Trail Blazers Acquire Veteran Forward
Portland, OR - Just a few days after getting controversial star Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings, the Houston Rockets shipped veteran leader Shane Battier to Portland for forwards Ike Digou and Travis Outlaw. "He is another high character guy who fits right into our starting line up. He is a player who can defend multiple positions and will help us spread the floor with his three point shooting".
He will join an up and coming team that finished with a 42-42 record last season but promises to be even better with the aditions of rookies Greg Oden, Rudy Fernandez and Jerryd Bayless. "I saw it coming as soon as I heard we had traded for Artest. I'm quite happy to go to a young team with so much talent," said Battier.
The Rockets were able to open up minutes for Artest, who is notorious for not liking to share his minutes. In Outlaw they got a young player who will come off the bench and give an energy boost to Houston's second unit.

Alridge and Trail Blazers Spoil Thunder's debut
Oklahoma City, OK - The fans sold out the arena and cheered their brand new team, The Oklahoma City Thunder*, but to no avail. Portland's PF LaMarcus Alridge picked up where he left off last season and lead the Trail Blazers with 20 pts and 16 boards.

Also making their debuts in this game were four rookies. The Thunder's PG Russel Westbrook was 3-10 from the field but ended up with a nice all around game notching 9 assists and 5 rebounds. "I wasn't really that nervous, maybe because I was going against Jerryd. We have known each other for a while and I guess that helped me. In the end, though, I wish we could have won," said Westbrook.

The no.1 pick in last years draft, Greg Oden, could hardly hide his nervosism when he missed an open dunk midway through the second quarter. After the game he said, "I have no good answer to why I missed it. It just happens. Coach Mcmillan told me not to worry about it and to focus on my defense and that's what I did.

Reigning rookie of the year Kevind Durant had a rough night guarded by the newly arrived Shane Battier for most of the game. "He's one of the best defenders in the league, but I had my chances," said Durant, who shot 9-21 from the field.

The game was close throughout with teams tied at 61 after 3 quarters, but when Alridge scored on a perfect pick and roll to make it 84-78 with a minute to go OKC's coach PJ Carlesino resorted to intentional fouling the Blazers. Brandon Roy and Martell Webster iced it making 5 out of 6 from the line.

Next up for the Blazers are the Warriors, once again on the road, before their home opening versus Al Jefferson and the Timberwolves.

Man, I'm just happy that we've won our first game. Actually, I might have been happy even if we'd lost cuz I finally got to play!! Have you guys any idea how much time is a year without basketball? I played that streegame one time, you say? Dude, shush, people here had already forgotten about it... no need to get told off twice, if you know what I mean ;)

Anyway, back to the game, we had a tough start and trailed 15-6 in the first minutes. We finally got it together but man, I have to tell you about the second quarter, although you probably have already seen it on sportscenter. Imagine being 7 foot tall and missing a dunk. Now imagine doing it in an arena with 18.000 crazy fans from the opposite team booing you. Yeah, that's how I felt, smaller than earl boykins.

You know what makes me feel better though? Thinking about that time when Yao Ming got blocked by Nate Robinson. It makes me smile everytime :)

gotta go now, take care

New Look Warriors Not Enough for Portland
San Francisco, CA -

Trail Blazers Win Home Opener: 3 in a Row!
Portland, OR - LaMarcus Alridge had 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Trail Blazers to their third win in a row. Portland used its size advantage to dominate the boards (49-35) and to harrass Minnesota's big men into 1-14 shooting. "We never had anything clicking," said Al Jefferson. "I tried to be aggressive but our shots never began to fall," said the Timberwolves center who had 8 points and 13 boards.

These teams seem to be headed to opposite directions. While the Timberwolves find themselves staring at a 0-2 hole to follow a season where they only won 22 games, Portland rides a three game winning streak and is red hot after finishing even at 41 and a would be playoff spot in the Leastern Conference.

Ater the game coach Nate Mcmillan had this to offer, "we're happy to get the W but it's the coaching staff's job to have everyone on the same page as far as taking it one game at a time. This is a very long season and we've barely taken the first step."

Davis hits Game Winner, Saves the Day
Los Angeles, CA - New Clippers point guard Baron Davis had only one field goal for the entire game, but he made the most of it. With 5 seconds to go and the game tied at 95, he drove left and elevated for a 12 foot jumper. Despite having Brandon Roy's hand on his face he hit nothing but net. The crowd at Staples Center went wild as Shane Battier called a desperation time out but Brandon Roy wasn't able to convert on a long three point.

Blazers big men LaMarcus Alridge had just the second 20-20 game of his carrer but it was all for nothing, "I never look at my stats, they don't matter, even more so when we don't win," said the NBA leading rebound man (14.5 rpg). "They shot the lights out tonight and in the end we couldn't keep up. We did a pretty good job of containing Baron [Davis] for most of the night but basketball is a game of details and the one time he had an opening he sunk us in."

Leading the pack for the Clippers was Rick Davis with 19 points. Los Angeles also got 18 points from both Marcus Camby and Cutino Mobley, who did most of his damage during the fourth quarter."

Marcus Camby Postgame Interview
ESPN: So far how are you adjusting to playing with fellow 7 footer Chris Kaman? There were concerns before the season that you would have problems meshing together.
Marcus Camby: Man, this is media stuff, we've gelled great since day one. Playing next to him actually makes things easier for me. Like, back in Denver I was the only one playing any defense but here with him I know I'm not the last line of defense and that allows me to take more chances.

ESPN: Tonight you displayed some offensive skills (18 pts, 9-11) that rarely showed its face in Denver. What has changed?
MC: Again, if you play with another great rebounder next to you, it makes things easier. I was able to crash the offensive boards hard and came away with some easy second chance points.

ESPN: What about Los Angeles, it must have been quite a change from playing in Colorado?
MC: What?! Man, I used to play in New York, after living there you can get along anywhere. I really like the weather here.

ESPN: How far do you think the Clippers (2-1) can go this year? Are you talking playoffs already?
MC: We're playoff material for sure but this conference is so tough. I can see us there, though, we just have to play hard and stay healthy.

West Champs Too Much for the Blazers
Portland, OR - Kobe Bryant, fresh off winning a gold medal at the summer Olympics in Beijing, was unstoppable against the Trail Blazers. "He was amazing tonight, they simply had no answer for him. Not only he attacked the basket but also got his teammates involved," said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. Bryant scored 32 points in 14 of 26 shooting and also added 6 assists while having 0 turnovers.
The Blazers tried to give Bryant different looks by putting Roy, Battier, Blake and even Webster on him at different times but for most of the game it seemed as if Bryant was wide open as he kept making shot over his defenders or driving to the basket at will.
Once again Portland PF LaMarcus Alridge shined with 29 pts and 12 rebounds, but the final score doesn't really reflect how easy the game was for the lakers as both teams played with their subs in the waining minutes of the game.

Notes: Guards Petri Kaponen and Sergio Rodriguez got their first minutes of the season... C Joel Prizbilla missed his second straight game with a heavily sprained laft ankle... Vladmir Radmanovic and Raef Lafrentz were the only players who saw action not to score

Yeah, he couldn't hit a shoot to save his life... he did chip in with 3 boards and 4 assistis though. Rookies have a lot of up and down games, I guess :)

Thanks for the comment!

I'd say rookie guards have a lot of up and down games. I've been starting 2 rookies in my dynasty, Darrell Arthur at PF and OJ Mayo at SG. Arthur has about 14-20 points or more and 8+ boards a game. Mayo, on the other hand, scored 39 in the first game of the season, has only scored over 30 one other time, and typically scores below 20 because he can't shoot worth a damn. He also misses layups and dunks with regularity too. Oh well.

Not a bad dynasty though. I'll keep following.

It's looking good so far, Ricardo. I'd be curious to see what you mean by new look Warriors and why they're in San Francisco. Is this a nuance of your storyline?
