HEAT Open Schedule

HEAT Open Schedule With Open Practice

Black Team 91, White Team 86
The Bench Can Surprise You!

MIAMI, Nov. 1 (Ticker) -- All players played for both teams in a open practice that the HEAT offered to the fans in the AmericanAirlines Arena.

But the rare thing was the bench defeated the starters, 91-86.

Shaquille O'Neal, acquired from the Lakers in the offseason, scored 14 points for the Black Team (The Bench) and 18 for the White Team (The Opener's Lineup).

Heat coach Stan Van Gundy played O'Neal - who led the White Team in points along with Eddie Jones - into the third quarter, but "sat" him for the fourth in the White Team, and changed places with Michael Doleac (Doleac playing for White and O'Neal for Black).

With the White leading, 84-73, with 4:35 left to go in the game, Black scored a 18-2 run and won the game.

Nice Idea there, but quite confusing with all the same players on each team.

Shaq’s Heat Burn Nets

Heat Boxscore | Nets Boxscore

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Nov. 3 (Ticker) -- Battling a sore hamstring and foul trouble, Shaquille O'Neal didn't need to be the mammoth presence he usually is as the Heat coasted to 101-96 rout of the Nets in the season opener for both teams.

"I told the team not to worry about anything," O'Neal said. "I will take care of the marketing and the guys will just have to worry about what happens on the court."

Almost always commanding a double-team, O'Neal's presence managed to open up things for Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem. Wade netted 22 points and Haslem chipped in 18.

"I'm glad to have him on my team," Wade said. "Just having him being in the area gives you confidence."

O'Neal, who picked up his fourth foul early in the fourth quarter, made 6-of-14 shots and collected 14 points and 15 rebounds in 41 minutes.

"I didn't think he was moving great, obviously not at full strength," Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said. "He's a tough guy to stop and our guys are looking for him."

With the Nets concentrating on O'Neal in the first quarter, Rasual Butler was the one to benefit. He made 2-of-4 outside shots and scored 6 points, helping the Heat open the game with a 15-4 lead.

In the first quarter, the Heat shot a sizzling 64 percent (9-of-14), for a total of 19 points.

The Nets got back into it in the second quarter, when Nenad Krstic scored six of his ten points. But the Heat finished the first half 48-36.

Damon Jones, Eddie Jones and Keyon Dooling added 16, 11 and 8 points respectively for the Heat, who shot 50 percent (39-of-78) and held a 48-40 rebounding advantage. The Nets just shot just 45 percent (39-of-86).

The best players in the Nets where Jason Kidd, with 33 points and 7 assists, and Vince Carter, with 29 and 4 rebounds.

O'Neal Stands Up For Heat

Cavaliers Boxscore | Heat Boxscore

MIAMI, Nov. 4 (Ticker) -- Making his home debut, Shaquille O'Neal scored 20 points and created opportunities for his teammates as the Heat maintained control throughout a 87-77 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"The place was great," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "If we get that support every game... I can't wait for the playoffs." He scored 15 points. He also had five rebounds, five assists and one block.

"You can't stop Shaq," Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden said. "He's going to get his numbers. He's like a T-Rex."

O'Neal played 41 minutes and collected 17 rebounds and six assists. Commanding a double-team, he opened the floor for teammates Wade, Udonis Haslem and Eddie Jones.

Haslem scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, when the Heat pulled away. Jones chipped in 11. Rasual Butler, off the bench, made 3-for-8 shooting, and scored 10 points.

The Heat never trailed, shooting 40 percent (32-of-79). They are 2-0 after an 0-7 start last season.

Gooden had 15 points and 6 rebounds and LeBron James scored only 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavaliers. Zydrunas Ilgauskas led the Cleveland's offense with 20 and 12.

"It was fun, there's a lot of energy in this team," O'Neal said. "Dwyane is the speed and I'm the strength."

The Diesel's game continues

Heat Boxscore | Wizards Boxscore

WASHINGTON, Nov. 6 (Ticker) -- It was thought that Shaquille O'Neal was going to play first fiddle in Miami.

O'Neal scored 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Miami Heat to a 93-72 victory over their new Southeast Division rivals, the Washington Wizards.

"Flash (Wade) is a helluva player," O'Neal said. "He deserves everything he's getting. I'm just glad to be on his team. I'm going to make sure he plays like that every night."

Wade scored 10 points, dished the ball 6 times and collected 5 rebounds. Maybe this aren't "the" numbers, but the truth is that Wade disconnected Gilbert Arenas from the game. Arenas scored only 7 points in 3-for-10 shooting.

Larry Hughes and Antawn Jamison scored 21 and 19 points, respectively. They led the Wizards in scoring. Jared Jeffries, now starter, helped with 11.

The Jones (Eddie and Damon), posted 13 and 21 points. Rasual Butler and Keyon Dooling, off the bench, scored 6 and 4.
