HEAT OPEN SEASON WITH BLOWOUT LOSS TO IVERSON-LED WIZARDS
Team doesn't score above 20 in quarter![]()

MIAMI, FL - Maybe playing Miami still makes one think he's on vacation. Because the Heat sure looked like it.
Shooting 41% from the field, failing to score at least 20 points in a single quarter and overall sloppiness all led to an embarrassing 79-56 defeat for the Heat in their season opener.
Newcomer Allen Iverson led the Wizards with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting and fellow backcourt-mate Gilbert Arenas scored 13 points while shooting 6-for-8. Both guard rang rings around the Heat defenders they constantly found themselves shooting the ball with absolutely no one in the area to contest their shots.
"They're a good offensive team," Heat guard Mario Chalmers said. "Obviously it's our job to make the adjustments defensively, and we didn't do that at all tonight."
Dwyane Wade was the only Heat player in double figures with 23 points and most times appeared to try to do it all himself. He took the most shots (16) and made 9, but played a very inefficient game, driving to the hole almost every possession.
Jermaine O'Neal was next in scoring with only 8 points.
None of the other Heat players could establish a rhythm offensively and it was evident in their outside shooting. Miami shot 1-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Wizards, on the other hand shot 55% from the field and was more aggressive on the boards, grabbing 10 more than the Heat.
"We're still having a feel for each other," Heat coach Erik Spoalstera said. "We're a very talented team and will hit our stride soon."
Newcomer Chris Tiu scored 5 points on 2-of-8 shooting, playing mostly in garbage time minutes in the fourth quarter.

HEAT BOUNCE BACK WITH SOLID WIN OVER DALLAS![]()

MIAMI, FL - Dwyane Wade took matters into his own hands again, this time with good results as he recorded a double-double of 26 points and 10 assists to lead the Miami Heat to an 84-75 win over Dallas.
Wade was visibly frustrated in practices after the team's season-opening blowout loss to the Washington Wizards that he came out of the gate early, scoring the first two baskets with vicious dunks. His teammates saw his intensity and fed off it, especially the bench, as they out-scored their Dallas counterparts, 34-19.
Getting playing time because of sloppy play by Mario Chalmers, rookie Chris Tiu had 11 points and a career-high 9 assists to lead the reserves. He shot 4-of-5 from the field and hit both his attempts from beyond the arc. Quentin Richardson, a question mark within the organization on his role, provided an additional spark with 10 points. Chalmers had 4 points, 3 assists and had 4 turnovers.
Josh Howard led the Mavericks with 27 points on a red-hot 10-of-13 from the field. Jason Terry and Shawn Marion also had big impacts, scoring 17 and 14. What was noticable, however, was the defense that Miami played on the team's stars, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd.
Nowitzki was held to only 10 points and 6 rebounds, hardly making a whisper in this game and while Kidd did have 12 assists, he only scored 2 points on a horrendous 1-of-9 shooting.
"It was important to stop those two guys," Wade said after the game. "They're a very dangerous team when they all play well so it was important to neutralize their Dirk and Jason. However, Howard still had a great game against us, and we can't continue to allow that. We gotta step it up."
The Heat led at halftime, 42-39 in a very tightly contest first half. The Heat pulled away in the second half, and were able to keep the Mavericks at bay.
