MIAMI, Dec. 26 -- The
Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed seven-time NBA All-Star
Alonzo Mourning in an attempt to revive his NBA career.
“We look forward to Alonzo joining the Heat again,"
Stan Van Gundy said. "Hopefully he will be able to resume his career and play at the high level he has in the past.”
“I am feeling great and I'm very excited," said Mourning. "This will be, likely, my last season. I'm very happy that I can retire in my team."
Mourning, who was released by Toronto yesterday, played in 7 games for the Raptors this season. On December 19, 2003, Mourning underwent kidney transplant surgery in which he was given a kidney donated by his cousin.
A 12-year NBA veteran, Mourning posts career averages of 20.0 ppg, 9.7 rpg and 2.98 bpg in 634 games with
Charlotte,
Miami and
New Jersey. Drafted by

MIAMI, Dec. 21 (Ticker) -- The Miami HEAT organization announced today that they have waived center
Wang Zhizhi.
Wang Zhizhi appeared in 43 games during parts of two seasons with the Clippers after signing with the team as a free agent on October 18, 2002. Wang averaged 4.3 points per game. Then he signed with Miami in December 1, 2003. He appeared in 14 games with the HEAT in the 2003-04 season, averaging 3.1 points.

Miami HEAT announced today that they have acquired rookie forward
Andre Iguodala from the
Philadelphia 76Ers in exchange for forward
Rasual Butler and guard
Keyon Dooling.
"We feel like this is a good deal for our team and our organization," HEAT president Pat Riley said. "It has always been about winning for us."
Iguodala, In two seasons at University of Arizona, posted career totals of 594 points (9.6 ppg), 409 rebounds (6.6 rpg) and 95 steals (1.53 spg) in 62 games (34 starts). In his final season at Arizona, made the All-Pac 10 team, earned All-District 9 honors from the USBWA and was named Honorable Mention All-America by The Associated Press; he also received second team Pac-10 All-Academic team honors in 2003-04. Following sophomore season, voted team MVP as voted by his teammates. He became the first player in Arizona history to lead the team in rebounds, assists and steals in the same season (2003-04) and the sixth early entry candidate under head coach Lute Olson. He finished the 2003-04 season as the only player in the Pac-10 to be ranked in the top 20 in scoring and rebounding and the top 10 in assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio and he also was named Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year.
Butler, who was selected by the HEAT in the second round (53rd pick) of the 2002 NBA Draft, has appeared in 117 games (28 starts) in his two-year NBA career in Miami. He has averaged 7.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 18.7 minutes per game in that span, and closed out the 2003-04 season ranked eighth on the HEAT’s all-time list in three-point field goal percentage (.358). In 28 career starts, he has averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 29.8 minutes per game, while shooting 37.2 percent from the floor, 29.3 percent from three-point range and 78.6 percent from the free throw line.
Dooling, entering his fifth NBA season, has averaged 6.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 17.2 minutes per game over four years with the Los Angeles Clippers. In 58 games (career-high 24 starts) with the Clippers last season, he averaged 6.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 19.6 minutes per game. He scored in double figures on 15 occasions and handed out double-figure assists once. He set career highs in both points (20) and assists (10) at Detroit on Mar. 31, 2004 while recording his first career double-double. In his 24 starts during the 2003-04 season he averaged 8.1 points, 2.9 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 26.9 minutes.

HEAT Sign Roger Mason Jr.
MIAMI, October 29 - The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed free agent guard
Roger Mason Jr. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Mason was acquired from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Rick Brunson on December 16, 2003. He appeared 23 games with the Raptors last season where he averaged 4.0 points and 12.4 minutes.
He averaged 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a three game span from February 24-27, including a career-best 18 points at New Jersey on the 24th. He has played in 43 career games, averaging 2.9 points and 10.3 minutes.
To make room in the roster for Mason, Miami waived sophomore

MIAMI, September 15 - The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed free agent forward/center Christian Laettner. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Laettner, entering his 13th NBA Season, has averaged 13.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.08 steals in 30.6 minutes per game during the course of his career with five NBA teams. He has also appeared in 32 playoff games and one NBA All-Star Game. In 48 games with the Washington Wizards last season, Laettner averaged 5.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20.5 minutes per game.

Jones is coming off a career-best season with the Milwaukee Bucks in which he played all 82 regular season games and each of the Bucks’ five postseason contests. HEAT Acquires Shaq
MIAMI, July 14 – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have acquired 11-time All-Star center Shaquille O’Neal from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Caron Butler, Brian Grant, Lamar Odom and a future first-round draft pick.
O’Neal, a three-time NBA Champion, has averaged 27.1 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.6 blocks per game over the course of his 12-year NBA career.
O’Neal was named one of the league’s 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and has been an All-NBA Team selection for the past 11 seasons, including being named to the All-NBA First Team for the last five years. He spent the last eight seasons as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, where he helped lead the club to four NBA Finals appearances and three NBA Championships. As a Laker, O’Neal averaged 24.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.2 blocks in 514 regular season games. He also averaged 29.1 points, 13.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.5 blocks in 100 playoff games with the Lakers.
Originally drafted by the Orlando Magic with the first pick in the 1992 NBA Draft, O’Neal spent four seasons with the Magic. As a member of the club, he averaged 27.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.8 blocks in 295 games. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 23.4 points, 13.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game during his inaugural season and was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

HEAT Sign Pfund and Van Gundy to Extensions
MIAMI, July 12, 2004 -- Miami HEAT President Pat Riley announced today the team has signed General Manager Randy Pfund and Head Coach Stan Van Gundy to multi-year contract extensions. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
Pfund has completed his ninth year with the HEAT organization. During his tenure the HEAT has produced four consecutive Atlantic Division championships (1996-2000) for the first time in franchise history, seven postseason berths, including a franchise-record six straight postseason appearances (1996-2001) and has helped Miami post the ninth best record (396-310, .561 winning percentage) in the NBA over that span.
Van Gundy, who took over the head coaching reigns after Riley stepped down on Oct. 24, 2003, finished third in the NBA Coach of the Year balloting this past season after guiding the HEAT to the postseason for the first time in three years. In his first season as an NBA head coach, Van Gundy guided the HEAT to a second place finish in the Atlantic Division with a 42-40 record, a 17-win improvement over the previous season.

HEAT Select Dorell Wright in the First Round of the 2004 NBA Draft
MIAMI, June 24 - The Miami HEAT announced today they have selected forward Dorell Wright with the 19th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft.
Wright (6-7, 200-pounds), an early-entry candidate in the NBA Draft, played four seasons at Leuzinger High School in California before transferring to South Kent Prep (Conn.) for a year of prep school. He was named the top prep school player in the nation by Basketball Times and was named the fourth-best high school player in the country by HoopScoop. He was selected the 19th-best senior in the country by USA Today and was named MVP of the National Prep School Tournament after scoring 32, 35 and 41 points in three games.
As a senior at South Kent, Wright averaged 29.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game and was named the Ocean League Player of the Year. During his junior season at Leuzinger, he averaged 24.8 points and 12.6 rebounds per game.
Wright also participated in USA Basketball's Youth Development Festival in the summer of 2003 and led his team to the bronze medal by scoring 9 points in the bronze medal game.
