WEST: ROUND 1
LAC LEAD 3-1(7) PHOENIX SUNS vs. (2) LOS ANGELES
CLIPPERSUS Airways Center - Phoenix, AZ April 30, 2011 Matchups Steve Nash PG Baron Davis Vince Carter SG Eric Gordon Grant Hill SF Wilson Chandler Antonie Walker PF Blake Griffin Mehmet Okur C DeAndre Jordan GORDON JUMPS OVER THE SUNS, JORDAN OUT, NASH FORCES GAME 5
THE FACTS: Nobody was scoring a single basket early in the game, well nobody but Eric Gordon who put up 24 points in the quarter which included 9-10 shooting and 4-4 from 3Point land. And then on defense, Gordon was making Vince Carter's night a living hell. Eric Gordon was looking to close out the Suns all on his own and they couldn't stop him. In the 2Q Gordon got his rest while Blake Griffin took his turn at dominating the Suns. DeAndre Jordan would go down in the quarter and the Suns would eventually rally to get the game within 5 points at halftime. To start the 3Q, VDN decided to match the Suns small lineup by putting in rookie Al-Farouq Aminu in for the injured DeAndre Jordan. The Suns were a much better team in the second half, but the Clippers kept on coming. The play of the game was with the Clippers up by only 1, Eric Gordon jumps clear over Vince Carter for a slam dunk and a foul on Steve Nash. But the Suns would keep on fighting as Mehmet Okur and Steve Nash caught fire and would go on a run at the end of the quarter to lead by 3 for the first time. In the 4Q, the Clippers looked to restore order, but the Suns would not quit. A costly 3 second call on Vince Carter allowed the Clippers to break the it and take the with less than 2 minutes in the game, but Eric Grodon's 3 Pointer rimmed out. Steve Nash got free and threw up a 3Pointer in the corner with Blake Griffin all over it, but the ball still went in. From there the Suns had all the momentum and road it all the way to a win, avoiding a seep and most importantly to force a Game 5 back in Los Angeles.
THE STAT: Eric Gordon scored 17 of the Clippers first 19 points and ended up scoring 24 points in the quarter, the Suns as a team scored 25
QUOTABLE: Blake Griffin, "It doesn't matter if I get my touches, if EJ is hot...we are going to find him."
HOT: Eric Gordon set a franchise playoff record of 6 3 pointers in the game
NOT: Jared Dudley was dud in this game going 1-6
GOOD MOVE: With the Clippers only up 1 in the 3Q, Eric Gordon elevates OVER Vince Carter and dunks the ball while getting fouled by Steve Nash
BAD MOVE: In the 2Q, Blake Griffin was taken down to the floor hard but no foul was called, and then DeAndre Jordan went for the rebound but landed on his buddy, Blake Griffin, and severely sprained his left ankle
Injuries: DeAndre Jordan sever sprained left ankle, out 2-4 weeks, expected to return late 2nd round or WCFFinal Score:
