Stinging The NBA

The 06-07 Season was a disaster for the Hornets, they had a record of 26-56. This result was most likely due to the fact that through the season 4 out of the 5 starters were injured at one time or the other. Through November and part of December, Tyson Chandler was injured. Through January Peja Stojakovic and Desmond Mason were injured and finally through March Chris Paul was injured. After everyone on the team was healthy it seemed too late to try and make a run into the playoffs. Though GM Jeff Bower decided that he wanted to try and rebuild the Hornets, with young fresh talent. He saw the upcoming 07 Draft had great college players such as Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer and more so he began trading for draft picks. He managed to secure the 1st round picks of both Philadelphia and Utah. Philadelphia was in shreds after the season ended, because they had the worst record in the league and traded away a 25% chance at the first overall pick.

Many trades happened in the previous season, with some awkward ones as well. The biggest trades to happen in the 06-07 season though were:

Heat/Pacers - Eddie Jones for Jermaine O'Neal
Mavericks/Jazz - Dirk Nowitzki for Andrei Kirilenko
Nets/Nuggets - Richard Jefferson for Kenyon Martin

TORONTO TAKE NUMBER ONE

The New Orleans Hornets had the best chance of taking the number one spot using Philadelphia's 1st Round Pick, though it was the Toronto Raptors (Who had the 2rd best chance of getting the first pick) who took away the 1st overall pick. The Draft Lottery ended up as follows:

3. Seattle SuperSonics
4. Portland Trailblazers
5. New Orleans Hornets
6. Orlando Magic
7. New York Knicks
8. Golden State Warriors
9. Washington Wizards
10. Indiana Pacers
11. Atlanta Hawks
12. Sacramento Kings
13. Portland Trailblazers [MEM]
14. Minnesota Timberwolves

Rest:

15. Milwaukee Bucks
16. Charlotte Bobcats
17. New Orleans Hornets [UTA]
18. LA Clippers
19. Boston Celtics
20. New Jersey Nets
21. Denver Nuggets
22. San Antonio Spurs
23. Chicago Bulls
24. Phoenix Suns
25. Miami Heat
26. LA Lakers
27. Houston Rockets
28. Detroit Pistons
29. Dallas Mavericks
30. Cleveland Cavaliers

New Orleans now have a shot against the top 2 prospects in this draft. Greg Oden of Ohio State and Kevin Durant of Texas.

Looking good so far. 3 picks in the first round. Hope you draft some good players. I think you should draft Durant and trade Stojakovic for a SG. Or maybe you'll just get lucky drafting Oden. Anyways good luck with this dynasty!

Yeah, you've got three good pieces of young talent for the picking. Eddie Jones for Jermaine O'Neal and AK-47 for Dirk were...eeshish trades.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing this, hopefully it doesn't get wiped like last time.

Good luck ... getting either Durant or Oden should put you in playoff contention next season, if not championship contention.

Do you plan on playing the season or are you simming it?

I am currently 19 games into my Hornets Dynasty and will put it up here sometime this week. I am playing all games of the 06/07 season ...

And those trades are somewhat weird ... apparently the CPU only looks for the money matching, otherwise Jermaine O'Neal for Eddie Jones would never, ever have happened. Kirilenko for Nowitzki ... well, thats closer, but Cuban wouldn't even trade Nowitzki for Shaq or KG, so I doubt he'd trade him for AK47. But hey, if the CPU thinks this works ... why not :). And Richard Jefferson for K-Mart is 3 kinds of funny :D ...

Anyways ... enough babble ... good luck with the draft and the dynasty.

I simmed the first season so I could get to the 07-08 season. Anyway, I'm going to be simming the first 3 quarters of every game and play the 4th. ;)

Nice games with Durant! Peja with 5-5 3PT in the 4th quarter!

Anyway, excellent formatting, although I'd prefer if you changed the colours for the headings to a darker tone of teal/blue (yes, I know it's the Hornets team colour, but it hurt my eyes when I tried to read them).

Great start to an awesome dynasty!

Thanks, I might change the colours but then again I might stay with them, seeing as they it is the team colour.

Anyway, the next 2 week recap (3 + 4) will be done tomorrow so stay tuned. ;)

Nice to see you bounce back with a win after two losses in the second week. Its only natural that you'd lose to powerhouse teams like Dallas or San Antonio though. Better luck next time you play 'em.

CP3 with the shot

These next 2 weeks would be tough for New Orleans, with none of the games being at home.

New Orleans controlled this game with Durant leading them to Victory.
Durant scored 23 points to go along with 12 Rebounds, 2 Assists and 4 Steals.
Peja had another great game scoring 26 points, but only hitting 1/8 from beyond the arc.
Joakim Noah played 3 minutes more than starter David West this game. He was more of a presence of the defensive end rather than the offensive end. He scored 5 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 1 assist.
Corey Maggette, Cuttino Mobley and Shaun Livingston all had great games scroing 25, 23 and 21 respectivly.
Surprisingly, Elton Brand scored no points at all and took no shots at all, though he got 12 rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Block and 1 Steal in 34 minutes of playing time.

    vs. Phoenix Suns - Away - Loss - 95-90

Image
Paul steals it off Nash

After being outscored 40-57 in the first half, the Hornets made a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Suns 28-18.
In the fourth it was also a close game but the Hornets didn't have enough in them to pull out the victory. They once again outscored the Suns though this time only by 2, thus losing the game by 5.
Kevin Durant had yet another great game, he had 15 Points, 9 Rebounds, 7 Assists, 2 Steals and 1 Block shooting 6/11 from the field.
Peja had a dissapointing game, he scored 20 points though this was whilst shooting 7/19 from the field and 4-10 from beyond the arc.
Steve Nash was the man to take the Suns over the Hornets in this game scoring 28 points and hitting both of his 3 pointers in the final 1:30 of the game.

    vs. Memphis Grizzlies - Away - Win - 89-84

Peja had 36 points and was one of the main reasons that New Orleans won this game.
Chris Paul also just missed out on a double-double getting 21 points and 8 assists.

Paul ran down the shot clock and took a shot, but he was blocked by Martin who then stole the ball. Martin then ran down the shot clock and with 2 seconds left in the game he launched a 3 and made it.
Chris Paul was the Hornets player of the game with 15 Points and 12 assists.
Bibby was the man that took the Kings to victory in this game, scoring 23 points.

    vs. Seattle Supersonics - Away - Win - 92-75

Durant hustles for the loose ball

The Sonics had a really off game, from the field they only shot 27/75.
Ray Allen, who was doing most of the work had a minor injury after a collision with Kevin Durant. But he managed to get back into the game.
Kevin Durant had an amazing game. He scored 22 points, got 6 boards, 1 assist, and an phenomenal 7 Steals!
