Marbury, Rivers talks about new season

Image

NBA reigning champions Boston Celtics will start their new season at home against division rivals Philadelphia 76ers. After winning their 17 title in franchise history there were some changes in Celtics roster. First they lost 6th men James Posey who hit many big threes in Celtics championship run last season. Posey signed 4 year deal with New Orleans Hornets. However Celtics signed another player with great history in the league - Stephon Marbury who was released by NY Knicks in july. Stephon Marbury : ''It's so great to be here in Boston. I never played in such talanted team. You know there are KG, Paul(Pierce), Ray(Allen) and a very promising PG - Rajon Rondo. It's a wonderful opportunity for me to finally win a title. I know I won't be a starter and I accept it. There are no problems with my role.'' Winning 18 title won't be easy for the Celtics and coach Rivers know it : ''Winning title this year will be even more difficult then it was last year. Our opponents are looking more and more dangerous. Cleveland got Mo Williams, Lakers got back Andrew Bynum, Magic added Alston, Pietrus and Lee, Pistons got AI. These kind of teams are looking a lot better then 1 year ago. So repeat won't be easy for us.''

After their final practice the Celtics are now prepering for season opener against 76ers. There will be ring ceremony before the game so this will be a very special evening for the reigning champions.

Celtics got their rings, but lost in season opener

Image

Image

It was a very emocional evening for the Celtics. Celtics got their rings and rised their 17 champions banner. However the evening wasn't all great for the Celts they got their first loss in the season in just first game. Give a big credit to 76ers Elton Brand who scored 32 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead his team past defending champions Boston Celtics. It was Brand's first game as a player of Philadelphia 76ers(he signed multi year extension this summer). Kevin Garnett was the best for the Celtics - 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Paul Pierce also helped with his all around effort - 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, but The Truth missed a possible game tying lay-up 2 seconds before the end of 4th quarter. Doc Rivers : ''We played pretty good for the first game of season. I doubt if I we could do better job on Elton(Brand), yes he scored 32, but he is a superstar, when he gets going you can't do much of anything. He made a lot of difficult shots. Ray did a good job on Iguodala limiting him with 11 points on 5-17 shooting. However our offense are not as good as needed so we lost a game in the end. We are now working hard in practices to improve our shooting and better movement in defense. We need to be ready in next game against the Blazers.''

It's a forum glitch guys. I submited this post many times, but nothing happened, then after some time I opened this association to submit my post eight time, but then I saw 7 posts from me... btw you can see that in his page are only 6 replies. NLSC didn't count my 7 ''posts''. I don't know why we see them. :P

One man show at the TD Banknorth Garden

Image

Boston Celtics earned their first win in the season by defeating Portland Trail Blazers at home(106:99). Player of the game? Well, Brian Scalabrine. Joke? Not really. Brian Scalabrine scored 17 points in 4 quarter(5-5 threes) and earned player of the game title for the first time in his NBA career. Scalabrine just took over with his shooting and as a result he played all 12 minutes in final quarter. Sorry Kendrick Perkins! Celtics finished the game with this lineup - C - Garnett, PF - Scalabrine, SF - Pierce, SG - Allen, PG - Rondo.

Paul Pierce scored 22 points and dished out 6 assists and Kevin Garnett added 20 points and 10 rebounds. However Ray Allen slump continues. He scored just 10 points with 4-12 shooting. Greg Oden had a monster game for the Blazers - 18 and 19 rebounds.

Doc Rivers : ''It was a nice game. We played better in offense then we did against the 76ers. Scalabrine surprised everyone in 4 quarter and that's a big key in our win. He probably will got more playing time in next games. Still our rebounding need improvement we were outrebounded 42:33.''

Brian Scalabrine : ''It was really nice game for me and my team-mates. I took first shot and nailed it then I took more ones and hit them too. I hope I'll got more playing time in future!''
