::The Prologue::

[Bounce, bounce, bounce] As he crosses the half-court line with 3.2 seconds left and his team down by 1, he fakes a defender, goes left, dribbles in-between two forwards. As he reaches the 10 ft area, 21 year old, Jon Fajardo, rose up and sent a wave of roaring chants around the arena as he slammed it down. In the few seconds he was on the rim, all he could think of was how he single handedly took this no-name Sacramento State college team and gave em' all something to remember. As those seconds came down, Jon released his grasp from the bright orange unforgiving circle and came down...hard. In his most memorable game, Jon landed awkwardly and his left knee popped out, dislocating his knee cap, his (MCL), (ACL) and (PCL).

As Jon lay there, obviously in agonizing pain, all he could think about, all that was going on in his mind was that he was done. As emergency personnel and team doctors came rushing to his aide, Jon slowly but surely began to loose consciousness as every career ending minute passed him by.

Now, 7 years later, Jon is currently back in his hometown of Oakland, California where he is a trainer for his hometown Golden State Warriors.

::I'll Make Some Calls For You::

"Alright guys! C'mon! Gimme one more set and we'll call it a day!" Jon instructed as he was ending the teams daily workout routine. As the team came around to finishing their last, exhausting set, Jon stated, "Good job guys, I know these workouts are killer but you know what Don expects from you guys if we plan on running his fast-paced small ball scheme."

As he excused the team, President of Operations Chris Mullen appeared, "Hey Jon, what's going on?" "Ah nothing much you know? Just getting this team all ready for Don's run n' gun scheme." replied Jon. As they both continued their conversation, Chris asked Jon to join him for a late lunch at one of his favorite restaurants. "Uh, yeah sure why not? " replied Jon, who was eager but very confused as to why Mullen would ask him to join him.

As the waitress sat the both of them down, she handed over the menu's, "Here you go fellas. Just let me know when you're ready." As she walked off into the kitchen, all Jon could think about was what Chris needed to talk to him about. "The burgers are great here!" Mullen stated. As Jon began looking over his menu, the waitress who had sat them down approached them both, "So what can I get you guys?" Jon looked at Mullen and Mullen responded, "I'll have the beef teriyaki burger and a coke please." The waiter took his order then turned to Jon, "Uhm I'll have the chicken teriyaki burger, please." Jon didn't like chicken teriyaki but he also didn't want to get the same thing Chris got, which was his favorite. "And a sprite," he added.

As they later got their food, Mullen asked, "Jon, how is everything in the locker room?" Confused, Jon responded, "Everything is fine. The guys seem to be getting in better shape for the upcoming season." Mullen looked serious. Jon knew something was going to happen. He just didn't know what. "That's good, but I mean how are things for you in the locker room? Are you happy with the conditions there and whatnot?" Jon looked even more confused, only this time he began to worry that Mullen might be firing him. "Uh, everything is good." Jon decided to be a bit more descriptive in hopes of keeping his job which he forsure hasn't lost yet, "I'm really beginning to form a bond with the guys and everyone else just seems we'll-rounded here." Hoping that would squash any further discussion, Jon knew that Mullen had other things in mind.

"That's all fine, Jon. But may I be a bit more direct with you? You see, I've been keeping an eye on you and I've been hearing nothing but good things about you from the staff, the players and Don Nelson himself." A bit more at ease, Jon responded, "Really? Wow, well that's nice of them." Mullen continued, "Yeah, Jon... I've been thinking, and maybe it's time you had a shot at becoming involved with basketball on a whole new level." "Sir?" Jon responded. Mullen again continued, "Jon, I want to see how you do taking over a franchise."

[Silence]

Jon was excited alright, but he just had no way of expressing it. "What? Are you serious? Me? Taking over the Warriors franchise?" Mullen quickly stopped him, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Haha, hold it. I didn't say THIS franchise. I'll tell you what, I'll make some calls for you immediately and see what's going around the league as far as GM's go and I'll get back to you ASAP. How's that sound?" With an almost dumbfounded facial expression, Jon stuttered, "S-s-sure, yeah, sounds great."

As the late lunch date came to an end and the two departed into their own cars, Mullen yelled, "Give me a day or so and I'll fill you in if anything comes up." Jon said, "Okay. Don't keep me waiting because I might find another training job!" (Jon's poor attempt at humor, and he knew it). As he got into his car, Jon waited for Mullens car to pull out of the driveway. The second his car pulled out, Jon shouted, "YEEES!"

::You Mind Stopping By the Office?::

Contemplating on what happened just a few hours prior, Jon decided to tell his wife, Alyson, the possible news of him being the GM of an NBA team. "So babe, I was having lunch with the President of Basketball Operations and he proposed a deal that can really change our lives." Interested but worried at the same time, Alyson responded, "What's the proposal?" With a look of confidence Jon continued, "Okay, well, Chris Mullen asked me to leave as the Warriors trainer-" Almost immediately, alyson stopped him, "No, no, no! You can't! Are you crazy!?! Did you get fired?"

Confused, Jon intervened, "-What? No babe! Listen, he asked me to leave as the Warriors trainer to become GM of an entire team!" Knowing how bad her husband has been ranting about, "If I could control this team... I can do that...," she began tearing up. "Im so proud of you baby! What team? And when!?!" As she began hugging him in congratulations, Jon replied, "Well, he said give him a day or two and he'l let me know ASAP. So either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow."

Still with a look of disbelief, Alyson said, "My baby is going to be the GM of a professional basketball team!" she began visualizing conversations with her friends, "So what does your husband do?" "Oh he's the GM of a professional basketball team." Jon looked on, "You're crazy babe." Immediately she knew she would love it.

As they both began to head to bed, Jon put his phone on its loudest setting just in case...

(The next morning)

[Ring, ring] "H-Hello?" Jon answered as he awoke from his sleep. "Jon? Hey man, it's Chris." The name on the other end immediately shot Jon in the air awaiting to hear why he called. "Yeah, hey what's up Chris? Heard any offers?" "Not only did I get an offer, I got a couple! I wanted to go over each one with you and kind of help you with your decision. You mind stopping by the office, say around 10ish? The teams need to hear from you by 3." Looking at the time (9:30), Jon said his goodbye's and immediately got ready for his life changing meeting. As he left he gave his wife a big kiss, "See you later babe. On my way to meet with Chris. He said he had a couple of offers for me!" Alyson looked on, still 90% asleep, "Good luck honey..." then dozed off again.

::I'll Have to Choose...::

Dressed in a suit, Jon knocked on Chris Mullens door. [Knock, knock] "C'mon in Jon," Mullen shouted. As Jon entered he saw Chris Mullen along with Don Nelson. He also noticed 3 piles of papers, each on had a team name who was willing to give him a shot at GM. "Hey what's up guys? How are you all doing?" Jon asked. "Good," Nelson and Mullen replied.

"So Jon, we have here 3 possible cities you can be GM for. It's not as easy as it sounds, it's not like pick and your done. Once you select the team, you must fly out to the city to meet with the current GM for an interview. Following the interview, there will be a week or so before you hear from them confirming whether your in or your not," Mullen explained. Nervous as hell, Jon answered, "Uhuh, yeah of course." (As if he knew that already) As Mullen pulled out the papers which had the interested team names on em', Jon began hoping that in one of those 3 teams was a team that was already play off bound or at least needed a season to get to the playoffs.

Mullen handed over the papers. Jon, with a look of hope, read over he names: New York Knicks... Jon thought to himself, "They have a decent squad, but it will take a long while before they put up a playoff record." Jon put the paper aside. The second team: Portland Trailblazers... again, "Lots of really young players who are ready to make a push into the playoffs. However, I don't want to interrupt their chemistry over there." Like the paper with the Knicks name, he set it aside. Slowly glancing at the last paper, Jon got the letters; M-I-A-M-I. Almost instantly Jon began to think of how he always idolized Pat Riley and what he's done for the league. Miami also happened to be Jon's favorite basketball team.

Almost in disbelief, Jon looked at the paper again and then looked up at Chris and Don, "Why is Pat offering me a GM spot?" "Well Jon, you see, Pat is about to retire after this season and is looking for someone (An heir if you will), to pass the franchise down to. I told him that we had a guy who was real passionate about the game and he almost immediately extended his hand as an offer." Jon couldn't believe that he could possibly be only weeks away from owning the Miami Heat.

"Wow. Well, I see potential in all three teams. But it's been my life long dream to be involved with the Miami Heat." Holding the paper tight in his hands, Jon said, "I'll have to choose... Miami!"

And with that, the call was made and Jon was on the next available flight to Miami, Florida to meet with the man who will be giving Jon the opportunity of a lifetime!

Pat Riley to Step Down As Miami GM?

Image
Riley (above) after stating that he will retire as GM.

Miami, Florida (AP)- You heard it here folks! Beloved GM and once coach of the Miami Heat, Pat Riley has decided to step down as the teams GM and pass it down to another GM hopeful. Riley scheduled a Press Conference to announce his retirement and his plans for the new GM, "Me retiring has nothing to do with our 15 win record last season, but has everything to do with me noticing that this team needs a new GM to lead them and makes moves for them in order to be the championship contender that they were in 2006." As Riley continued his speech, he did begin to tear up as he truly loved the Miami Heat organization and everyone involved with it. "I will be immediately interviewing possible candidates for the job and schedule another Press Conference on behalf of that individual."

As Riley ended his speech, fans and even players began approaching Riley and gave him hugs of appreciation and even took pictures.

"He was a great guy off and on the court," says Miami's Forward Udonis Haslem, as he attended the Conference. "I'm sure he will select a great person to take over. But right now, we (the players) have to worry about turning our 15 win season into a play off record." Riley, as seen above shook hands with another legend, Alonzo Mourning, who hints at retiring this season as well.

As Miami looks toward their future without Pat Riley, they realize that not only will they have young players coming in, but also a new GM to adjust to.

::It Shouldn't Take Long::

Nervous as ever, Jon slowly walked up to President of Basketball Operations, Pat Rileys office and knocked. "Come in," said a voice from inside. As Jon walked in, the first person he saw was the Heat's head coach Erik Spoelstra who was all suited up for this special occasion. As Jon opened the door wider he saw the man who was to decide his fate, Pat Riley. "Jon? Hey what's going on come on in. We were just reviewing the reccomendation Chris faxed over to us."

As Jon walked in he can only imagine how everything would be if he were to get this job. "How are you guys?" Jon asked. "Fine," said Riley. "Never been better," said Spoelstra. "So Jon, lets say we get down to business and go on with the interview?" asked Riley. With an almost unsure response, Jon answered, "Yeah lets do it." And they begun...

As they came to an end, Riley had one more question that needED to be answered, "So Jon, if you were the GM right now, what changes would you make to this team?" Jon thought about it for awhile, remembered the roster and how the team played and answered, "Well honestly, I wouldnt change a lot as of right now. We have a solid bunch right now and so its a matter of looking at the pieces and determining who is going to fit with the system or maybe if we should change the system to fit the players./i]" As he finished he caught a glimpse of Spoelstra and Riley nodding their heads in agreement. "[i]I see. Well great, Jon, this has been truly a pleasure. I can see a lot of great things in you which would make you a top choice for GM. I will review your file and talk it over with Erik and get back to you ASAP, it should take long," Riley said with a smile. "Thanks a lot, its also been a pleasure to be here." Jon got up, shook both their hands and left with a sense of accomplishment.

As he left, Riley looked at Spoelstra and they both nodded in agreement..

::You Can't Be Serious!?!::

As Jon lay in his hotel room in Miami, he began thinking about his interview with Riley. "Man I sure hope I get it. I've come such a long way and it would be such a disappointment to have come all this way for nothing." Just then, as if a sign from above, Jon receives a call from Pat Riley, "Jon? Hey kid, listen after careful review and talks with Spoelstra we've decided that there would be no one else as qualified as you are. You got the position! Congratulations!" Almost as if he had be knocked unconscious, Jon replied, "What?"

"You got it! Haha, as of today you will now be the owner of the Miami Heat!" Still shocked at the life changing news, Jon replied, "You can't be serious!?! I got? Yees! Thank you so much sir! You won't regret it!" "I know I won't," Riley said. "I've arranged for you and your family to come down to your new home and set up a press day. How's that sound?" Jon answered immediately, "Yes! Sounds great we'll see you soon. Thanks again bye!" As he hung up the phone, he saw his wife come down the stairs...

"I got it," Jon said. "No!?! You did? Oh my- im so happy for you baby!" Alyson exclaimed. "Yeah, he wants us to fly over to Miami for a press conference, and get this... he bought us a house over there!" Jon explained. Immediately, Alyson and Jon packed their stuff and were off to Miami so Jon could be revealed as Miami's new GM.

Fajardo To Be Introduced As New GM

Image
Fajardo (left) in a pick-up game 7 years ago

Miami, Florida (AP)- With the season coming near, it seems the vacany for the GM spot has been filled by Jon Fajardo. Fajardo, 28, will look to be one of the youngest GM's in the history of the NBA.

Born in Oakland, California, Jon is one of two children to Nancy Fajardo. He never met his real dad so he taught himself the game of basketball and excelled at it all the way through college where it sadly ended. Since then, Jon has been a top Trainer in the league with the Golden State Warriors. Knowing his background, Jon will look to embed a run n' gun offense as he was taught that system back in Golden State.

More on this new hiring will be provided as soon as possible.

::Time To Get Serious::

"Welcome to todays unveiling of Miami's new GM. Im glad you all could make it, " Riley told the reporters, journalists and fans. "Today will be a memorable day as we introduce you all to the new GM of the Miami Heat, Jon Fajardo!"

[Applause & Cheers]

Jon took center stage and waved to everyone at his new home. "Thank you all so much, this past month has been one of the best months I've had!" the cheering went one. "Today I stand before you as the your miami heats new gm and I can assure you that we will have a successful season this year. I have big plans for this franchise and I hope you will all be there to witness them." Jon's energy and confidence really got to the crowd as they felt as if they found a gem in Jon Fajardo.

"I'am now available for questions if you have any."

As the questions were rolling by, jon answered them with ease. However one question got him thinking, "Why do you think Pat Riley hired you as his replacement?"

[Silence]

"You know what, I don't know. I honestly don't know. Maybe it was the way I dressed?" Jon said. The crowd laughed. "You know, whatever his reasoning was, im glad he picked me. I made a commitment to myself that if I were to get this position, that I would turn this club around and produce one hell of a squad here in Miami. I have no experience seeing as I was just a trainer, however, what I do have is confidence. If I believe I can turn this team around, then guess what? This team is turning around 180 degrees. Celebrations over, its time to get serious."

The crowd openly welcomed that statement and without waiting to see if he was done, applauded and cheered.

"Thank you so much, " Jon said, "But that's it for now, I must go back to the facilities and meet with the players. Thanks again and hopefully you will all support my plans for this team. Thank you"

With the cameras flashing, Jon knew that he was already a fan favorite here in Miami just as he has hoped...

Good luck!

I do plan on some.

I have the updated roster so my line up kinda looks like this:

PG- Mario Chalmers
SG- Dwyane Wade
SF- Jamario Moon
PF- Udonis Haslem
C- Jermaine O' Neal

However, depending on the scheme I want to instill. If I choose to run a run n gun offense then i would want it to look like thIs...

PG- Mario Chalmers
SG- Dwyane Wade
SF- James Jones (for his 3's) or Dorrell Wright (for his perimeter d)
PF- Michael Beasley
C- Udonis Haslem

I will keep you updated on my planned schemed and/or trades so yeah... hope you keep following

::This Is Wade's World!::

[Whistle!] "Alright guys, lets run that one more time. Michael, you gotta step in on that shot! C'mon lets go!" Erik Spoelstra shouted as he walked along the baseline watching his squad run a set play. As the team continued to practice, Jon came through and drew the attention of the players. "Hey new GM! What's up?" they team said. "Nothing much but you better get back to work if you want that championship!" replied Jon. "Ahaha yeah yeah, we got it. We got a set play called New GM. We might run that for you one game," Wade responded.

"Ahaha, I'll be there!" jon replied. " Hey listen Dwyane, you mind if we talk a bit?" "Naw, not at all," replied Wade. As they stepped to the side Wade underhanded the ball into the net... [Swish!] Jon continued, "Listen, I know im new here but i 've watched this team and this team absolutely needs you man. The team flourishes when you flourish, ya know? You are the vocal point of this team." "Ah thanks Jon. Ill do what I can for you and this team. No doubt," Wade replied. "Good. You know its Wades world on that court during the games and practices. I have faith in you, so I know you won't disappoint. Now go back out there wit ur team," Jon said. As Wade walked off he knew that Jon was the right fit for this team.

"Time to get to work," Jon said to himself.

Thanks a lot! I can't wait either. but a lot of work has to be done before then... so sit tight.

BTW, if you guys have any trade ideas I'am open to all suggestions...

Remember, i'm trying to instill either a run n gun offense or a pound inside first, kick outside second scheme...

Morrison Heading to Miami?

Image
Miami shows interest in Morrison (above right)

Miami, Florida (AP)- As the season draws even nearer, new GM Jon Fajardo has shown early interest in acquiring 24 year old Adam Morrison. Morrison as we all know failed great expectations in Charlotte after his injury. Morrison was later involved in a trade that would send Morrison and Shannon Brown to the Lakers in exchange for Vladimir Radmanovic. If this move goes through, Miami would look to send Jamario Moon, Luther Head and a 2nd Round Draft Pick over to the Lakers.

When asked about this possible trade, Jon explained that Morrison would be a great addition to his Run n' Gun offense that he is trying to instill within the Heat organization. "Morrison is a great shooter. If he can get his legs all worked up, he can be a valuable piece to the offense," Jon told reporters.

With Miami's first game coming up against the Knicks in New York, it looks like we will have to wait awhile before anything officially happens as Morrison will have to pass a physical, then fly to Miami in hopes of joining the team for their home opener.

By the way Morrison plays in real life, he's worth no more than a 2nd round pick. Moon + Head + Pick is too much in my opinion.

But hey, it's your association. So do what you think is best.

::Madison Square Garden::

New York, New York (AP)- The New York Knicks will look to begin their season opener at home against the Miami Heat. In it, we feature two teams who are in the rebuilding phase of their franchises. Both have new head coaches (Spoelstra & D'Antoni). And both have a mix of young and veteran guys as well. The Miami Heat are looking to go small ball in their offense where as the New York Knicks are looking to go run n gun, too. It will be interesting to see whose team jumps out of the Garden with a win considering both are instilling similar styles of play. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to a great match-up between the two teams.

Dwyane Wade is coming off a injury ridden season last year in which his Miami Heat won only 15 games. However, with the Gold in his pocket and new star in Michael Beasley, the Miami Heat are looking to push for more than just a 15+ win, but a shot at the playoffs as well.

The Knicks are coming off yet another disappointing season in which they brought in Mike D'Antoni to help shape things up. They aqcuired Al Harrington in exchange for Jamal Crawford so it seems Harrington will look to be the vocal point of this franchise. Meanwhile, Mr. Kryptonite himself, Nate Robinson, and everybody elese is expecting this to be his breakout season. And with D'Antoni run n gun scheme, it looks as if Nate will be playing great this season.

And with that, we bring you to our "Key Matchup of the Day!"

::Key Matchup of the Day::

#30 Michael Beasley v. #10 Al Harrington

This will be a great match-up and a test for the rookie Michael Beasley. Harrington is coming off a 13.6 PPG and a 5.4 RPG season last year and will look to increase in both stats. Beasley will have his work cut out for him with Harrington- and we can't forget David Lee. However, if Beasley can keep his energy up, I don't think he should have any problems with Harrington.

Harrington will need to be aware of everything Beasley does as Beasley can score at will. Although he isn't proven yet, against NBA players, Beasley is one that nobody should doubt as he can light it up from anywhere. Beasley is just as aggressive as anybody, and to have guys like Harrington and Beasley under the rim jocking it out, could prove to be a very physical game downlow for both teams.

Oh believe me, I tired finding a way to send one guy over and pick, but Moon's contract was only 750K, and Morrisons is 4.36M, so i had to put in Luther Head's 3.52M contract in it as well and even with that, they still would accept the trade so i threw in the pick.

if you guys have any thoughts on this possible trade look at this:

(PG)Luther Head $3.52M
(SF)Y. Diawara $480K
(C)M. Blount $8.09M
(SF)J. Moon $750K

Above are all guys I'm willing to give up. So if you guys can help with possible trades ASAP, then I would appreciate it. Thanks. TIme to play that New York game!

Again, good luck in the opener man. I agree with you, Blount has to go right now, but his salary makes it a little difficult to trade :P

"Wade & Co. Use Defense to Beat New York"

New York, New York (AP)- What a way to kick off the Miami Heat campaign! Dwyane Wade showed very early signs of what's yet to come in the season as the Miami Heat beat the New York Knicks 97-75.

Wade showed exactly why nobody should sleep on him. Wade scored 30 points on 11 of 23 shooting and 7 for 10 behind the charity line. Wade was simply lights out in the paint. New York tried throwing everything they had at him but he just continued to stay hot. "I was just finding my shots. Honestly I thought I wasn't even at 30 because there was a stretch where I had missed quite a couple," Wade said after the game. In perhaps, what many consider Wade's breakout season, it seems as if Wade is ready to take this young group of guys to the next level within a short period of time.

Besides Wade, rookie Michael Beasley, had an excellent night with 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting and 6 of 9 behind the stripes. When asked whether or not he tried a bit too hard Beasley said that all he was trying to do was establish himself early and find his shots. Along with his 26 points, Beasley added 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. Jermaine O'Neal added an additional 17 points in his first game as a Miami Heat.

For New York, Nate Robinson tried to carry the team as he hit 4 of 4 3 pointers coming off the bench! His second 3 would give them the lead but not for long. New Yorks lead would go as far as 3 until Wade and the rest of the Miami Heat played lock down defense. However, a bright side to the Knicks game was that David Lee and Eddy Curry combined for a total of 33 boards (Lee- 19, Curry- 14). Curry recorded a double double with 13 and 14 while David Lee almost had a double double with 8 and 19.

Chris Duhon tried to carry some of the load with 12 points, but failed to protect the ball as he had 7 turnovers. The Knicks, in general, were held to 34% shooting on 28 of 81 shots thansk to the lock down defense of the Miami Heat who shot 46% on 48 of 82 shooting.

Game Notes: The Miami Heat forced 27 turnovers in one of their best defensive games in awhile. The New York Knicks produced 47 bench points thanks in part to Nate Robinson. Al Harrington was pulled out the game early for no reason, nothing has been released as to why.
