Offseason 2008/09

At Alejandro Viano's home...

- Hey, Alejandro! -somebody shouted from the door
- Hey, what's up Mike

Mike, and old friend of him while being the interim GM of the Phoenix Suns while Steve Kerr was dealing with a homicide charge, arrived at his home in Arizona with some news...

- Alejandro, didn't you hear the news?
- No, I'm just packing my bags, I'm moving back to Argentina in the next week.
- What? Look at this...

Mike gave a copy of a newspaper to Alejandro, it contained some NBA info...

- What's the news? That there are some GM vacancies in the league, every year the same story.
- No! you idiot, read right here.

Alejandro started reading...

"We are 2 months away from training camp, and there are NBA teams looking for the right choice to fill the GM spot that is currently vacant. Milwaukee, New York, New Jersey, Memphis and Sacramento are still interviewing candidates. For any unknown reason we don't know why nobody reached with the Argentinian Alejandro Viano, who in his 3 month tenure as the Suns' interim GM he managed some trades that later helped the Suns. He's unemployed right now after resigning on..."

- Yes... and?
- And what? Alejandro, you're going to be on the eye of somebody! You can be the next GM of any NBA team!
- Well... I will stay for one more month, let's see if something appears...

3 Days Later...

At Alejandro's home...

riiiing... riiing... - Alejandro's cellphone

- Yes, Alejandro's here
- Hi, it's Herb Kohl
- Kohl... The Bucks owner?
- Yes, the owner, Are you still unemployed?
- By now... yes... I'm looking for a job or I return to Argentina.
- Well, for that I'm calling you... for the GM spot. Are you open for the possibility?
- Yes... I think so...
- Ok, let's arrange an interview, next Friday, 5pm in my office.
- Ok, I'm taking the plane, I call you when I arrive in Milwaukee.
- See you, good luck

2 Hours later...

- the cellphone rings again...

- Hello... Alejandro Viano's there?
- Yess... I'm talking to...
- Joe Maloof, Kings Owner
- Hi... in what can I help you?
- We have vacant the position for the GM spot... I me and my brother would like to interview you for the spot... Do you accept our proposal?
- Sure, I have another interview on Friday, let's do it on Saturday?
- No problem, We are in Sacramento until Monday night, so we can have dinner and talk about it.
- Allright, so... I call you when I'm in Sacramento
- Ok, I'm waiting you phone call, see you Alejandro

On The Next Day...

somebody knocks the door at Alejandro's House...

- Who is?
- It's Michael Heasly,
- Michael who?
- Heasly... I come from Memphis... I'm the owner of the Grizzlies
- Oh... sorry I never heard about you, come in come in

In the living room...

- So... ask Alejandro... In what can I help you sir?
- I saw your job in Phoenix, you don't hesitate to pull a trade and the trades you made were pretty convincent for a young man. You know what a team needs. And the Grizz are needing somebody with that character
- So... you're offering me to work in the team?
- Yes, I'm want to offer you the position of GM
- Woow... Nice, i like it
- Would you like to have an interview?
- Why don't we start right now
- I like you attitude Mr. Viano... Let's talk about the job...

It should work out. In my associations I've never signed Livingston, but he always became a pretty decent player over time on whatever team that picked him up. If you're going to train him properly, he could become a very good second option in NBA 2K9.

Alejandro Viano is the GM of the Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies announced early in the morning that the Argentinian Alejandro Viano is the new GM.
Viano had a brief moment as the Suns' GM when Steve Kerr was involved in a home shooting and took a leave of absence. He pulled some trades (brought Jannero Pargo and a second rounder for almost nothing) that going into the season were pretty important.

Owner Michael Heasley said in the press conference:

- The Memphis Organization is proud to name Alejandro Viano the new GM of the Grizzlies. We need a new direction, a new mentallity and energy, and we think Alejandro brings a lot of this to the team. We're looking forward to work together so make the Grizz a playoff contender

Later, GM Viano said that there would be some changes in the roster and the coaching staff. He didn't give any name yet. We will see these days.

GM Viano fires Iavaroni... Names Ruben Magnano headcoach

Image

Recently named Memphis GM, Alejandro Viano pulled is first great move. He sacked Mike Iavaroni from the coaching duties and named his countrymen and widely recognised coach Ruben Magnano the next coach of the Grizzlies. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Magnano, 55, is known for coaching the Argentinian National team to a second place in Indianapolis 2002 and the gold medal in Athens 2004. But everybody knows him for being the coach of the team who beat for the very first time a USA team with NBA players. They beat them in 2002 and again in the semifinals in Athens 2004, where by the USA were Tim Duncan and Allen Iverson.

He was born in Villa Maria, Cordoba and was raised in Oncativo, the same town where Alejandro Viano lived is chilhood.

GM Viano announced that the shakeup is not done... yet

Memphis trades for Morrison and Gooden, Signs Livingston

ImageImageImage

The Grizzlies waste no time rebuilding. GM Viano pulled two trades:

- Memphis trades PG Steve Francis to Charlotte for F Adam Morrison.

Analysis:
Memphis got rid from the negative influence of Francis and get a prospect who is yet to explode. Morrison, coming from a season ending knee injury comes to Memphis without task to carry the scoring load as he received in Charlotte. He will sure come from the bench to replace Rudy Gay and rookie O.J. Mayo.
Charlotte gets Francis but we don't know why. They are thin in PG but Francis isn't the best option. He isn't a good locker room influence but maybe with Larry Brown he can change.

Grade:
Memphis: B
Charlotte: D-

- Memphis trade G Marko Jaric to the Bulls for FC Drew Gooden

Analysis:
With the trade for Morrison, the Grizz have a logjam at the 2-3 position. And Jaric with a 7M contract for 3 more years must be moved. But who will receive him? Unbelievebly the Bulls acepted him for Gooden, who will fill in from the bench for Milicic and Warrick. Gooden is in his last year, with a $7M contract.
The Bulls made a horrible trade. They have a lot of G, GF and they traded for another one. Now they're thin at forward and center. A very bad trade. A lopsided one

Memphis: A
Chicago: F

In another move, the Grizz signed PG Shaun Livingston to a contract. Terms were not disclosed.

Yes... I still don't believe that I got Gooden... I was lookin for a good backup to Milicic and Warrick, Marc Gasol needs to develope so i prefer to use Gooden and I don't like Darrel Arthur, don't ask why.

I have two good point guards, Mike Conley and Livingston. Both aren't good shooters, both have good passing abilityes and are good defenders... I will see how I can use Livingston and raise his potential.. I guess he will have numbers like 15 - 10 and 5 (due to his height).
I hope to develope Milicic... I'm talking seriously :D

Conley arrives late at team meeting, got benched by coach Magnano

With just 2 days off the start of the season, Ruben Magnano shaked up the starting lineup.
Mike Conley, the starting point guard, arrived 90 minutes late to a team meeting, and the coach punished him, he will come of the bench on the season opener. He didn't name who will start but it is rumored that Shaun Livingston will get the nod. He showed good skills in training camp and his knee looks healthy.

New Look Grizzlies run over Washington in Ruben Magnano's Debut

In the Clippers organization, they must be speechless... Because Shaun Livingston was given the starting nod and he scored his first 20-20 of his career with 22 points and a franchise high 25 assists along with 5 steals to rout the Wizards 126-104.

Magnano's style showed a fast-balanced attack where 6 players scored 11 or more points. O.J Mayo led with 24, Gay scored 18 and Milicic 16.
The Wizards never found and answer to the Grizzlies attack, they were led by Antawn Jamison with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists. Arenas scored 24 along with 11 assists but it wasn't enough to win.

Free Throws:

* This was Shaun Livingston's first game returning from that gruesome injury 18 months ago. He shot 10-12 FG and had just 1 TO
* The Grizz bench stepped up, scoring 35 points, led by Gasol's 12
* The Grizz shot an awesome 62% from the field (59-94), a franchise record

NEXT: @ Dallas

Livingston blew up, good to see him blowing up.

And why in the world is Arthur 12th in the roto. Arthur is a beast and deserves better, lol. trade him away so he can get playing time. Darko and Tone getting more playing time than him? Shits redundant. But me being a Morrison fan I love seeing you trade for him and giving him a chance off the bench. Good luck with this one and you got a reader in me :D
