NBA.com News

Big story: just now, David Stern announced, due to the Tim Donaghy scandal and various claims about the NBA being fixed, he, along with the agreements from all the 30 team owners, that the nba would be completely shuffled, all teams restart from scratch (history is kept...) refs rehired, staff rehired..etc

The Chicago Tribune

John Paxson comments on Shuffle of League and future of the Bulls
"I welcome this opportunity for the league to come to a fresh start, it is sad to say goodbye to the players and staff that we have worked with for the last few, or many years, but in another way, it is a good thing for the Bulls organization to be redeemed"
So says the man..we'll see how things work out

Following What was known as the Fantasy Draft, John Paxson went on the market and hired 5 new staff members to work for the Bulls.
Paxson announced in the press conference that he expects that the staff members, along with the new players, would lead Chicago to their 7th title, and possibly another 3-peat.

a few hours afterwards John Paxson commented on the lineups, and gave the following comment - "yes i am aware of the concerns about not having enough big guys and being overloaded with smalls, we would be considering some moves early in the season, but we'll have to wait and see how they do in the summer league first"

2007-2008 NBA Summer League

Schedule: 29 games (season mode)

Day 1:
MIL@LAC 86-76
MIN@NJ 106-93
SEA@PHI 99-107
DAL@CHI 143-127
PHO@TOR 90-99

Player of the Day: Dirk Nowitzki of the 76ers -38 pts, 15 reb, 14 ast, 2stl, 4 turnovers, 4 fouls. 17-32

Dallas wipes out Chicago in the United Center with a 143-127 blowout

The opening of the summer league didnt go so well for the Bulls, not even when they had homecourt advantage.
Lebron James and Deron Williams played the best for the bulls, scoring 23 and 22 respectively, but deron was taken out in the 3rd, twisting his thumb on the way to the rim, he would come back in the 4th quarter sparking a run to pull the bulls close, but Dallas, led by Agent Zero and R.Wallace, took off again and left Chicago behind.

Box Score Chicago
Box Score Dallas
Key Players at the Half
Player of the Game
Wallace Slams
Sean Williams with the block
King James Slams
King James Slams Again
Deron's 3 after injury
Agent Zero in traffic

Deron Williams would not be playing until his injury is 100% healed, as a precaution.

John Paxson, after the game, commented on the fact that they do not have an interior game, and communication between teammembers were not as good as what he'd hoped to have.
"i mean, you look at the guys, they just got together as a whole new team, been together for a week or so at the pre summer league training camp, you dont really expect them to communicate well, along with the fact that we do not have enough big guys down low, both our defenses and offenses are going to suffer, but i expect them to play better as the summer league goes on"

Lebron's 44 not enough to lead Chicago Past Washington

The lack of inside presence became evident in the game against the Wizards for the Bulls as Chris Bosh, the starting center for the Washington Wizards, went on a rampage and scored a game high 46 points against the Bulls, Lebron scored 44, but it wasnt enough.
The Bulls started slow, going 21-24 in the first, they then came out strong and ended the 2nd quarter with a big lead, and cont to stretch that lead till the middle of the 3rd, but then somehow the Wizards, led by Chris Bosh, managed to climb back, went on a 18-0 run, and came back from behind.
the 4th quarter marked many quick scoring actions, but in the end, the Bulls could not come up with the win as Chris Paul misses the deep 3 pointer at the buzzer.
Deron Williams didnt play tonight due to a twisted thumb, it has healed dramatically and it wasnt a big injury to begin with, but the Bulls management had stated that they "would like to be careful with these things", Sharpshooter Kyle Korver started in place of Deron, and did a nice job, especially in the first, where he scored 8 of his 19 points, he went 7 of 10 from the field, including three 3 pointers from 3 of 5 shooting. The other noteworthy Bull was Yi Jianlian, who scored 15 points and grabbed 6 boards from the bench, he was named player of the half for the bulls.

For the Wizards, Chris Bosh led the way with 46 points and 6 rebounds, while Tinsley, who was named the Player of the Game, scored 28 and had 14 assists. The other noteworthy player was the former Bull Luol Deng, who had a spectacular first half, he was named the player of the half for the Wizards, and ended the game with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and also a game high 5 steals.

after the game we asked John Paxson on his thoughts, he simply replied
"Yes, after this game we would be actively seeking some big guys to help the team, whether it is by trade or from the FA pool, our interior game is simply not enough right now."

Team Effort Outshines Redd's 45

Final Score: Chi 120 - 106 Sea

Michael Redd of the Sonics exploded for 45 points in the Chicago - Seattle Summer League Match, but it wasnt enough to contain the Chicago Bulls, who played as a unit, sharing the ball and getting open looks.

The Bulls shot 65% from the field and 50% from the arc, led by Lebron's 29 and Kyle Korver's 23, they had 6 players scoring in double digits and all but one scoring some points.

Deron Williams did not play tonight's game again, but the coaching staff of the bulls said that he would play in the next game, which happen to be the final game of the summer league, and the only road game for Chicago.

The most notable player for the bulls in tonight's game was Kyle Korver, who scored 7 of the bulls' first 10 points, and also 15 of his 23 points in the first half, and was named one of the Key Players of the Half, starting in place of the injured Deron Williams at the Shooting Guard spot in the last two games, Korver has had solid performances, and is now a serious contender for the sixth man spot, or even as a member of the starting five.

for the Sonics, rookie Al Horford scored 12 and grabbed 8 boards, and former Bull Kirk Hinrich had some flashy plays, but was held down to just 8 points, 4 of 15 shooting, this was due to the major blocking games that Emeka and Yi had, each blocked 3 times in this game. Kirk also had some nice dishes, but winded up getting only 2 assists due to Chicago's defense.

Yi's Clutch Performance Leads Chicago Past Detroit

Everything seemed lost for Chicago late in the 4th Quarter, when they were down by 8 points, with less then 2 minutes to go. It was then, that Former Head Coach of the Chicago Bulls, their current Summer League HC, decided to call a timeout and send Power Forward Yi Jianlian out on the floor to get 2 more minutes of playing time...that decision gave the Bulls the victory.

Yi, who had nothing except for 3 fouls in the 7 minutes that he played, stepped on the floor, and just as all the Detroit Fans thought that even the coach of the Bulls had given up, that they had won, Yi proved them wrong.

in just 2 minutes, he scored 9 points, had one steal, and grabbed 4 boards off the Piston's missed shots, his 9 points included a 3 point play, and also included his game winning steal and layup.

after the game, Detroit Star Tim Duncan, who had an amazing game himself with 61 points and 16 rebounds, commented on the last 2 minutes of the game to be "just absolutely amazing", "he was playing as though he was possessed, even; that was how good he was, we couldnt stop him, no body can stop him; and when you are against an opponent that had caught fire, just like how Yi did, there is nothing you can do"

the other Bull that had a big part in tonight's victory was Deron Williams, who had just recovered from his minor injury, he came in and scored 35 points, leading the bulls in scoring, he also had a game high 4 steals.

after the game, GM John Paxson was asked on how he thought the team did, after a not so impressive 2-2 performances in the Summer League.

"well, i think they did allright, we do have some issues with having too many small guys and not enough bigs..but its alright, we still have the regular training camp coming up, we'll figure the roster out as we go"

Lebron, Stuckey Number Changes?

Rumors have began around the league that Lebron James, and Rodney Stuckey, are about to change their Jersey Numbers as they are retired.

Lebron currently wears number 23, which, as we all know, belonged to a somebody that goes by the name of Michael Jordan, the greatest player to play the game. While Rodney Stuckey goes with the number 4, worn by Jerry Sloan, the current head coach of the Utah Jazz.

The question out there is, if indeed King James needs to switch, what number would he switch to? would he move up a number and wear 24 like Kobe? or would he wear the Other Number that Michael Jordan had worn, the number 45.

More on this would be coming soon.
