Thats an awful lot of reserved posts...

Good luck with this. Hopefully you don't feel the need to play 82 games and picked a team you actually liked. I'll be following, but I really hope you know what you're doing...

Blue & White: Ignite :: Season Preview

Last Season: 52-30; lost in second round of playoffs to Pistons
Key Players Added: Mickael Pietrus (free agent), Anthony Johnson (free agent, fountain of youth), Courtney Lee (draft)
Key Players Lost: Carlos Arroyo (overseas), James Augustine (waived), Keyon Dooling (insulted by Magic, traded to the Nets, insulted by Lawrence Frank's height), Maurice Evans (free agent, signed with Hawks), Pat Garrity (retired), Pat Garrity's chair

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could this be the year that the Orlando Magic win the NBA Championship?

Coming off what the Magic call a surprise season, going 52-30, finishing third in the Eastern Conference and winning their first playoff series in 12 years, you can expect great intensity from them this year. Orlando is compiled with a fairly young squad including a few veterans. Last season, they really believed they had what it took to win the NBA Championship. After they beat the Toronto Raptors 4-1 in the first round of the playoffs, they shortly ended their season losing to the big, bad Detroit Pistons 4-1. They come into this season with Jameer Nelson as their starting point guard. Jameer had a breakout 2005-06 season, averaging just under 30 minutes per game, including 14.6 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. The following season, he averaged only 13 points and 4.3 assists per game. Jameer isn't what we call a top-10 PG in the NBA, but he has the potential to improve into one, or Magic fans still believe so. Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue will be his backups.

This offseason, the Magic signed 6'6" guard Mickael Pietrus to a four-year deal. He will start the season off at the Shooting Guard position and can play as a Small Forward as well—he is an extremely versatile and athletic player that can play both ends of the court. In his 2006-07 season with the Golden State Warriors, Pietrus put up breakout numbers when given a career high 26.9 minutes per game, he averaged 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and just under one steal, block, and assist per game. Alongside of Pietrus stands SG 6'5" rookie Courtney Lee. The former Western Kentucky Hilltoppers star scored over 2,200 points in college while playing all four years at 30 plus minutes per game. He is a very experienced player with outstanding shooting ability, as he made 245 thee-pointers in college and shot a terrific 40 percent shooting from outside the three point line. He is also a solid defender and could be a huge steal along with Pietrus for the Magic. 6'4" SG J.J. Redick out of Duke might get a chance to show his skills this season. He signed a new contract with the Magic and worked out his upper body this off season, putting a lot of time and dedication to improve his play. If the J.J. of old can come out of his shell, he can be another outside threat for the team.

Last season, the Most Improved Player of the Year Award went to 6'10" forward Hedo Turkoglu. Hedo broke out with numbers the world had never seen him put up before having career high averages in minutes, points, rebounds, and assists. He ended this 07-08 campaign logging 36.9 minutes, 19.5 points, 5.7 boards, and 5.0 assists per game. He will start 2008-09 season as the starting SF, but what can we expect from the Turk this season? Will he be able to carry his career season into the upcoming one? If the Magic want a chance at winning the title, Hedo knows that he must produce.

The electrifying Rashard Lewis will start at PF for Orlando this season. From his past we learned that he is a consistent player during the season and in the playoffs. In the 07-08 playoffs, Rashard averaged nearly 20 points, seven rebounds per game, three-and-a-half assists, and one steal per game. Although he has been in the league for 10 seasons already, it seems like he is in the midst of his prime. He is a great shooter and will continue his outstanding play coming into this season. Playing as the backup power forward is 10-year veteran Tony Battie. Battie can provide the team with solid defense when given time to play but will have to step up this season, if they want any chance at getting to the NBA Finals.

At Center 6'11" Dwight Howard (a.k.a. Superman) averaged career highs in minutes, points, blocks, and rebounds in the 07-08 season. He averaged 37.7 minutes, 20.7 points, 14.16 rebounds (leading the league) and 2.2 blocks per game, including 73 double doubles. Dwight hasn't missed a game in his four-year career and will be relied upon as the captain to take his team to the championship. The 6'11" Polish Marcin Gortat will get a chance to play backup center behind Dwight this season. He can rebound well and if he gets more minutes this season, he can actually get a chance to show what he is all about. Adonal Foyle is getting old, and will slowly begin to lose minutes to Gortat.

Head Coach Stan Van Gundy and Assistant Coach Patrick Ewing will have to step up this season if they are expecting to win this season as well. With the talent and determination, this young team will have a great chance to surprise the world this season. They have the weapons to beat any team in the league.

Expected Record: 55-27

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Word From The Fans

Lamrock, from Seattle: "For the past three offseasons, Jameer Nelson has flown his Orlando Magic teammates to his hometown of Philadelphia for a week-long event in which the team goes bowling, attends comedy clubs, visits Atlantic City, gets competitive in team paintball fights, and more. Ah, the life of a professional athlete. But all jealousy aside, Nelson doesn't just plan these activities because they're fun. He does this because he understands the importance of team chemistry."
IM2FLASHY_330, from Miami: "I think the team will bond in a relaxed setting and become comfortable with the people that they'll be seeing very much of throughout the 82-game season. At some point these players will develop both chemistry and trust in one another that will be instrumental in their success."
Valor, from Hong Kong: "Mickael Pietrus was a nice signing, but Courtney Lee is going to be the two guard of the future for the Magic. He embodies everything the Magic were missing. He can score in bunches, he's a solid defender on the perimeter and he's a heck of nice guy, which matches the Magic's community friendly image. Courtney, as a rookie will become the player the Magic thought they drafted in J.J. Redick."
Sit, from Australia: "Orlando should stand up this season and be a serious contender to win the Eastern Conference, after all the team was just beaten by Boston and Detroit last season and they maintain the same team structure. Howard will once again be the team’s superstar and it would be great for him if he could improve his FT%, which is curiously lower than his FG%! The roster seems to be lacking depth, the team is young, so the chances of they get plagued by injuries is lower, but if that happens, this may be an huge problem for the team."
Martti, from Estonia: "Despite his height (and my complete lack of faith in him) Jameer Nelson turned into a fine point guard in this League. Hedo Turkoglu is at the peak of his career; Rashard Lewis is healthy and playing great ball. New additions like the energetic and crafty Mickael Pietrus, along with veteran point guard Anthony “Beetlejuice” Johnson – who at times shows flashes of brilliance – will try and put it all together this season."
homicide1550, from Phillipines: "Building off of last year’s momentum, the Magic will pick up right where they the left off. A few offseason trades and a year of gelling together is great for the organization and amazing for keeping hope alive in the fan’s hearts. This year they will one-up themselves and make it to the Eastern Conference Finals against KG and Boston. Now Pietrus provides a certain defensive toughness for the Magic. It will be a fun and exciting year, but we all have to wait and see if Dwight is ready to superman this b*tch!"

Blue & White: Ignite :: Prediction Game (Oct.28)

Postby kibaxx7 on Fri May 01, 2009 12:13 pm

Here's the deal: today I saw today at NBA Talk a link to ESPN's Streak For The Cash and it gave me an idea. Instead of doing my good ol' Daily Dime like in the Nets association (it takes a lot of time) I will make it a prediction game. Just as ESPN's game, I will post the games of the day and will provide you with two, some times three scenarios for the game and you just have to predict correctly. Can't think of a prize right now, but as I have the Edit Prospects option enabled, the final table will determine the draft order for you guys. Will give you some tips for the event and you can take them into consideration or not.

Rules
Correct guess: 1 point.
If you guess at least 50% of the events of the day: 5 extra points.
If you guess all the events of the day: 10 extra points.

:: October 28th, 2008 ::

Hmmm... I hope that's not me because I didn't say that.

If you asked me what I thought I would say, "Orlando? Why you asking me about Orlando? The Lakers are going to win it all and I don't really care about any of the other 29 teams in the NBA. Lakers, that's all anyone needs to care about." :D

Joking man!

And with prediction game thing:

Kirk Hinrich
LA Lakers
Eddie House

If anyone copies my picks, I will stab them!
