Speed finally Win against T'wolves

St. Louis 85 - Minnesota 81

The St. Louis Speed finally have something to cheer about. After losing 12 straight, they avoided unlucky 13 against the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight. Despite the T'wolves having 11 more shots, their lower shooting percentage and fouls eventually sunk their comeback attempt. The Speed made 100% of their 15 fts as the Wolves only got 6 opportunities from the line. The Speed also only commited a mere 5 turnovers to their 30 assists.

"It was great tonight, its nice to get another win. You lose that many in a row and you start wondering if you'll ever win again" said team leader Stromile Swift. "I just hope we can carry on like this the rest of the season."

Rookie Ricky Rubio was all smiles for the first time in months "So we played great tonight. Lets hope we keep playing like this. No more 12 loss streaks."

Speed Coach Raoul Duke was laughing wildly and his eyes were bright behind his trademark aviator sunglasses. While smoking during his press conference he refused to talk about much. "Lets get down to brass tacks man. How much for the ape?" The halftime show had included a live orangutang that obviously the coach was very interested in buying. No questions not about the ape were answered.

Twolves Sources couldnt be reached after this home loss.

Rubio does as well as swift does and vice versa. They probably hold a record for most successful pick and rolls in a game of all time  Thats usually why Mihm and Swift have all my points. Rubio calls for the pick, goes behind it, defenders follow leaving the big man open for the layup

Speed return to their Losing Ways at home

St Louis 84 - Sacramento 105

The St. Louis Speed arena was louder than it had been in a couple months. Why? Their boys were coming home off a strong road win against Minnesota. There was hope for this team yet. Unfortunately, the Speed managed to crush their fans by losing in a blowout to the Kings. 0 Second Chance points, and being outrebounded 29-21 made it difficult for the Speed to keep up with the Kings scoring, especially when Sacto shot 50 percent from beyond the arc.

"You take away those 3s and its a 1 point game" said Speed Coach Raoul Duke "We didnt play as bad as this score looks. They got hot, and we had no answer. We're gonna be running perimeter D practice during the all star break though. Just in case."

Rookie Israeli Omri Casspi was hit one of the 8 3s for the Kings. Casspi, who will be the token big man for the Horse Competition laughed. "They left me open. I was a little surprised but hey it worked."

In the battle of the two rookie of the year candidates Ricky Rubio and Tyreke Evans, not only did Tyreke's team come out on top, but from the looks of things he won the battle. While the rookies went point for point and assist for assist against each other, Tyreke had 2 more steals than Rubio.

"It was frustrating. Everything I tried to do, Tyreke just stretched out and took it. He's a great player but next time, he wont be so lucky" said Rubio jokingly. "Ill be ready."

After another blowout loss, the Speed are starting to look like the Aints and Pirates of legend in other sports. Will they be able to bounce back after the all star break and win a few? Or are they simply planning ahead and intend to tank?

Quick Speed News updates

Two stories have come out of the Speed front office today after their loss to the Kings.

Center and 2nd place scorer of the Speed Chris Mihm is upset about being snubbed from the All Star team. "My stats scoring make up for the slightly lower rebounding numbers as compared to Dwight and David. Also, David's team may be the only one worse in the league than us right now. Why is he even there?" Experts say that with the Speed's record, theres no way they were going to get 3 All stars. Many are amazed they even have 2. But should wins matter if we're talking about stats? No one quite knows. Mihm is happy with the team, just not happy with the All Star proceedings.

The other news out of the Speed front office is that Stromile Swift scored his 5000th point in the loss against the Kings. "I know I didnt necessarily live up to the hype coming out of college. Im just glad that Coach Duke and Doc Gonzo have given me a chance to prove myself on the Speed. Hopefully, I can stay up to their high standards."

Swift and his teammates Ricky Rubio and Chris Mihm have been the main positive for the Speed this year with other players greatly underperforming and having consistency issues.

West crushes East in All Star Game

IN a game that was never even close the West Westerners destroyed the East Easterners 76-56. Game MVP was Chris Paul with 14 pts 3 reb and 7 ast. Local favorites from the St. Louis Speed greatly underperformed despite large chunks of playing time. Ricky Rubio managed 1 reb 2 ast and 1 stl in 14 minutes while Stromile Swift added 2 pts and 3 reb in 10 minutes of play. The festivities seemed to be a flop this year with the low scoring game and lack of any other events. When asked why everything but the All Star Game was cancelled David Stern just said "Nothings recession proof. We could barely pay for this game."

In other Speed News, Jerry Stackhouse has expressed an interest in staying in St. Louis when his current contract runs out.

Next up on the Speed's agenda are the division leading Raptors. Can they keep from losing back to back games? Our experts say probably not but stay tuned to find out.

Re: St Louis Speed (8-15 Raptors outscore Speed by 10 in 4th)

Speed fall to Division Leading Raptors

St Louis 85 - Toronto 100

Bad things happen when you turn the ball over and for the St. Louis Speed that meant a 15 point loss to division rivals (and leaders) the Toronto Raptors. The game was relatively close until the 4th quarter where the Raptors outscored the Speed 28-18. Then, passes kept being tipped, shots were errant, and defense was like straining pasta. Sure Noodles didnt slip through, but a ton of water did.

"We have alot to work on" said Coach Raoul Duke "When we fix a problem like bench points or rebounding, we end up losing the turnover battle. We fix the turnover battle, we lose the shooting percentage. We're gonna practice hard for our next few games and hopefully turn this team around by season's end. Do any of you happen to have any whiskey? No? Well then, I'm off. You guys will wait right?"

The press confusedly didnt answer.

"Its tough man, no matter what we do no matter how we play, we just keep losing. Like Coach Duke said, if its not one thing its another" said team leader Stromile "Surge" Swift. Despite a relatively weak career so far Swift is in the talks for the MIP this year having gone from league journeyman to All Star Inside Scorer with the Speed. He 's been named the East player of the week 2 times this year. "I mean, i'm used to losing. I was on the Grizzlies and Nets. But when you have so many people contributing and still lose? thats baffling."

Part of the blame has to fall on Ricky Rubio who commited 7 of the 11 turnovers the speed had singlehandedly. "I didnt play my best tonight. It was like Conley knew what I was going to do. Im gonna have to disguise my moves better next game" said the young Spaniard.

In other Speed News, Stromile Swift and Chris Mihm are both in the top 5 of true shooting percentage in the league. ITs just too bad this hasnt resulted in wins lately for the expansion team.

Heat Roast Speed at Home

St. Louis 71 - Miami 94

The St. Louis Speed front office released an announcement today that for each time they are blocked or miss a shot, they pay for the equal cost of a brick for Habitat for Humanity. They did their part tonight building almost an entire house as they shot 44% from the field and were blocked 11 times

Wait what? That was a joke? They're actually this bad? Sadly for St. Louis fans, there are only 2 worse teams in the league (NYK and Minnesota, they've beaten both this year). Tonight the Speed hung with the Heat for the 1st quarter. Then, it looked like a different team on the floor. After scoring 22 in the first, they never broke more than 17 in the following periods. The Heat credited some different defenses they threw at them.

"We switched it up. Most people just play a regular man to man on them and they tear it up with the pick and roll. Thats how they got ahead in the first. So we decided to play a zone. If they ran the pick and roll, we had a guy there to stop the open passing lane. We left Rashad and Trevor open on the perimeter. Luckily, they didnt punish us for it." said player of the game Dwyane Wade. The Speed made one of nine shots from behind the arc. With each brick, the Heat pulled away slowly but steadily until it was too much to overcome.

When asked if the defense was the cause for this rash of 3pt Coach Raoul Duke had a response "Of course it was. Rashad had a great open percentage on tehe year. Just unfortunately tonight it wasnt falling." He proceeded to pull out a glass with ice and a bottle of wild turkey and began drinking during the Press conference. The press conference ended without much else being said as Coach Duke drank himself into a stupor finishing the bottle even asking one female reporter "How much they pay you to *expletive deleted* that bear?" He was slapped and helped out of the room by team officials.

When the whiskey smell dissipated out of the room the interviews with players continued with the Speed leaders Ricky Rubio, Stromile Swift, and Chris Mihm.

"The D didn't throw us off. Rashad missing alot of shots did though." said rookie out of Spain Rubio. "I was giving him good passes and he admitted alot of this loss is on him. Not to knock him or anything. He's the one that said it after the game."

"Its tough man, me and Chris are bangers, thats what we do. We live and die by the low post game. The whole point of that is to open up the outside shots. But when you're shooters arent making it? It kinda kills the plan" said Stromile Surge Swift: the Speed's rather consistent point leader.

"I almost pulled a double double. Alot of nights that'd be enough to beat teams in this league. I dont think Miami played that well. I think we played that bad." said Chris Mihm. Mihm despite being statistically better than other centers invited to the ASG has been vocally critical of the NBA in recent weeks often disrespecting officials, other players, and teams in the manner you just heard. The Speed cant afford to lose him though so we'll see how they handle his constant fines.

This is the Speed's 3rd straight loss since beating the Timberwolves a few weeks ago. Alot of folks are amazed they even did that. One fan with a bag over his head actually told reporters "If we don't win the rest of the season, that'd actually be better. Give us a better shot in the draft"

Spurs survive feisty Speed

St. Louis 82 - San Antonio 89

The Spurs looked surprised. They were at home. They're cruising into the playoffs. The Speed havent been good since the first month. So why the hell weren't they going down without a fight? I mean could an expansion team actually challenge a team often in the conversation for NBA Team of the decade?

The answer: almost. Despite being swiped 12 time and allowing 18 The expansion St. Louis Speed tried their hardest to stay in the game. They had even managed to get a lead at the half. They held their own in the third scoring only 18 but holding the Spurs to only 22. At critical times in the fourth, roleplayers including Rashad Mccants and Trevor Ariza made buckets to keep it close. However as the game wound down and the Speed were still down, they tried the old "foul and hope they miss" routine. Thanks to clutch freethrows by Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, despite a couple 3pt plays by the Speed, the Spurs came out on top.

"You ever sit outside in the summer time by the pool and theres those gnats? You swat and you swat and you think you got rid of them. But the second you move your hand, they swarm back in to your face. Thats how the Speed were tonight. They refused to go down." said Spurs Coach Greg Poppovich "Plus, I didnt have to resort to hack-a-shaq"

"They're actually a pretty good team. They almost got us and who knows..in a year or 2, they very well might. It just wasnt their night" said veteran Spur Tim Duncan.

The Speed despite the loss were optimistic. Coach Raoul Duke actually came out sober (not that it lasted long) and answered questions "As always ,we have some things to work on. But we hung with the Spurs. One of the deepest teams with the most playoff experience of almost anybody. If we hang with them, we have something good starting here. I can feel it." As the interview continued Coach Duke began sweating profusely "My blood is too thick for San Antonio, could never properly explain myself in this climate. Same things happened to me in Vegas" Many reporters theorize rather than being sober the coach just had a slow acting drug in his system.

The Speed players were also smiling postgame. Chris Mihm stopped bashing the ASG selection process and managed to complment the Spurs "They're a great team. If i was a gambling man, I'd put money on them in any clutch situation. I was just happy to have a good game against them. I love playing against them."

Rookie Ricky Rubio despite a slightly poor performance was also happy with the competitive nature of this game "Tony and Manu are two of my idols. Its great to play against them and really see what they can do on the court. Don't worry. One day I'll shoot like Tony, and swat bats like Manu" Rubio said jokingly.

The Speed are pretty much only in the running for a #1 pick at this point and have quietly accepted the fact to base their season on potential rather than performance. "Dont worry. We're not going anywhere. after all...you took my woman man! on the elevator! But Im gonna blast you out of bed with the fire hose" said Speed GM Dr. Gonzo

Speed Upset Hornets behind 80% shooting

St. Louis 101 - New Orleans 93

The St. Louis Speed expansion team must've seen this coming after their loss to the Spurs yesterday. Vegas had their chances so low that only one person took the bet. He put down 1k on the speed. He's now 99 thousand dollars richer as the Speed jumped out to an early lead and never let it go.

How did they manage that? Almost never missing a shot. The Speed shot an 80% on their 52 shots. While the Hornets had more opportunities, their much lower 60% allowed the St. Louis players to simply only have to keep up rather than come from behind.

Coach Byron Scott of the Hornets said "Its hard to beat any team thats shooting that well. If we expect to do anything in playoffs we better improve our D a little bit. They killed us in the paint." 80 of the Speed's 101 points were in the paint.

Chris Paul remarked "We underestimated them. We saw their record and their stats and said we got this easy. We need to prepare better. Tonight was pathetic on the defensive side for us."

The Speed were celebrating, oddly enough despite only recording their 9th win of the season.

"Its all about potential guys. We're happy to be going out strong and not going down without a fight . Sure we're a lottery team, but we're only gonna get better" said Speeds leader the majority of the year Stromile Swift.

The Hornets were unhappy with the celebration and post game had to be seperated in an altercation between Chris Mihm and Emeka Okafor. "He wasnt happy with how things were going down in the post. I think he's just upset I blocked him that many times" said Mihm good naturedly afterwards. "I gotta stop all this trouble...I cant afford it much longer"

The Speed had lost 4 straight before tonight's game.

Bulls Gore Speed

St. Louis 72 - Chicago 105

The Bulls came out tough and easily handed the St. Louis Speed their 18th loss of the season. The Speed offense just couldngt get going as they only scored more than 20 points in the fourth quarter against the Bulls Bench. The expansion team couldn't get anything going besides free throws out of team leader Stromile "Surge" Swift

"There are nights like the game against the Hornets you shoot 80%. Then there are nights like this where nothing will fall. It happens to everybody" said Swift post game

Speed's eccentric coach Raoul Duke said calmly slicing up a grapefruit with a hunting knife during his press conference. "It was rough tonight, we lost, but hey, only 2 more games left and then the draft. Should be an exciting time.." He then calmly ate his grapefruit off the edge of the knife while fielding questions without much else being said.

The Speed fall to 9-18 and are hoping to win the draft lottery.

The closest to that that I remember was Anthony Carter with 0 points and 15 assists a couple of years ago.

hehe yeah that doesnt happen much in real life. If i get him a real go to guy i bet i can break the skiles record of 30. Rubio needs to cut his turnovers down though..he's averaging 5 or so a game. There should be player evals coming after i play the Clips and the C's with a "the good, the bad, the ugly" approach for each player.

Also question: what do you guys wanna see for playoffs/end of the year: Awards and then maybe a playoff summary/overall standings for the year?

Also a draft targets and possibly FA targets for offseason coming in the next week or so. Got some schoolwork and girlfriend time to spend so may be delayed a little bit but we'll see.

I had the exactly same things with Andre Miller, when I had an 76ers association. He was averaging over 10 assists per game, but he scored more often 2 points than 8+ points. It was the result of constant abusing of pick&roll, plus I just didn't know how to score with him (or with most other point guards).

Back on topic, I prefer the way you have been lately playing, not getting so much wins, thus keeping it more realistic. 2 more games, then the offseason?

Yup that'd be the plan. With only 2 left i figured i might as well play em out as tempting as it is to sim through. If I don't win another game thats alright. I should probably do some test exhibitions though and see if i had a good team if i'd win at all. Gunning for a couple big name FA's like the Knicks are doing. Plus hopefully a lottery pick i can develop

Clippers out-tough Speed late to finish them Off

St. Louis 76 - Los Angeles 107

The blue collar St. Louis Speed crowd was trying to be loud tonight. Their team was working hard, hustling, trying to keep the game close. Then as the game didnt so much slip as rush away in the 4th quarter: the arena emptied out slowly but surely leaving only the diehard fans in the seats. In the 4th the Speed were outscored 33-14 while committing 8 team fouls. Baron Davis led the way for the Clippers with Rookie Blake Griffin (rehabbed from his knee injury) not far behind. Griffin only missed 1 shot in the entirety of the game.
"It feels good to be out there and actually playing man. This is why i left Oklahoma" said Griffin

The Speed team's press conference is getting used to being about the loss. Often times the loss isnt nearly as big a deal as the controversial antics of team Coach and GM Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo.

"There's no excuse for that" said Speed Coach Raoul Duke "except maybe devil ether. There is nothing more depraved in the world than men on an ether binge. Thats sorta what we looked like today."

"We tried man, it just got away from us. Its been a long season. Honestly, most of us just wanna see our families and get to the offseason" said team leader Stromile Swift.

The Speed drop yet another game after being seen as a "team to beat" early in the season. They'll try to end the season on a high note against a strong Celtics team.
