Game 2
Memphis - 21 / 25 / 31 / 11 / 8 - 96
Sacramento - 21 / 20 / 23 / 24 / 6 - 94
First Half
In this half the game was evenly matched out. Memphis were getting away from Sacramento, but Sacto kept coming back. Donte Thomas and Anthony Peeler got in foul trouble, which left Doug Christie all alone. Bonzi Wells had a sensational half, scoring 13 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists. Bonzi wasn't alone in the first half, Stromile Swift had 10 points, and 8 boards. On the other side, a suprise player Gerald Wallace had 11 points to help Sacto stay within 5 at the half.
Mike Hall: Hubie, your team is playing wonderful basketball out there, you got one of the key players in the game into foul trouble, what does this mean for you and the Grizz's?
Hubie Brown: It means that we're doing just fine, the Kings have never led in the game, so hopefully in the second half, we can keep that tempo.
M.Hall: Going back to what you said, the Kings have never led in the game, the Kings are 8-0 in the season when trailing at the half or have never led in the game going into halftime, does that scare you at all?
H.Brown: No, cause we're a great team, we are not afraid of the Kings and the season is over, we're in the playoffs now.
M.Hall: How did you shut down Donte and Chris in this game?
H.Brown: That's are game plan, and I can't say what we're trying to do cause they're probably back there watching it in there.
M.Hall: Thanks Hubie.
H.Brown: No problem.
Second Half
Memphis dominated the third quarter. Scoring 15 unanswered points, the big's in Sacramento got into foul trouble and that led Donte Thomas, and Mike Bibby into taking over the game. Mike and Donte combined for 23 of the team's ....... 23 points in the third quarter, Sacramento we're down 13 at the end of the third quarter. Stromile Swift left the game after spraining that left ankle. In the fourth quarter, Kings got their act together, going on a 15-6 run. Grizzlies were still ahead in the fourth quarter with only 1:00 left, let's take it to Marv Albert for the last minute.
" Bibby dribbling up the ball, Jason WIlliams is on him tight. 50 ticks to go. Ball into Webber, he's posting up, pass back out to Bibby, back into Webber, spins around his defender, rejected by Bo Outlaw, 4 on the shot clock, ball picked up by Thomas, deep three ............ YES! The three pulls the Kings within 2, only 34 seconds to go. You gotta foul, deep inbound pass to Gasol, stolen by Divac, outlet pass to Stojakovic, he holds it, there's about a 6 second deferiential, Peja still hollding it, do you foul here and send him to the line, no they play defense, ball into Bibby, dribble penetration to the basketball pass out to Thomas, into Webber, quick release ....... no good, rebound to Divac, pump fakes, he goes up....... SLAM DUNK AND THE FOUL!" Vlade Divac would miss the free throw and the game was to go into overtime.
OverTime Recap:
The Kings still never led in the game, and Jason Williams scored all of the Grizzlies 8 points in overtime, and on the other side, well.......lets take it back to Marv. Marv.
" 15 seconds to go in overtime, the Kings trail by 2. Here's the Kings lineup. Bibby, Peeler, Stojakovic, Thomas, and Webber. Look for Rick Adelman to go for the win here. Okay, ball into Bibby, crossover dribble on his defender, pump fake, Williams falls for it, into Webber, Bibby cuts back to Bibby, pass to Peja, into Peeler, to the corner into Thomas, pulls up for the three ......... No. Rebound to Bibby, to Peja, 3-ball............. No. MEPHIS WINS! MEMPHIS WINS! MEMPHIS WINS!"
Memphis took Game 2 of 7, with a win by two.
Mike Hall: FIrst up, Bonzi. You held Donte' to a playoff low, 16 points. But he did have a triple - double, how'd you handle him out there?
Bonzi Wells: I just took it to him, i watched the tape of Saturday's game, and saw how he plays, and so I played defense the way Kobe plays his when he plays him.
M.Hall: Stromlie Swift left the game in the third, did that make you step up your game?
B.Wells: No, um. The Kings made a run back at it, Divac saved them in regulation, but in overtime, Thomas didn't nail that jumper, and thank god Peja didn't either. SO the fact that Stromile left really didn't have an impact on me.
M.Hall: Thanks Bonzi.
M.Hall: Jason Williams ........ JWill, 8 points in overtime, career - playoff high, 31 points, you have fun.
J.Williams: Oh yeah, I finally get to play againest my old team in the playoffs, so I proved something to the Maloof Brothers, but they don't own them anymore, so just came out to have fun and win this game.
M.Hall: You go back home to the Pyramid, tomorrow, your fans are going to be going crazy, and Kings have lost 15 of there 19 losses on the road, any affect.
J.Williams: No, um, this is playoff atmosphere, so records don't really matter right now.
M.Hall: You have a prediction for this series.
J.Williams: Yeah, us in 5.
M.Hall: Okay, congratulations, that was Jason Williams, back to you guys in the studio.
