How to increase the overall ratings?

Postby pezastic on Fri Jan 30, 2009 3:00 pm

I'm on my second season with the Phoenix Suns and all the players have decreasing overall ratings (with a red arrow pointing down). All but a few of the other teams' rosters have players with increasing overall ratings (with a green arrow pointing up). I have played with the rotation to increase and decrease starting player game times for several games and it doesn't seem to make a difference to the overall ratings of any of my players. What can I do to get those numbers higher?

You have to keep your players happy and give them proper roles. For example, Amare Stoudemire is a superstar and if you give him a Sixth Man role or Role Player then his morele goes down. He expects to start. When you view your roster, and those players that you see with their morale down, click on them and see what's bothering them when it opens the screen with their picture.

That sounds all well and good, but I think I tried that with no success. Twenty games into my second season, here are the ratings of my team players, followed by their minutes per game and roles:

PG
S. Nash 86 (-1) 39MPG Starter (I want you...)
S. Telfair 73 (-4) 10MPG Role Player (Your minutes...)
SG
J. Richardson 80 (-4) 36MPG Starter (Your position...)
J.R. Smith 75 (-6) 34MPG Starter (Your position...)
SF
D. Granger 87 (-3) 40MPG Starter (I want you...)
J. Dudley 72 (-1) 3MPG Prospect (You will...)
PF
R. Anderson 74 (-1) 4MPG Prospect (We believe...)
D.J. White 73 (-2) 3MPG Prospect (You will...)
L. Burgess 64 (-2) 2MPG Bench Warmer (We need...)
C
R. Lopez 73 (-1) 3MPG Prospect (You will...)
J. Noah 70 (-3) 30MPG Starter (You're replaceable...)
S. O'Neal 70 (-12) 36MPG Starter (I want you...)

As you can see, all players are going downhill. Any other suggestions as to how I can reverse this? If I can't, I'll have to rely on trades solely to better my team. That's no fun, as I would like to be able to develop players I already have, too.

What's your team record? They might be going down because you're playing bad. Don't trade a lot because that keeps the chemistry low and it might eventually bring the ratings down, but stick with that squad, play a couple weeks and see what happens.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I didn't realize that a low chemistry (coupled with one player's very low morale) could bring all the players' morale down. I ended up trading away O'Neal, because I couldn't give him enough minutes to bring his morale up. Then, I avoided trading for awhile until I got all the players out of the negative morale. Hopefully, sticking with the team players I have now will ultimately bring their morale into the positive.

How in the world can you have 6 starters? Or just 1 role player?

You can assign roles however you wish, but team chemistry and player morale may and will most likely suffer. I had 6 starters and two sixth men and obviously the starter who wasn't starting and the sixth man who wasn't getting sixth man minutes were complaining and their morale would drop.

I got everyone happy when I divided the roles up into 4 starters and 2 6th men.
I didn't know you were allowed to do that before. but it works.

Hi everyone ,
look i took the Miami Heat n this is my 2nd season. in the 1st season i won the nba tittle n the mvp with d.wade,
n i had most of my players happy till a certain point n they started 2 get low morals.
I kept n keep the training up for them in the 2nd season and we have a good record 22-10 i think, n i didn't make any trades i only let moon to go coz he didn't want 2 resign.
so i had Beasley on the bench in the 1st season, but now his a starter n i gave alot of minutes like a starter n his contract is extended to 3 years more he gets most of the development not only him its J.O'Neal as well 4 no reason his moral is low it says upset, his Average scoring is 18.4 pts per game n Beasley's is around 15pts per games they r both starters, n i don't know what 2 do with them they r affecting the whole team. Any solution 2 what 2 do?
most of the team's moral is good but these 2 n another 5 player like D.Wright, Jamel Magloire n James Jones, Blount and chris Quinn are havin bad morals even if gave them good minutes, n good training what can i do to improve thier moral ? and ratings

You could always go to General Manager -> Roster -> Player You Want -> Edit, and edit the ratings from there. Offensive and Defensive awareness stats increase overall ratings the most.

The players do improve by themselves. They improve too much, actually. I am now in my third season, and Chris Kaman is a 96, Eric Gordon a 94, and Al Thornton a 91. The only one I used development drills on is Thornton, to improve his rebounding, low post offense and low post defense. Eric Gordon started complaining during the first season, mostly due to his role and that his overall rating jumped up too quickly. So I had him in the low 80's after a while in his rookie season, and he complained for the whole season. I eventually started him at the 2 guard, but it still took a while to improve his morale. Any player whose role is set to Prospect will complain once their rating gets to 80. They will want a better role and more playing time.

Alot of it depends on their attitude, too. What you can do is go into the association with Hades roster editor and edit those "???" ratings for their attitude and how important their salary, "team loyalty" and "winning team" values. Set those three to zero(They are the ones that are usually only rated at 0, 25, 50, 75, or 99) and their attitudes will change to "not important." I did an experiment and set them all to 99 and the player's morale dropped alot quickly.

As for J Oneal, you need to see what he is complaining about by checking his player card.
