NJN [9-10] - Nets trying to get a young star ?

New Jersey Nets - The Network.

Introduction.
This is my third dynasty. I've learned a lot, and this is what I am trying to do by my best. I will also simulate the first season, because I personally enjoy reading off-season recaps more, than game recaps. In my Nets, the team will still have Jason Kidd, along with Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson. I'll try to fail with the team, and rebuild it to a young and promising team with one veteran leader. I'll make recaps of moves I do in the simulated season also, and add them to 'NJNETS.com'. That's it, I hope you enjoy it !

Dynasty settings
    Sim Quarter Length: 12 minutes
    Playoff Length: 7-7-7-7
    Sim Injuries: Yes
    Sim Intervention: Yes
    Rosters: from 15th February, 2008.
    System: PC
    Game: NBA Live 07

Ingame settings
    Skill Level: All-Star
    Quarter Length: 8 minutes
    Sliders: Custom
Fatigue: I don't have the patch, so I do the subs for my team and opponents team myself, fairly.

Hmm Nets..interesting choice.Looks like you'll be making a lot of trades(if you are intending to keep just one veteran).Good luck with that, just don't build a super team  Solid presentation though (Y)

Looking forward what's next.

Bye Jefferson ! Welcome, Ratliff and Gomes !

After two months of not being the most succesful team they could, Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe decided to make the first move. Vandeweghe has sent a 5 years pro Richard Jefferson to Minnesota, where Richard Jefferson will team up with other rising star, Al Jefferson. New Jersey Nets recieved Theo Ratliff and Ryan Gomes, both those contracts will end this summer. The reason of this trade was to get salary cap space for the coming off-season.

Nets sign DeMarr Johnson.

After trading Richard Jefferson, the New Jersey Nets needed a new SF. The GM has signed DeMarr Johnson, for a 1 year, Mid-Level expection contract. DeMarr Johnson will play over Ryan Gomes and Bostjan Nachbar. If there will be a need or an injury, Vince Carter will also take care of the position.

Kidd, Carter both All-Stars this year.

07-08 season, both team leaders, Jason Kidd and Vince Carter are part of the All-Star game in New Orleans. Both veterans have respectively good stats to be the starting guards of the Eastern All-Star team. Even better, that's not all, Jason Kidd has been invited to the 3pt shootout, as he has shot team high 131 three pointers till now. That's still not it, Vince Carter has been invited to the Sprite Slam Dunk competition, maybe Carter still has it after 7 years of being a pro, pointing at the 2000. Vince Carter show in Oakland.

Shouldn't this be the 07/08 season?

Anyway, Shaq brought the title to Phoenix.
15M cap space is pretty nice.

Good luck!

Julius Erving named the General Manager of the New Jersey Nets.

Today, after the Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe has decided to end his career, the new GM has been announced. Few hours after Vandeweghe announced his retirement, the news were already on NBA.com, and luckily, Julius Erving already heard the news and was interested in the position in the staff. Julius Erving played 3 years for the New York Nets and is a Hall Of Famer.

_____

Thanks, Martti.
Well yeah, I changed it now. :)
And about 15M, it's not just 15M, the news I saw surprised me also, and gave me lots of cap space, you'll see it soon. :)

Behind the scenes.

Rookie scouting reports.

Now, when the Nets are having the 16th pick in the '08 draft, they need to be sure who is the one to draft. Before the 07-08 season, Nets invested on scouts, and the results are good. During the season, scouts always had eyes on players, and that paid off as they have good results from the scouts. Here is a report of possible picks for the Nets.
Stanislav Soares. PG; 6'1"; 214 lbs; Czech Rep.
Strengths: Good knowledge about the game. Works on his game to be the best. Wise mind. Good awarness on offense and defense. Can shoot well and has a nice range. Nice stealing ability and doesn't gamble while stealing. His dunks look very nice.
Weaknesses: Slow, weak and not very explosive. Doesn't shine too much unless he can lead a team. Can get injuried after times.
NBA Comparison: Kirk Hinrich.

Felix Rey: PG; 6'0"; 190 lbs; Shaw College.
Strengths: Very fast and quick. Possesses a killer-crossover. Rarely loses the ball, because of his ball handling. Can pass the ball good. Shot 96% from the charity stripe in college. Gets to the line much. Can get few steals per game. NBA ready.
Weaknesses: If he doesn't get a steal, he leaves his team alone as he gambles on defense. Can't play too much minutes. Not very strong, though not weak. Has had few injuries behind.
NBA Comparison: Allen Iverson.

Julio Ribeiro: SF; 6'7", 226 lbs; Connectitut college.
Strengths: Versatile, all-round player. Most likely to have nothing under 1.0 in his stats. Athletic. Able to run as fast as needed all 48 minutes.
Weaknesses: Versatile, but hasn't got main specialities. Like most players on the draft, not the strongest and also had some injuries in his freshman year in college.
NBA Comparison: Andre Iguodala/Carmelo Anthony (worse knowledge, though)

DeMarco Best: C/PF; 7'0", 252 lbs, Cal. St. Northridge college.
Strengths: Can run fast break. Ability to finish run'n'gun offense's. Very athletic for his size. Good offensive player. Good team player.
Weaknesses: Opposite the offense, he's not a monster on the defensive end. Needs to work on his blocking and rebounding skills. If he wants to be a C, needs to work at his skills on the position.
NBA Comparison: Brad Miller

Philip Castro: SG; 6'3"; 230 lbs; Illinois college.
Strengths: Offers a nice offensive show. Explosive dunker. Nice shot and range. Probably the best dunker in the draft. Doesn't get injured often.
Weaknesses: Could take some weight down. Gets tired during the games. Can't grab many rebounds. Not the best attitude.
NBA Comparison: JR Smith

2008 draft is full of very strong potential. The draft is full of Small Forwards, but contains other talent too. Experts rated this the second best draft in ten years, after the 2003 NBA draft, which included current stars like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and many more.

Not too shabby IMO. I'm guessing Indiana wasn't your calling?
Good luck with this! Oh and by the way, it's Javaris Crittenton. Not Jamal ;)

Looks like you have putted very much effort into this. From the draft I like mostly Rey and Best. Nuggets must have very good roster now, after Marion trade. Good luck

@Skillmatic - Thanks, and yeah, Indiana is kind a.. hard to repair because of the salaries and everything. Fixed the Javaris thing :p

@ratrac - Thanks :P And btw, Nuggets kind a suck now, Carmelo is 6th man because Live is too stupid to change the positions.

@Homicide - thanks :)

Nenad Kristic resigned.

Resigning contracts period for every team, so for the Nets. Not the smallest amount of options, contracts to take back, but arguably the best one is Nets forward/center Nenad Kristic. Kristic is resigned for 3 years for 17.45 MIL with a 5% change over the years. He is excepted to play the PF position, and take some time from the center when it's needed.

NBA Draft.

Draft, like every other ? No, hell no ! 2008 draft, full of buzz, full of talent and potential which climbs to the top 5 drafts in the history of NBA, is it true ? We'll see it now ! Lots of strong potential like said already, including last year's stars like F. Gomez, one of the most improved players in college basketball last year, L. Stewart, Z. Battie and the list continues, because it's hard to believe there's someone weak in the first round, hard to believe it with the second round, too ! After the draft lottery, there's been many talks around, many ideas, many thoughts. None is sure what's going to happen, none is sure who will they get, nothing is sure, untill now ! After few minutes of waiting, chatting between the team's coaches, general managers and owners, the NBA Commissioner David Stern came to the room. Didn't take long when the draft began, Minnesota Timberwolves already knew their pick, and so did David Stern. Time went by, everyone a little nervous.
Then, Stern told everybody to stay quiet, and he started to tell the team's picks. Took a while, took thoughts and nerves, but after a hour, everything was made. This is the list of the first round picks in 2008 NBA Draft.

1. Minnesota - F. Gomez
2. Portland - Z. Battie
3. Seattle - L. Stewart
4. Philadelphia - D. Molony
5. Milwaukee - R. Dordevic
6. Atlanta - F. Cruz
7. New Orleans - R. Shaw
8. Memphis - P. Castro
9. Raptors - C. Schwarz
10. Sacramento - J. Ribeiro
11. Golden State - M. Brad
12. Washington - K. Gill
13. Indiana - S. Soares
14. Charlotte - H. Vinny
15. New York - T. Axel
16. New Jersey - F. Rey
17. LA Clippers - R. Lange
18. LA Lakers - I. Salmons
19. Orlando - D. Mills
20. Jazz - R. Rogers
21. Miami - W. Justin
22. Phoenix - N. Haynes
23. Denver - I. Vega
24. Cleveland - B. Castillo
25. Chicago - Z. Coutts
26. Boston - D. Ripley
27. San Antonio - A. Gomez
28. Detroit - D. Flanagan
29. Dallas - A. Fortsen
30. Houston - N. Hamilton

That was done for now, and the NBA had it's new players, future faces and hopefully fans.

NBA Draft.

Few hours after the draft, the new Nets, Felix Rey and Agostino Dai, along with coach Frank Lawrence and GM Julius Erving were having a little press conference.
When they were all ready, everyone sitting down, the cameras also came. The coach started talking.

" Hello, everyone. First of all, welcome to the franchise and I hope you feel yourself warm here. " Lawrence said.
" Thanks, coach ! " Dai and Rey both said together and also smiled together.
" Now, ask me, if you have any questions. "
Agostino raised his hand first.
" I heard you didn't resign Magloire, I would like to know, is Stromile Swift the starting center now, unless you have other plans ? " Dai asked.
Before Frank started to say something, Erving opened his mouth for the first time with a wise voice.
" Dai, your going to get your minutes from the bench, we'll play you as a strong bench. " he said.
" Oh.. That's okay. " Dai responded.
Felix Rey raised his hand that time.
" What about me ? Am I playing under Jason Kidd or how ? " Rey asked.
" Well, for that answer, we would have to send the cameras out, and we don't have the sure answer YET. The sure answer will come in few days, patience young boy. " Erving said.

The press conference continued with common questions, talking about themselves and so on, just a normal one.
After a hour, Julius Erving and Frank Lawrence were the only two left in the room.
Lawrence started to talk.
" I don't find this a nice place, let's go to my office, take a coffee and have a talk. " he offered.
" Sure, why not. "

Finally, they got there.
" So.. *drinks coffee* What do you think about the new players ? " Lawrence asked.
" Well, we did the opinions together. I think they were right. We have a nice PG that can be a nice franchise player and can lead a team. He can finish, he can score, he can set up plays for his teammates, he can get stea.. " and Lawrence stopped him.
" .. Steals ? We need to work on his defense, he shouldn't gamble. We should also work on his shot selections sometimes, he's not a very good shooter so he should understand his role on the team. " he said.
" Yeah, right you are. That's where I was leading. " Erving answered.
" What about Dai ? You picked him, tell me his good sides. " Lawrence asked about him.
" Well.. Didn't you like his attitude ? I mean, he's smart, he knows about the game. Yet, he's got lots of talent and is kind an unstoppable asian kid. I think he's a smaller version of Yao. He's an early second round pick, just like the other one, though we saw more in the other kid and got him in the first round, I think the second pick also deserves the same rating.. almost. " Erving explained him.
" Yeah.. Right, well, every move is for you, so it's up to you how you make everything and what you do. Trades and everything is for you. I think we are off to a good start. " Lawrence said and just finished his coffee.
" Thanks, Frank. " Erving said, and also finished his coffee.

They both went home ready to hear news about who is going to retire, and right about to sign free agents after this, the list looks promising and Julius Erving sure has his plans ready.

Bye, J-Kidd !

Today, 27th July, one of the best point guards who has ever played the game, Jason Kidd has announced his retirement. 35 year old, 14 year pro, 9 time All-Star, led the Nets to finals 2 times ( 2002, 2003 ), third in regular season triple doubles and probably the best player who makes his teammates better. At the press conference, Jason Kidd announced it, he said he will be with his family and also promised to watch Nets games after times. He said bye to his teammates, wished them best of lucks for the 08-09 season and gave the Nets a lot of cap space for the free agent signing. Jason Kidd is probably a future Hall of Famer and will be remembered as one of the best team leaders in the history of NBA.

This is the list of most of the retired players.
Image

Theo Ratliff, who's contract ended this season, also decided to end his career and will be remembered as a nice defensive player over his career.

Monta Ellis joins the Nets.

Two days after signing a 1.25 guard Felix Rey and pure center Agostino Dai,
one day from the retirement of pure point guard Jason Kidd, the Nets have
signed a 1.75 guard Monta Ellis. Ellis will most likely be a starter of the Nets,
as a shooting guard, as Carter is going to play forward this year. Ellis will
probably get a piece of the point also, as Carter will have his toe on the
guard position also. Ellis will be paid 40.82 MIL over 5 years, with a 6%
change.

Ryan Gomes is back.

Ryan Gomes first came to the Nets with a trade that sent Jefferson to the
Timberwolves and brought Gomes to the Nets, along with Ratliff. Ryan Gomes
didn't get much playing time, but he'll be back as a deep /-bench player.
Gomes will get 1.98 MIL over a year. Right now he's a bench under Vince
Carter.

Haislip signed on the bench.

In a need of third PF, the Nets signed Marcus Haislip to play under Nenad
Kristic and next to Sean Williams. Haislip will be here for 5 years with a 11.70
MIL salary and a 2% change. Marcus Haislip is considered young as he's 27
years old, and his contract will end when he is 32. He fits into the young and
promising Nets as a solid defender and offensive player. Haislip made himself
a name in Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers.

Josh Childress the last chosen.

With around 6 MIL cap space left for the Nets, they needed just one more
forward to make the bench very strong. Right, who could it be ? Josh
Childress ! 5 years, 29.31 MIL and a 4% change. He is versatile
performer, just 24 years old and can replace Carter anytime needed, he
can also play the 2 guard, and probably could stand as a PF if necessary.
After 07-08 season, the Hawks didn't resign him after being with Childress
for 4 seasons, leaving the rising star a free agent and giving interest to
many teams.

" With this last signing, the Nets are not going to make any moves this
offseason. " Julius Erving said, as they have managed to make their salary
to 0.
