Blazers Trade For Pachulia, Send Aldridge to Atlanta

The Schedule is set, the season is about to start. But before the Hawks could play their first game, they accepted an trade offer from the Portland Trailblazers.

The Blazers sent Sophmore big-man LaMarcus Aldridge to the ATL. The received nothing less than the 5-year-pro Zaza Pachulia.

Pachulia who put up solid numbers last season, 12,2 Points and 6,9 Rebounds per game, will go to Portland for his 4th NBA Team in his career.

"I didn't really want to give up on Zaza, but when I heard who the Blazers were offering, my thougts changed immediatly", Hawks GM Billy Knight said.

Aldridge, who played in 63 games for the Blazers last year, scored 9 Points per game and grabbed about 5 boards per contest, is many peoples' pick to have a breakout season.

Aldridge will come from the bench beforehand, and he is set to play against Dallas on the Hawks' season opener.

Nowitzki, Mavs Cruise Past Hawks In Opener

Dallas 115, Altanta 98

ATLANTA GA, November 2 (AP) The Atlanta Hawks were excited to play Dallas on thier season opener to set the tone of a potential year with Play-Off appearence. The Hawks' last season record was 30-52. They haven't been to the Play-Offs since 1999.

Back to reality, the Mavericks had their own plans on the opening night, as they crushed the Hawks 115 to 98 at Philips Arena.

The Mavs wanted to set the tone early, as reigning MVP Dirk Nowitzki drove to the basket for a layup in traffic plus the foul in the Mavs' very first possesion.
The Hawks managed to tie the game for the first time at the score of 11 each.

With 5:05 remaining in the first, the Hawks substituted in LaMarcus Aldridge.
Aldridge was traded to Hakws three days ago, as they sent Zaza Pachulia to the Trailblazers.
30 seconds later Aldridge got his first two points as a Hawk on the free-throw line off an Erick Dampier shooting foul.
The Hawks were able to get in front via a 13-5 run and the Mavs were forced to take their first time out at the score of 17-12 in favor of Atlanta.
The first quarter ended 28-26, Mavs. Although Dallas held the lead after first, the Hawks shot the ball better, 57% from the field to 47% by the Mavericks.

The second quarter started with a bomb, as Solomon Jones got the ball from Joe Johnson after setting a pick, and finished with a tomahawk jam over Dampier.

The Dallas Mavericks managed to hold on a small lead at half time, 54-47.
Jason „The Jet“ Terry was the best man for them at the half, he had 16 points and 5 assists, while Dirk Nowitzki had 13. Newly acquired Jason Kidd only had 2 points but dished out 5 assists.
For the Hawks Johnson and Aldridge had 9 points each.

From the start of the 3rd qaurter, started to get hard for Atlanta.
It was only a metter of time until the Mavs would ran away.
They did so late in the 3rd as they were able to get their first double-digit lead of the night at the score off 77-67.

The Hawks failed miserably in the last qaurter. Led by Joe Johnson they made a little push, but it seemed that everything was immediatly countered by Dallas.
Dallas led by as many as 21 and finished up the Hawks in the 4th.

Dirk Nowitzki was named Player Of The Game. He had 33 points and 8 rebounds.
Joe Johnson led all Hawks' scores with 24. He also dished out 8 assists.
Rookie Al Horford had a double-double in his first NBA game with 10 and 10.

The Hawks will face another tough team next, as they will fly to Detroit to take on the Pistons.

Pistons Outlast Hawks in OT

Detroit 93, Altanta 91

AUBURN HILLS, MI, Nov. 4 (AP) After a tough loss at home against Dallas, the Atlanta Hawks were looking to get their first win of the season at the Palace in Detroit.

The first quarter was all defense as the two teams will head into the second with the score of 17-17.
More of the same in the second, the Hawks got their first 5 point lead at the score of 28-23 off an JJ three pointer.

The Hawks were playing good defense in the first half, holding the Pistons to only 32 points at 37% shooting. "We were trying to beat them with their own weapon. Defense." said hawks guard Mike Bibby, who had 2 steals in the game.

The Hawks were going with a 9 point lead (41-32) into the 3rd quarter, as they got shocked some minutes later. Al Horford drove to the hoop and successfully drew a foul on Rasheed Wallace.
Horford, who was drafted with the 3rd pick in this years draft, landed akwardly on his right leg. He suffered a sore right knee but fortunately he was cleared to play and he returned later in the quarter.

Joe Johnson had 19 points after three quarters, but the Pistons were infront, 61-59, led by Sheed's 19.
The Hawks managed to hold a small lead, late in the last quarter. With 29 seconds to play in regulation, the score was 78-73 in favor of the Hawks. A cold blooded three pointer by Chauncey Billups brang them within two.

Afrer a Hawks timeout, LaMarcus Aldridge made a key turnover, which may have cost them the game. His inbound pass to Mike Bibby was intercepted by Billups, who ran all the way for an easy game tiying layup.

Joe Johnson had now the game in his hands, with the score of 78-78 and an disabled shot-clock.
He drove to the basket, kicked it to Aldridge who made a tough layup in traffic to give the Hawks a two point lead.

With 2,6 seconds left, Rasheed Wallace, who has been hot all night, swished a midrange jumper to send the game into over-time.

The Hawks couldn't survive in the extra period and got defeated by the Pistons, 93-91.

"Sheed" finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds.
"We definitely have to work on our low-post defense", Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "First Dirk pouring in 33, now Sheed killing us with 34."

The Hawks will continue their road trip with a game against New Jersey in two days.

Hawks Pick Up First Win Of The Season

Atlanta 99, New Jersey 93

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ, Nov. 6 (AP) The Hawks were hoping to get their first win of the season, as they were visiting the 0-3 New Jersey Nets on Thursday.

The Hawks were still recovering from a very tough overtime loss in Detroit.
They started out extremely strong, bulding up a 16-6 lead in the first quarter.

Although Al Horforf suffered a sore knee against the Pistons, he still was able to stay in the starting 5, but he gave up some minutes to Sophmore LaMarcus Aldridge.

Aldridge, who is a top candidate for the Most Improved Player and for the Sixth Man Award, had yet another good game. Coming off the bench he scored 14 points along with 9 rebounds.

The Hawks won the first quarter 25-19.

All-Star Joe Johnson finished with 26 points and 7 assists. He was only 7 for 21 from the field, but shot 12 for 15 from the charity stripe.
The Hawks had a rough shooting night from downtown, hitting none for 9 attempts on the game.

Late in the second the Hawks managed to go on a huge 23-4 run and they finished the half with the score of 52-39.

Josh Smith, who hadn't found his game in the first two games of the seasons, was a big factor in tonight's matchup. He added 17 points at 7 or 9 shooting. Smith had also 13 rebounds and 2 assists.

For the Nets, Vince Carter provided 26 points, Richard Jefferson score 20. Devin Harris played fantastic, he scored 19 and dished out 14 assists, but it simply wasn't enough for the Nets.
They were down by as many as 20, and they even came back within 6, but the Hawks never allowed them to tie the game again.

The Hawks' record improved to 1-2 and they will fly back to Atlanta to take on Phoenix tomorrow night.
The Suns are struggeling lately, they are currently at 0-4.

Hawks Win A Close One Against Suns

Atlanta 117, Phoenix 115

ATLANTA, GA, Nov. 7 (AP) Back at home, the Atlanta Hawks are taking on the visiting Phoenix Suns.
The Suns are 0-4 (before the game), surprisingly, and are playing without an injured veteran Grant Hill.

Everybody who knows the Phoenix Suns, knows that defense isn't a big factor in their games.
The game started quickly and the Hawks took the lead at the score of 15-13 which capped a 6-0 run and forced the Suns to take their first time-out.

The first quarter ended with the score of 29-27, after Rookie Acie Law hit the buzzer beater to give the Hawks the lead (Photo). The pace for a high scoring game was set.
Raja Bell had 10 points in the first quarer, while Amare Stoudemire and Joe Johnson added 8.

The second quarter was all tied up, so the Hawks were infront with a point at the half, 58-59.
Josh Childress had a great game off the bench, he had 13 points in the first half and 20 in the game.

Each team had their runs, but at the end of the third, the score was tied once again. 85-85.
It was a very close game all night.

We're in the fourth period with under a minute to go, Joe Johnson finished a tough layup in traffic to give the Hawks the lead, 115-113.
The Suns on the next possesion, kicked the ball to Leandro Barbose for a three from the corner, but it didn't even hit the rim. Josh Smith grabbed the rebound and was fouled immediately.
He proved this strong nerves and made both free-throws, to give them a two possesion lead.
With three seconds to go, the Suns got off a two pointer, which they made, but it wasn't enough.
The Hawks were able to run out the clock and win their second straight game, 117-115.

Just like in the game against the Nets, Joe Johnson shot an awful percentage, but was the Hawks' top scorer. He was 10 for 30 from the field, he finished with 26 points. He also had 9 assists.
Tow-time MVP Steve Nash had only 4 points, but had a season high 20 assists.

The Hawks will finish their tough week with a game against Kevin Garnett and the Celtics.

ImageJordan™ Player Of The Game
Joe Johnson 26 Points, 9 Assists, 3 Rebounds, 1 Steal,

ImageSubway™ Sub Of The Game
Josh Childress 20 Points, 7-10 FG, 6 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Steal 5-8 Fts, 1-1 3Pts
