Odom Injured in Bulls win over Clippers
December 17th 2008

Image
Bulls forward Lamar Odom, who is having a career season thus far for his new team, has sustained a twisted ankle earlier this evening in the game against the Los Angeles Clippers here in Chicago.

Odom landed on Clippers Center Chris Kaman's foot as he came down from getting a rebound early in the 3rd quarter, but he was able to return to the game in the 4th. He finished the game with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

He is listed as day-to-day but head coach Vinny Del Negro has put him on the inactive rotation, and he'll stay there until the injury has healed, Odom will therefore, not travel with the team to Boston on the 19th. and most likely would not play until the 3 game road trip on beginning on thursday next week in Miami.

"I had a chat to the trainers and to Lamar, we discussed it, and thought it was best to avoid reaggravating the injury, it'll be tough without him, but it would be even worse if the injury was made worse because he was playing with the injury." said Del Negro

Rudy Fernandez will start in place of Odom at the Small Forward position until Odom returns

Timberwolves looking to fire Head Coach Randy Wittman?
December 17th 2008

Image
After a 8-17 start to the season, rumors have began to arise about the possibility of the Timberwolves management planning to fire their head coach Randy Wittman.

Even if Wittman feels the pressure, he still feels as though his team is close to turning the corner.

"No, all you can do is prepare each day, that's all you can do," Wittman said. "I'm not going to worry about that. I've been in this business 25 years. I know what you have to do to be successful and that's what I'm trying to do."

Williams gets starting nod
December 17th 2008

Image
Sean Williams, the guy who Bulls owner Dennis Rodman said is the next himself, has gotten the starting nod from Bulls head coach Vinny Del Negro after impressive performances in the last while.

Williams has averages of 9.4 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.1 bpg in 20 minutes per game, he is shooting 70.5% from the field and 73% from the line. He has averaged 15 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 2 apg, 0.8 spg, and 2.4 bpg in his last 5 games.

"Sean has just been great lately, his hard work has paid off and he has improved dramatically over the last month or so." said Bulls head coach Vinny Del Negro "He deserves to start and the team needs him"

Williams would be starting at Power Forward, in place of Drew Gooden, who has been struggling as of late.

Interesting to see Williams start at PF. Let's see how that pans out. And tough luck with Odom injured.

Williams has been terrific as of late, completely up to the expectations of The Worm :) Odom's injury came at the wrong time...Celtics are hard to play against...but i'm lucky it's a minor injury and would be completely recovered in a week :)

yeah, lucky for me he's not Monta Ellis and would be back in a week :D and he put up career highs before he went down, so that was good
as for Sean, he was already doing great, now that he's starting and getting more minutes he'll be a monster inside

Odom-less Bulls comes up short against Defending Champs in OT
Image

Ben Gordon hit 2 clutch 3 pointers near the end of regulation and sent the game into overtime, but without Lamar Odom there to save the day, they were unable to find an answer for the amazing play from Celtics veteran guard Eddie House, who provided much more then just a spark off the bench, as he scored 35 points, including 8 for 12 from three point land, in just 18 minutes of play, and led the Celtics, alongside Ray Allen's 30 points (6 for 11 from three) to outplay the Bulls in overtime and come away with the 131-125 victory.

Even though they suffered a tough loss, the game was not all without it's benefits for the visiting Chicago Bulls, as some of the players showcased their abilities against the defending champs, and played beyond expectations; this mainly applied to Sean Williams, who just got changed into a starter by head coach Vinny Del Negro, and he had a great game, getting 20 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block in 29 minutes of play, and most importantly, he completely held down Boston all star forward Kevin Garnett to just 6 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 block in 37 minutes of play. The other relatively new big man for the Bulls, Marcus Camby also had a great game, getting 8 points, 15 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots in 28 minutes.

Ben Gordon regained his stroke today, going 12 for 17 from the field (5 for 9 from three) en-route to his team high 30 points, Derrick Rose was as good as usual, scoring 25 points and dished out 12 assists in 33 minutes of play.

But the Bulls could not stop the Celtics, as the defending champs, led by Eddie House and Ray Allen, shot 18 for 34 from beyond the arc, they also went to the line 27 times, sinking in 23 of those free throws, and despite getting out rebounded 50 to 37, the bench, led by Eddie House's career night, outscored the Bulls bench, which was weakened with the rotation of Rudy Fernandez going to the starting lineup in place for the injured Lamar Odom, 55 to 25 points, that 30 point differences from the 2 benches is much more then enough to sink the Bulls, the defending champs also had 14 steals.

The Bulls' 5 game winning steak was snapped by the Celtics after this game, they now drop to 19-7 while the Cs are now 17-10.

Hinrich could be dealt before trade deadline?
December 19th 2008

Image
Sources close to the Bulls have leaked out possibilities of Chicago looking to accept trade offers with regards to their floor general Kirk Hinrich.
Hinrich has been a big part of the Bulls in the past few years, but recent struggles last season and the fact that Derrick Rose was drafted by the Bulls meant that Hinrich is now a 6th man for the Windy City, he has had flashes of good play and some great games but has been fairly inconsistent and most of the time struggling in the reserved role; Hinrich's contract is not a bad one since it decreases over time, but it is around 10 million dollars a year and it's still got 4 years left, the Bulls, under new owner Dennis Rodman, has undergone drastic changes in order to build the team around Rose and newly acquired Lamar Odom in hopes of reviving the Bulls Dynasty once again, and at the moment, Kirk Hinrich's terrible play, and his big payroll on the team's salary cap, is seemingly, in the way.

Rumor has it that some offers the Bulls are considering for Hinrich include the 76ers' Andre Miller, who has an expiring contract with an amount that's same as Hinrich's one this season, or Richard Hamilton of the Pistons, who also has an expiring contract; or, the Bulls can go towards other directions, and trade away the duo of Hinrich and Gordon together for an even bigger expiring in the likes of Shawn Marion, who has a 17 million dollar expiring this season, but either way, the Bulls would end up with enough cap to throw a few max contracts at some free agents like Allen Iverson, or if they are lucky, Kobe Bryant this coming off season, or they could wait for the Lebron James and co free agent class of 2010; Either way, it's a perfect opportunity to complete the roster and head towards the Larry O'Brien Trophy

Tough loss against the Cs. Seems like the PGs jack up a huge amount of shots with your settings. Thus House was a monster.

Although I like Hinrich on 2k (was maybe my best player in my 82 games Bulls 2k8 association) I understand that you want to trade him. An expiring contract would certainly help you.
But Rip Hamiltons contract is not expiring, is it?

Well, i was double teaming the big three all game long, didn't really notice how much House was dropping on me until nearly the end of the game..PGs don't usually shoot unless getting a pass out of a double team, or shot clock running down for my settings, so that time i think i just used double team too much :P
I like Hinrich too, but he's too inconsistent for me so far...i cant nail shots with him, cant drive and finish strong...Hamilton is an expiring in my game right now with a 2 year team option(Alby's RR5), i don't think he is that in real life though, so most likely i'll do the Miller offer if i am going to trade Hinrich away
if i get a big expiring, don't resign gooden and/or gordon and don't resign the expiring, i'll have roughly 24-25 million to throw at a superstar, hopefully Iverson, or if lucky, Kobe. There's always guys like Artest if i cant get those 2 :)

Odom's injury is ahead of schedule, will return for game against Pistons
December 22nd 2008

Image
Bulls forward Lamar Odom, who had a twisted ankle on the 17th in the game against the Clippers, was due to be fully recovered 3 days later, on the road trip against the Miami Heat, but he is now recovered ahead of schedule and will return to play for the Bulls against the Pistons tonight.

"It feels great, i can move, i can slide, i can change directions, i can jump, it's completely normal and i'll be ready at 100% tonight" said Odom

Home sweet home: Bulls shuts down Superman Howard
Image

For the Bulls, There's simply no place like home

The Chicago Bulls. who just went 2-2 on a 4 game road trip that spanned almost 2 full weeks, were once again the unstoppabulls in the United Center; Led by Lamar Odom's near triple double performance, the Bulls dominated the whole game and, although the score was close all the way through, they never allowed the Magic to take control of the ball game.

Odom was just 2 rebounds shy of another triple double performance (he has 4 in this season so far) with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists, and with help from mostly Ben Gordon, Derrick Rose, and Sean Williams, the Bulls outplayed Dwight "Superman" Howard's Magic from start to finish. Ben Gordon went 7 for 10 from the field, including 3 for 3 from three point land for 17 points, while Derrick Rose had 17 points, 7 assists and 3 steals to help the cause, 2nd year man Sean Williams continued his outstanding play for the Bulls, scoring 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but it was his terrific defense that helped the Bulls shut down Dwight Howard down low, and he had 2 blocks and 2 steals recorded on the stat sheet, however, that is nearly not enough to show just how much trouble he gave superman.

Howard went 8 for 18 from the field for 17 points, he grabbed just 8 rebounds in the entire game, something that rarely happens as he is the league's best at rebounding, he did, however, managed to block 4 shots.

Orlando was led by Hedo Turkoglu's 24 points and Rashard Lewis' 20 point 9 rebound performance, as well as Jameer Nelson's 13 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists night that had kept the Magic in the game throughout the night, but it was not enough, as 6 of the Bulls scored in double figures and the Magic bench was outscored 40 to 11 by the Bulls bench, they forced 17 tunrovers as opposed to their 11 but was unable to take advantage of that, getting outscored in fast break points and second chance points 13-8, 10-8, respectively; and most surprisingly, they were out rebounded 43 to 34, something that has rarely happened in the Dwight Howard era.

The Bulls are now on a 5 game winning steak at home (1 game winning streak overall), and now hold an overall record of 22-8, while the Magic drop to 17-13.
