Seattle Sonics in Phoenix (Game 1 - October 31st)

O'Neal - THE UNSTOPPABLE

First game for Seattle Sonics. A bit nervous start. Phoenix took the lead immediatly.
"We just couldn't keep up! The injuries were killing us tonight!" - said the new GM of Seattle.
Wilcox got injured for the rest of the game.
Image
It wasn't so bad because Marshall really had a good game but however Marshall got injured too. And when he came back, he had lost the spark. Luckily none of the injuries were serious.
Image
By the time Shaq had fireworks! Dunking, blocking, rebounding! Not Collison, not Wilcox, not Marshall, not Petro, not Swift, not Elson could stop him. He was unstoppable. So he earned the games MVP title.
Image
"We stopped Nash but it's not a big consolation." - GM of Sonics told us.
Really! All what Nash made was the first three-pointer in the game! He really had a nightmare.
Bell did a nice job in scoring. It was a while while Seattle could think something how to contain Bell.
Amare wasn't himself today also. Looked like Sonics did their homework and managed to cover Nash and Amare but forgot about Shaq.
Durant had a good first game. Team-mates gave him the ball. It paid off.
Image
He scored 24 points (3/6 from downtown). However GM was a bit surprised by another player.
"Well Jeff (Green) had a really good game! His high percentage shooting is really outstanding! It gave me some things to think over. Because putting him as a starter not Donyell, was a hard decision for me. But it paid off! " - smiled the coach.
Green had 17 points 8/11 field goal shooting.
Image
"Well we had hope in the half 'cause we were loosing only by 4, but you saw what happened! The third quarter... We never could "stand up" again! " - said the coach.
Terrible ball handling skills resulted in ton of turnovers. (9 for PHX and 24 for STL)
Here is the boxscore:

Is that original Suns court? Nice start, only bad loss, well they were stronger anyway. Good to see another 05´er. At least Durant had good game. Good luck!

Looks like a nice dynasty.
I think your percentages from the perimeter and foul line are what hurt you the most.
I like Green, I think he has the potential to become an all-star.

- Are you happy about tonights win?

PHX - Yes! We are very happy! Shaq had a great game but we'd like to see more from our leaders. I think that Steve (Nash) was a bit nervous 'cause it was the season opener. Amare wasn't so huge as I hopped but he did a good job on defense.

- What was the reason for tonights loss?
STL - Definetly the turovers. We have a young team. They haven't played together much. We tried to put our game through Kevin (Durant) but as you saw he isn't quite in the NBA form.

- Injuries?

STL - Well we didn't want Chris to take a serious one in the start of the season so he didn't play much. Marshall's injury wasn't so serious and he wanted to play. So we gave him a chance. Team doctors said that none of these injuries are serious so I think they will play against Clippers in LA.

PHX - Wilcox is a really great player. Maybe he could stop Shaq. Marshall is more like a third number for his team. He wasn't big enough to stop Shaq.

- O'Neal's game?

PHX - Well he had a great game! Just like the old times when he played in LA.

STL - He was terrific! I can see that my big guys aren't so strong to contain him. We will work on it.

- Kevin Durant in his first game?

STL - We moved our game through him. He had a good night. I am satisfied with his game. He just needs to get a bit stronger for NBA.

PHX - I see a great future for this guy. He will only progress.

- Bell factor?

PHX - In the training camp we talked a bit about his game. He is still improving. So I hope he will keep it up.

STL - Kevin and Damien are young. Bell has a lot of NBA expieriance. So they couldn't contain him.

- Another rookie - Jeff Green?

STL - He was good. Had a really nice game. Needs to work on his shots from the line but he will be good.

PHX - Nice guy! He always finds open shots! I would like to see that guy on my team!

Sonics vs Clippers (Game 2 - November 2nd)

Mobley - The New Leader?

Sonics came out ready to fight. A really close game between the two.
"It wasn't luck. We just are better!" said coach of LA Clippers.
However 6 points aren't much of a deposit.
Game started with Seattle controlling the game. It was nice to see Wilcox back strong.
"I just hurt my arm a bit last game. Nothing huge. I feel fine and the doc told me that I can play. So.. here I am!" said Chris Wilcox.
A nice game for Wilcox still couldn't steal the win from LA. Mobley was huge.
Image
Brand and Maggette both scoring 17 points.
Image
Livingston for 14. And the MVP of the game goes to... not Mobley? NO! Chris Kaman who was huge tonight on the defensive end. 7(!) times blocking the opponent. He was perfect from field and the free-throw line. Also took 11 boards.
"It was a team effort!" Kaman said after the game.
"I was just doing my job. Keeping the boards clean!"
So what about Seattle? Durant didn't have the best game. Only 5/21 from the field. Green still showed that he is good again scoring with high percentage (19 pts 7/13 FG). Also corralled 8 rebounds.
"Well in future I think he is a possible triple-double player!" said the GM.
Again. All was said in the third quarter.
"We tried to comeback! However it was too late." said Durant.
Chris Wilcox sparked today with some explosive dunks.

Looks like he is getting in form and the last game injury is just a memory.

Next Game: November 4th in Seattle against NO Hornets

- What was the reason for tonights win?

LAC - A good defensive play and definetely team play. We're a team and still improving.

- 6 point deposit. Not a huge one. Why did you lose?

STL - Well... There are many factors. We just couldn't make our shots when we needed to. Durant is more an offensive guard. We couldn't contain our opponents.

- Cutino Mobley - the new star?

LAC - He can make his shots. It was just his game.

STL - I would say it's just his experience which let him score. I don't think he's a superstar player. He was just playing. And playing good.

- Chris Kaman?

LAC - Yes. He's a hard worker. One of the top new centers in the league. He is working hard in the training and in the games and has improved through the summer.

STL - His defensive effort was huge today. My players just couldn't get past him.

- And again Kevin Durant!

STL - We were still playing on him. He can do better. He is staying after the training and working individual. Maybe he was to tired. That you need ask to him!

- Chris Wilcox injury?

STL - Well it wasn't serious. Doctors let him play so he's ok. You can see it in his game. Still athletic. Dunking, rebounding. Maybe could use some work in the defensive end. But today he sparked up. Really got the crowd with his dunks.

LAC - He was a factor in this game. We heard about the injury. We didn't quite plan that he will be so game-ready.

- And finally - Jeff Green.

STL - Oh yes! He's improving. As we saw he can rebound and pass. I still think he's a superstar material. Scoring 19 points is a factor for a rookie. He will be great.
