I decided to post my new dynasty on NLSC. I hope you enjoy reading it. I plan to include pictures if I can find webspace that I can store files on. If anyone can help me with that let me know. My email address is krsplat7@hotmail.com.
October 28, 2003: Game 1: Miami Heat @ Philadelphia 76ers
W: 100-93
BREAKDOWN
First Quarter: Miami 31, Philadelphia 26
Kenny Thomas really got off on me. He had 11 in the first quarter. I managed to hold everyone else down, though. I went 3-3 on 3pt shooting. Lamar Odom had no points.
Second Quarter: Miami 22, Philadelphia 26
Kenny Thomas had another 10 points. Lamar Odom had 6 points. My offense wasn't really clicking.
Third Quarter: Miami 20, Philadelphia 17
I felt good about my 3rd quarter. Scoring was down, and I liked that. I played much better defense, especially on Kenny Thomas. Lamar Odom had 14 points in the 3rd.
Fourth Quarter : Miami 27, Philadelphia 24
Lamar Odom didn't score, but I still managed to seal the game away. Dwyane Wade did better in the 4th. I had one offensive possession in which I missed 6 consecutive shots and Brian Grant got each rebound until Lamar Odom hit a jumper from the elbow.
GAME SUMMARY
Miami managed to beat the Sixers in a tough, hard-fought defensive game on the Heat's opening night. Philadelphia's Allen Iverson was doubtful for the game and came off the bench for 5 points in only 4 minutes. Iverson's NBA all-time best streak of consecutive games played with 10 or more points was broken. The player of the game was Brian Grant, who had only 8 points but added 17 rebounds (6 offenseive and 11 defensive) plus 2 blocks, 1 steal, 4 assists and his usual great defense.
Rookie Dwyane Wade had a good start for his career with 19 points. He shot only 5-20 from the field, but was 8-10 from the free throw line. "I expected to have more than 2 rebounds," said Wade, "but it doesn't matter because we got the win and we had over 50 rebounds anyway. There must have been a hundred rebounds in the game," said the enthusiastic Wade.
The Heat achieved an assist:turnover ratio over 2:1. "If we can control the ball like this every game, expect a great season," said head coach Stan Van Gundy. "They had twice as many turnovers as we did. We didn't let them get an advantage on the boards, and we had 17 more field goal attempts than them."
Last year, Lamar Odom had a subpar year with the Los Angeles Clippers. As a restricted free agent, the Heat signed him, and the Clippers didn't match the offer. In his first game with the Heat, Odom had 20 points and 13 boards. Odom was limited to only 30 minutes, picking up 4 fouls in the first half. He had only 6 points in the first 2 quarters, but exploded for 12 in the third.
Kenny Thomas came up big for the 76ers. With 21 in the first half, Thomas almost beat the Heat single-handedly. He was limited to half that in the second half and finished with 11. Eric Snow had 19, but no one else on the Sixers posed a scoring threat.
PLAYS OF THE DAY
Dwayne Wade recieves a pass from Caron Butler. It's a 2 on 3 fast break for the Heat. Dwade does a crossover, faking right with the defenders in a triangle perfectly centered with the basket. All three defenders get shook and Dwyane gets a wide-open path to the basket on the left of the paint. He finishes with a tommahawk jam.
Half court offense. Wade has the ball outside the three point line on the right side. Eddie Jones is with him on the right baseline outside the three point line. Eddie Jones cuts, then spins back to catch Wade's pass just outside the key. He proceeds to get an and 1 tommahawk right over Aaron McKie. He converts the 3 point play.
