The Sonics Return the Reign Man!

Image

AP - Earlier this week the Seattle Supersonics aquired an old star from their formidable mid-90's team. Their formwer Power Forward, Shawn Kemp. Kemp was the teams heart and soul on offense during his early tenure with the team, and now that he is aging and nearing the end of his career, what better way then to finish on the team that grew to love you? Shawn Kemp signed a minimum deal contract with the Seattle Supersonics for only this season. Kemp's future after this year is unsure, dependent on whether or not he wants to retire. The team said they will gladly extend his contract in the future if Kemp decides about his retirement early. Shawn Kemp played well off the bench for the Orlando Magic last season, and this year is expected to challenge young Nick Collison for the starting PF poisiton.

Game Notes
----------------------
Oct. 30th - Clippers
The Supersonics started off the season with a bang as they came and wiped the floor with the Los Angeles Clippers at home. The Clippers dropped this game by 23 points to a 3-point shooting Seattle team. Seattle shot 35% from the 3-point mark on the night, and sealed home this victory.
Oct. 31st - @Clippers
A rematch of....last night? Seattle this time went to Los Angeles and left with almost equal results. A tough game led to a 127-112 victory for the Supersonics as Ray Allen put up his first triple-double of the season, in only the second game (34 pts - 10 reb - 13 ass). Not to mention he had lots of help from Rashard Lewis who also tacked on 31 points from the field. However coach Nate McMillan was worried about the future games for this team, as they allowed Quentin Richardson to put up 49 points!
Nov. 7th - Trail Blazers
This was a low-scoring game until the 4th quarter, in the 4th quarter Allen exploded for 14 points to finish with 27 on the night (had early foul trouble left 2nd quarter). The Blazers couldn't put up some key shots, and it seemed the basketball gods were against them making easy ones.
Nov. 9th - Hawks
A surprising amount of offense from a few players gave the Supersonics an easy victory. Ray Allen finished with his 2nd triple-double as he brought in 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists. Rashard Lewis helped with another 31 points. However the solid play of the up-front big-men is what gave the Sonics the victory. Shawn Kemp had a surprising game as he scored 18 points, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Meanwhile Radmonavic scored 12, rebounded 10, and blocked 3 shots on the night.
Nov. 11th - @Timberwolves
The first loss for the 4-0 Supersonics came on November 11th as the Timberwolves and Kevin Garnett took it to the house. Garnett finished the night with 32 points and 15 rebounds with 5 blocks. The big-man was unstoppable all night long, and the game ended on a sour note as Seattle left down 111 to 116.
Nov. 12th - @Bucks
Their second game in a small road-break here as they went to Milwaukee. The bucks played a decent game, but broke down in the second half. Michael Redd's foul troubles early in the game helped Seattle contain the Bucks scoring, and pull out victorious by 12 points.
Nov 14th - @Pacers
This was a tough game for Seattle. They went to Indiana and played a top-team, they managed to contain Jermaine O'Neal to only 17 points on the night and 6 rebounds. However, Reggie Miller made many clutch 3-point shots to bring Indiana back from 13 down. A missed free-throw by Radmonavic, and a non-foul call on a offensive charge by O'Neal, left Seattle loosing 114 to 115.
Nov 15th - @Bulls
Ray Allen continued to play like a super-star putting up yet another triple-double with ease. He scored 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists to help lift his team up after at ough loss and come out victorious, 102-93.
Nov. 18th - Heat
It's kind of awkward to say it was the team's lowest scoring game of the season so far when it was 98 to 96. But nontheless, Seattle managed to pull out a close game with the Heat. There were 11 lead changes through the matchup, leading to a very exciting finish. A determind Brent Barry managed to recieve the dish from Ronald Murray and lay the ball in for a critical score to give Seattle the 2-point victory.
Nov. 21st - Grizzlies
Yet another victory for this hot Seattle team. A high-scoring affair took place between this tough teams as the Grizzlies managed to put up 106 points against Seattle's mediocre defense. However their outstanding offense is what gave them another victory. A 31 point, 10 rebound, 11 assist game from Ray Allen helped their cause. Not to mention Shawn Kemp putting up a solid 22 points (and 6 rebounds), looking like the Kemp of old.
Nov. 23rd - Wizards
Now a real game took place today. The Washington Wizards and Seattle Supersonics were the least likely matchup to turn into a defensive battle, but that is what took place. Despite a slight surge in shooting late in the 4th quarter, an otherwise quiet came transposed between the two teams. However Seattle's clutch free-throw shooters helped them to obtain the 4 points they needed for victory.
Nov. 28th - @Jazz
A slaughtering occured in Salt Late City this day. Seattle destroyed Utah in every way imaginable. Ray Allen finished with 28 points on the night and a solid 6 steals! Meanwhile Rashard Lewis took the most of the scores as he put up 35 points on the night. Utah was helpless against Seattle's solid playing, and ended up loosing by a margin of 32.
Nov. 29th - Rockets
The Houston Rockets put up a tough game, coming back late in the 4th with some quality 3-pointers by Steve Francis. However the story of the day was Ray Allen and the Rockets Bucket. Allen dropped down 44 points and 11 rebounds in his stellar performance. With Radmonavic helping on the defensive and offensive side at the same time (16 points, 5 blocks, 8 rebounds) the team left with a W in the result column, in a hard fought battle.

October / November Notes
The play of Shawn Kemp has garned much media attention over the past few weeks. Many think it may actually be detracting from the amazing and solid play of Ray Allen, however Allen clearly stated that "I don't really care about publicity as long as we win." The success of the aged veteran is a great story for the NBA at the moment. Many nay-sayers did not expect his return to Seattle to be anything close to glorious, however, he has fought his way through the contentions and managed to be a vital player for the team.

Game Notes
----------------------
Dec. 3rd - Knicks
Ray Allen opened up the month of December with a near triple-double pperformance against the New York Knicks. He put up a solid 34 points, with 12 rebounds, 9 assists, and even 4 steals on the night. Allen continues to impress Seattle with his playing ability, making them all but forget or Gary Payton.
Dec. 5th - Pacers
The Supersonics pulled out a big-game agaisnt one of the top teams in the east, the Indiana Pacers. The game was close until the second half where the Pacers only managed to shoot 39% from the field, and 75% from the free-throw line. The lack of shooting ability by the Pacers allowed Seattle to fully realize a victory.
Dec. 7th - @Raptors
The team with the best record in the league facing off against the team with the worst record in the league. The Toronto Raptors left much to be imagined as they were crushed by Seattle in an offensive outing, 144 to 113. Thanks to Ray Allens 22 points, 7 rebounds, and amazing 17 assists on the night, they pulled out the victory. Brent Barry and Ronald Murray also contributed big games with Barry getting 24 points and 5 steals, and Murray, coming of the bench, racking up 22 points, 9 assists, and 5 steals. Shawn Kemp also helped with his 27 points and 10 rebounds. All players were firing on all cylindars in this game.
Dec. 9th - @Nets
A narrow victory as the Nets managed to pull back in the 4th quarter. With the game tied at 108 after 2 consecutive Rashard Lewis free-throws, it looked like it would go into overtime. However a quick steal and a dunk by Ray Allen made the score 110-108 with only 3 seconds left in the game. Jason Kidd took the ball at half-court and got into three point range. He jumped up, adjusted his shot, and released. The ball bounced off the rim and was grabbed by Shawn Kemp to finalize the game at 110-108 with that miss. The close game marked a near loss for a streaking Seattle team.
Dec. 10th - @Celtics
The first loss of the month was a horrible one. The Supersonics lack of defense allowed the Celtics to destroy them by 40 points. Ray Allen left the game in the 3rd quarter due to foul trouble, meanwhile Rashard Lewis had a bad night from the field, only putting up 14 points.
Dec - 12th - @Pistons
After loosing horribly to the Celtics, the team came back with their best game of the year. Playing one of the top-east teams in the Detroit Pistons, many believed the defensive game of the Pistons would be too much for the high-scoring offense of Seatlte to handle. Oh boy were they wrong! The Supersonics put up an amazing 143 points on the night in their 52 point victory! Ray Allen put up 38 points, 14 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals, meanwhile Ronald Murray had 26 points an an amazing 11 steals coming off the BENCH! Barry's foul trouble allowed Murray more playing time, and it obviously payed off.
Dec. 14th - Bucks
Another glamorous victory for Seattle as they put up a 40 point victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. At the rate Seattle is going they could very easily be considered one of the best offensive teams of all-time at the moment. Barring any breakdowns or lack of playing by Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis in the long run, it looks like it may very well happen.
Dec. 16th - @Suns
Allen put up a 21 point performance with 8 rebounds and 12 assists meanwhile Rashard Lewis backed him up with 22 points and 10 rebounds on the night. The Suns were too undersized to take on the Supersonics offensively, only scoring 72 points in their 19 point loss.
Dec. 17th - Nuggets
The Nuggets seem to have a formula to take on the Supersonics with this victory. They managed to drop the Sonics by 29 points in a 133 - 104 loss. Anthony proved hard to defend as he put up 38 points against the Sonics today.
Dec. 19th - Spurs
After a horrible performance on defense the Sonics managed to put up a solid one against a potential MVP and reigning championship team. The Spurs only put up 72 points, as they managed to contain Duncan to 20 points and 7 rebounds on the night. Not to mention the 30 points, 9 assists - 5 rebounds, and 5 steals by Ray Allen.
Dec. 20th - @Nuggets
That Nugget forumula reared it's ugly haed against as the Supersonics lost to them for the 2nd time. This time, not quiet as embarrissing as the pervious one, however, nonetheless, it was still a loss. The 8 point defeciet ticked off another rare-loss for this Seattle team.
Dec. 23rd - Suns
A 19 point victory for the Supersonics was just what they needed, Ray Allen put up 31 points and Rashard Lewis also had 32 points, accounting for over 2/3rds of the entire team that night. The Suns, once again, were held to only 70 or so points on the night.
Dec. 27th - Timberwovles
A close game ensued between two MVP candidates in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, the two stars brought the bulk of their respective teams scoring as Kevin Garnett tossed up 29 points and Ray Allen put in a solid 39 points. However in the end, Ray Allen and the Supersonics proved victorious as they won by 10 points.
Dec. 29th - @Rockets
After pulling a close victoyr in Minnesota it was time for another solid defensive output by Seattle, and they did just that at Houston. The Rockets ended up being completely contained, only exploding for 27 points in the final quarter of the game. Steve Francis was held to just 13 points on the night as Ray Allen had a great dishing night, but not so much in the points area, with 16 points and 14 assists. Meanwhile the surprise of the game was Nick Collison doing it all over the field as he tallied 5 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal, and 1 assist.
Dec. 30th - @Grizzlies
A huge blowout by the Seattle Supersonics marked the end of the December season. The 41 point victory was a huge one as Ray Allen nearly doubled his points from the previous night to 31, and garned 12 rebounds and 12 assists to get his first triple-double. Brent Barry also had a nice night with 21 points, 5 assists, and an amazing 10 steals. Rashard Lewis led the team in scoring with 33 points and a stylish 4 blocks.

December Notes
December was the month of Steals and Allen, Barry, and even Murray all enjoyed the splendor. However the play of Ronald Murray coming off the bench was a big surprise. His 20+ point nights filling in for Brent Barry have brought up many demands from the fans to get him in the starting lineup. However at the moment it still appears Barry is the man, as his three-point shooting style is a key to Seattle's cut-throat offense.
