INSIDE THE NUGGETS: NOVEMBER

November is finally over so let's round things up with the first monthly issue of the INSIDE THE NUGGETS.

Image
Marcus Camby
Key stats: 16.6ppg | 12.7rpg | 3.44bpg

Camby has provided the Nuggets with some solid gameplay averageing over 16 points and almost 13 rebounds. He also leads the league in blocks per game. Camby is 3rd in the league in offensive rebounds per game (4.3), 10th in defencive rebounds per game (8.3) and and 5th in total rebounds per game (12.7). His huge blocking ability makes him a good defencive player and someone to be feared under the basket.

Image
Kenyon Martin
Key stats: 25.4ppg | 13.6rpg | 2.67bpg

Martin is off to a very good season. A power player on offense with over 25 PPG (14th in the league) makes him a headace for every team. He is 2nd in the league in RPG and first in DRPG (9.2). Kevin Garnett was lucky to come away with this months Western Conference Player award considering Martins effort.

Image
Carmelo Anthony
Key stats: 24.8ppg | 5.9rpg | 3.9apg

Anthony also is having a great season. He is the main guy in Nuggets's offense. Only in his second season in the NBA, he's averageing almost 25PPG to go along with 5.9 RPG and 3.9 APG.

Image
Voshon Lenard
Key stats: 11.1ppg | 1.9apg | 0.25spg

Lenard's contract will expire in the end of this season. His future in the Nuggets greatly depends on how good he plays this season. 11 PPG is OK but the Nuggets are looking for someone who can also pass the ball and is a good team/devencive player. Lenard did save the Nuggets in the game against the Bucks, scoring 31 points.

Image
Andre Miller
Key stats: 8.4ppg | 5.8apg | 1.11spg

Miller's contract will also expire this year. But due to his great point guard skills he will likely be resigned. Miller is hoped to improve his average on assists per game, as the season continues.

Image
Earl Boykins
Key stats: 4.7ppg | 2.7apg | 0.67spg

Boykins is currently the shortest player in the NBA. But he is also one of the quickest. Not averageing a lot of points or assists at the moment, we are told that he will get more time on the court as the season continues.

Image
NENE
Key stats: 5.2ppg | 5.3rpg | 0.56bpg

The Nuggets are very happy to have NENE on their team. He is a player who you can rely upon. NENE gets a fair amount of minutes and if either Camby or Martin will get injured, will step up on the starting 5. His contract will expire at the end of this season but hi will likely be resigned.

Image
DerMarr Johnson
Key stats: 5.3ppg | 1.5rpg | 1.0apg

Johnson is another player who's contract runs out this year. He currently holds the back-up SF position, but only time will show if he gets resigned. His lack of devencive awerness doesn't help him here.

Image
Earl Watson
Key stats: 2.8ppg | 0.8apg

Watson has not been getting much minutes at the start of this season. He is the third point guard on the team and will likeliy be traded this season.

Image
Julius Hodge
Key stats: 3.7ppg | 2.3rpg | 2.7apg

After sitting on the IR for the first three games, Hodge has started in 4 of his 6 games. Coach seems to have a lot of confidence in him. Hodge has not posted impressive numbers so far but he has shown himself as a good defencive player.

Image
Eduardo Najera
Key stats: 2.0ppg | 3.3rpg

Najera hasn't gotten a lot of play time so far. He has to fight for his position as the back-up PF. Might be traded this season.

Image
Fransico Elson
Key stats: 4.1ppg | 3.1rpg | 0.71bpg

Has played in seven games so far. Like Najera, he also hasn't gotten a lot of minutes on the court. Contract expires this year and likely he will not be resigned.

Image
Greg Buckner
Key stats: 9.0ppg | 2.0rpg | 2.3apg

Buckner played the first three games and now sits on the IR. During those games he showed some great abilities. Waiting for his return to the active roster.

Image
Linas Kleiza
N/A

Has not played any games so far.

Image
Bryon Russell
N/A

Has not played any games so far. Contract expires, if not traded he will not be resigned by the Nuggets again.

nice dynasty, but i just couldn't believe when you said "Najera hasn't gotten a lot of play time so far."

yeah, trading him would be a nice idea.

i think you should trade najera+earl watson and get someone else,

and i think you should keep greg buckner in subs.

nice dynasty, hope that you'll beat all of them!!!

good luck...

I'll look into that trade idea. Buckner is on the IR right now because Lenard is a Shooter and I'd like Hodge to develop. I had a sim dynasty a while back and he became an 80 overall.

Recap:

The Nuggets started without Carmelo due to his sore thumb. Julius Hodge got a chance to prove himself. It looked to be a difficult game for the Nuggets who couldn't rely on Anhony. The Bulls took the lead on the first possession and they managed to keep it til the end. Nuggets were a mess defesevly and there was noone to go to on offense. Lenard failed to hit a shot and Nuggets fell behind big. Hodge looked confident but was forced to leave the game due to some early fouls. A few minutes later Kenyon Martin joined him. The Bulls on the other hand were having a terrific night as they won the first quarter 31 to 20. T. Chandler looked sharp with 7 rebounds.
Georg Karl tried to find the right lineup but failed as the Bulls increased their lead to as much as 19. In the end of the second quarter Earl Boykins took the game on himself and slowly the Nuggets reduced the decifit to 11.
With a good defensive effort the Nuggets got back into the game early in the third. And if that wasn't enough, Ben Gordon got his fourth foul and was taken out of the game. Soon after that Kenyon Martin got his fourth and was also forced on the bench. But with the help of Boykins and NENE, the Nuggets got within 4. They fell apart again after that, as the Bulls led by 10 after three quarters of play.
Nuggets kept on fighting and after a 3 pointer by Lenard, they were down by only one with 3:06 remaining. It was a thight game until the end. The crowd went nuts after every basket that was made by the Nuggets. Only 9 seconds remaining in the fourt, the Nuggets were down by 3 and took their last timeout. Lenard had to take the shot. Hodge passes to Boykins, he draws the defenders on him, passes to Lenard for the open shot. Wide open and he misses it. A quick foul put Hinrick on the line with only 0.7 left on the clock. Hinrick was 1 from 2 and the Bulls were able to come away with the victory.

The Nuggets have lost their 3rd straight game and all of them were lost in the final minute.

Post-game facts:
* T. Chandler won POG with 14 points and 20 rebounds
* Gordon and Hinrich combined for 48 points
* Boykins led the Nuggets with 22 points (11/18)
* Anthony only scored 2 points
* Camby and Martin combined for 25 rebounds and 6 blocks
* NENE was 12 and 8 off the bench
* The Nuggets lost their third straight

Melo is suffering from a minor injury from the last game, he will be fine for the next game.
The game was very fun actually. When we made the comback in the last minutes, the crowd went really nuts. Too bad we lost.

Nuggets trade for LaFrentz

The first trade of the season has been made. It included two teams: Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics.
After playing the Bulls, Nuggets had 21 days off. There were rumors about Nuggets makeing a trade to strenghten their bench.
The Nuggets looked at a lot of teams, but most offers were rejected. However, negotiations with the Celtics were successfull. The Nuggets traded Earl Watson and Eduardo Najera for Reaf LaFrents.
By doing that, Nuggets got an average rebounder, a big player with a nice jumpshot and someone who has played for them in the past. LaFrents averaged 14.9PPG, 7.4RPG and 3.0BPG for the Nuggets in the 2001-02 season.
LaFrents will play his first game for Nuggets on 23rd of December 2005 against the Indiana Pacers.

Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin both had a superb game as the Nuggets took a much desired win. MC had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks after the first quarter. Recap:
DENVER, December 31

Detroit won their 14th game straigth, topping the Nuggets in Denver

Nuggets knew that the key to success today was how good they work on defense. They managed to hold the Pistons on 0 for the first two minutes. MC and K-Mart, "the Big Duo", combined for 15 blocks.

Nuggets won the first quarter 31:25. The Pistons struggeled, having only one assist in this quarter. Carmelo led the way with 13 first quarter points, followed by Hodge who had 8. Ben Wallace had 6 points, 7 rebounds and Prince had 7 points.

The second quarter started with a 15-0 Pistons run as they took over the lead. It was a hard battle, but Denver was able to take a 65:64 lead at the half.

The Pistons started to move away in the third. Billups had a terrific night with 37 points and 7 assists. Nuggets were down by 7 in the end of the third, despite K-Marts 11 points. Melo only had 3 in this quarter.

Both teams played beautiful basketball but the Nuggets were not able to get the lead back. Another hard loss at home.

Nuggets hope to improve their record in the following games against Toronto, Wizards, Lakers and Minnesota

Post-game facts:

*Billups was POG with 37 points, 7 assists and 4 steals
*Anthony led the Nuggets with 39 points
*MC and K-Mart combined for 15 blocks
*The Nuggets only had 12 points form the bench

Without Billups I would have won it for sure.
Are the scores too big? I mean I've only had 2 games with one team scoring under 100 points.

Yes that has been the problem this season. Miller and Boykins have their FG ratings below 70 so I'm afraid to use them on critical moments. They do nail most of the shots when they're open but it's still a gamble.

INSIDE THE NUGGETS - DECEMBER ISSUE

It's the end of December and time for another "Inside the Nuggets" issue. This month we will only consentrate on 3 players.

Image
Marcus Camby
Average stats: 18.9ppg | 13.2rpg | 4.15bpg
November stats: 16.6ppg | 12.7rpg | 3.44bpg
December stats: 24.3ppg | 14.3rpg | 5.75bpg

Marcus Camby is a very valuable player for the team. He leads the league in blocks per game. He has an average of 18.9 PPG and 13.2 RPG. Camby had two 30+ point games in december and had duble-dubles in all games. He's a big threat down-low with his exellent blocking ability. He is not a scorer, but does get a lot of second chance oppertunities. He gives 100% of himself in every game and is a big factor in the games outcome.

Kenyon Martin
Average stats: 26.1ppg | 12.9rpg | 2.92bpg
November stats: 25.4ppg | 13.6rpg | 2.67bpg
December stats: 27.5 | 11.5rpg | 3.50bpg

Despite all rumors that Martin will never be as good as he was before the injury, he has had the season of his life. K-Mart has an average of 26.1 PPG and 12.9 RPG. He is second in blocks per game, just behind his team-mate Marcus Camby. Martin had a career high 37 points against Indiana, the only game Nuggets were able to win in December. Then he had another career high 8 blocks against Detroit. Teamed up with Marcus they are just unstoppable.

Julius Hodge
Average stats: 6.2ppg | 2.5rpg | 2.9apg
December stats: 3.7ppg | 2.3rpg | 2.7apg
November stats: 10ppg | 2.8rpg | 3.25apg

This rookie has really stepped up his game. He was a starter against the Bulls when Anthony was injured and has started in every game since. George Karl seems to have a lot of confidence in him. But Julius has earned his starting position, showing his abilities. He does tend to take some shots even Melo would not take, but he does nail most of them. And he has shown himself as a good defender as well. We all remeber how he kept Ray Allen to only 13 points. He just might develop to a superstar.
