Atlanta Dynasty [Closed]

When I suffered that career ending injury to my knee, I thought I could never do anything else. Basketball has always been my only success. Then I decided to coach, and I won two consecutive Canadian University Titles. And I was 18 when it all started…
Today, when my mom woke me up (yes, I’m still living with my mom at 20), she told me I received an important call. Without even getting up from my bed, I took the phone.
“Hello…
-Is this John Yougi?
-Indeed…
-This is Billy Knight, from the Atlanta Hawks. We have a job for you.
-Yeah… and I’m Wilt Chamberlain…
-No I’m serious!
-Yeah really…”
Then I woke up and went to my computer, logging on to NBA.com. On the news section, I saw something quite weird… “Hawks chasing Canadian John Yougi for Head Coach and GM job”
I was feeling like… geez, I ain’t quite sure what I was feeling like, but I took the phone and called right back at Mister Knight (my phone did keep the number in memory).
“Hello!
-Mister Knight? This is John Yougi.... I’m sorry sir… I just…. Took it as a joke…
-Well it ain’t one! Are you interested in taking over as head coach and GM?
-Heck yeah!
-Then we’re waiting for you in Atlanta. See ya in my office tomorrow at 5 p.m.”
Two days later, I had the job, and my uncle told me I could live with him in Atlanta (as living in Montreal when working in Atlanta is kind of tough…) until I found a house.

There are two things that I kept in mind from what Sir Knight told me… First is he wants wins. He wants a .500 mark for next season, at the very least. Second is my single year contract is bringing me 5 millions US bucks. FIVE MILLIONS MAN! I’M FRICKIN RICH!
Being GM and Coach at the same time is the heck of a job. In the NBA, it’s even tougher. And coaching and managing the Hawks to a .500 mark is gonna be… impossible? Anyways, even if I’m fired after a single year, I’m gonna have enough money to live my whole life.

Tomorrow I’m meeting the players and assistant coaches. I’ll talk to you about it straight after.

Today I met all my new players. Billy Knight showed me my office, and I just received a copy of the 12 guys on the main roster.

I had a full week of practice before the trading period, and as I coach run and gun basketball, the guys ran for almost a full week. They also shot a lot, because I don't think this is a great shooting team, and in the half-court, we're gonna shoot a lot.

Things I had to do in the trade period were to get a shooter and a shot-blocking big man. The big man was almost easy to get. I wanted to get a shot blocker? What about a four time defensive player of the year?

I called Houston, and after a few days of talking, I sent Tony Delk and D. Smith (A shooting guard I never heard of before…) for veterans Charlie Ward and Deke Mutombo.

I also talked to the Suns. I got rid of two guys I didn't like in my rotation, and got in return two guys that would start. I shipped Al Harrington (who is too slow to be a running 3, but can't guard 4), Josh Childress (which I really like, but who doesn't shot well enough to be a 2 alongside Smith) and Kevin Willis for Joe Johnson and Walter McCarty.

After those two trades, the line-up looked like that:

Image

Our first game was at home against Deke's former fellows, the Bulls. The game plan was to run them real hard so Chandler and Curry couldn't protect the middle, and to get McCarty a lot of open shots.

In the first quarter, Lue had 8 points (an incredible lay-up on which he twisted to avoid getting blocked by Chandler, and 2 treys, including the quarter's last bucket), and Mutombo had 5 boards. The only problem is I realized Mutombo had as much Stamina as my grandma. I'm gonna have to get him a better back up, cause Drobjnak sucks deeply on D (while on the other side he makes pretty good passes). Also, I will have to sign another back up swingman. Diaw is darm good, but he can't play at both the 2 and 3 at the same time.

In the second quarter, I realized I liked Gugliotta. Never much cared about him before, but he's a pretty strong guy, can play some D. He's gonna have to work on timing his rebounding tho.

At halftime, the score was 42-38 for them, which ain't that bad, but there were two things that impressed me: Lue's 18 points and Deke's 9 blocks. In a singlehalf. And in 12 and 11 minutes respectively… that's 54 points and 29 rebounds on a 36 minutes basis! Lue was incredible… he was scoring lay up

Image

after lay up

Man… if that guy could dunk…

In the third, Lue scored 6 more and dished out 3 assists (for a total of 4), Deke got 4 other boards, and we got outscored. Luol Deng and Nocioni were automatic from down town, and they always found way to be wide open, causing us to lose by 10 at the beginning of the crucial quarter.

At the end, we lost by 19 points (95-76). Our shots simply not falling, we couldn't get anything going on offense, causing to frustration and stupid errors on D.

Lue again scored lay up

Key Stats:

Lue: 31 pts on 13-22 shooting (including 3-9 from beyond the arc)

Drobnjak: 3 dimes in 11 minutes

Deke: 14 boards

O. Harrington: 6 points (on perfect 3-of-3 shooting) and 5 boards in 8 minutes

As soon as I left the locker room after the game, I ran to my office. On my computer, Billy downloaded a list of the free agents with the number to reach their agent. To fill my lack of back up swingman, I signed Kendall Gill to a single year minimum contract.

Our second game was in San Antonio.
Image

I was a little afraid of how Walter could guard TD, but in the first, it did not seem to be a problem as we lead 15-11 at the buzzer, leaded by Joe’s 7 points, including this dunk.

Image

Walter also showed us how well he ran the pick and roll, finishing on stopper Bruce Bowen.

Image

About a dozen threes in the second gave the Spurs a 11 point lead at the break, with a score of 52-41

“85-59. THEY’RE LEADING BY 26 GUYS! Man when I came in here, I sweared I would make this team a winning one. The only thing missing seems to be a few WINNERS on it!”

When everything was said and done, we got blown 116-77. We shot 2-20 from beyond the arc. That’s 18 lost possessions. That’s 54 lost points. I need a shooter, a real one, not a 4 that can shoot.

Key stats:
Bruce Bowen : 20 points in 20 minutes on a 8-of-11 shooting
Parker: 24 points in 18 minutes on a 10-on-10 shooting
Rasho: 10 boards
Nazr: 7 boards in 10 minutes
Peja Drobnjak: 9 points in 9 minutes from 4-of-5 shooting
Walter: 22 points and 7 boards

This is AWESOME, man! :D Great summaries (Y)

Those were some really good trades, too- I think you'll find Charlie Ward to be a suprisingly good backup PG- he can really shoot & plays good D. Getting Joe Johnson was great, too- he can do everything out there...

If you plan on getting deep into the playoffs, though, I think you've got to upgrade your PF position. McCarty is waaay too weak to hold any of the bruiser PFs of the league in check, he's actually more of a 3 than a 4. Consider a tough inside player like Corliss Williamson, maybe...

Thanks guys! :D Cool to see you like it!

Yeah i found out I don't like walter... I'm looking to get someone else, but can't decide who to take...

I'm looking at Othella Harrington... this guy can be a great player but off the bench only... maybe Antonio Davis... With Deke at the 5 I need a 4 that can score...

Also, I realized Smith didn't score a single bucket in those 2 games... I may trade him for either MoPete or Iggy... We'll see.

"Sorry Mike... We don't need yourservices anymore... nah that's weak... Mike... you're fired... nah.. Mike... good luck on your new team...
-You wanted to see me coach?
-Eh Mike! Yeah... Hum... You know we're weak at the 4...
-Yeah... You want me to play the 4? I'm 6'2!!!
-Nah! I... was talking with Keon Clark's Agent, and Clark is now a Hawk... But we need a place on our roster... and as you're the last player on it...
-You waived me?
-Yeah... Hope you'll have a brighter future somewhere else..."

Man that was weak... But it was my first waive, so I guess i'm gonna get better! And anyways, Michael Stewart wasn't even playing, and he won't play anywhere... So we don't care!

So yeah, we got Keon Clark! the guy is payed over 6 million... But I still got an improvement at the 4. A real one! Walter will be good off the bench tho.

Also, I watched the stats, and Othella Harrington score 6 points with 5 boards in 8 minutes and without missing... which is real good! So I called their GM and traded Jason Collier for him... As Collier didn't play a lot, won't be a bad trade... I guess. I would have wanted Antonio Davis too, but they were asking too much.

I also told ya I wanted a shooter. Well I got Wally Szczerbiak. I called in Minnesota to see if they took offer for Eddie Griffin, and McHale was like: Yeah, and I'm looking to ship Wally also...

So I offered him to get younger by swapping Szczerbiak and Josh Smith, as Smith didn't score a single bucket this year. As we needed more scoring punch, I thought Szczerbiak would be better at this point. I would have prefered Peterson from Toronto, or Andre Iguodala from Philly, but both were untouchables...

Billy told me to calm myself on the trading block... My team was getting better, but we were losing fans, and money... I also have a press conference in three days...

PS: If there are questions you want to ask, PM me! The conference is gonna be monday or so.

Today, we’re in Miami to face the Heat. I’m looking for my first victory as a NBA head coach.

Newly acquired Keon Clark goes for a dunk on the break.

Christian Laettner was a victim of Deke’s elbows.

At halftime, the Heat lead 60-58, behind Eddie’s 16 points.

Image
Deke’s incredible dunk on the break.

70 seconds left, we’re up by 4… Lue throws a pass to Joe, that goes straight out of bounds! Hopefully, our defense makes Wade do the same thing, and we get the ball back. Joe see he has a wide open line to the hoop, and goes for a lay up… that he misses, but he gets the board, and tries a dunk that Shaq blocks. Damon Jones gets a pass on the break, but as soon as he leaves the floor, he’s fouled by Wally.

He gets both, and steals a pass on the other side of the court. They feed the ball to Shaq in the post for the tie… a shot that Deke sends in the crowd. Eddie inbounds it to Wade in the post, double teamed by Lue and Deke, so he sends it back to Eddie who shoots the three… BLOCKED BY JOE! Eddie inbounds it to Wade again, who is not doubled that time, and who FACIALIZE LUE in the worst way possible… score is tied at 102.

Image

Both Lue and Zo had a chance to win it on a short J, but both missed.

My first overtime game in the NBA. Against Shaq and the Heat.

Image
Predrag and Keon showing us a few facials.

AND I WON IT!!! Thanks to McCarty and Wally’s clutch play, we won it 119-112!

Key stats:
Eddie Jones had 22 points on 9-11 shooting, including 2-3 from downtown
Wade had a double-double with 23 points and 10 dimes.
Shaq had 13 rebounds, 14 points and 3 blocked shots.
Haslem had 6 boards, 3 steals, 3 blocks and 2 dimes
McCarty had 21 points in 16minutes coming off the bench. He shot 8-16 from the field, but only 3-10 from three point land
Wally had 21 points on 6-10 shooting, including 3-6 from beyond the arc
Deke had 8 points (from a perfect 4-4 shooting), 9 boards and 4 blocks
Harrington had 6 points and as many boards in 13 minutes.

Keon Clark was named Player of the Game!

And 22 points on 9-10 shooting.

-Yeah... You want me to play the 4? I'm 6'2!!!

Good trades, I like Orthella Harrington a lot on your team. He's underrated at scoring, rebouding, and defense.

As far as the Josh Smith-for-Wally trade, you got a great shooter out of the deal, but the move hurts your defense a lot. Szczerbiak is a bad defender, and Josh Smith was a shot-blocking machine. You've got to keep these things in mind if you want to win a championship- you know the saying, "Defense wins championships..."

But I must say that you do have good defenders around Wally in Lue, Johnson, and Mutombo, so they'll help him out.

Good luck with your next game (Y)
