On Inside the NBA:

Ernie: Tonight's game featured the cross river rivals New Jersey and New York. New Jersey won with a score of 94-80. Charles, its the start of the season. Vince Carter had 36 points on 15/24 shooting and shot 2/5 from beyond the arc. He had 6 rebounds and 4 assists to go with his 36 points. The million dollar question; can he maintain that kind of performance throughout the season? Your thoughts, since you were the one who named him half-man half a season

Barkley: First of all Ernie, its too early to tell. its just the beginning of the season. And if he does put up consistent numbers this season, thats because he has RJ and Kidd to take some load off of him. You also have to consider that the Knicks have no player on the same level as VC that could at least contain him. They dont even have enough players to contain RJ for that matter.

Kenny: You told the world when VC first got to NJ that he will be their third best player, how come now, your tone indicates that he's the best on that lineup?

Barkley: Vince is the best player on that team now. But Kidd will always be the leader of that team. But its still too early to tell if Vince will be consistent. He hasnt even faced the likes of a T-Mac or a Kobe in this season.

Ernie: Which brings me to my next question. The Lakers are next in line for the Nets. No doubt Vince and Kobe will be the Marquee matchup there. What do you think will happen in that game?

Barkley: I think the Nets are gonna take that one. As great as Kobe is, the Nets are too deep for the Lakers this season. But you have to consider that Phil Jackson is back on the sidelines. If the players respond to the triangle offense that worked for Jackson then they have a chance. And as far as the Vince - Kobe matchup, I think it will favor Kobe since Vince as not as good as a defender as Kobe and he will not repeat what he did to Stephon on Kobe. Look, I kissed Kenny's donkey when Yao scored 19 on his first season, but that was more possible than Vince dunkin on Kobe. Half-man Half-amazing is no more

Kenny: so you're saying that you will kiss my donkey's behind again if Vince somehow dunks on Kobe this Friday? Is that what you're saying?

Barkley: that will not happen again because Vince will not be able to get the ball in the first place if Kobe guards him much like dunk on him? And yes, I will kiss your donkey's behind again if Vince dunks on Kobe this Friday.

Ernie: So there you go, Charles made another bet and will kiss "Kenny" again if Vince Carter can dunk on Kobe Bryant this Friday. This game I have to see. I sure hope Vince Carter can be at his flying best again this Friday because I wouldn't miss "Charles donkey kisser" the sequel

It's pretty good, I like the pics, but if you really want to make this a longlasting dynasty, bring some more structure into it. Like post your roster, settings etc. first. (Y)

5-time MVP Michael Jordan

Stephen A Smith: Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Tonight on quite frankly with Stephen A Smith, we have arguably one if not the best player of all time, Michael Jordan.

[Jordan waving while audience cheers]

Stephen A Smith: Thanks for being here with us Michael.

Jordan: Thanks for having me here

Stephen A Smith: After your retirement, everyone was looking for the next you. And Quite Frankly, the closest comparison to you is that of Kobe. You have very similar moves on the court. The difference is the attitude. Kobe Bryant is not a media darling like you and he had Shaq when he won those 3 rings, now he's out there to prove that he can do it without Shaq. You think he can be the next you?

Jordan: (giggles) No.

[audience laughing]

Stephen A Smith: The Lakers and the Nets will battle tomorrow. Vince Carter, who was also considered as the heir apparent will be facing Kobe tomorrow. We all know that its Nets vs. Lakers but we can't keep our eye off these 2 players tomorrow. Your thoughts on the 2 athletes.

Jordan: no doubt these are 2 great competitors. Kobe was luckier because he had such a good team and he never had to experience the injury that Vince had in the past. I think Kobe's over competitiveness got the better of him because he wanted to be the best player so bad that he stepped on other's foot to do it. Carter on the other had was a blessed athlete. Those injuries started to affect his game and bad things piled up in Toronto. He's been doing great in New Jersey and I for one would be looking for that matchup tomorrow.

Stephen A Smith: its Phil's first game back since the dynasty breakup of the Lakers. You think Phil can bring back the Lakers to the playoffs at least? with only 29 games in the season, every game counts and you can't afford to lose.

Jordan: i dont think its fair to put all the load on Phils back. but its his job to make sure that every player responds to him. The key for the Lakers tomorrow is for other players to step up. No doubt Kobe will get his numbers. But he must also see to it that other players will get involved during that process. I'm looking forward to that game.

Stephen A Smith: Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Jordan.

[audience applauds]

Stephen A Smith: Once again thank you Mr. Jordan for being here with us tonight.

Jordan: Thanks for having me.

Stephen A Smith: that's all the time we have for tonight. goodnight everybody.

After the Nets practice session:

Vince: Man, i did a good game against the Knicks. My FG% is a decent one. But all I did that game was drive hard because i found a whole on Q's and Jamal's defense. I bet that wont work much against Kobe. I need to work on my shooting more...

Image

Vince: And for old time's sake!!! Here I come!!!!

Image

After 50 more 3 point FG attempted:

Voice: well, someone's getting pretty worked up today

Vince: oh its you RJ

RJ: you're taking this as a personal challenge aren't you? well, if you want that jumpshot to work, you need to have defender.

Vince: OK, be my guest, but you might get overworked for tomorrow. I'm telling you, I won't hold back even if this is practice and you're my teammate

RJ: ok.. its your ball..

Vince: Here goes... That's money baby!!!!

Image

RJ: Man you are ready!! And you tellin me something bout being overworked!! You're beggining to think that I'm actually Kobe are you?

...
.....
.......
.........
...........

...

Vince: Maybe I am!!!!!

Image

Uh-oh, Charles, better hope this doesn't happen to Kobe!!!!! Or else you'll get reacquainted to Kenny

Pregame:

Ernie: Good evening everyone and welcome to tonight's game featuring the New Jersey Nets going up against the Los Angeles Lakers. This is the season opener for the Lakers and the Nets are coming off 14 point victory against the Knicks. This game will also feature the highly anticipated matchup between Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant.

Kenny: That's right Ernie. And this matchup may even outstage the fact that this is also Phil Jackson's first game back after a 1 year retirement. I think we have Charles to thank for that specifically, who will join us later at the verizon halftime report.

Ernie: We know of course who Kenny will be rooting for especially in this match.

Kenny: Of course I'll be cheering for Vince tonight, nothing against Kobe, but I for one would like to see Charles get reacquainted to my donkey.

Ernie: Will Phil Jackson have succesful coaching debut again or will J-Kidd and the Nets spoil the Staples party tonight? And will Charles meet Kenny the donkey again? When we return, the tip-off of the much anticipated game, Lakers vs. Nets.

The Verizon wireless halftime report:

Ernie: welcome to the verizon wireless haltime report. The Nets holding a 6 point lead against the Lakers 51 to 45. Joining me this evening Kenny "the jet" Smith and of course Charles Barkley.

Barkley: I cant believe this is happening. This is BULL$#%$!!!!! That's what it is.

Kenny: And not once but twice Charles. That means you Kiss it twice.

Barkley: oh no. No, regardless of how many times Vince dunks on Kobe I only get 1 shot.

Kenny: ok, dont miss Inside the NBA tonight ladies and gentlemen. I'm sure I won't. Let's check out some numbers shall we

Image

Kenny: as advertised, Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant went at it. But Vince came out smoking and already scored 27 first half points, 19 of which came from the 1st quarter. Kobe Bryant went strong in the 2nd quarter scoring 11 points to keep less distance between the 2 teams.

Ernie: no doubt Vince went on firing from all the cylinders on the court. I think he's really up to the challenge here. You have some pictures for us Kenny.

Kenny: Yes and this footage is Charles favorite. I'm sure he's gonna hang this on his wall.

Barkley: oh Shuddup!!!

Image

Kenny: this has been the story of the night. Vince Carter putting on a show tonight. The Vince Carter of old and the New Vince Carter works perfectly well for the Nets. Not only is Vince dunking on people again, he's shooting the lights out in the arena. Look for Kobe though to bounce back on the second half. That's Kobe's favorite time of the game.

Ernie: When we return, second half action live from Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Barkley: That's the last time I'm ever gonna make a bet with you Kenny!!!

Second Half:

A Mihm dunk off a Kobe steal triggerd an 11-5 Laker run

Image

Another worship routine in the game? :)

Image

As predicted by "the jet" Kobe bounced back

Image

Not even Kidd and VC can stop him.

Image

Not even Cliff Robinson for that matter

Image

Kobe's bonus free throw.

Image

But Vince is not yet done for the night.

Image

And so are the Nets..

Image

And Richard Jefferson for that matter.

Image

Kidd celebrating after hitting a dagger 3pointer..

Image

And again I repeat, Vince is not yet done for the night...

Image

Oh no!!! not by a lungshot!!!! Haha, Vince Carter just dirted on Mihm's head!!!!! In memory of Fred Weis

Image

These has been the story of the night. Too much of this 3 for the Lakers to handle. A well deserved rest for these 3.

Image

Nets won 109 - 86

Craig Sager: Vince, 51 points, 4 rebounds, 18/34 shooting, 3/7 beyond the arc. You were on fire tonight. What was your mindset coming into this game? Were you focused on your matchup with Kobe?

Vince: Of course not, I was more focused on the game. As you know we only have 29 games this season so we cant afford to lose any games. So there I just did my thing, do what I can for this team and contribute.

Craig Sager: Charles Barkley, made a bet about you dunking on Kobe. Did that fire you up? Did you take any insult on that?

Vince: Of course not. If it wasn't for my teammates giving me good looks especially J-Kidd, I wouldnt even be in the position to do a good dunk.

Craig Sager: Last question, what were you thinking when you got airborne and Kobe was in front of you?

Vince: Nothing, I was in the moment that time and you wouldn't be able to think.

Craig Sager: Thanks Vince. And be sure to watch Inside the NBA. It's gonna be fun.

Vince: Thanks... Yeah I will :)

Inside the NBA:

Ernie: Welcome on inside the NBA. Tonight is the much anticipated episode because once again, Charles Barkley will kiss Kenny's Donkey

Kenny: That's right Ernie, and we will also preview the next game of the Nets which will be against Dallas.

Ernie: And that will also be the nets season opener. Great start for the nets this season winning 2 straight games at home. Kenny, how important is every game this season?

Kenny: It's very important since it only 29 games. Last season the Nets had to win their last game to determine if they will make the playoffs or not and they had 82 games last season. if it was 80 games the nets wouldnt have made it to the finals. This season, every game is a do or die game.

Charles: That's right, 1 loss may affect the positioning of the playoffs in 1 snap and they can also determine whether you make the postseason or not. Bottomline, every game is important.

Kenny: But before we forget our little bet, I'll reacquaint you to Kenny Charles.

Charles: ok I'm a man of my word and I will do it. Lets bring out the donkey.

[donkey being escorted]

Charles: here goes!!!!

Smack!!!!

Charles: that, is the last time, i'll make a bet with you involving Donkeys!!!

Kenny: [laughing] Ok ok, now the Dallas game, totally different team from the Lakers and the Knicks. But we saw Dirk's weakness and I expect either Richard Jefferson or Kidd guarding him.

Ernie: and Charles, what do you think is the gameplan of Dallas against Vince Carter? After averaing 43.5 ppg the last 2 games, what kind of look do you think Dallas will give Carter?

Charles: I think they will give him different players. Dallas should assign different defenders and they must double him should he receive the ball. The most important thing for them to do is to deny him the ball. Should this happen, expect Lamond Murray and Scott Padgett to have extended minutes to play.

Ernie: Thank you for your insights. This is all the time we have. It's just the beginning of the season and its already looking good. Stay tuned on TNT for more NBA action. Goodnight everyone.
