Press Conference with new Hawks GM Casey Lee

Casey: Hello, I am the new GM of the Atlanta HAwks and I am very proud and happy to be here. I plan on over the years rebuilding this team to a championship caliber team. I feel there is talent on this team yet to be exposed and young players that have yet to obtain there talent. Some of these players need to learn to use their talent and still have much to learn about the game, but we also have veterans who are here to teach our younger players. I think I will have an accomplished time here with the Atlanta Hawks. That is all. . .

GAME 1

Key Matchup:

Image VS Image

Tale of the Tape:

Tyson Chandler is a yougn talented PF that can play some good defense down low, but alsso great offense. He has great moves and is a force to be reckoned with down low. He has speed and agility to be able to get around players. To stop Chandler Rahim has to force Chandler to pull up for jump shots and keep him out of the paint. Shareef Abdur-Rahim is a veteran who can post up and also drive. He also plays decent defense. To stop Rahim Chandler is gonna have to force him into double teams and force him to go down low where he can get help from Eddy Curry.

1st Quarter:

In the first quarter the Hawks started out good with a 8-2 lead, but the Bulls started to play terrific D and were on fire shooting. Jalen Rose shot fantastic with 14 points in the quarter. The Hawks missed 5 shots in a row although Rahim posted up 8 points. At the end of the 1st waurter the score was Hawks 21 Bulls 29.

2nd Quarter:

In the second the Hawks starter out great shortening the gap to 3, but the HAwks started to miss their shots and the Bulls capitilized on fast breaks making the lead to double digits, but thanks to Rahim getting another 10 points and Theo Ratcliff's great defense down low the Hawks shortened the gap to seven making the score at half, Hawks 39, Bulls 46.

3rd Quarter:

In the third quarter things just wouldn't go the Hawks way and everytime the Bulls came down they sank their shots. It seemed like all of them had Michael Jordan's shooting ablilities. Rahim posted another 8 to make his total 26, but to no preval they were still down 9 at the end of the quarter with the score, Hawks 53 and Bulls 62.

4th Quarter:

The Hawks came out with a new scheme to try and stop the Bulls from doing so well. They rotated the players to put Terry at PG, Jackson SG, Rahim SF, Theo PF, Nazr C. It seemed to help, but not enough. Although the Bulls only scored 6 points this quarter and the Hawks scored 11 the Hawks still lost the game.

Final Score: Hawks 64---Bulls 68

Assists: Jamal Crawford- 9

After Game Press Interviews:

Question: How do you feel on your teams performance in the 4th?

GM Casey Lee: I felt we coudl've won that game if we played like that the whole game. It was partly because of our new scheme, but I'm not sure if it wil lbe a starting scheme, probably just a second half one. I really thought that in the 4th quarter we made huge improvements and hopefully it will rub off on our next game.

Question: Did you feel accomplished since you had a good night shutting down Chandler?

Shareef Abdur-Rahim: I don't think it really matter how good I play individually if our team doesn't win. It's all about teamwork and chemistry which I feel we found in the 4th quarter and I know this team will be going places.[/b]

Nice. I like your recaps (especially your spelling), and your pre-game analysis. I hope this continues. (Y)

You'll get 'em next game, Trigger42. I think you should try that 4th quarter lineup as your new opening lineup b/c it's a strong starting 5.

POST GAME TENSIONThere was plenty of tension between Hawks GM Casey Lee and Coach Terry Stotts. Casey spoke up, "Terry don't worry, i won't let the owner fire you, i know it's not your fault, our team is just not the greatest, but i will work with you to keep your job. You get a gameplan ready for our next game against the PAcers and I'll think of a way to get this team going." Terry looked at Casey, as soon as Casey came into the Hawks industry Terry and him had gotten along, "Thanks Casey, I appreciate it." Terry left the room and shut the door behind him. Casey sat there thinking to himself. He needed to get this team a scoere, a superstar, a leader, someone to get this team into the playoffs. He kept thinking and he decided to call his high school buddy from Detroit, Austin.

"Hello?"

"Austin, it's Casey, i need some help here."

"Hey, big GM is in need of help, no problem how can i help?"

"I need to get someone to get my team up and going, a great star, but humble and a born leader."

"Hmmm, ahh, I got one, Ray Allen, you could offer them like a 3 for 1 trade deal, they have to open spots, I think."

"Good idea, I talk to them after our Pacers game this week, thanks Austin, you are my savior"

"No problem, and good luck, but hey, I wanted to tell you somethin."

"Yes?"

"I got this kid down here, name is Antrelle Whitmore, goes by X-Factor, thought u might be able to come check him out."

"Street baller, I don't need any of those aditudes on my team bro."

"No trust me CAsey, this guy is a born star, he'll be humble about it, I swear."

"I don't know. . ."

"At least come watch him play on eof these days, give me a call and then fly down ehre for a weekend."

"I'll think about it, I know I owe you a couple, so I'l lcall you back later next week"

"Thanks man, nice talking to you"

"Yea, same"

Casey hung up feeling a little less stressed, now he found the player, but how in the world would he get him. Casey knew he needed to get some sleep then come to the office tomorrow to talk to the owner about keeping Stotts till the end of the season to see how good a coach Stotts can be. He left the office and went to his car. He go tin and drove off to a sports bar. He sat at the bar without taking a drink. Sammy the bartender spoke up first. . .

"Yo Case, somethin botherin ya?"

"Yea, I got a lot on my mind Sam, owner wants to fire Stotts, I'm thinking how to get Ray Allen and my fri. . ."

Casey was interrupted by the man on the other side of the bar. . .

"Big Ray Ray! Man it would be great havin him here in Atlanta, finally the Hawks are starting to get some brains in the front office."

Casey looked over at Sammy and Sammy spoke first. . .

"Big fan, been comin here for years."

"I see, but as i was saying, I talked to Austin, he says he knows this street baller who goes by the name of X-Factor. Austin wants me to come down and see this kid play."

"Wow, Austin livin in Detroit now, man, i remember you two kids cleanin up around here for me, but anyways, Idon't know what to say, peolpe could get mad about him being on the team, I mean a high flyer like our old Wilkins is good, but he could ruin our teams reputation, peole could get mad and think we have to resort to gangstas."

"I got a lot to think about, I'm gonna hit the hay"

"Night"

Casey walked to the back of the bar and opened a door, he walked upstairs and up into a hallway he went. there were two doors, one appartment to the left, Sammy and his wife's, and the right appartment, Casey's. . .CAsey hadn't had a great job before this. He coached some high school b-ball while workin downtown at a wood mill. Sammy let him stay in this appt. as long as CAsey payed rent. Casey always came to the bar to watch sports games when he was little, Sammy let him go in a back room, and SAmym would give him and Austin soda pop and burgers on the house. Now the two have grown up, Austin coaching baseball at Michigan University and Casey being a GM for the Hawks. Casey lay in bed and stared at teh ceiling. He finally dosed off around 3:30 in the morning. . .

Casey sat at his desk on the phone with the Sonics GM.

"I don't know, that's giving a lot" said Casey.

"It's Ray Allen, you said you needed a superstar and born leader, so how about it?"

"Three for one?"

"Yes, Theo, Boris, and Travis."

"Fine, it's official?"

"Yes"

Theu hung up the phones simutaneously. Casey sat there at his desk and decided to drive to the Hawks arena where the team was practicing. He got there and sat in the coaches office. When practice finally ended. The coach Terry Stotts walked into the office suprised to see Casey sitting in his chair.

"Terry, get Travis, Theo, and Boris in here."

"They're. . ."

"Yes, Ray Allen, get them in here"

"Yea okay." Terry left the room and about 30 seconds later entered with the three players. Terry went and stood by the window, he shut the blinds and the three players came in and stood at the desk facing Casey.

"Okay, sorry guys, but we thought to make this team better we needed a pure scorer and a born leader, so you three have been traded to Seattle. We hope you guys make it in Seattle and are sorry it had to end like this." Casey saw Theo's dissapointment. Travis and Boris, who never liked the industry that much didn't seem to care, maybye they would get playing time in Seattle. Casey stood up shook all the players hands nodded to the coach and left the office. He left the arena and went and sat in his car. The players came out at different times. Coach Stotts came out and say Casey sitting in his car. He walked over to the car. . .

"Hey Casey, you waiting for Theo?"

"Yea, where is he?"

"He is in on the court, wouldn't talk to anybody."

"Okay, thanks."

Coach Stotts left to his car. Casey got out of his car and walked over to the arena. He entered the locker room and came to the door leading to the arena. He took a deep breath and walked through. He walked through the tunnel and for a second he forgot about everything, the trade, the losses, everything. . . He started to imagine himself bein ga player in the NBA, coming out of the tunnel, the crowd roaring and chanting. . .Casey, Casey, Casey, Casey. . . The announcer would call him out. . ."Starting at guard, Caaaaasssey Leeeeeee. Then Casey's thoughts were interuppted by the bounce of a ball. Theo was still in his practice uniform shooting around. Casey stood there for a while, Theo shot and he missed, the ball came Casey's way, he picked it up and shot, of course Casey missed. "I'm a little rusty" Casey said. Theo didn't say anything. Casey went and sat in the stands.

"Theo, come here" Theo walked over and sat down about three rows under Casey. "I wanted to talk to you about the trade, anything You want to say?"

". . ."

"Theo, you can talk to me."

"It's just. . .sir, I feel like me being traded is me not being good enough, me being a failure, like being cut from the team."

Casey didn't know what to say, "Theo, the NBA is a business, if it was about friends and keeping the ones you liked, you would be here, but I needed a pure scorer, someone to pull up and hit jump shots and threes. Another thing is Theo, this won't be the last time, everyone is traded, This wil lbe Ray's third team for crying out loud, it just happens, but I am sorry about it Theo." Theo sat there not talking, speechless, Casey was wondering if he got through to him.

"Thanks sir. . .I mean coach, if that's okay."

"Not much of a coach, but I guess it's fine for now, good luck in Seattle."

"Thanks, nice playing for you."

Casey shook his hand and left the arena. He went to the car turned the ignition and it was off to Sammy's bar, home. . .
