Sonics / NLCL / Seatle announces their official roster

Postby Maree on Fri Feb 08, 2008 4:48 am

hi guys.

this time i'm gonna try something different...

at the www.thenlcl.com we've started a league but with the twist, we are doing a fantasy draft you can check here -> http://thenlcl.com/index.php?board=63.0

I've chose Seatle Super Sonics and on random selection we were dealt 15th overall pick in the first round. But it is not a ordinary draft, it's the reverse draft system. For example : 1st overall pick in 1st round is last pick in second round and again first in 3rd etc.etc.

Here it is link to my team Seatle Super Sonics -> http://thenlcl.com/index.php?board=33.0

Although just 1st round has been finished i am already excited. It will be very intersting to trading with other users(no more ripping CPUs)

Hope you like it, you can share an opinion wich player should we pick in 2nd round. Here you can see wich players are left by overall order.

Things are finaly moving forward as the 1st round, of the so called "Fantasy Draft", is over.

1st round draft results

Finaly after so much arguing, the National Basketball Association and the GM's came to agreement to restarting the biggest basketball league in the world. It's very bold move from both sides, as the association and as the owners of the clubs.

Seatle Super Sonics were randomly picked as 15th overall pick in the 1st round and that also means they have 46th overall pick in the second round, because of the reverse draft system(1st pick in 1st round is last in 2nd round) to provide at least a bit of fairness.

Sonics also announced their new General Manager - Sam Presti

Image
Sam Presti:
"We are actually fortuned to have a 15th pick because we are exactly in the middle of 30 teams. We have at the same time good and bad pick. But it is almost irelavant which pick you have. Afcourse it's nice to have first pick and selecting Kobe right away and that brings even more presure to Bryant because his next 2 teammates in the 2nd and 3rd round won't be good as him, far from that. Although they'll have they 3rd round right after theirs 2nd, they'll sure miss some talents. P.J. Carlesimo will now talk on our roster and first round pick for the Sonics"

Image
P.J. Carlesimo:
"We really wanted Dirk from the moment "fantasy draft" was mentioned. And I still can't belive that despite 15th pick we've got him. Incredible. He's a true leader, a mvp superstar class player and on top of that it automatic puts us as inside aswell as outside contenders. We will really try to build team for his needs. That means acuiring very good point gaurd to work that pick and roll with Dirk. If everything goes like it supose, we will come to the playoffs. Yes, I've said it (smiling)"

Image
Dirk Nowitzki:
"What a though month, not knowing if the league would start at all. Seatle, an interesting city and afcourse I'm happy that they have a big belief in me. I'll do in my best to work with coach and the rest of the players that are comming. Actually I have a strong feeling that will be a heck of contenders on the West."

Chauncey comes to Seatle for more big shots.

2nd round draft results

Just 24 hours ago when the biggest upset in sports history started. A fantasy draft, who would it thought it. Today, 2nd round of that infamous draft was completed. Although it didn't have shockers like it had in 1st round, but still, we had a couple surprises.

I think nobody expected that Nash and Billups are going to be picked in 2nd round. A former MVP and a two-time championshiop ring holder, you would think that GM's were counting on experience and not young blood. Specialy in these days, when fresh teams are forming, you have to be very carefully with picking the right guys. Potentialy they could pick a former rivals and that's not good thing for a team's chemistry

Image
P.J. Carlesimo:
"YES!Once again we were extremly lucky to pick a player that caliber. Are you kidding me?!? Dirk and Chauncey on the same floor?!? Or even better, both of them on the same team! We are talking about players that've already been to finals and one of them even got a ring. Some teams are lucky enough if they have that type of player, who knows what it takes to come to the finals, once in their lifetime. But having two?!? That's like a lottery being won or something. Good times are comming, very good times."

Image
Chauncey Billups:
" That was close, wasn't it?! I thought I would never be picked. (laughing) I'm joking afcourse. Somebody asked me yesterday if my pride was hurt when I wasn't picked in the 1st round. Well, being totaly honest I think it's better for me not being picked in the 1st one. Just for one simple reason. I can't do everything myself. But here, with Dirk already, we can do beautiful things together, so like it a lot. We are gonna be a great duo, that I promise you."[/url]

After 3rd round everything is still running smoothly, but getting who they wanna, isn't.

3rd round draft results

A third consecutive day and a third round. Things are right now looking very promising. Just a few minor complications, but other than that it is looking positive for draft to actually be fully finished.

As we looke at the 3rd round, it was very obvious that most of the teams has chosen a power forwards or a centers. Which is on one side understandable because most of highest rated players are guards and some forwards.

It is now getting more and more intersting as the teams will almost have their starting five. Many say bad pick was made by Seatle - Brad Miller. But if looking more closely, we see that is actually not. Brad can draw away much needed attention from Dirk and even other guys.

Image
P.J. Carlesimo:
" It's getting almost ironic, how we are getting the exact player that we've wanted each round. And this time at first we did want Brad. He's experienced and with him we already have, I say, super experienced guys. Also he is good at the offensive end and that is good for Dirk, because everybody is allways looking at Dirk. So that's good. But in the last moments we kinda changed our mind and we wanted Tyson. Not that we don't want Brad, but we wanted to go little different , more defensive style. In the end it doesn't really matter, Brad is a pro and I think if he works hard, he can be an effective defensive player as he is an offensive."

Image
Brad Miller:
" Man am pissed at ya', press. I haven't yet played a single minute for Seatle and everybody is talking how i won't be able to defend the big guys and so on. I'M THE BIG GUY, DEFEND ME. They say that mad player is a bad player. Well I guess you'll have to see for your self in the upcomming season. I can't defened? Pff, all my life I've been defending cause' I was and I am a big man. Little help from Dirk and we are a threat. And I'm very happy with being selected by Seatle, although I wasn't really their first choice. With Chauncey and Dirk, man, BRING IT ON. "

Young blood to stir up the team.

5th round draft results

Finaly! As all teams have their starting 5, teams are now forming and slowly starts to show their potential strenght.

EAST
- On the east we have a couple of potential playoffs teams. One of them is definetly Chicago - With with best rated player in the leauge(Garnett) and on of the best Center's to ever play the game (O'Neal) they sure have an amazing frontline. Frontline that will rearly allow to rebound on them in defense.

- Also Indiana looks promising with new-old start J.O'Neal feeding Jefferson and a excellet guard Bibby.

WEST
Everybody are saying that West is gonna be tuff. A lot of good teams formed there, again. So let's have a look which are they.

Dallas - a team to be watch for. Specialy to see how will Kobe play with new teammates. He's known to yell at people when they are not doing their job 100%. And in the past Mike And Kobe had some arguing.

Phoenix - Duncan is for sure the best player to form franchise around. And not just any franchise, a nba championshim franchise. But they have to acuire so good point guard. This is their weakness.

Seatle - Also here is Seatle, with incredible line-up Nowitzki + Miller , McCants + Diaw and on top of that they have Chauncey, one of the best experienced point guard in the league. But it's obivous they are lacking in defense...

Image
P.J. Carlesimo:
" We are very happy to bring Rashad to us. He has the speed and the quickness that we lack a bit. He can shoot a 3-point with eyes shut and also he's young. He wants to prove himself and we gonna give him that chance to show what he can really do, surrounded with good teammates. He will definetly be firstone running on the fast brake and lay down some baskets. We were actually looking that type of a player in previous round but we were given a bless to been able to chose Boris, so we chose him instead."

Image
Rashad McCants:
" Man if it is like they say, me playing in starting 5 in Seatle. I love it!When they'll need a three, I'll give them three. When I'll have to run, I'll run like Michael Johnson on the Olympics (laughing). Chauncey is a good friend of mine so that's great, being teammates with him. Also Dirk, Boris and Brad are an amazing players. Good season man, good season."

Secret pick in 6th round.

As the 6th round is over, mystery still remains who did Seatle actually pick and with which team did they make a deal.

P.J. Carlesimo:
" For now, officially, our pick is Luke and the rumors are quite true. But more on that after 7th round is finished. Thank you."

Luke Ridnour:
" I really don't know where I'll go. It would be amazing if I stayed here, with my old team and city. But I guess the deal has already been done so I won't play in Sonics jersey this year. "

Seatle and Phoenix swap their picks

After 7th round was finished. Seatle and Phoenix explained their 6th and 7th round pick. As they exchange Luke Ridnour and Beno Udrih for Antoine Walker and Francisco Garcia.

P.J. Carlesimo:
" We actually offered Phoenix to have our pick in 6th round (15th pick) and us with their pick (25th). For that we got their 5th pick in 7th round and via-versa again. We actually acuired players that we need in advance pre-thought blockbuster trade with team that we won't reveal yet. So basically this is just a short stop for Antoine and Francisco. All that will be revealed in a couple of days. "

A blockbuster trade between Seatle and Toronto

Today at 5:00AM, Basketball Association approved the trade between Seatle Super Sonics and Toronto Raptors. It's a huge deal between Eastern and Western team. It looks like Seatle has strengthen their defense and Toronto their offense. Teams are almost ready to roll as only couple of rounds remains.

---------------------
Trade info
---------------------

Brad Miller(SEA), Boris Diaw(SEA), Antoine Walker(SEA) and Francisco Garcia(SEA) for
Andrew Bogut(TOR), Devin Harris(TOR), Paul Millsap(TOR) and Jalen Rose(TOR)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
P.J. Carlesimo:
" We have really needed this trade. We are so gratefull to Toronto's organisation for accepting our offer. They've needed more offensive centered players like Brad and Antoine. It also strengthen them in SF position. We've actually wanted Francisco to stay but since they've lost Harris we had no choice.

We are little worried with being weak on small forward position. But bringing Andrew, Paul and Joel, it really helps Dirk on the defensive end, aswell as rebounding the ball. We are also very excited to have Devin in our starting 5. He will add alot with his quickness and speed and also his passing skills will be appreciating.

We wish Brad, Boris, Antoine and Francisco the best of luck in future. Let us hope we meet Toronto in finals (smiling). Now questions. "
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Reporter: So are Sonics planing for trade to strenghten them in SF?
P.J. Carlesimo: No. At least not at the moment. We'll check our options when draft is completed. You never know who you could pick.
Reporter: Some were guessing that organisation had some conflicts between Brad and Boris. And because of that you've wanted to trade them. Is this true?
P.J. Carlesimo: Absolutely not. Where are you getting this stuff from? Like I said before, this trade was to strengthen us in defense. No conflicts at all.
Reporter: Some source are saying you were willing to trade even Chauncey Billups, the player that is not for sale. At least Sonics organisation said so.
P.J. Carlesimo: Yes and no. We are actually willing to trade Chauncey but with high price, meaning, to get in return a point guard better then him( smiling). So you see, not many offers to this day.
Reporter: Okay, last question. What will be the signature playing for the Sonics?
P.J. Carlesimo: Basically you mean how we gonna play. Amm, well we gonna do it all. Fastbrakes, half-court plays, alley-ops, three points, under the hoop, I mean I can go on and on about our play. It will be exciting, I can tell you that.

I really like the trade for you. Harris, Millsap and Bogut are all good players. The only one that hurts to give up is Boris Diaw, but even he is having a down season. When did you get all those guys, it seems like you skipped 4 or 5 rounds. Anyways keep it up, and hopefully we get to some game action soon.. (Y)

Seatle announced their official Roster for the season.

It is exactly 4 days since draft was completed. All teams are still furiously trading with eachothers and adding last pieces to their puzzle. Really lot of big trade happend to this date. For instance Garnett being traded to Houston.

After the pick swap with Phoenix and 8 players trade with Toronto, Seatle has decided to announce their official Starting 5, Bench and player positions. Surprisingly Andrew Bogut will not be in starting 5 at least at the first game. Also Rashad McCants will be in starting line-up.

Seatle Super Sonics official roster (click)

P.J. Carlesimo:
" Well, here you have it! Our team! we are so thrilled with inspectations for this season. For sure we are aiming to be at the playoffs spot at the end of the season. We just have to stay healthy and everything's gonna be alright.

Now let's talk about line-up changes. There is a reason why Andrew and Jalen won't be starting in our team. Speed, and I mean speed. With Chauncey, Rashad and specially Devin, we will have one of the fastest guards on the floor. Even Paul will add to this equation. He's among the fastest forwards. Dirk also loves to run. With bringing Andrew to the PF position instead of C, we will have a very good substitution for Paul when he run's out of gas. Jalen will be also great from bench with his experience, he can still be effective.

We will have two pre-season games with Italy and Greece. Because league will start shorthy we won't travel to Europe. Infact, both teams are already on their way to Seatle. You will get report about these two games."
