"And the New Orleans Hornets are advancing to the second round!"

Jason Kidd congratulated all the Hornets players until he finally got to up and coming point guard Chris Paul.

"Chris, you better win that championship before it's too late." Jason said. He gave Chris a pat on the back as he backed away.

"Hey Jason!" Chris yelled. Jason turn around. "Don't give up."

Jason gave a forced smile as he waved Chris good bye. He bowed his head down and walked into the tunnel.

Inside the Mavericks locker room, Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki and Mark Cuban sat together in the corner.

"I'm tired. Tired of losing." Jason shouted in frustration. He threw his towel down in anger.

"Hey Jason. No one said winning was going to be easy." Dirk responded.

"C'mon Jase." Mark said. He stood up and gave Jason a pat on the back.

"I've played more minutes in the league than Shaq and Mutombo and I'm still chasing that ring." Jason cried out. His eyes started to tear as he hid his face in his hands.

"Hey Jason, we're on this same team too." Dirk said calmly.

"Jase. Jase... Look at me." Mark signaled. Jason looked up. "If I don't build a championship team this offseason and we're not considered legitimate contenders by All-Star break, I'll trade you to a contender or I'll buy you out."

"I can't accept that." Jason responded.

"We won't hold it personally against you. You lead the league right now in career minutes... You deserve to win that ring."

"Thanks Mark."

Devastating injury to Nowitzki may make Kidd demand trade

Image

After a disappointing postseason last year the Mavericks came back this season stronger than before, posting a 32-20 record good enough for the 2nd best record in the West where the playing field has evened greatly this season where the Mavericks trail only behind a surprising Clipper team.

Earlier this season we had rumors of a Jason Kidd trade depending on how the Mavericks were doing and it seemed that Jason Kidd didn't have much to worry about but with about a week left until the trade deadline, Mavericks leading scorer Dirk Nowitzi came down with an injury. His broken ankle is expected to sit him out 6-8 weeks but doctors are saying it will probably take 8 weeks and there's no telling if Dirk will be able to come back 100% for the playoffs.

Which leaves one big question. What is Jason Kidd going to do? This is a season where there are no clear cut favorites especially in the West where experts are predicting the Clippers to lose in the first round due to a lack of intangibles. With Dirk out the Mavericks will just be like every other team but if Jason Kidd were to join one of the teams in the playoff pack it would definitely be enough to make that team a favorite for the championship.

If we take a look at the top 8 teams of each conference

West
Clippers
Mavericks
Blazers
Jazz
Hornets
Spurs
Rockets
Lakers

East
Celtics
Heat
Cavaliers
Raptors
Magic
Hawks
Bulls
Bobcats

The Clippers, Jazz, Hornets, Spurs, Celtics, Cavaliers, Raptors, Magic, Hawks, Bulls and Bobcats aren't really in the market for a either a point guard or acquiring Jason Kidd would not be an upgrade significant enough to make a trade, which leave possible destinations for Jason Kidd the Blazers, Rockets, Lakers and the Heat.

While joining the Blazers would be an interesting scenario for Jason Kidd where he can be the conductor for a group of young studs, Jason Kidd wants to win. The Lakers have a very talented squad but all the talent is not translating to Ws in the wins column at this point in his career Derek Fisher is more suited to a back up role and with a bit of motivation Kidd can still start for a championship team. The Rockets are also filled with talent and are a notorious defensive team with just as many defensive weapons as offensive weapons but of the possible destinations they also have the best young point guard prospect in Aaron Brooks and they might no want to sacrifice his minutes for a washed up Kidd. The Heat are also an interesting choice and pairing up Kidd with Wade would make for one of the league's most exciting backcourts.

According to league sources, the Lakers are the first team to have contacted Mark Cuban. Jason Kidd's contract will make him difficult to trade so Mark Cuban is looking at a buyout as an option.

Kidd signs with the Lakers after buy out

The NBA has finalized a deal. The Mavericks have bought out Jason Kidd and Kidd will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"Our season is gone, and honestly we'd feel bad for Jason if we just kept him on our team." Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said.

The Lakers who are surprisingly only the 8th seed in the West will get a much appreciated upgrade at the point guard position.

"Great pick up for us. We need to limit Fish's minutes and Farmar isn't realy for big minutes yet." Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson commented.

"Excellent pick up. I played with Jason on Team USA and we're a great fit. We need to turn the season around and Jason's the man to do it." Kobe Bryant said on the trade.

The Kidd acquisition have made the Lakers title favorites among many sports analysts who saw one of the weaknesses of the Lakers as a lack of a good playmaker other than Kobe and Kidd's presence will definitely help.

Kidd will wear his former number 5 while Jordan Farmar will switch back to his old number 1 that he wore in college.

Showtime Lakers Part 2

Image

The crowd was roaring with excitement in Jason Kidd's debut. The Lakers finally took a lead in the 4th quarter off an alley oop to Andrew Bynum from the greatest point guard to wear a Laker uniform since Magic Johnson.

"It was a great win. For us, for the fans. It was entertaining." said Bryant. Bryant led the Lakers with 26 points and added 4 assists. "Jason's a great player and any time you have someone of that caliber on your team you know it's gonna be good."

The newest Laker Jason Kidd struggled a bit with his shooting make only 5 of his 17 attempts but overall had a strong debut with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists.

Reserve Adam Morrison came off the bench to end the 3rd quarter to give the starters some rest but ended up making 3 3 pointers and finishing with a season high 13 points in just 7 minutes.

Andrew Bynum also had one of the best games of his career with 20 points and 18 rebounds. "Jason just opened everything up for me. He draws attention, he has great vision... I didn't even need to try on any of my shots."

Trevor Ariza was another Laker that had a good night with 17 points 9 rebounds and 8 assists and also knocked down crucial 3 pointers in the 4th quarter.

The Hawks wasted a 40 point effort from Mike Bibby who just could not stop knocking down jumpshots. Bibby had 30 points at the halftime and cooled off but still added 10 points in the second half.

"We played good, but they played better. There isn't much more you can do about that." said Mike Bibby.
