Hawks Get What They Wanted in the Off-Season
By Arthur Barclay

The Atlanta Hawks are planning on doing bad this year, but they are ready for the off-season to take action. With the regular-season just starting, the Hawks have made a transaction to even give them more cap. The deal sent G Terrell Brandon, F Chris Mills and F Alan Henderson to the Washington Wizards for G Gilbert Arenas. "This was a good deal for us cap-wise and talent-wise", said GM Mafia. After a 32-50 season, Arenas was averaging 22 ppg, 4 rpg and 3 apg. Jason Terry was also had a solid year with 19 ppg and 3 apg.

The draft lottery wasn't in the Hawks favor after grabbing the 7th pick. The Hawks draft a 6'10" forward named Jason Case (63). In the 2nd round, the Hawks drafted Shiloh Warren (41) a PG.

It was now off-season FA signing and the Hawks we're in all the talks about getting big time FA's in the 2004-2005 season. A big surprising FA was in on the list which was Kobe Bryant. The Hawks signed Kobe to a maxium extension for 7 years. They we're also able to sign F Rasheed Wallace to a 7 yr contract. The other FA's that we're on the list that the Hawks grabbed we're Desmond Mason, Carlos Boozer, Stromile Swift, and Darius Miles. The Hawks we're now ready to start their run for the championship.

By Arthur Barclay

The Atlanta Hawks are expected to have a solid debut with a great training camp. With all the talk about Kobe being in ATL, he is expected to start at SF tonight.

All the attention are on the Hawks this season after having a unbelieveable off-season. "I think we will be ready to show the league what we are really made of and how much of an impact we will make this season", Gilbert Arenas said. This is the 1st year that the Hawks will actually have sold-out of season tickets. "Everyone is so excited this year, the fans, the players, and me", GM Mafia said.

Key Matchup:
Kobe Bryant vs. Lebron James

These two will battle it out in the 1st game of the season. The Hawks are expected to come up with the victory, but how well will Kobe fill playing for the Hawks? As for LBJ, he was the ROY in the 2003-04 campaign and wants to be an all-star this year. This will be a very exciting matchup.

SF-Kobe Bryant

CLEVELAND- There are just a few guarentees with regards to the Atlanta Hawks lifestyle these days. They are actually talking playoffs for the first time in over a hundred years! Atlanta (1-0) won their season opener against the Cavaliers as expected. They came out and showed the league that they are for real.

Everybody was pumped on the Hawks squad. They started with a 10-3 spurt in the 1st quarter. Kobe and Lebron, both held each in check. Kobe came out with the W though. Unexpectedly, the Hawks we're led by G Jason Terry and F Carlos Boozer. The Kobe Bryant vs. Lebron James matchup wasn't that exciting with Kobe scoring 17 pts and Lebron only had 9 pts. Terry was the leading scorer for the game with 20 pts on 7-9 shooting from the field. He was also able to dish out 5 asts in the game.

The 3rd year forward Carlos Boozer had 19 pts, 10 rebs and 1 blk in the game. Kobe had a pretty good night all over the stat sheet even though he only scored 17 pts. Kobe also had 8 rebs, 5 asts, 2 stls and a blocked shot. Rasheed Wallace was with another new team and with the Hawks for the 2nd time in his career. He scored 15 pts, 8 rebs and had 1 blk. The no.7 overall pick in the 2004-05 draft Jason Case had 8 pts and 2 rebs in just 14 mins. Arenas had a very bad game with alot of shooting woes in his first game of the season. He shot 1-7 from the field and scored 5 pts. He did have 5 asts though. As for the Cavs, they only had 2 players that had solid games. Zydrunas Ilgauskas who had 18 pts and 12 rebs and Ian Brackett, the rookie forward had 13 pts.

Post Game Quotes: Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, Oct. 28, 2004

ImageATLANTA HAWKS GUARD JASON TERRY(20 points, 7-9 shooting, 5assists)
On his performance...

"I just went out there like any other game and played. I was a little nervous when the game first started off knowing that we had so much pressure on us. This was actually the 1st game I was in the NBA where millions of fans really wanted to watch the Hawks play and it was very exciting. We had just about everybody contributing in someway and we worked hard to get the win. Let's just hope we can go out and beat them the next game."

ImageATLANTA HAWKS FORWARD CARLOS BOOZER(19 points, 10 rebs, 1 block)
On Kobe Bryant...

"It was very exciting to play with him. He really does take all the pressure off of you, because all the attention is on him and it gives you the chance to have a better game. It is going to be great playing with him this year and many seasons to come. After we play a few games together he will really be blossoming on this team and making us better and better every single game"

ImageCLEVELAND CAVALIERS FORWARD LEBRON JAMES(9 points, 4 rebs, 2 asts)
On the Atlanta Hawks...

"They are a great team. With all the FA signings they had this off-season, it will be tough to stop their depth. You never know who would step up one game and get 20-30 pts that night. They also have a superstar in Kobe Bryant. This team will be very dangerous this season"

Yeah keep it relistic as possible, i rekon u shud trade either Terry of Arenas and get a C of SF, cos Kobe and Sheed are playing out of position, altho they both can play Sf and C pretty well.

Hawks Will Have A Sold-Out Phillips Arena Tonight
By Arthur Barclay

There we're many fans in line this morning trying to buy tickets for the Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game. This is the first time in many years that people actually want to see the Hawks.

After beating the Cavs in their season-opener 98-83, they have now rested up for 3 days and are back at it again. The Cavs are looking to get their 1st victory of the season after getting embarassed the 1st game and dropping 2 straight.

Last year's ROY, Lebron James, hasn't had a great year so far. He is only averaging 9.5 ppg. 7.5 rpg and 4.5 apg. "I'm not going to keep forcing everything anymore. I'm just going to let the game come to me," said James during the 4:00 p.m. practice.

This will be the 2nd meeting out of 4 between these two teams. The Hawks are going for a 2-0 record tonight.

Key Matchup:
Carlos Boozer vs. Ian Brackett

Boozer had a double-double in the 1st game with 19 pts and 10 rebs. Ian Brackett is averaging 16.5 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg, 1 bpg and 1 spg. These two young PF's will battle it out again tonight.

While Brackett isn;t a great rebounder, he has the quickness over Boozer. Boozer on the other hand has great post-up moves and will be a force inside.

Probable Starters and Key Stats

Hawks
C-Rasheed Wallace- 8rpg
PF-Carlos Boozer- 10rpg
SF-Kobe Bryant- 17ppg

ATLANTA-At the end of the 1st quarter, the Hawks we're trailing 27-25. During the 2nd period, the Cavs went on a 8-0 run and was leading 35-25. The Hawks started to comeback and made a run before halftime and was leading 54-48. Kobe had 17 pts in the 1st half.

With 5:37 left in the 3rd quarter, the Hawks took complete control as they we're up 71-60.

At the end of the 3rd, the Hawks we're hot on offense scoring 88 pts. The Cavs we're still trying to stick around with the score at 88-77. Lebron was also in foul-trouble, only playing 2 minutes in the 3rd with 4 fouls. He checked back into the game with 7:50 remaining in the 4th quarter.

With 2:50 left, the score was 111-88 and Coach Jackson put his bench players into the game to finish it off. The Hawks came out with the W with a 119-93 blow-out against the Cavaliers in their home-opener.

The Player of the Game was Kobe Bryant, who had 25 pts, 8 asts and 4 rebs. Cleveland had another great performance out of Zydrunas Ilgauskas who had 24 pts, 9 rebs and 4 blks. Kendrick Brown recorded a season-high with 16 pts. Lebron had 10 pts who only played 16 minutes because of foul trouble.

As for the Brackett vs. Boozer match-up, Boozer owned Brackett with 15 pts and 14 rebs. Brackett scored 10 pts and had 5 boards.

Rasheed Wallace had a great game with 20 pts, 9 rebs and 5 blks. Jason Terry had 14 pts, 5 rebs and 5 asts. Gilbert Arenas had 12 pts, 9 asts and 8 rebs, but couldn't come out of his shooting slump shooting 4-17 from the field. Michael Case and Boris Diaw both had 10 pts off the bench.

Post Game Quotes: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Hawks, Oct. 31, 2004

ImageATLANTA HAWKS FORWARD KOBE BRYANT(25 pts, 8 asts, 4 rebs)
On being with a new team...

"I love being with my new team. It's like I'm finally able to be the leader and can help this team reach the NBA Finals. All the players are great and are just like family to me. We have great chemistry for this to be our 2nd game of the season. After the all-star break, we will be very dangerous to handle."

ImageATLANTA HAWKS GUARD GILBERT ARENAS(12 pts, 9 asts, 8 rebs)
On shooting slump...

"Well, this is only the 2nd game of the season and I know I will get out of this slump. Next game, I should shoot a very respectable percentage. Even if I am on a bad shooting slump, the other players are playing well and helping me out. I'm getting rebounds and getting plenty of assits which is helping me with my slhooting slump. Let's just hope I will be out of it next game against the Warriors."

ImageCLEVELAND CAVALIERS CENTER ZYDRUNAS ILGAUSKAS(24 pts, 9 rebs)
On his season performance...

"Umm..I'm just going out there and playing with the potential I have. Hopefully, our team will start to win some games because we shouldn't have lost both of our games in a back-to-back game against the same team. We will try to be more agressive next game."

The Hawks First Real Test

By Arthur Barclay

After playing the Cavaliers for the first 2 games of the season, the Warriors will be the first big test for the Hawks. The Warriors are 1-1 and are also in the West. How will the Hawks fair against them? "We are just going to go out and play them like any other team this year. They aren't a serious threat to us," said Atlanta guard Jason Terry.

The Hawks are 3rd in the NBA in scoring, averaging 108.5 ppg. While G.S. is 25th in the NBA with 85 ppg. That is a very big deficit, but the Warriors won't take the Hawks lightly, "We know this team strengths and weaknesses, and we must stop them on transition," Coach Musselman said.

Key Matchup:
Gilbert Arenas vs. Nick Van Exel

Arenas almost recorded a triple-double last game with 12 pts, 9 asts and 8 rebs. He is on a terrible shooting slump, shooting 21% from the field in his first 2 games of the year. He quoted after last night's win over Cleveland that he will be out of the slimp against G.S. As for Nick Van Exel, he is averaging 16 ppg, 4 rpg and 3 apg. He is also shooting 50% in his first 2 games. This will be an interesting matchup tonight. Hopefully Arenas comments we're true.

Probable Starters and Key Stats
Hawks
C-Rasheed Wallace- 3bpg
PF-Carlos Boozer- 12rpg
SF-Kobe Bryant- 21ppg
SG-Jason Terry- 17ppg
PG-Gilbert Arenas- 6.5apg

Warriors
C-Erick Dampier- 2bpg

GOLDEN STATE-The Hawks had this game right after the 1st quarter ended with a 35-22 advantage over the Warriors. Van Exel went off on the Hawks with 28 pts,9 asts and 5 rebs, but only shot 10-31 from the field. His 28 pts wasn't enough to get the victory. Jason Richardson chipped in with 18 pts and 5 boards. The Player of the Game was Kobe Bryant for the 2nd straight game with 26 pts, 6 rebs and 5 asts.

Jason Terry had a good offensive night with 18 pts and shooting 7-11 from the field. Arenas had 17 pts, 4 asts and 3 rebs, and he shot a little bit better this game with 31%."It will take some time for me to get better with my shooting, but it's not a big deal as long as we are winning as of now. We have a tough game against the Kings tomorrow night and if the team really needs me to step up I will," said Arenas after the game.

Boozer and Wallace both scored 12 pts and they combined for 32 rebounds. Rasheed had 19 of those boards, while Boozer grabbed 13. Rasheed also added 4 blocks.

The Hawks bench scored 25 pts led by rookie Jason Case with 9 pts. The Hawks shot 47% tonight, while the Warriors shot 38%. They also outrebounded G.S. 56-47.

Post Game Quotes: Hawks vs. Golden State Warriors, Nov. 1 2004
ImageATLANTA HAWKS CENTER RASHEED WALLACE(12 pts, 19 rebs, 4 blks)
On his rebounding...

"I'm just trying to get good positioning when I get the rebound. I have other teammates like Boozer helping boxing people out, so I had the vertical length over everybody in the paint tonight which also helped me. This was one of the biggest rebounding games for me in my career."

ImageGOLDEN STATE WARRIORS GUARD NICK VAN EXEL(28 pts, 9 asts, 5 rebs)
On his performance...

"I got a little greedy by shooting 31 attempts. I wasn't expecting to play like this until we was down by so much at one point. It was like nobody wasn't stepping up tonight and we weren't getting in offensive rebounds at times. I also committed 5 turnovers which I'm not happy about. We must win our next game and I don't want to have to take over like I did tonight."

Image
On tonight's loss...COACH OF THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS ERIC MUSSELMAN

"I was disappointed in the effort we made tonight. It was kind of my fault in areas too, because I played Van Exel the entire game. I thought he was going to lead us to a comeback, but looks like he didn't. We don't need to have the same season as last year's and miss out on the playoffs. We must learn how to play together and get our plays right so we can start winning some ball games. This is still early in the season, and I hope we start re-grouping before we lose anymore games."

Rumors Flurring About Arenas Heading Out of Atlanta

Image

ATLANTA-Gilbert Arenas, the Atlanta Hawks PG has been mentioned in trade rumors already at the start of the season. The Hawks are looking for a true SF, because right now they have Kobe at SF. The Hawks also have a very small backcourt featuring Jason Terry and Gilbert Arenas. "I really don't want to be traded, I'm loving this team and want to be with them for the rest of my career. If they trade me, they may regret that,"Gilbert Arenas stated.

There haven't been any talks on where he would be going, but the teams that are interested in him are: Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks and the Indian Pacers. "I'm not saying that he is going anywhere as of now. If things don't start improving from him like shooting the ball well, then we might end up taking action. If he can proove that we can have a small backcourt, then we will try to keep him," President of Basketball Operations Mafia said on the phone. Could this be the end for Arena's?

Artest for Arenas + Scrubs.

Kobe cud be the focal point of the team, Artest could be the defensive stopper and Terry could play the point.

My 2 cents.

I already have Desmond Mason as my 6th man. I might go with Van Horn, but Artest is a little too unrealistic though. Not unless I did Arenas and Mason for Artest or something. Any other ideas?

Midway through the 2nd quarter, the Kings went on another 11-2 run. Swift had just hit 2 FT's and it cut the lead back to 2 points. The score was 44-42. Arenas was just placed back into the game after getting 3 early fouls. He had just committed his 4th with 2:17 left. The difference maker for the Hawks was back-up center Stromile Swift, who came off the bench and had 14 pts and 6 rebs at the end of the 1st half. The Hawks trailed at halftime 60-52.

In the 3rd, Terry was on fire scoring 14 pts in the quarter and hitting three 3 pointers. At the end of the 3rd, the Hawks re-gained the advantage and was up 91-85.

In the 4th quarter, the Hawks we're up by 7 until the Kings made a run and they kept going back at each other. With 24.6 seconds remaining in the game, Terry missed the 18 foot jumper while it was 112-110 and the shot could've sealed the game for the Hawks. Bibby came down and nailed a 15 foot jumper to tie the game up 112-112 with 20.2 seconds left. Kobe had the ball at the top of the key running out the clock with 12 seconds left. He ran a pick and roll with Carlos Boozer and Boozer got the ball down low, he put it up and got fouled by Brad Miller which was his 6th foul of the game and was fouled out. It was 5.4 seconds and Boozer nailed both of FT's to go up by 2 points. The Kings called a timeout to advance the ball at mid-court. There was some confusion on the defensive side for the Hawks and somehow Bibby was wide open for 3! He missed the uncontested 3 and luckily the Hawks came out with the victory and won their 4th straight game.

The Player of the Game was Stromile Swift who scored 22 pts, grabbed 15 rebs and had 1 blk shot off the bench. Kobe led the Hawks with 30 pts and 3 boards. Terry had 16 pts, 8 asts and 6 rebs. Rasheed shot 2-11 from the field, but went to the FT line 9 times and had 13 pts, 12 rebs and 3 blks. Boozer and Case both had 9 pts and 7 rebs. The Kings had 3 players with 20 plus points. Webber had 29 pts, 13 rebs and 2 blks. Bibby had 29 pts and 9 asts. Peja had 25 pts on 10-18 shooting.

Post Game Quotes: Hawks vs. Sacramento Kings, Nov. 2, 2004
ImageATLANTA HAWKS FORWARD CARLOS BOOZER(9 pts, 7 rebs)
On game-wining free throws...
"I just tried to pretend I was in my backyard, by myself with nobody watching. I tried not to concentrate too hard on the rim and I just released like I would usually do on any FT. After I hit the first FT, I felt alot more relaxed and pretty much knew I was going to hit the next one. When I hit both of them, I was very relieved."

ImageATLANTA HAWKS CENTER STROMILE SWIFT(22 pts, 15 rebs, 1 blk)
On bench performance...
"I was just checking into the game, and thought I would have any normal game like I've been doing. When Vlade Divac was on me, I knew I had to take advantage and I just went to work. I was very surprised to see I had 14 pts and 6 boards by halftime. Coach Jackson gave me alot of minutes and I produced with those minutes. It was a good wake-up call for me and will help me throughout the season."

ImageSACRAMENTO KINGS GUARD MIKE BIBBY(29 pts, 9 asts)
On his clutch shot...
"The 1st clutch shot I hit was win I tied the game at 112. When I did that I was so pumped up. When the refs mad a bad call against us late in the game, letting Boozer go to the line with 5 seconds left, that really pissed us off. I had a good look at the last shot, but couldn't connect. I would've felt much better if the game didn't end on a foul called by the refs. It was very bad officiating late in the game."

An hour after the Hawks win over the Sacramento Kings, Arenas was called to the Hawks main office and he heard some bad news. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks along with Desmond Mason in a 4 player deal that sent both of them to the Bucks for Keith Van Horn and Erick Strickland. "I'm speechless about what just happened. I never thought I would be traded so early in the year," Arenas said after hearing the news. Arenas has been in a slump for the first 4 games this season, only shooting 23% from the field. He had 4 points on 1-7 shooting in the win over the Kings and also was in early foul trouble."I think this trade helped both teams out. Keith Van Horn fits well into our system of play and the Bucks we're in need for a solid PG," said GM Mafia."It wasn't that we didn't like Arenas, but his style of play didn't fit well with us, and we thought he was holding us back." In the 5 games with the Bucks, Van Horn is averaging 18.6 ppg and 5.8 rpg.

Nice win over the kings dam bibby almost pulled the win out. what is Van horn rated. he should be a good addition. whos backing up terry at PG? van horn is very good at midrange jumpers and his 3pt shot falls very good of the pass. what is the bucks record?
