Clippers win No. 1 pick in Draft



For most of the last 25 years, the Los Angeles Clippers have had to travel across the country every spring for the NBA Draft Lottery.
Maybe Blake Griffin can help save them the trip.

After terrible last season(league worst 24-58 record) The Clippers won the lottery Tuesday night, moving up from the third-best chance to earn the top pick and the right to draft Griffin, the national college player of the year from Oklahoma.

"We're going to do our diligence and then we're going to pick the best player in the draft. A lot of people think that's Blake Griffin," Clippers president Andy Roeser said. "He's a terrific athlete, he's athletic and he's strong. Any franchise would be happy to have Blake Griffin for a long time."

And perhaps someday the All-America power forward will be part of a Clippers team doing what the Lakers, their Staples Center co-tenants, were doing Tuesday night: playing in the conference finals against the Hornets.

"I'm not sure we've stolen the spotlight [from the Lakers]," Roeser said. "A couple of years ago we were playing in the Playoffs and I would rather be in that position, no questions."

Los Angeles Lakers win NBA title



Kobe Bryant finally won his first NBA title without Shaquille O'Neal, his Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic in game seven in this years NBA finals(121:104) and won their first NBA title since 2002. Kobe Bryant was in his best by dropping 53 points with 20-33 shooting. Bryant also got his first Finals MVP trophy. It was well earned. Bryant scored 31.9 points, grabbed 6.1 rebounds and dished out 5.5 assists in the series.

Clippers hire Maurice Cheeks



After tough last year with the Clippers(24-58 record) Mike Dunleavy retired from his coach job. Today Los Angeles Clippers announced that they are hired Maurice Cheeks who was fired by Philadelphia 76ers last season. He is expected to earn 4 millions in two years. Coach Cheeks said he is ready to take Clippers to next level : "I'm glad to be here in Los Angeles. The big reason why I accepted the offer from Clippers is that we have first pick in upcoming NBA draft. I can tell you the secret - we are going to pick Blake Griffin. I'm here to develop young players and to take Clips to next level and we have enough talant to do it."

No surprise - Clippers select Blake Griffin



When David Stern said these words : "With the first pick in 2009 NBA draft the Los Angeles Clippers select Blake Griffin from Oklahoma," the crowd exploded and LA Clippers fans knew this will be the moment which they will remember for long, long time. Blake Griffin : "It's a very special moment for me. To be selected with the first pick it's really like a dream came true. You know LeBron James, Dwight Howard these two players are selected with the first pick some years ago and look how they change Cleveland and Orlando. It will be tough for me to did the same, but I'll do my best to make Clippers a championship caliber team. I'm sure we have all the pieces to play well in next years. It will be exciting to play with Baron(Davis), he is such a great PG and he always are making his team-mates better."

Clippers acquire Odom, Okafor and Felton



The Los Angeles Clippers made major moves before NBA preseason. Lamar Odom signed 4 year deal with Memphis Grizzlies just some days ago, but now he is back in L.A. this time he is expected to play for the Clippers - team whose drafted him and where Odom played his first years in NBA. In exchange for Odom the Clippers sent frustrated center Chris Kaman to Memphis. After that they acquired two more players - Emeka Okafor and Raymond Felton from Charlotte. In exchange Clippers traded Zach Randolph, Jerry Stackhouse and future 1st round pick to Bobcats. Clippers GM Elgin Baylor said the Clippers are not willing to make more trades before the start of 2009/2010 NBA season : "We are extremly excited to upgrade our roster with such great players. They all are expected to play huge roles in our team. We want to say thanks to Chris Kaman, Zach Randolph and Jerry Stackhouse for their contributions and we wish them only the best in their new clubs. We won't make any more trades before the start of the new season."

Clippers defeated by Suns in season opener



After playing great in preseason(5-2) LA Clippers didn't do the same last night when they fell to Suns(99:104). However Blake Griffin had exellent NBA debut - 17 points and 10 rebounds. Baron Davis scored 31 points and showed that he is still the men for Clips. Leandro Barbosa scored 25 for the Suns. Clippers played very well late in the game, but Eric Gordon missed 3 pointer which could sent the game to overtime. Coach Cheeks : "We don't have the right chemistry right now. We are not playing like a one unit. However guys started to feel each other late in the game so I'm optimistic for next games. Our defense need some improvements, we allowed our opponents too many open shots. Now we need to make some adjustments before next game against the Nuggets."
