FRONT OFFICE CHANGES IN CHARLOTTE

Charlotte, NC
In a press conference held at the new Charlotte Bobcats Arena, Michael Jordan announced he is taking on a new role within the organization. He is stepping down from GM duties and taking on the president of player personnel. The change comes due to Jordan wanting more family time and a wanting to get more personal with the players and involved in the training and mentoring of the younger players on the team. Filling in the GM duties is newly appointed Dave Naylor. Naylor is stepping into a new role and a new organization coming from the front office of the San Antonio Spurs where he was the head scout.

THE FRONT OFFICE

Owner- Bob Johnson
GM- Dave Naylor
Player Personnel- Michael Jordan
Head Coach- Sam Vincent
Asst Head Coach- Phil Ford
Head Scout- Jeff Capel

ROSTER BREAKDOWN

CENTER- The center position is a 4 way swing for minutes between Mohammed, Hollins, Okafor and Davidson. Hollins and Davidson still have to prove their worth in the NBA and will see limited action unless significant indication of more PT is shown by either two. Mohammed holds down the starting spot lining up with Okafor to form quite the duo inside the paint. Okafor will play some minutes at the 5 while Nazr gets his rest but depth at this spot is an issue.
Projections
Mohammed- 11.2ppg|6.4rpg|1.2blk|29.8mpg
Hollins- 2.2ppg|2.0rpg|0.8bpg|11.8mpg
Davidson- 1.2ppg|2.3rpg|0.4bpg|5.3mpg
GRADE- C (MOhammed is a very serviceable big and a nice piece to any squad but with Hollins and Davidson behind him Okafor will have to step in alot. When your starting 4 man is your best back up big something is suspect)

FOWARDS- The 3 and 4 spots are locked in with Wallace (coming off a career year) and Okafor holding them down solidly. Wallace will continue to fill in the gaps and plug in where ever he is needed and will most likely guard the opposing teams best scorer. Okafor will again own the paint for the 'Cats and be a force down low more so defensively as he continue to improve his robot like post game. Backups are oft-injured May who hopes to have a solid year while not missing too many games, who has the potential to be a solid NBA player when committed. At the 3 Jared Dudley and Adam Morrison will share the minutes, Morrison coming off a forgettable rookie year and Dudley who is trying to cement his place in the rotation.
PROJECTIONS
Okafor- 15.9ppg|11.1rpg|2.1bpg|36.7mpg
May- 7.5ppg|4.5rpg|1.2apg|19.7mpg
Wallace- 16.8ppg|7.1rpg|1.9bpg|2.3spg|35.9mpg
Morrison- 8.2ppg|2.2rpg|2.1apg|22.1mpg
Dudley- 4.7ppg|1.4rpg|1.0apg|10.5mpg
GRADE- B+ (Okafor and Wallace are borderline All-Stars, but yet again depth and lack of scoring punch of the bench hurts)

GUARDS- The gaurd rotation is deep within the Bobcats organization not so much with overwhelming talent but with steady players who can handle their own when need be. Felton will be the starting 1 guard, the 'Cats are looking to get more point guard play out of him this season and hope to see it this season. The two is set with newly aqquired Richardson who will be the Cats go to guy in the crunch and will shoulder the scoring load for this team. Backing those two up are McInnis and Anderson two savvy veterans who can help the growth of this young team and fill any needs that may arise throughout the season. Matt Carrol fan favourite will find his minutes decrease with the introduction of Richardson but will still find his minutes within the rotation.
PROJECTIONS
Richardson- 20.1ppg|4.6rpg|3.9apg|1.2spg|38.3mpg
Caroll- 6.7ppg|2.1rpg|1.1spg|20.1mpg
Anderson- 3.4ppg|1.1rpg|1.4apg|11.3mpg
Felton- 12.5ppg|6.9apg|1.9spg|32.1mpg
McInnis- 5.9mpg|3.6apg|2.3rpg|21.9mpg
GRADE B+ (Felton and J-Rich are a nice duo but depth is an issue at the guard spot)

Training Camp Complete

Hollins works on his foot speed

[i]After nearly two weeks in Port City watching the team go through two-a-days and desicting the playbook, I have come to know alot better this organization and personnel. From the owner down to the 12th man I have have spent time with everyone trying to figure out what direction this team needs to make the next step and be a playoff bound team and eventually a force within the eastern conference. Most of my time was spent with Sam Vincent, who is the right man for this job I whole heartedly believe. I like his approach to the game and his philosphy but I really wonder if we have the personnel to be the team he wants. He looks at basketball as a game of mismatches and the more we have the harder it will be for other teams to adjust to us defensively. Some changes will be needed for this to happen but we have time on our hands, so we will see how it all pans out.

I like what I saw from the team as a whole but here are what stood out at practice.

 Jared Dudley is better than his draft position, played really well. Is a great team mate too. I think he will overtake Morrison later on in the year
 Okafor is indeed the face of the franchise, nicest guy and team mate, is a real class act who is a physical beast.
 Wallace has a great work ethic, always doing extras after everyone is gone.
 Felton will take time adjusting into a pure point guard mold that coach wants.
 J-Rich didnt show much in training camp, half hearted it I think but is uber-talented.
 Nazr could never play more than 35 mins a game, not a great runner and not in that great shape.
 Morrison still struggles to be that scorer he was in college, it may be mental with him, I dont know but will find out.
 May needs to commit himself all the time to be a solid player
 McInnis and Anderson impressed at camp, good quality leadership was shown by both
 Hollins and Davidson seem long term projects but the upside is there no doubt.

Coaches are all positive about the upcoming season and we have a good reason to be, a solid starting 5 for once. Depth is an issue we will adress but every one is feeling good and ready for the season.

Next up- Pre Opening game coaches meeting and re-cap of the first week of games
