5 RPG 2.6 APG 0.5 SPG .448 FG .395 3PT .798 FT
Outlook: Navarro was again a lethal offensive weapon that sprung to action any time the Raptors needed him. Nevertheless, the biggest news came on the defensive end, where Juan Carlos emerged as a very reliable defender. This is a department where Navarro is steadily improving. Navarro wants to play in the NBA next season.

Image
Nicolas Batum
Season Averages: 6.1 PPG 2.9 RPG 1.2 APG 0.6 SPG 0.2 BPG .428 FG .379 3PT .768 FT
Outlook: The 20-year-old Frenchman was a surprise starter for the Raptors last year. While he only played 18 minutes per game, Batum provided the starting unit with solid defensive play and the ability to hit crucial shots on the end of games.

Image
David Andersen
Season Averages: 7.1 PPG 3.6 RPG 0.5 SPG 0.6 BPG .487 FG .336 3PT .735 FT
Outlook: It's hard to say what to expect from Andersen who was originally drafted in 2002 and has only played for less than a quarter of a season. He could potentially see significant minutes at center, perhaps even start, with the Raptors short on the 5.

Image
Pops Mensah Bonsu
Season Averages: 7.1 PPG 3.6 RPG 0.5 SPG 0.6 BPG .487 FG .336 3PT .735 FT
Outlook: Emerging as a fan favourite with the Raptors late in the season after a spurt in playing time, Mensah Bonsu still lacks the fundamentals of an average NBA player. Don't be fooled by the rim-rattling wide open dunks, he is extremely untalented and should be only depended for rebounds, steals and blocks. Everything else is gravy.

Image
Marcus Banks
Season Averages: 4.2 PPG 1.5 APG .468 FG .422 3PT .728 FT
Outlook: Any of that untapped potential from Banks five years ago is all gone now. If the Raptors had a point guard disease, Banks would probably still be on the bench, picking splinters. Banks' ugly contract keeps him in a uniform, but he doesn't seem likely to crack the Raptors' guard rotation.

Image
James White
Season Averages: 2.6 PPG .500 FG .333 FT
Outlook: James White is an interesting developing story, as his all-around game and athleticism is certainly worthy of a call-up to the big leagues this season. His attitude problems are going to need to be investigated by NBA teams before they call him up, as teams are hesitant to add role players mid-season that might bring drama or baggage.

Image
Vladimir Radmanovic
Season Averages: 5.0 PPG 2.0 RPG 1.0 APG 0.4 SPG .481 FG .461 3PT .738 FT
Outlook: Radmanovic will come off the bench at either forward position when the Raptors need a shooting jolt from the outside. He is a good -- not great -- outside shooter, capable of putting up 20 points in 20 minutes. Add to that, he can also grab some rebounds and his ball-handling is worthy of being given the rock to perform when needed.

Image
James Jones
Season Averages: 4.2 PPG 0.8 RPG .553 FG .580 3PT
Outlook: Looking at the construction of the Raptors' starting lineup, someone like Jones, who can stretch defenses, could be a nice fit at small forward.

I don't get it. Do you want to trade Barg or not? Still I think the Raptors team without any trades, just the current roster, is very interesting to play with. Sure, you're lacking of some bangers, but Bosh is a beast in the game. You give him the rock and let him work. When they start to double him, the Raptors have the best kick out options of the game imho. Calderon, Belinelli, Turkoglu, Bargnani ... you can shoot the lights out with them if they're open.
I hope this one gets further than the last because I really like your Dynasties and the Raptors are so interesting.

Pre-draft Workouts (Raptors only):

Image

The Raptors scheduled 5 days of pre-draft workouts with around 15 draft prospects. The workouts began on Sunday, June 12 and ran until Thursday, June 16. On the first day of the pre-draft workouts, the Raptors brought in USC swingman DeMar DeRozan and North Carolina alum Danny Green. With the Raptors set at 29th pick in the first round, there is a snowball's chance in hell DeRozan drops this low. But Bryan Colangelo will work something out to get the highly-recruited swingman to Toronto. Meanwhile, drafting Green is a possibility, considering scouts ranked him somewhere between really, really late first round to second round.

So how did they look? Green looks like Anthony Parker, doing a little bit of everything. He gives a lot of effort on the defensive end and could be a lockdown defender in the near future, although he isn't a real rebounder. He also has a 3-point shot, and looked deadly when, on the 2-2 matchup with Bosh and Calderon, he was left open. This is the second year that Green has worked out for the Raptors.

DeRozan, meanwhile, looked spectacular. He was scoring, rebounding, also showing his range although his jumper needs a little bit of work. It looks dirty and he kicks out a bit. Other than that, his dunking ability really amazed a lot of team staff in the workouts.

Image

The next day, 10 prospects were brought in for a 5-5 matchup. The Raptors brought in Jeff Pendergraph from Arizona State, Jonny Flynn from Syracuse, Jodie Meeks from Kentucky, Hasheem Thabeet from UConn, James Harden from Arizona State, James Johnson from Wake Forest, Steph Curry from Davidson, Chase Budinger from Arizona, and DeJuan Blair from Pittsburgh. Thabeet's height and length stood out as the Tanzanian was swatting shots from everywhere. James Harden was easily the best all-around player showing off a variety of ways to score, while James Johnson was a close second. Jodie Meeks' shooting form looks fundamentally good, and he was knocking down jumpers especially coming off from screens. Another swingman that stood out is Chase Budinger, who could be this year's sleeper. Niagara Falls' native Jonny Flynn was excellent at running the point, but couldn't buy a bucket for most of the day.

On Tuesday, the Raptors brought in Jrue Holiday for a shootaround. Holiday has the physical tools. He seems to have a nice emotional and intellectual demeanor. Holiday says that he tries to model his game after Chauncey Billups and Deron Williams. His major problem is those weak freshman year stats he’s carrying around with him. 8.5 points per game . Everyone understands, however, that his freshman year was not optimal for showcasing his true skills because he played the 2 spot, instead of his natural position, next to senior point guard Nick Collison. The positive from the experience was that Jrue learned to deal with adversity and spent a lot of time playing off the ball which is not a bad skill to develop. He clearly needs to learn to shoot better, but he can hit from anywhere on the floor. He has a nice pull-up jumper. He can drive to the hoop with strength and absorb the contact. He certainly needs to improve on his woeful shooting (he knows that) from the arc and 72.6% from the free throw line for someone who can create a shot on the drive does not get one excited. He also admits a need to work on his ballhandling. I did not see a problem there and he only averaged 2.0 TOs in 27 minutes per game, so I think he should be fine there. What gets you excited though is his defensive ability and overall tenacity. This guy plays both sides of the ball with intensity.

Wednesday had the Raptors bringing in Tyreke Evans from Memphis and Earl Clark from Louisville. Evans went through a roughly hour-long workout conducted by assistant Jay Triano that focused on ball-handling and shooting drills. It's become habit for top prospects to decline competitive workouts, and you can see how this might benefit someone like Stephen Curry, who can wow on-lookers with a solo shooting display. But I think Evans is a prospect that is hurt by a lack of competition. The workout format amplified Evans' negatives — his inconsistent slingshot jumper and his erratic ball-handling — but didn't showcase his attributes — the ability to slash past (or through) defenders to finish at the rim or use his strength and wingspan to deny penetration.

In addition, yesterday represented the first time Alvin Williams officially began his assistant coaching duties with the club, and both he, and Jay Triano spoke with the media post-workout.

Image

In terms of the workout itself, who impressed most? Earl Clark was probably the most heralded of the forwards coming into the workout and he did indeed stand out. He showed well when he went through the team drills, no doubt a byproduct of his preparation under Rick Pitino. Clark displayed his prowess as a help defender often aiding off the weak side leading to transition chances. He was rebounding well above the rim, and was either leading the break with an outlet pass or finishing the break with a strong move the hole. He also showed well in the individual defense drills stopping both the guards and forwards alike. His length was definitely an asset, and he knows how to use it well on the defensive end.

The final day of the workouts included a one-on-one play between Spanish national teammates Jose Calderon of the Raptors and Ricky Rubio. Rubio was clearly outplayed, as his lack of athleticism was clearly exposed on a solo format. He wasn't effective on his own as one of his strengths is team play.

TOR | NU.Time | Offseason Summary

Postby john26 on Sat Jan 02, 2010 12:00 am

Player Transactions:
The Toronto Raptors had 3 picks in the recent draft, the extra second round pick was acquired in the trade deadline from the Rockets alongside James White for Nathan Jawai. The Raptors selected Danny Green from North Carolina with their 29th pick, while they chose Patrick Mills and Sam Young with the #52 and #59 picks respectively. The two second round picks were immediately traded to the New York Knicks alongside a future second round pick in exchange for the draft rights to the 16th pick, DeMar DeRozan on draft-day.

After the successful signing of rookies DeRozan and Green, the Raptors executed a sign-and-trade deal that sent Raptors' free agent Shawn Marion and a future first round pick in 2011 to the Washington Wizards for Caron Butler. Although Marion was 'Satisfied' with the organization, the Raptors still chose to renounce him on July 1.

The final deal for the Raptors was a complicated three-team deal with the Magic and the Nets. The Magic sent Rashard Lewis to the Raptors, Rafer Alston and Courtney Lee to the Nets, while they received Vince Carter, Ryan Anderson and James Jones. The Raptors sent Vladimir Radmanovic and James Jones and received Rashard Lewis and the draft rights to Omri Casspi. The Nets acquired Vladimir Radmanovic, Rafer Alston and Courtney Lee, in exchange for Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson, and the rights to Omri Casspi.

Staff Signing:
The Toronto Raptors extended the contract of their head coach Sam Mitchell, affectionately known to the team as "Smitch", for another year. Mitchell will be earning around $1.63 million for the 2009-2010 season.

On June 5, 2009, the Raptors announced the hiring of Jay Triano and Alex English as assistant coaches. On July 1, 2009, the Raptors announced the addition of Eric Hughes, Alvin Williams, and Francesco Cuzzolin as assistant coaches.

Raptors rusty on season opener; Bobcats take advantage to get W

Recap | Box Score | Shot Chart | Team Stats

Without wasting an opportunity, the Charlotte Bobcats ruined the Toronto Raptors' season opener for their 15th year anniversary in the league with a late fourth-quarter spurt. The Raptors were outscored 33-17 in the final quarter as the Bobcats opened their 2009-10 season with a 106-94 win. The recent acquisitions, Rashard Lewis and Caron Butler, struggled in their Raptors debut. Butler, who finished with 12 points, shot 5-11 from the field, while Lewis had an off night with 9 points, missing all of his 6 three-pointers.

After holding to a tight lead in the first three quarters, the Raptors started breaking down in the fourth as they played their tired starters. "You can't say we were worse as last year after this loss. One game can't sum up what will happen in the next 81 games. We are still finding our flow, with new players in the mix. We just need to TAKE MO SHATS!" said head coach Sam Mitchell. Mitchell started the 2-year guard from Italy on shooting guard with the Raptors losing Anthony Parker to the Bulls.

The Raptors got a great lift off the bench from forward Nicolas Batum, with 13 points on 5-7 shooting also making all of his 2 shots from downtown. Meanwhile, the Bobcats were coasting in the first three quarters, and woke up in the final one after head coach Larry Brown got tired of the seemingly-stagnant defense that relied heavily on Gerald Wallace. New center Tyson Chandler, who was acquired from the Hornets in the offseason for Emeka Okafor, got more involved down the stretch and finished with an excellent debut of 14 points and 10 boards, making all his 7 shots from the field. Th Raptors were leading 75-73, when Marco Belinelli's fade-away 15-footer swished through the net. But the Bobcats answered with a 9-2 run to lead 82-79 with 8 minutes remaining. The Raptors' last lead was 85-84, and the Bobcats pulled away from then on.

Very balanced scoring by both teams. You should try to get more out of CB4. Good luck next game.

SAMUEL L JACKSON BECOMES PART OWNER OF RAPTORS
Oct 27, 2009 12:14 PM EST

Image

After dominating the filming industry in the past decade, Samuel L Jackson is about to move into pro sports.

The actor is on the verge of purchasing part ownership of the NBA's Toronto Raptors, currently fully owned by the Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment.

"We are happy to include Samuel on this team. He will be a vital part of our franchise," said MLSE chairman Larry Tanenbaum. Jackson is by no means the first entertainer to invest some major paper into pro ball. In July 2004, Nelly partnered up with the ownership group Bobcats Basketball Holdings LLC, which owns the Charlotte Bobcats, the first minority-owned NBA expansion team. Jay-Z realized his own hoop dreams when an investment group he is in bought the New Jersey Nets for an estimated $300 million late 2005 summer. Usher, whose group bought with a reported total purchase price of $375 million, is a part owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise. He became the third pop artist to own a large stake in an NBA team.

TOR | NU.Time | Blog: A Target on My Back

Postby john26 on Tue Jan 05, 2010 9:19 am

The Inside of My Mind - A Story of a Raptors GM

PART 1: A TARGET ON MY BACK
27 October 2009, 3:11 pm

BC was sitting behind his office desk, on his computer watching the video of two girls and one cup with a big smile on his face when a knock on the door forced his hand to press the sleep button. "Come in," said BC. It was one of his top men at the door, Wayne, giving him the news about the visitors in the office.

"Party on, Wayne," BC greeted Wayne.

"Party on, BC," responded Wayne. "The chairman of the MLSE is waiting outside for you, sir. He's got a Samuel L. Jackson with him," Wayne told his superior.

"Ok, I am on my way," responded BC. Outside...

BC: Hello Gentlemen, what can I do for you?
MLSE Chairman: Good morning, Bryan. I'd like you to meet Academy Award-nominated American film and television actor, Toronto Raptors fan, and keen golfer, Samuel L Jackson.
BC: Hey there (shakes his hand). So, what can I do for you?
SLJ: (giggles like a man)
MLSE Chairman: Well Mr Jackson here is going to be your superior. He is going to be part owner of the Raptors.
SLJ: That's right.
BC: (Ohhh Shit! It's...like a target on my back) Well I am very happy for you. (BC puts on a big, fake smile on his face that he used to don when sportswriters were criticizing him for screwing up Toronto's 2006 1st pick by drafting Bustnani). We, here at the front office, are very happy to include you to our team.(But I've been always good to my superiors so that shouldn't be much of a problem. The key is to simply think of them as aliens from a distant universe. "You have fibers and threads unknown to us. Your ancient customs intrigue me." )
SLJ: Thank you very much. I appreciate that.

As every second passed that hour that BC was welcoming Samuel L Jackson, he felt the complete opposite of butterflies. He felt genuinely ill; not because of the two girls one cup video he just watched, as many have complained, but because Totenbaum and Jackson were taking him to a dark place and immersing him in it, in a metaphorical sense of course.

Gallo's last-second 3 lifts Knicks in tight game over Raptors

Recap | Box Score | Shot Chart | Team Stats

Danilo Gallinari had a game he'd never forget as he lifted the New York Knicks past the Toronto Raptors, 116-114 in the Madison Square Garden. Gallinari, nicknamed Gallo, hoisted a last-second 30-footer from the right side that went in and sent the Raptors, last year's Eastern Conference champions, to their second straight loss this season in two games.

Before that, Jose Calderon made a 3-pointer right in the face of Nate Robinson that put the Raptors up 114-113 with 2.7 seconds left for the first time in the entire fourth quarter and the first time in more than 27 minutes.

The final play didn't come out without any controversy as the referees did not review the replay and awarded the basket immediately. Italian sharpshooter Marco Belinelli led the Raptors with 24 points. He started the game at the shooting guard position for the Raptors, while Nicolas Batum replaced Rashard Lewis at small forward. Chris Bosh added 19 points and 7 rebounds for Toronto, but got very limited playing time as he got in foul trouble early due to Eddy Curry's physical game. Bosh fouled out with 2 minutes remaining in the game.

The Raptors trailed by as much as 10 in the game, 43-33 in the second, but a 11-2 run led by Jamario Moon got the Raptors close by one point, 45-44 a minute before ending the first half.

In the fourth quarter, Marco Belinelli converted a layup plus foul from Nate Robinson which cut the Knicks' lead to 88-85. But the Knicks won't budge as they went firing again to lead 97-90. The Raptors answered with a 8-2 run, including another layup by Belinelli that got the Raptors close 99-96. Belinelli missed the free throw but Jamario Moon grabbed the offensive rebound for the putback. Darko Milicic converted a 3-point play on the other end to put the Knicks up by 4, but Chris Bosh answered with a short jumper from the right elbow from Jose Calderon to cut the lead to 102-100.
