INTERVIEW WITH COACH MAGNANO
Newly Grizzlies coach, Ruben Magnano, after today's practice, talked to reporters about his succesfull coaching career in Argentina, with the National team and his new challenge in the NBA.
Memphis: Hi coach, we all know that you were champion with Atenas in Argentina, you won the gold medal with Argentina in Athens, but now you're moving to a different basketball world, how is going on that move?
Coach Magnano: Well, hi to everybody. It's a bit difficult by now to communicate with the players, I'm just getting on with the language but sometimes it would be easier to talk to them in spanish but with the time the communication will get better. You said that is another world in basket, I wouldn't say that at all. Different? Yes it is, but with the addition of players like Manu, The Gasol brothers, Scola, Nash, the game is getting the taste of European and South American game. The NBA is starting to assemble a lot of types of games. I will try to put a bit of my type of game here in Memphis
M: So, what is going to be that type of game?
Coach: First of all, I want everybody to take all they selfishness away, I don't want to be a 1, 2 man game, the 5 that are on the court are attacking options, and everybody who comes of the bench too. Second, I want the Grizz to be like a machine, I want them to be perfect, yes perfect. And last, and I would say the most difficult, I want defense, but I think that with the course of the season we would be better
M: Lots of trades, lots of new faces... You suggested them?
Coach: I talked to Alejandro (Memphis GM) and I recommended some players and some positions that I wanted to solidify. He answered me and I'm very happy
M: Last question, this year goal is?
Coach: I want to give some happiness to the city of Memphis, I hope for a playoff spot
