Knicks at Wizards

Knicks Win the Season Opener 84-74

This was an interesting game, and my first after picking up the knicks. It started off with an early Knicks lead in the first, and it stayed that way throughout the game. Maurice Taylor was key coming off the bench as a rebounder and putback man. He wins sixth man of the game. Quinton Richardson provided the offensive spark when Francis and Marbury were out, finishing the game with 10 points. Jalen Rose helped close out the game, knocking down almost every jumpshot he took in the 2nd half, several from behind the arc.

Key Player Stats:

Knicks
Steve Francis: 19 pts| 2 Rebounds| 2 Assists| 2 Steals
Jalen Rose: 18 pts
Stephon Marbury: 12 Pts| 6 Assists
Eddie Curry: 6pts| 13 Rebounds
Maurice Taylor| 8 pts| 10 Rebounds

Wizards
Caron Butler: 17pts
Gilbert Arenas: 10pts| 6 assists
Brendon Haywood: 13pts| 10 Rebounds

Gilbert Arenas was quiet tonight, which was in part because of Steve Francis' lockdown defense. Caron Butler was able to take advantage when Jamaal Crawford and Quinton Richardson came in undersized at small forward.

i was going to add pics but i posted it first without the pics, then i was going to get the pics and edit the post, then i got a blue screen on my pc and decided i was done for the night. The nxt day the forums are down, so i'll update pics soon, i've played about six games in the time the forums have been down so i'll resume the games shortly.

Wed Mar 01, 2006 5:09 pm

Just an update for everyone.

This Dynasty is going to be resumed now that the forums are up. In the absence of the forums i've playing five games, four of them miserable. A 1-4 record has put the overall knicks record to 30-31, yet they still retain the 7 spot in the east. If things keep up they will make the playoffs.

Jamaal Crawford has been big coming off the bench. In three out of the last five games he has scored over 30 points as the sixth man. Coach Larry Brown is concerned about how the performance of crawford is effecting the record of the team. In every game that Crawford has scored 30 points or more, the team has lost.

"He can be a streaky shooter," Said Coach Larry Brown, "Right now we're just trying to find a spot that fits for him. Not a spot that scores all of our points."

make those playoffs man

good luck

Thu Mar 02, 2006 12:08 pm

i would but its past the trade deadline

for now im trying to keep the central knicks unit and see how they will turn out. Of course trades are always in the back of my mind with all the salary cap issues, and no big contracts expiring at the end of the season.

Knicks able to hold of Pistons at the Garden

The Detroit Pistons couldnt muster enough to get past the New York Knicks tonight. The Knicks, who have been cold of late, look as though they've found the right spot for everyone on their team, and it all came together for them.

They defeated the pistons 97 to 89 tonight, holding every Piston, with the exception of Antonio McDyess (22pts) under 20 points. Stephon Marbury was the high man for the Knicks with a whopping 42 points on 19 for 28 shooting, including a three pointer and three free throws. His defense was also key for the Knicks. He had two steals and held the trio of Pistons point guards (Chauncy Billups, Lindsey Hunter, and Royal Ivey) to just 15 points total. The game was within a few points until the fourth quarter began and Marbury erupted for 22 points to seal the Knicks win.

Key Players of the Game

Knicks
Stephon Marbury: 42 pts| 2 steals
Steve Francis: 23 pts| 3 assists| 2 steals
Quinton Richardson: 11 pts (all in the first half)| 2 steals

Pistons
Antonio McDyess: 22 pts| 8 rebounds
Rasheed Wallace: 18 pts| 7 rebounds
Tayshaun Prince: 14 pts| 4 rebounds| 2 steals

Player of the Game
Stephon Marbury... With 42 points, his lockdown defense and 22 points in the fourth quarter helped seal the deal for a much needed Knicks win.

Quinton Richardson scoring 2 of his 11 first half points.

Eddie Curry scoring his only 2 points of the game. He also had 9 rebounds

Coach Larry Brown was interviewed after tonights game.

What was the big difference between tonights game and the last couple of games you've played?

finishing our stops. In the last couple of games we've been able to get stops, but we've never been able to turn them into points on the other end. We've taken bad shots that have allowed the other team to get out on the fast break and score on us. Thats where most of our points are allowed, in the fast break. Tonight we made our opponent work their points.

Did you ask Stephon Marbury to start shooting the ball more, or did he go off on his own?

I told Stephon he needed to step up and realize his role of leader on this team, and if that mean scoring, so be it. In the last five games he has only scored 20 points once, his other games he's scored in the low teens. I believe that was one of the reasons that lead to our 1-5 record over the past 6 games. I had no idea he'd go off for 42, but it ended up working out for us. He solidified our victory.

Have other players on this team begun to realize their new roles?

we've played 8 games since we've aquired Steve Francis, and in those 8 games we've won three. When ever you make a big move, it takes times for teams to adjust, and i believe we're starting to make our adjustment. With this trade, we've kept Steve at the 2 guard and it has knocked Jamaal Crawford out of the starting lineup. Just a few weeks earlier we brought in Jalen Rose and that knocked Quinton Richardson out of the starting lineup. Both those guys are used to being starters, and they've needed some time to adjust to their new roles. I believe Quinton has realized his role. He sparked a good run for us late in the second half by scorying 11 straight points for us in just a few minutes. Jamaal has had a tougher time. He would most likely be a starter on any other team, and we've tried to give him more minutes by puting him at the 3 spot, but against bigger teams we need our bigger guys like Richardson and Rose to play the 3. Jamaal is adjusting, but he hasnt quite done it fully yet. When he realizes his new role, i see this franchise being a title contender.

Knicks blow through Raptors

It wasnt much of a contest tonight. The Knicks took the lead early and it stayed that way throughout the entire game. Turnovers were the key factor here. The raptors commited and astonishing 35 turnovers. The Knicks had 19 team steals, and that was in part of the back court trio of Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury, and Jamaal Crawford. Steve Francis was tonight's high point man with 31 points, while the Player of the Game was Stephon Marbury with 22 points, 2 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals.

Here are the Key Players of tonights game

Knicks
Steve Francis: 31 pts| 2 rebounds| 2 assists| 4 steals
Stephon Marbury: 22 pts| 2 rebounds| 8 assists| 4 steals
Eddie Curry: 14pts| 18 rebounds| 2 assists| 2 blocks| 1 steal
Jamaal Crawford: 13 pts| 3 assists| 2 rebounds| 2 steals| 1 block

Raptors
Chris Bosh: 20 pts| 6 rebounds
Charlie Villanueva: 9 pts| 14 rebounds
Morris Peterson: 20 pts| 3 rebounds| 3 assists
Jose Calderon: 12 pts| 5 rebounds| 5 assists

The Raptors were without Mike James tonight, and that killed them in the back court. The Raptors commited 35 turnovers, and most of those were forced passes or stolen balls by the Knicks back court.

"We've become so much better defensively," Larry Brown commented, "I believe this franchise is going to go great places. We've been able to force a lot of pressure, and make defensive plays, that we havent been able to make in the past. Everyone has really stepped up."
