Getting ready for the 07-08 Season

Following a Cinderella run in the Playoffs last season with an upset against a 67 win Dallas Maverick team in the first round, the Golden State Warriors hope to return some of that success this coming season. With all the key pieces of last year's historical run returning with the exception of Richardson, and the addition of 2 rookies Brandan Wright and Marco Belinelli, and a new assistant GM, the Warriors hope to make a serious run this post season.

"This is our year." Davis said. "Last season we were crazy after the trade. Yea I think we had the 2nd best record in 2007 after the Spurs, and they're the Champs."

Training Camp underway

Image

With training camp in just days, different Warriors have different preparations. Monta Ellis has been constantly going to the gym working on his jumpshot.

"My short and mid-range shots are ok, it's just my 3, but it's getting there." said Ellis after his 3rd shooting session of the day.

"He makes 5 in a row from each spot before changing to a new one." says newly hired, legendary assistant coach Leif Gillis. "Baseline jumpers, 15 footers, he's got them. It's just the 3. He has good work ethic and I see a lot of potential in this kid."

Warriors getting ready season opener at Detroit

"The season is finally here." said co-captain Stephen Jackson pre-game. "There are haters out there thinking that last season was a fluke. And we're here to prove them wrong. We've practiced a lot during offseason as a team. We've all been keeping in shape and we've been working on our defense."

Pistons captain Chauncey Billups was injured in their 102-92 win over the New Jersey Nets. he will not be playing against the Warriors. Lindsey Hunter is expected to be starting.

Hamilton hits huge 3 as Detroit escape with the win

Image
Al Harrington converts for 2 of his 20 points on an alley oop pass from Stephen Jackson

With Davis out with early foul trouble, Monta took over for the majority of the 2nd and 3rd quarter. The Warriors had a comfortable 6 point lead midway into the 4th quarter but Detroit went on a 10-1 fueled by back to back Detroit 3s from Lindsey Hunter and Richard Hamilton to take a 3 point lead.

Baron raced upcourt and calmly nailed a 3 to tie the game at 89-89. Both teams traded buckets and stops as well before Monta Ellis lost the ball with 24.2 seconds left on the clock. With their main floor general out Richard Hamilton calmly dribbled the clock out before pulling up and hitting an improbable 3 over a Monta Ellis and Baron Davis double team. With 1.7 left, Don Nelson called a timeout as Jackson inbounded from midcourt. Baron raced to the ball using screens set by Biedrins and Al Harrington, turned and shot as he and the rest of the Golden State Warriors could only watch as the ball hit the back of the rim and bounced onto the floor.

Monta Ellis had an excellent all-around performance with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Al Harrington, Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus combined for 21 for 24 from the field. The Warriors only converted on 3 of 10 free throws. Andris Biedrins had all 7 of Golden State's blocked shots.

"We were doing a lot of things well but we couldn't hit the free throws. That really hurt us." Don Nelson commented in a post game interview.

IM2FLASHY - Thanks. Yea it was pretty tough. I'm still pretty new to playing Live 06 and I think gameplay wise it's better than 07 and 08. I'm finding free throw shooting to be pretty hard but hopefully I'll get better.

Getting ready for the home opener

After recovering from a tough loss against last year's Eastern Conference Finalist in the season opener, the Warriors look to open up at home with a win.

"We nearly had that game. It was just free throw shooting that killed us, otherwise we would've won." says head coach Don Nelson in a pre-game interview.

Don Nelson also plans to test some of the other players on the roster as he only used 8 players in last night's match.

The Blazers are 1-2 early in the season. The young team is led by this year's projected rookie of the year Greg Oden and last year's rookie of the year Brandon Roy.

Hmm, I definitely like the simple but polished presentation here. Maybe a couple more ingame pics would be nice but apart from that, it's a good start.

Captain Jack erupts for Warriors first win of the season

Image

It was all Stephen Jackson last night as he led the Warriors to their first win of the season. Stephen Jackson had 28 point on 11-15 shooting, knocking down 5 3 pointers in the game with 3 in the 4th quarter. Baron Davis added 19, dished out 8 assists, recorded 6 steals and 2 highlight reel dunks.

Image

"We were in control for most of the game, but it was in the 4th quarter when we started to pull away. The Cap'n came up big tonight" Matt Barnes said. Barnes scored 7 points and ripped down 5 rebounds.

"The Warriors played excellent tonight, I couldn't knock down any shots that I should've shot." said Blazers guard Steve Blake. Steve Blake had 35 shot attempts but could only convert on 7 of them.

Image

"A lot of things went well tonight. We got a look at most of our young guys and they were all exceptional, especially Patrick [O'Bryant]." said Don Nelson. Patrick O'Bryant filled in for Andris Biedrins after 2 early fouls and grabbed down 5 of his 7 rebounds in a small 5 minute stretch in the 1st quarter. He also made all 5 of his field goal attempts. Brandan Wright and Marco Belinelli both made their rookie debuts. Brandan Wright recorded 4 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist while Marco Belinelli dished out his only assist to a running Brandan Wright for an alley oop.

The Warriors will play the second of their back-to-back game against the Knicks at home tomorrow night.

Davis forces overtime, Warriors not able to pull out win

Image

Baron Davis made a tough jump shot over Stephon Marbury in the closing seconds of the game but the Warriors were unable to pull out the win in overtime off a missed shot from rookie Brandon Wright which could have forced a second overtime.

The Warriors blew a 10 point lead midway through the 4th quarter, with Al Harrington fouling out with just under 2 minutes to play. Patrick O'Bryant got called for a reach in foul with 4.1 seconds to play on Jamal Crawford as Crawford calmly hit 2 free throws to put the Knicks up 2.

Don Nelson called time out as Baron Davis caught the inbound pass from midcourt, faked to the right before pulling up for a tough jumpshot over Stephon Marbury at the top of the key to force overtime.

Image

With Al Harrington out of the game, rookie Brandan Wright filled in at the Power Forward position. He did not disappoint, scoring 12 of his 20 points in overtime but missed the shot that cost the game in the closing seconds of the game. Wright finished the game with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

With this close win, the Knicks managed to capture their first win of the season after dropping the first 2 games.

Mickael Pietrus was injured early in the first quarter with a leg injury and was cleared to play but Don Nelson decided not to play him.

Baron's 42 points and gamewinner lifts Warriors to win in OT

Image

After starting out the season quite quiet, Baron Davis exploded for 42 points, including 2 clutch shots. Baron Davis drove with 12 seconds left with the Warriors down 2 and did a tough circus shot and the whistle blew. Davis missed the free throw that would have given the Warriors the name as they watched Ray Allen who missed a long 3.

In overtime with the game tied at 120 and 12.1 seconds left, the ball was inbounded it to Davis who threw it up to Barnes who got trapped in a double team. He quickly tossed it to Monta who faked a shot and passed it to an open Davis who spotted up for a long 3 and hit the gamewinning shot with exactly 1 second to play. With the Celtics inbounding from midcourt, Monta Ellis knocked the ball loose as the Golden State Warriors gave the Celtics their first loss of the season.

Monta Ellis was only 2 for 14 from the field. The Warriors struggled from the line yet again, converting on only 33% of free throws.

4 players on the Celtics scored 20+ points with Davis' good friend Paul Pierce leading the way with 27.

With a win, the Warriors are now 2-2 and the Celtics have their first loss of the season at 3-1.

Image

Rookie Brandan Wright came off the bench to score 14 points when Al Harrington fouled out again in overtime.

Warriors trade for Leon Powe

In a small trade yesterday, the Golden State Warriors sent center Kosta Perovic to the Boston Celtics for Leon Powe. Powe spent his whole life in California, he was born in Oakland, went to High School in Oakland and didn't go to College very far away as he attended the University of California: Berkeley where he played for the Golden Bears, averaging 20.5 PPG and 10.1 RPG in his freshman year.

Leon Powe will be well liked by the fans, where many were disappointed when the Warriors picked Kosta Perovic over Powe in the draft.

"I'm excited too. I grew up in the Bay Area and now I get to play for the Warriors? You can't really ask for less." says Powe after the trade was announced just the hours after the Warriors win over Boston.

"He's a good kid." says teammate Kevin Garnett. "He's a tough rebounder, he has good work ethic, he'll be good with the Warriors."

Kosta Perovic will be sent to the Celtics, who are relatively thin at the Center position with only Kendrick Perkins and a 33 year old Scot Pollard manning the position.

Powe will be wearing the number 0 and is expected to play in the next game against the Mavericks on the road.

Dallas gets revenge against Golden State

After a disappointing end to last season, the Mavs have started out the season hot with a 6-2 record with a win over Golden State. Dirk Nowitzki led the way in this game, scoring 24 points and tearing down 13 rebounds.

"Last year was a disappointment, but we're here to win this year." Dirk said in a pre-game interview.

The Warriors were lead by Andris Biedrins and Monta Ellis who both scored 18 points. Baron added 16 points but shot a disappointing 1-11 from the 3 point line.

"Tonight was an off night for me. We could have had this game if I wasn't taking as many jumpshots as I did and tried to take it to the rim."

The Warriors as a team only shot 4 for 25 from beyond the arc and their free throw shooting was poor as usual.

"That's definitely something we need to work on. Our free throw percentage is the worst in the league right now and we have a bunch of good shooters. It's ok to have an offnight at the 3 point line but to shoot this poor from the free throw line is unacceptable." said Head Coach Don Nelson.

Leon Powe made his Golden State Warriors debut, scoring 4 point and grabbing 2 rebounds.

11 3-point attempts by Davis and he only hit 1?
If hes struggling at hitting those try to trade for a shooter or try giving other players more 3-point shots.
