Trail Blazers Acquire Veteran Forward
Portland, OR - Just a few days after getting controversial star Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings, the Houston Rockets shipped veteran leader Shane Battier to Portland for forwards Ike Digou and Travis Outlaw. "He is another high character guy who fits right into our starting line up. He is a player who can defend multiple positions and will help us spread the floor with his three point shooting".
He will join an up and coming team that finished with a 42-42 record last season but promises to be even better with the aditions of rookies Greg Oden, Rudy Fernandez and Jerryd Bayless. "I saw it coming as soon as I heard we had traded for Artest. I'm quite happy to go to a young team with so much talent," said Battier.
The Rockets were able to open up minutes for Artest, who is notorious for not liking to share his minutes. In Outlaw they got a young player who will come off the bench and give an energy boost to Houston's second unit.

Alridge and Trail Blazers Spoil Thunder's debut
Oklahoma City, OK - The fans sold out the arena and cheered their brand new team, The Oklahoma City Thunder*, but to no avail. Portland's PF LaMarcus Alridge picked up where he left off last season and lead the Trail Blazers with 20 pts and 16 boards.
Also making their debuts in this game were four rookies. The Thunder's PG Russel Westbrook was 3-10 from the field but ended up with a nice all around game notching 9 assists and 5 rebounds. "I wasn't really that nervous, maybe because I was going against Jerryd. We have known each other for a while and I guess that helped me. In the end, though, I wish we could have won," said Westbrook.
The no.1 pick in last years draft, Greg Oden, could hardly hide his nervosism when he missed an open dunk midway through the second quarter. After the game he said, "I have no good answer to why I missed it. It just happens. Coach Mcmillan told me not to worry about it and to focus on my defense and that's what I did.
Reigning rookie of the year Kevind Durant had a rough night guarded by the newly arrived Shane Battier for most of the game. "He's one of the best defenders in the league, but I had my chances," said Durant, who shot 9-21 from the field.
The game was close throughout with teams tied at 61 after 3 quarters, but when Alridge scored on a perfect pick and roll to make it 84-78 with a minute to go OKC's coach PJ Carlesino resorted to intentional fouling the Blazers. Brandon Roy and Martell Webster iced it making 5 out of 6 from the line.
Next up for the Blazers are the Warriors, once again on the road, before their home opening versus Al Jefferson and the Timberwolves.

Man, I'm just happy that we've won our first game. Actually, I might have been happy even if we'd lost cuz I finally got to play!! Have you guys any idea how much time is a year without basketball? I played that streegame one time, you say? Dude, shush, people here had already forgotten about it... no need to get told off twice, if you know what I mean

Anyway, back to the game, we had a tough start and trailed 15-6 in the first minutes. We finally got it together but man, I have to tell you about the second quarter, although you probably have already seen it on sportscenter. Imagine being 7 foot tall and missing a dunk. Now imagine doing it in an arena with 18.000 crazy fans from the opposite team booing you. Yeah, that's how I felt, smaller than earl boykins.
You know what makes me feel better though? Thinking about that time when Yao Ming got blocked by Nate Robinson. It makes me smile everytime

gotta go now, take care
