Woah. Strange moves there. And talk about a weak bench. Hopefully it works out for you. Good luck.

I have no qualms with a small lineup, or the trades for that matter. I just thought they were strange, is all. And the thing that struck me most was how weak the bench is, and how much Kobe and Artest have to play. Hopefully they don't get too fatigued by season's end.

Close Game, But Lakers Fail to Connect in Final Quarter

Box Score
Lakers: 106
Warriors: 111

Kobe Bryant flies pass Stephen Jackson for a slam

With the score tied from the start of the 4th quarter, the Golden State Warriors seemed to be too much for the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe gave a little hope for the Laker fans as he drained a 3-pointer from the corner to make the game 106-109 Warriors. However, it was all downhill from there. The Warriors made shot after shot, getting steals from lousy passes.

Phil Jackson was furious and called a time-out with 1:12 on the clock. "Whats going on through your heads? Quit making lousy passes and turning the ball over! Artest get in there and make some steals so we can turn this game around!"

However, the anger from Phil Jackson didn't seem to wake up the Lakers. They were scoreless in the final minutes, while the Warriors sealed the game to win it 111-106.

Artest's Defense Leads to a 'W'

Box Score
Lakers: 119
Jazz: 116

Image
Artest had 4 steals and 2 blocks

The Los Angeles Lakers faced the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night. The Jazz went in to the game with a record of 41-15, while the Lakers went in with a record of 30-27. Point guard Deron Williams' playing time was cut short as he sat on the bench most of the game with a sore ankle. Andre Kirilenko also sat on the bench most of the game due to a sore knee. It was close all throughout the game with the score tied in the start of 4th quarter. The game was intense in the final minutes of the 4th quarter as Matt Harpring connects with a 3-pointer to make the game 115-116 Jazz's lead. Now it was Laker's ball. Derek Fisher runs around looking to pass, but noone seems to be open. Thats when Chris Mihm decides to set a pick for Fisher. Fisher takes the pick then shoots and buries the three ball, making the game 118-116 Laker's lead. Utah Jazz's coach decides to call a timeout with 11.2 seconds on the clock.

"The game is not over yet", says Laker's coach Phil Jackson. "I don't want any guys open for a three, and make sure you don't foul."

Harpring inbounds the ball to Gordon Giricek, but Ron Artest is there to intercept the ball and gets fouled to shoot two. He makes 1 of 2 free throws, making the game 119-116. Jason Hart walks up the court then passes to Harpring, who shoots a three to tie the game, but misses. Mihm gets the final rebound and the game is over.

Lakers Looking to Sign a Free Agent

Since the Lakers have a weak bench after departing Javaris Crittenton, Luke Walton, Brian Cook, Maurice Evans, and Ronny Turiaf, they are now looking to sign a couple free agents. The Lakers are really weak in the PF and SF position and need to fill those spots.

Source tells us the Lakers are looking to sign one or two free agents depending on their salary. These are the possible targets:

Danny Fortson - PF - 2yr - 2.99M
Image

P.J. Brown - PF - 2yr - 10.39M
Image

Mike Sweetney - PF - 1yr - 1.73M

Image

Ruben Patterson - SF - 1yr - 6.04M

Image

James Posey - SF - 2yr - 12.51M
Image

Gary Payton - PG - 2yr - 11.04M

Lakers sign veteran P.J. Brown

Image

The Lakers signed free agent Forward P.J. Brown to a mid level exception 2 year contract for 10.85M. He will be paid 5.22M the first year and 5.63 the second year. Brown averaged 6.1 points last season for the Chicago Bulls. Brown, who will turn 38 in October, played for Pat Riley from 1996-2000, helping Miami to the playoffs in all four seasons. The Laker's GM commented, "P.J. Brown is experienced and will bring veteran presence that the Lakers need. He will back up Udonis Haslem in the forward position, and take over in the center position if needed." The Lakers are excited to have Brown on their team and hope he will help take them to the playoffs.

Nice pickup in Brown. (Y) He looks like exactly what your front court needed. With him at the 5 spot, you could potentially field an amazing defensive squad with PJ, Haslem, Artest, Kobe, and Fisher all on the court at the same time.

Also, just out of curiosity, have you tried giving Fisher some time at shooting guard? I think it might be beneficial to give him like 10% minutes at SG and up Farmar's playing time at the point. Just a suggestion.

do u suggest PJ to start at center and bynum on bench?

i cant give fisher SG minutes because i already have 3 players playing SG position (kobe, vujacic, and koby carl.. 3 is max) i can lower fishers minutes from 69 to 67.. and boost farmar from 23 to 25

No, starting Bynum is good, i think. I just meant from time to time having PJ at the 5 gives you incredible defense.

As for Fisher at SG, do you really think Vujacic or Karl are that much better than Fisher? I'd probably go like this:

PG: Fisher 59% - Farmar 33% - Vujacic 8%
SG: Kobe 75% - Vujacic or Karl (whoever you prefer) 15% - Fisher 10%

Also, Willaimson can PF, and is probably more effective than Andre Brown, unless you're trying to develop Andre.

But really it depends on your playing/coaching style. I like to play a pretty short bench so I can maximize the minutes of my best players. I usually have 8 guys who play 20+ minutes, and then 1 or 2 guys who get only a few minutes per game.

Well, Andre Brown doesn't have to play. Williamson can cover backup SF and 3rd string PF duties, no problem. But again, it's all up to you and your preferred style. Like I said, I just personally like to maximize PT for my best players. I probably wouldn't ever play Andre Brown or Coby Karl unless guys get injured.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in 2nd place in the Pacific Division and seems like they are going to make it to the Playoffs.
