Nice win. Good to see Joe Alexander being productive despite being a bad basketball player.

I see that Detroit is doing their best Golden State Warriors impression by loading up their team with 18 thousand guards. Both teams now have log jams at certain positions, so maybe you can try to swing a deal with one of them if you feel unhappy with Redd's play.

Hova, I might just stick to quick sim since it's quicker. Might have to follow your lead & turn off trades outside of just before trade deadline & offseason. Had to reverse a Mike James-Andre Nocioni deal the other day  Seems T.J. Ford is back on block but I won't let Dumars trade him again yet  Have been offered Shaq for Redd (Cavs still want him), but no way do I want to ruin my team with the Diesel. Apparently Pietrus is on table from Magic for Ridnour, but don't know if I want Euro Jordan on my books for next few seasons.

Cheers Henry. Will do.

Nice backhanded complement :o I've had many great NBA memories of Joe Alexander. Actually only really one. He helped get me drunk on Draft Night because I said I would finish my vessel if Jay Bilas raved about Alexander's "great length" and his "freakish athleticism". Needless to say I drank.

I guess I always jump on bandwagon of one white American each draft as my token next "Great White Hope". Luke Jackson let me down :( Adam Morrison's career for the most part would be better suited to an Iron Maiden roadie :( At least J.J. Redick is starting to shine. Then there is Mr. Alexander. Still hoping to see if the kid can translate his "great length" & "freakish athleticism" to NBA life :P

Let's see if it can be done in a played game rather than a simmed one :P

If there was one guard out of those teams I'd go for, it'd be Monta Ellis (& no, I wouldn't kill him off. Cheap dig at Lamrock for Joe Alexander comment :P )

SPOTLIGHT: COLLEGE HOOPS (PART 1 OF 2)
By The X
11 December 2009

As we are now firmly in December, I thought I'd take a quick break from the NBA to take a look over at the college brand of the game & see what the next wave of stars could bring come 2010.

STARTING FIVE

PG- John Wall, 6'4", 195lbs, Fr (Kentucky)
19.0ppg, 3.8rpg, 7.0apg, 3.0spg, 4.8TOpg

In his very first game as a collegiate player, John Wall hit a game winning jumper against Miami of Ohio and has been setting the college game alight ever since. North Carolina coach Roy Williams called him the best point guard to enter the college scene since Jason Kidd. Wall already seems to be locked in as the consensus number one pick in the 2010 Draft. The only thing that could stop that is serious injury or self-capitulation. Much like Derrick Rose, defenders are going to struggle to stay in front of this kid once he hits the pros.

phpBB [video]

Strengths:
- Supreme athlete
- Great speed and turn of pace
- Good size for a point guard
- Unstoppable in the open floor
- Has all the necessary skills and attributes to become a dominate player on the next level

Weaknesses:
- Very turnover prone
- Over-dribbles in half court set
- Inconsistent outside shot
- Huge ego

phpBB [video]

Insider NBA Comparison: Pre-injury Baron Davis
Best Case Scenario: Derrick Rose (better defending version)

Draft Ranking: Top overall pick

SG/SF- Evan Turner, 6'7", 205lbs, Jr (Ohio State)
20.6ppg, 12.9rpg, 6.6apg, 1.6spg, 1.4bpg, 4.4TOpg (stats exclude injury game)

Evan Turner opened the season with only the Buckeyes' second ever triple double in the team's history. He followed it up with his second career triple double only two weeks later. This kid can just flat out play. Unfortunately in only his eight game of this young season, Evan Turner fractured his back after a dunk and is expected to miss about two months of action. This comes as a real shame to Evan Turner and Buckeyes' fans as he was looking odds on favourite to win National Player of the Year honours. It is now up to Turner to see if he can return from this injury 100% and cement himself as one of the best players in college basketball and validate his lofty 2010 draft status.

phpBB [video]

Strengths:
- Very cerebral player who gets the job done
- Good midrange game
- Good finisher
- Good playmaker
- Good handle
- Ability to play anywhere from the 1 to the 3
- Plays every possession and hustles

Weaknesses:
- Not a great perimeter shooter yet
- Tendency to over-dribble
- A little turnover prone (however it must be said that he has taken on the role as his team's point guard this season)

phpBB [video]

Insider NBA Comparison: Less athletic version of Andre Iguodala
Best Case Scenario: Brandon Roy meets Josh Childress

Draft Ranking: Top 5 pick

Part 2 will follow in coming days. Enjoy.

I'll have to take another look. Maybe you'll move into top 70 as season progresses

And besides, it's not like projected late 2nd Rounders get anything written about them outside of footnotes

Sweet college analysis. That Turner injury was somewhat unfortunate and dumb at the same time. He should have done a backflip like Adam Wandell or whatever his name is.
I need to scout this guy fast I guess as he his putting up decent numbers. Don't think he is interesting for the Bucks though as you really want a PF.

Great recap. This association is going far better than your 2K6 and 2K7 ones (don't wanna jinx it though!) I'm really enjoying it. I'd say the most realistic Wall comparison would be Derrick Rose as is. Best case scenario is Derrick Rose, but actually good.

I have a gut feeling you end up with Evan Turner.

Yes, I agree that Turner's injury looked really stupid & avoidable. But yes, a guy like Evan Turner makes sense for the Bobcats :P

As for me, yes, it's likely I'll take a PF, although it depends who is left. If it's not a PF who can help me then I'll go with best available talent. Fortunately for me there is almost half a dozen good PF's in this draft :P

Cheers. Although it has to be my best 2k Association as I didn't have a NBA 2k6 or 2k7 Association  I did have a season long College Hoops 2k8 legacy, but that's as close as you get. Might have had a College Hoops 2k7 Open Legacy one too. I think the 2k Blog thing is helping. I definitely wouldn't have started one without it. Makes uploaded pics & stats so much easier

Also, you do know that the Insider Comparisons are 2k's & not mine? I would never have chosen B-Diddy as a comparison, that's for sure. I just wanted to include them so everybody knew what the game "thought". The best case scenarios have been concocted by me though.

As for Evan Turner, I can only dream he drops to me. I'm in playoff positioning at moment, so no guarantees I'll even be in the lottery :o

Top update dude (Y) I hadn't even heard about this Tuner fella till your posted him here, seems a sweet player though. Im always one for drafting the best avaliable talent. Worst case you can always move them. Its only when there a a few similar players on the board that I start being a bit more biased towards position.

You gonna predict in my thread? Your lucky I didnt get the recap completed tonight :p

Cheers, yep, I've been bitten in the past for not taking the best available talent so will try to make amends this time around :)

As for your thread, might actually skip predictions. A lot of Associations have them these days & it's hard to keep up with them all so I just don't them anymore (with exception of Sit's ones as I'm already locked into those). I don't mind if I'm not an NLSC draftee as I've been there & done it & others should have their turn. Will still be definitely viewing & commentating in your thread though :P

LINE OF THE NIGHT
By The X
12 December 2009

Thaddeus Young: 33mins, 19pts, 6-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-7 FT, 6rebs, 3asts, 6stls, 1blk, 1TO

Whilst his play wasn't enough to get the 76ers over the line against the Bucks, 3rd year forward Thaddeus Young had a strong night and was pretty much unstoppable when he wanted to be. Milwaukee just didn't have an answer as it threw multiple looks at him, but time and time again, Thaddeus Young delivered. Thaddeus Young definitely has a growing legion of fans, both inside and outside the league and could be a hot commodity if and when he becomes a free agent in 2011.

Good win, you are definitely sharing the ball. That's what I do usually but it can be a problem I guess as I have never had any success in a Dynasty :D
More points from Redd, Jennings or Bogut would definitely help you imo. Seeing Bogut taking over in real life I hope that you somehow can translate that to your Dynasty.

Yep, I always felt I was going to win this game. Yes, I want to get Bogut going more. He actually had 10 & 9 in 1st half but had a quieter 2nd half. I do want to see more production out of Redd though, that's for sure.

SPOTLIGHT: COLLEGE HOOPS (PART 2 OF 2)
By The X
13 December 2009

Today I continue my search for my starting five college basketball players that could possibly make a big impact next season. For part 1 of my coverage, please see here.

STARTING FIVE (cont'd)

PF- Derek Favors, 6'10", 246lbs, Fr (Georgia Tech)
13.5ppg, 8.3rpg, 2.1bpg

Coming in as one of the top high school recruits, Derek Favors has not disappointed as he has played solidly and is living up to the billing as one of the top prospects of the 2009 high school class. Whilst I have not seen much of him personally, NBA scouting contacts I have rave about his explosiveness at the PF position and teams already have him pegged as a high lottery pick whenever he declares. Judging by what I hear, NBA personnel won’t have to wait any longer than spring for Favors to declare his intentions to enter the NBA next season.

Strengths:
- Explosive athlete
- Runs floor well for a big man
- Strong rebounder
- Extraordinarily long wingspan
- Soft hands
- Very teachable

Weaknesses:
- Needs to get stronger
- Face-up game is lacking
- Raw on offense
- Needs to improve footwork

phpBB [video]

Insider NBA Comparison: Dirk Nowitzki (without the 3pt shot)
Best Case Scenario: Amar'e Stoudemire

Draft Ranking: Top 5 pick

SG/PG- Willie Warren, 6'4", 200lbs, Soph (Oklahoma)
19.6ppg, 26.8% 3Pt, 5.1apg, 1.3spg, 3.9TOpg

Willie Warren is a scoring guard through and through. Despite the fact his perimeter shot has been off target through the first month of the season, don't let that make you believe that he can't hit them consistently, because it's quite the contrary. Warren broke out as a freshman for Oklahoma and NBA scouts have been salivating ever since. Despite the fact he's a bit undersized to play shooting guard, that hasn't stopped the likes of Ben Gordon and Dwayne Wade from succeeding.

Strengths:
- Explosive scoring combo guard
- Reliable outside shot
- Strong handles

Weaknesses:
- Undersized for an NBA shooting guard, but not a good enough floor leader to play point guard
- Shoot first, pass last mentality
- Tends to over-dribble

phpBB [video]

Insider NBA Comparison: Jason Terry
Best Case Scenario: Ben Gordon meets Rodney Stuckey

Draft Ranking: Top 5 pick

C- Cole Aldrich, 6'11", 245lbs, Jr (Kansas)
12.0ppg, 9.6rpg, 3.6bpg

Don't let the numbers fool you, Aldrich is a very capable big man playing on the best team in the nation, the Kansas Jayhawks. And playing on the best team in the nation, somebody has to take less shots and Aldrich seems to be that man, with fellow 2010 draft prospects Xavier Henry and Sherron Collins taking on the bulk of the scoring load. One thing you can't take away from him is that he is clearly the best centre in college basketball. That speaks as highly for Aldrich's skills as it does for the dearth of quality pivots in today's game.

Strengths:
- Good fundamentals
- Good footwork and improving post game
- Runs floor well for a big man
- Soft hands
- Good shot blocker
- Good rebounder

Weaknesses:
- Lacks NBA-level athleticism
- Needs to get stronger
- Unorthodox shooting style
- What you see is what you get with low upside

phpBB [video]

Insider NBA Comparison: Chris Kaman
Best Case Scenario: Brook Lopez

Draft Ranking: Lottery pick

So there you have it, here's my fab five 2010 draft prospects from college hoops:

    PG- John Wall
    SG/SF- Evan Turner
    PF- Derek Favors
    SG/PG- Willie Warren
    C- Cole Aldrich
Enjoy.

I wouldn't personally want Wall to tell you the truth. I'm not a fan of egotistical PG's that rely solely on athleticism (i.e. Francis, Rose, etc). I prefer the Deron Williams of the World.

If we played a halfcourt game, I would be a good sixth man. If we played an uptempo, fast break game, you would be sixth man :P
