Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale decided to make a move that he would hope would uplift the spirits of the fans that were begining to wonder if the Ricky Davis trade was all he had in for changes with the team this year. With the record stand at a dissapointing 26-26 at the AllStar break, McHale wasn't sure if this was a deal that ALL fans would love, but it was one that hopefully most would. Steph is back. And he's bringing some friends with him.

The Minnesota Timberwolves Trade:

McHale's hope after all this is that with KG and Steph back together again, there will be photoshoots like the one that they would do together in the old days.

Stephon in Minny...I keep forgetting these things. After players move to new teams, I forget what old team they used to play on... :?

Good start.

This was by far one of the most exciting games that I have ever played. It's Stephon Marbury's return home to Minnesota, we are playing our division rival Denver Nuggets. Oh and by the way, KG hit a last second shot to win it.

Game Summary:
The Wolves started off with a nice run, Stephon getting 4 assists in the first quarter. Those assits include one no look pass to our defensive stopper Trenton Hassell. Hassell can do more than just defend. he finished with 8 points. Kevin Garnett was Kevin Garnett finishing with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 blocks. Stephon Marbury was definitley forgiven by the fans with his 19 points, 9 assists and 2 steals, while only commitig 2 turnovers which is very good for a point guard. KG and Steph scored the last 12 points for the wolves edging the Denver Nuggets 92-91.
Image

The Game Winning Shot
We were already up 90-88 with 23.8 seconds to go in the game. And with about 9 seconds to go, Andre Miller throws up a three. I'm thinking that there is no way that this can go in. He doesn't shoot 3's! He made it. so I called a timeout so I could pass it out from halfcourt. I run the PF scorer play with about 5 seconds left. it falls in to KG's hands. he puts it up over Francisco Elson (Martin was hurt at the time) and it falls with no time left. The bench goes crazy as the shot goes through the hoop. It's only fitting that is would be a pass from Steph and a shot from KG to win it.

The Minnesota Timberwolves lose a heartbreaker to the New Jersey Net's big three of Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, and Jason Kidd. They finished for a combined 87 points. Clifford Robinson was blocking shots left and right, finishing with 5.

Image
Garnett in his talk to the media after the game said:"I'm obviously upset that we lost, we need to learn each other and what each other's tendencies are." (regarding the new players)

The key matchup tonight was Stephon Marbury and Jason Kidd, due to thier rivalry on and off the court. Both have been on "Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith" (terrible show) stating that they are better than eachother. Kidd finished with 27 points and 8 assists while Marbury finished with 18 points and 11 assists.

Final Score (OT): Minnesota-109
New Jersey-112

I don't know how I forgot to write this so I'll just type it quickly. I traded Ronald Dupree to Seattle for Mikki Moore to fill in the backup C duties for this year.
Good move?

After losing two in a row, the Minnesota Timberwolves traveled to Los Angeles. The city that belongs to Kobe Bryant. The Wolves were hungry. They needed this win to get themselves over the hump and to take the divison lead.

Image

In the first half, the Lakers came out with the guns blazing, ecspecially Kobe. He had 30 in the first half. Everyone on the wolves knew that Kobe was a great player who was capable of getting numbers like these, but Trenton Hassell said in the Fox Sports Net halftime interview; "I expect much more of myself out there. Kobe's a great player, and I'm going to have to figure out what I need to do to slow him down a little bit, which I hope will lead to a victory."

Image

Trenton Hassell went into halftime both dissapointed and amazed by Kobe Bryant's 30 point performance leading the Lakers to a 58-46 lead. He (Hassell) was sure that that same thing would not happen again in the next half. He was right. Kobe finished the game with only 35 points due to an amazing defensive performance by Trenton Hassell. Oh yeah. Steph had a season high 17 assists, Kg had his usual double double with 27 points, and 15 rebounds, along with 6 assists. The Wolves came out of this one victoriuos

Wolves-112

With the division title on the line, the Minnesota Timberwolves had a tough assignment near the end of the year. They needed this to clinch the division title that the second place Denver Nuggets had previously held for most of the season. The only thing standing in their way. The defending chapmion San Antonio Spurs.

Image

In the first quarter Tony Parker dominated. He finished the quarter with 12 points and 2 dimes. With that performance the Spurs took a commanding 32-21 lead

Image

On to quarter number two. Rookie Rashad McCants came out firing. He finshed the game with 15 and 10 in that quarter alone. The Spurs still lead though. 58-50

In quarter number 3, The Wolves were struggling to even get rim. But with five minutes to go, Stephon Marbury hit a three. Down by ten. KG gets a block. Throws it out to Steph. He takes a three. Money. A steal now by Trenton Hassell. Throws it up to Channing Frye for an amazing alley-oop. The Wolves broght the lead down to just 2 going into the 4th quarter.

Image
Two future first ballot Hall of Famers for sure

If you've been wondering where KG has been in all of his other than the pass to Steph, he only had 8 points going into the fourth quarter. He did NOT want to be shown up by his long time rival Tim Duncan, who at the time had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Garnett Started the quarter with an alley-oop pass from Marcus Banks. Now we'll skip to the end. Garnett had hit 8, that's right, 8 in a row and the Wolves were up by eight. but then Manu Ginobli came back in. 3 pointer right away. Then he steals it from Trenton Hassell and hits another 3. It's a two point game with 8 seconds left. The Wolves get the ball in to Steph. the Spurs quickly foul. He misses both!! So the Spurs call a timeout. Their play is set up for Tim Duncan down low. He gets the ball. 5...4....3.. puts it up..... blocked by Kevin Garnett and the game is over!!!! The Wolves have clinched te number 3 seed!! KG finished with 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Round 1
The Wolves came out swinging in game 1, KG had 33 against the rival Denver Nuggets. While Carmelo Anthony has figured out how to get around thw Wolves lockdown defender Trenton Hassell, he still could not manage to lead his team to victory in game 1.

Score
Wolves-100
Nuggets-83

Image

In game 2, It was once again Kevin Garnett dominating Kenyon Martin. He had 27 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists. He did that while holding K-Mart to only 9 points and 5 rebounds. But despite all that, the Nuggets won! The reson for that is other than KG, it seemed like no one else showed up to play. Steph had 12,Ricky Davis had 5, but Rashad McCants did pretty well. He had 16 off the bench. Carmelo Anthony was a monster in the game, hitting 15-20 from the field.

Score
Wolves-101
Nuggets-108

Now I'm going to skip games 3, 4, and five and go right to game 6. It was the closest game of the series. If you've looked at the bracket, you will see who came out victorious. But the way it ended is amazing.
In the first quarter, the Wolves made a good run to begin the game with the score at 12-0. George Karl then called a timeout to calm his guys down. The Nuggets seemed to have listened to Karl's words. They went on a 16-4 run. The score at the end of the first was Nuggets-23, Wolves-25.

Image

On to quarter number two. Future stars of the NBA Rashad McCants and Marcus Banks took over in the second. Earl Boykins could for whatever reason get his shot to fall that night. A big part of it was due to Banks' dedication on defense. The play of the game happened in that quarter. 3 seconds left, they give it to Banks. Sprints to 28 foot range. Puts it up..... yes!! The Wolves take a 58-55 lead and the Nuggets crowd is silent!
Image
Garnett knows that this isn't near over.

When the second half came around, the wolves looked sluggish and it seemed like they didn't care. This didn't sit well with Dwane Casey. All of a sudden, their lead had vanished and the Nuggets led 67-55. Then the Wolves turned it around and tied the game up. This had been quite a game. At the end of the third, the score was tied 77-77.
In the final quarter, Dwane Casey went with his best lineup to close out a game. Frye, KG, Ricky, McCants, and Steph. They decided that Trenton Hassell would only come in for McCants if Melo was shooting like the Vice President on a hunting trip. He shot a little, but not so much that it required Hassell to come back in. Any way we move on to the last minute. The score is. What else. Tied. 100-100. With the ball in Stephon Marbury's hands, he decided to call a pick and roll with KG. KG rolled, but Steph was wide open and took the shot. It was good. 30 seconds to go now and the Wolves lead by one. Nugget's possesion. They hold it. And Andre Miller hits a crazy fade away 2 pointer! Dwane Casey calls a timeout. They set up a play to KG. 15...14... Steph is waiting. 11....10....9... The play is being run 7...6...5... KG is double teamed, Rashad McCants is open for 3! Kicked out to McCants. 2...1.. Puts it up...... it's in!!!

Image

Final Score
Wolves-106
Nuggets-104

The Wolves Win the Series 4-2!!

Round 2 Preview
With Steve Nash coming off a 19.8 point 10.2 assits per game season, Stephon Marbury is going to have his hands full. But he doesn't sound worried. "Nash is good, but so am I, the Suns are good, but so are we. I will personally garuntee a win in game 1."
For those remarks, Marbury was kicked out of practice and given a $1,000 fine from coach Casey.

And so the Season Ends. The Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Phoenix Suns in 7 Games All due to Steve Nash. Nash averaged 22.3 points and 11.1 assists per game in that series.

Image

The Wolves seem to have something going. The way they ended the regular season winning the division title after it had been owned by the Denver Nuggets most of the year is pretty special. Look for the Wolves to be even stronger next year.
