air's Cavs dynasty

Postby air on Sun Sep 04, 2005 5:05 am

As I told you before I'm going to start a new dynasty. My old one (Nuggets) was way too easy and when I changed the sliders to default I realized it was a completely different ball game. Everything I had ever done in that dynasty was based on the sliders so I thought it's time for a change.

I also mentioned somewhere that I might be moving to another country soon so I cannot promise this one will go on forever, but there should be a good few weeks until anything like that happens. And if it does, I sure want to take my computer with me. I also like making a dynasty and I'll try my best to make it interesting.

CLEVELAND CAVS ROSTER

C Zydrunas Ilgauskas, 7'3, center
PF Drew Gooden, 6'10, power forward
SF LeBron James, 6'8, small forward
SG Luke Jackson, 6'7, small forward
PG Jeff McInnis, 6'4, point guard

6 Eric Snow, 6'3, point guard
7 Anderson Varejao, 6'10, power forward
8 Aleksandar Pavlovic, 6'7, shooting guard
9 Robert Traylor, 6'8, center
10 DeSagana Diop, 7'0, center
11 Dajuan Wagner, 6'2, shooting guard
12 Ira Newble, 6'7, shooting guard

R Scott Williams, 6'10, center
R Martynas Andriskevicius, 7'2, center

I'm not that fond of making trades so my roster will hopefully stay the same for a while. I'll try to develop the players and get the best out of them. Luke Jackson is starting at SG so my outside options wouldn't be so limited.

It will be a real challenge. My sliders are tough but a challenge is what I wanted in the first place:

CAVS TAKE CLOSE WIN IN SEASON OPENER

New Orleans 75
Cleveland 80

Cleveland Cavs took a very close win in their season-opening game against New Orleans at the Gund Arena last night. The first quarter was dominated by Hornets' center Jamaal Magloire, who had 10 points in the first period. The Cavs slowly came back to lead by four at the half, inspired by player of the game Drew Gooden, who always seemed to be in the right place for a rebound or a putback. The Hornets battled to take a two-point lead before the final quarter, which was tied until Cleveland got the upper hand in the end. They had a three-point lead with less than 20 seconds to go, when point guard Jeff McInnis made a huge steal to win the game. Gooden outshone star player LeBron James, the power forward finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while James had 17 and 4. Besides Jamaal Magloire who had 16 and 10, the Hornets were led by rookie point guard Chris Paul, who had an impressive 25 points.

"It was really close", said James. "Either team could have got the win, but I'm really glad we pulled it off to begin our season. This gives us a lot of confidence going into the next game against Orlando."

Starters:
New Orleans (1-0 before game)
C J. Magloire
F P. Brown
F B. Bass
G J. Smith
G C. Paul

Cleveland (0-0 before game)
C Z. Ilgauskas
F D. Gooden
F L. James
G L. Jackson
G J. McInnis

I have time now so there should be frequent updates here. Stay tuned.

Cheers. I know it's a bit discouraging to mention my situation at the start but I just want to be honest. Even if I move I should eventually get my computer over, too, but there could be a break here. But that should be two months from now.

CAVS COME BACK BUT EVENTUALLY LOSE AGAINST ORLANDO

Orlando 72
Cleveland 67

In a low-scoring game at the Gund Arena, the Cleveland Cavs failed to extend their winning streak to two as they lost to Orlando Magic. Orlando started the game on a high and were leading 42-31 at the half, but an intense third quarter with lots of interceptions took the Cavs to a one-point lead at the end of the quarter. However, it was the Magic who were able to make the crucial shots at the death, and when the Cavs needed a three-pointer, Jeff McInnis nor LeBron James could not make it. LeBron James led the Cavs with 19 points, but shot a very low percentage because of good defensive effort by veteran Grant Hill. More surprisingly Tractor Traylor scored 17, using his strength to his advantage against Pat Garrity. Meanwhile, Steve Francis had 18 for the Magic, followed by 17 from Hedo Turkoglu and 12 from Hill.

"It hurts to lose like this", said Traylor. "We put in some good effort in the third and had it all in our hands again. It's a shame we couldn't find the way to win the game."

The Cavs should find that way in two days' time against Charlotte Bobcats.

Starters:
Orlando (1-1 before game)
C K. Cato
F D. Howard
F G. Hill
G H. Turkoglu
G S. Francis

Cleveland (1-0 before game)
C Z. Ilgauskas
F D. Gooden
F L. James
G I. Newble
G J. McInnis

Player of the game:
Francis ORL 18/6

Box scores:
Magic
Cavs

Thanks for your feedback Anthony15, Sac-1, Sensation. I guess I'll be checking out what's happening on other threads tomorrow because my last game got me somewhat disappointed.

Anthony15, I've got the 1.15 rosters.

CAVS SUFFER EMBARRASSING LOSS AGAINST CHARLOTTE

Charlotte 85
Cleveland 63

It could be a long season for the Cleveland Cavs' faithful. They were expecting nothing less than a win against Charlotte Bobcats, one of the weakest teams in the league who were facing an even tougher task with power forward Emeka Okafor ruled out because of injury. The Cavs started Ira Newble in place of Luke Jackson, and they looked to be doing well, leading after the first quarter. But the game began going the other way slowly, until everyone finally realizing it would be a blowout win for the Bobcats. Charlotte got 18 of their points from behind the arc, while Cleveland had a 0-6 record from behind the arc. Cleveland grabbed several rebounds but failed to make use of them, while Charlotte took most of their second chances. Raymond Felton was player of the game with 17 points and eight assists, while center Primoz Brezec had 13 rebounds. LeBron James scored 25 for the Cavs from several shooting attempts and failing to add a single rebound. Point guard Jeff McInnis was again hugely disappointing.

"I can't explain this", said James after the game. "We've got to come back and show we're not a team people can laugh at."

The Cavs' next chance to show it comes against the Chicago Bulls.

Starters:
Charlotte (1-3 before game)
C P. Brezec
F S. May
F G. Wallace
G K. Rush
G R. Felton

Cleveland (1-1 before game)
C Z. Ilgauskas
F D. Gooden
F L. James
G I. Newble
G J. McInnis

Player of the game:
Felton CHA 17/3/8 ast

Box scores:
Bobcats
Cavs

Pictures:

James scores against four players in the first quarter. He got 10 in the first, the coach took him off and I should have kept him on. Never found his game again.

Image
Brezec adds salt to the wounds in the fourth.

Image
They can't believe it. I can't believe it either.

air's note:
SH*T. This is DAMN hard now. I might go for James at SG. He could shoot over a smaller defender because somehow the lane has been very full, it's hard to drive. And after scoring with only power forwards in the past, how the hell do I score with McInnis!?

Bobcats had 20 more shots than I did! :(

Yes, I over-fixed them. But the dynasty is based on the sliders, so I will be honest with myself and make it a little easier. With the Nuggets I had no idea how different my sliders were compared to the original ones. Now I know a lot about them and won't have stupid settings anymore like some magic drop-step.

Almost all settings will stay the same, I just took 5 off cpu interceptions and steals and added 3 to adjusted shot pct.

Cavaliers looking to make cap room for summer?
by Chuck Collins, cleveland.com sports writer

The Cleveland Cavaliers still seem to be in rebuilding mode. After a heavy defeat at the hands of Charlotte Bobcats, it seems that the team still needs to add a few pieces to the puzzle before challenging for a playoff spot.

Cavs depth chart

C Ilgauskas - Traylor - Diop - Williams - Andriuskevicius
PF Gooden - Varejao
SF James - Jackson
SG Newble - Pavlovic - Wagner
PG McInnis - Snow

The team has some young, talented players, but they are still some way off from being a force in the league. There seems to be very few trading options within the team, as it's hardly unlikely that the Cavs will receive anything more than a role player in return for a player such as Eric Snow or Aleksandar Pavlovic.

The Cavs could be looking at signing a big-name free agent over the summer, since there are several players on their final year of contract. Zydrunas Ilgauskas, DeSagana Diop, Scott Williams and Jeff McInnis are all on the last year of their deals. Especially Ilgauskas is known to have a huge salary, and by not re-signing him the Cavs could be able to sign one of the big names: perhaps Andrei Kirilenko, Ray Allen, Pau Gasol or Jason Richardson. There should be at least a couple of big-name free agents available.

If the team let go all those players, they would be left with:

C Traylor - Andriuskevicius
PF Gooden - Varejao
SF James - Jackson
SG Newble - Pavlovic - Wagner
PG Snow

It's hard to say whether they would benefit from having this line-up and one or two new players in the fold. The point guard, shooting guard and center positions would all need strengthening.
